The Police - Secret Journey (FYYC's Extended Remix & Special Video)

The song's about a mystical journey. Sting once said: ‘It's a quasi-mystical song. You have to do something, go somewhere, to get outside yourself. I read the book Meetings with Remarkable Men which says you have to make a journey. It doesn't have to be a real journey, it can be a mental journey.’ Although it wasn’t released as a single in Europe, the song did see a release in some countries, like the States and Canada in 1982, and also in Australia and New Zealand. Is this maybe why so many people from especially the U.S. asked me to make a remix of this song?
In the Melody Maker review of the album, it was called ‘the record's highest moment’. Other critics called it one of the ‘magic moments’ on Ghost in the Machine, and it was also described as ‘perhaps the best cut on the album’ by Chart Songwords. Andy noted the song once as one of his personal favourite Police songs, saying ‘I always thought that should have been a single.’ What’s your opinion about this song?
The part I really liked in the original version is Andy’s additional guitar part over the main riff, which unfortunately occurs only at the end for a short while. So I (amongst others) repeated this small part and integrated it at the beginning. Also I altered the guitar intro and middle section (by Andy on a Roland GR-300) a bit. Most footage comes from ‘Human’, one of my all-time favorite documentaries. This is a monumental 2015 film by the genius French environmentalist Yann Arthus-Bertrand. I tried to match the video with the atmosphere and content of the song. So enjoy. I'm curious what you think of it, please let me know!
In the end all this is for a greater cause. If our protagonist(s) will ever listen to this: come on guys, especially Sting, the years are starting to count seriously, so surprise the world, break the myth about The Police as a closed legend, visit your old friends, and do what lots worldwide don't expect, but are really waiting for: reshuffle a few of each other’s solo songs, give each other some space and ready it is: THAT DAMN SIXTH POLICE ALBUM!

Absolutely love this FYYC thank you, always one of my favourites. Think they missed a trick not releasing it as a UK single. Remember being made up to get hold of a ‘secret red’ vinyl copy of the US single.

Thanks FYYC for another great derangement ! I haven't seen the original film referred to but it looks to be moving & a real tug on the heart strings. The song, yet again very haunting, no complaints, it's one of my favourite aspects of The Police ! I learnt the bass line & then the guitar riff whilst still relatively new to both instruments years ago & remember thinking, esp. the guitar part, how do they do this ?! As to the drums, which of course I also love, well - I just would have sounded like somebody falling down the stairs ! Thanks again FYYC, it's always a pleasure.
