    Me and my sister made these in the 1960s and the 70s and flew them and lost some in my parents large field on the estate great fun.

    You got that dialled in really quickly. With catapult gliders I always seem to struggle with extreme control sensitivity in the high speed launch. Nice work!

    Holy cats, Batman! I have to re-watch this...is it making a complete 360 to the right before taking off downwind and slowly turning left? What an amazing glider!

      Thanks - I balanced the model using a few grams of clay at the tail. The balance point is shown on the plan available here: outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=3416

    What would it do with a really long ground attached catapult?

    Excellent - my that one flies well. I have a pair built many years ago when my children were tiny. I now use them to indoctrinate my Grandchildren! Thanks for sharing 🙂

    Where is the cg on this beauty?

    • @michaelkelly7338
      @michaelkelly7338  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Dohrm - I'm currently flying it with cg 2-3/8" aft of the leading edge, measured at the wing root.

    Beautifully built, flown, and filmed. Really fun to watch. How did you make trim adjustments on this model? Always curious to know with catapult gliders.

      Thanks Oliver! On this one I used surface deflection on the rudder (tweaked the bottom of the fin to the left) to induce transition after launch, shims in the fuselage slot to reduce reflex at the TE to tame the loop, bent the elevons by rolling them over a glue stick container to reduce reflex and set aileron trim, used tip weight on the right wing to tame a left spiral in glide, and used tail weight to get the cg in a workable place. There was a lot of iteration of tail and tip weight to get flights like the last two in the video. I think there's a bit more launch height to be had using 1/4" rubber (the second day's flights were all on a loop of 3/16" rubber) and trimming a bit more loop out of the top of the launch. It's been a fun and educational model to trim.

    Hi Michael
    How was he able to eliminate the looping effect when launching it with a catapult. Cheers

    • @michaelkelly7338
      @michaelkelly7338  Рік тому

      I reduced the reflex on the aft edge of the wing to tame the loop. It's still there, just not as pronounced.

    Hi, I’m building this and almost finished, do you have a pdf of where you got the tissue print? It would be easier rather than airbrush

      I just cropped the canopy, lettering and tail insignia from this profile: 1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/Visschedijk/Additions/EFW_N-20.2_Arbalete_side-view.htm. Hope yours flies well!

      @@thebalsaboy There's a blueprint showing the gear door locations in the first post of my build thread here: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?4032995-ABAK-Arbalete-Catapult-Glider.

      @@michaelkelly7338 ah, thank you. I already finished it but I might add it on. The files didn’t work for tissue printing so I airbrushed on decals, turned out great.
