    I wish you the best during your travel! I took a trip to California in 2018 while my sister was studying in UCSD and it was the best trip of my life. We visited LA, San Francisco and San Diego and not having a car was definitely a struggle. My favorite experience by far was the WB studio tour. And if you like books I HIGHLY recommend visiting the Last Bookstore in downtown LA, it is a hidden gem and a must visit. And as for clothing, we went during Christmas and I only needed a light jacket because in SF it was a bit windy, and that was during f** Christmas! Yeah it’s always warm there.
    The worst part of the trip was the long flight. My flight went from Malaga to Heathrow and then to LAX. It’s not pleasant but it is doable and totally worth it!
    And thank you for the body doubling. I was trying to dress myself to go out and I struggle with it for 3 hours. I found your video and I was finished and out in 30 minutes!
    Oh god I think I wrote too much text. Good luck with the trip!!

      Well done for getting dressed, and than you for the recommendations! I’m about a week out now from being in California, but luckily I did visit the WB studio tour and the last bookstore! They were both SO COOL, I was a bit disappointed that the Stars Hollow set was closed the day I visited WB, but so many iconic things have been made there that the tour was incredible anyway!

    Can relate to the pet thing, can't bare to leave my dog, he looks all scared when I leave to the shops and he sits in the window waiting for me to come back 😭Not really been able to do anything or go anywhere due to him as I just end up worrying for the duration😩

      It’s definitely not been easy, but having friends popping in to play with them and give them a fuss, plus being able to use a nanny cam to check in on them anytime I’m too worried has made it mostly bearable so far!

    Good question about building places that aren't walkable! I'm American with dyspraxia and have never been able to drive because of my dyspraxia! I travel largely by walking and recumbent cycling and can tell you it's no easy undertaking in the States! I've spent the vast majority of my life wishing I could be accepted to the Netherlands as a refugee, 😆

      @DanaAndersen  2 місяці тому +3

      I’ve been here for like 2 weeks now and I’m so thrown by how hard it is to walk places! Even the parking lots here make it such a long walk to just visit two stores in the same area 🤯 I wanted to pop down to a 7/11 while everyone else was asleep and got like a third of the way there before realising I’d have to walk on the highway and turning around 😂

      @@DanaAndersen yep, one of the biggest inefficiencies I've dealt with in getting around,is that I often find myself taking some really circuitous route that doesn't involve using the freeway. I now live in a small farming town with many different stores within close proximity to my residence so can now easily meet most of my day to day transport needs through walking and cycling. But in most larger municipalities here, it's absolutely dreadful even potentially dangerous to try cycling and walking for any distance.

    0:08 It is discouraging when content that takes a ton of work gets less views than other videos. I honestly do appreciate you doing these. I like listening to your body doubling videos, or else Insym streaming something like Phas or 60 seconds, or lost genre storytelling when I'm doing monotonous tasks. It really does help. You're helping people.

    Hope you have (are having?) an awesome trip and that the air travel experience treats you well! Despite my car rant below, I think it's very much a part of the world that is worth visiting.
    Thank you for the video. I'm not doing chores this time, but they have helped me in the past.
    *Urbanism rant activated* oh goodness... the car dependency in the US and (to a slightly lesser extent) Canada is bananas. There are definitely places where it is unpleasant and/or dangerous to walk, like the freeway you mentioned. The low density development with giant parking minimums, lack of mixed zoning, under-investment in public transit, and road design that maximizes car speed and safety at the expense of everything else, all contribute to this.
    I'm lucky enough to live in a Canadian city with decent public transit (by US/Canadian standards), but there's a bunch of stuff that I can't do on my own because I don't have a car. But the idea of driving gives me the heebie-jeebies and owning a car is expensive and a pain so being car-free is best for me.

    • @DanaAndersen
      @DanaAndersen  2 місяці тому

      I am having a fabulous time! I’m really glad I get to see two states/cities while I’m here too, being in LA we saw a lot of public busses that had me tricked into thinking maybe the public transit here wasn’t so bad, then I’ve come to Phoenix and like nope, you NEED a car here. If the friends we’re staying with werent drivers, we’d only get to see the neighbour hood and a dollar tree 😂
      I kinda get it for here because it just wouldn’t be safe to walk too much with the heat, but there’s so many places in the country that could be safely walkable if they were just built for it 😩 Although having said that, even in the more ‘walkable’ parts of LA, just walking across a parking lot to get to a store would take a good twenty minutes 😅
      Everywhere has its issues though, and overall im just really glad to be here and get to see so many new things!

    I been to the US four times. It takes like 12 hours to fly from London to LA, hope you are/were prepared for that. Luckily you can get up and walk around the cabin(can only sit in the seat for so long, having long legs and cramped space doesn't help). You can even help yourself to free drinks and snacks on some airlines. Hope you have/had a good time. Lucky bugger.

      @@DanaAndersen The first time I flew to the US I didn't get any sleep for over 2 days. Think I was awake nearly 50 hours. But that included the time it took to travel from Newcastle down to London Heathrow which was 8 hours just for that and it was the overnight coach too and got no sleep at all. I just managed to fall asleep after 3 hours on the coach when the driver put the damn lights on at a service stop. Was awake after that until my last fly over stop from Denver to Ontario airport(which is roughly 30 miles west of LA) which was a 2 hour flight which I slept just about all the way through but I was knackered at that point. Was woken halfway through the flight with a cup of orange juice, drank it then fell back to sleep until we came into land at the airport. Got to my motel room and slept all night.

      They had to put him to sleep. Couldn't see what exactly was wrong, but his kidney was huge and he had a lot of liquid around his lungs. The vet thinks tumors or his heart. Whatever it was, he would probably have died during further tests. They showed me the X-ray (so I'm certain we made the right decision) and let me be with him. This sucks. Now my other cat is an only child. Don't really know what to do now.

    13:40 If you have specific personal hygiene products, groceries, or other products that you think you'll need, is it possible to order them online ahead of time and have them shipped or delivered to one of your destinations?
    One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes companies use differnet formulations in differnet countries, so it may be difficult to get the exact same product here in the USA that is available in the UK.

I have gotten super lucky and have been really enjoying trying new stuff while I’m here, i think it’s pretty much entirely special interest based though bcus all American food has been in some movie or show I’ve watched, so it’s all exciting 🤣 Like, ima have a microwave breakfast burrito in a minute and I know ot probably won’t be a technically good burrito, but it just feels so American that im gonna love it 🥰
