Code Monkey AMV
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- This AMV features the song Code Monkey by Jonathan Coulton, using footage from the anime Black Heaven.
It was a finalist at Anime Expo 2007 AMV Contest.
At Animazement 2007 it won Best in Show.
I've heard it did well at Dragoncon 2007
A lot of people ask where the song is available, you can buy it at Jonathan Coulton's website for 0.99 or from itunes for the same price. Its released under the Creative Commons license, which grants use for projects like this. Thanks Jonathan!
Others have asked about the anime, Legend of Black Heaven. This anime is about a man who was in a rock band in his younger days, but they broke up as the members grew up and got married. Years later, in a dead end job and dull marriage, he's approached by aliens who want him to play his music to save them...
15 years later it's 2023 now, as a code monkey myself i thank you for this amv, since the beginning it always cheers me up.
it'll be 16 soon, man, I wonder if the song was made to give me an interest in computers
👍
Here in 2024 and this still hits like a truck
This is the most accurate AMV I've ever viewed in my entire life.
Checking in from 2020, yup, this is still freaking amazing and I love it.
see you in 10 years check in
brings me back to my uni days 13 years ago
2021 here bro
I was like 10 when i saw this video. Now i am 26.
Nostalgia is crazy man lol
I second that in Dec. 2021
I only just realized that this is sung by the same guy who wrote "Still Alive" from Portal.
He writes lots cool songs besides these still alive and code money and he's been around for a while.
Hey don't forget re: your brains!
This was a triumph. I'm making a note here. Huge success.
@@lskdfoIS It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

I've been watching this AMV for 10 years, and I always tear up at the 2:37 part, when he looks up to the starry sky and his worried expression changes for a smile. This hope for better times is what I need to fight my depression. Thank you.
Likewise, 1:25 has the same effect for me but more because of how relatable it is. This AMV was so well made and full of so much heart.
someday somehow!!
17 years and I still love this song
Somehow this song gives me a feel of hope.
+Felix Schütt "Code monkey just waiting, for now. Code monkey say someday, somehow..." I know what you mean.... XD
Same bruh
I guess it's just feeling "I'm not the only one"
I use to watch this in highschool while doing homework late at night, was really into music and anime. Now I'm 28 and with my work I feel like code monkey. Time flies.
Yeah we all code monkey. We very simple. But that's not a bad thing
Has it already been 17 years? We sure have been through a lot, huh? I'm glad you're still here, Code Monkey. 20 year reunion, here we come!
His code's not functional, because he uses procedural languages :D.
Oh gods, this made me chuckle... I may yet not be lost.
hurr hurr derp
I was once told my variable names needed to spell out each abbreviation, and my logic was hard to follow, even in a short routine. While I did my best to adjust, it also seemed somewhat nitpicking. Sounds like not using a functional language or being elegant were also criticisms that somebody got that were kind of 'nittin'.
It's scary how well this song goes with this anime
I need to watch Black Heaven
@@seronymus Did you?
@@Clebardman I totally forgot thank you ;; how is it?
@@seronymusAs someone who watched it years ago because this AMV turned me to it,
It's good. Has an OP that gets stuck in your head. Short show but does a neat job exploring how growing up has us change our relationship to our passions.
The name of the anime is The Legend of Black Heaven, for those of you who are wondering. It even has an English dub.
Cody Wilcox Eww english dubs
Cody Wilcox i just read the last part as "it has a cancerous version"
+Modibo Kearney "Eww english who even uses that?! KAI WAI DESU DES!!!"
Thank You
+Master Morgoth dbz has a good dub but not black butler
13 years later and this has never been more relevant! Wish I could thank my 16 year old self for finding this gem way back then!
We followed the same timeline

still watching this 11 years later!
I'm glad you're still enjoying it!
It has been 11 years and this is still an iconic AMV to me
Thanks!
Code Monkey, a song for the ages. Seriously.
I've liked this AMV for like, 13 years now or something.
Jesus.
I'll never get tired of this song/AMV. It speaks to me, and it chokes me up whenever I get caught up in the lyrics. :')
After seeing this AMV 12 years ago, it relates to me now than ever as an adult. Glad this AMV is still here 🙂
I still come back and watch this in 2024. 😂 ♡♡♡♡
I'm first time watching it in 2024! Xd
I can’t believe I remembered this video and was able to find it in seconds.
I still remember finding this amv when I was in middle school and honestly its been on my mind ever since. Still haven't watched Black Heaven, and I don't think I ever will. Happy just preserving the context of this amv just as it is.
Glad you like it. But yeah, I took a lot of liberties with the plot of the video vs the anime. :)
@@Kagatoamv You made it so much better.
@@BruceNachsin I've had a few people complain my vid was a bit misleading when they watched the anime.
@@Kagatoamv oh yeah, it definitely is, but that’s not a bad thing. I tracked down and watched Black Heaven because of your video. While I did enjoy it, it wasn’t nearly as good as the “aspirational office comedy about a failed musician trying to find hope and fulfillment in his dead end low level coding job” that your video hinted at.
Btw, major kudos to you on a great editing job. As someone who has made a few short films, myself, I felt your storytelling was top notch & it’s clear there is a reason that 14 years & millions of views later, your video plays as awesome as it did on day 1.
I like your version more anyway.
this is the AMV that got me hooked on AMVs. about 1000 AMVs later...
this sold this anime for me. new addition to the list.
Same here. Already watched? What's your opinion about it? :P
Is it good?
@@ihatenumberinemail It's great but, holy shit, you wouldn't believe it.
(SPOLIERS)
THERE ARE F*CKING ALIENS IN THIS ANIME.
The AMV doens't even have a hint on that lol.
Suoirafen I'MA WATCH IT SOON
Suoirafen also nice 5yr late reply xD
My brother used to have this video on his laptop and I used to absolutely love it. I'm happy I was able to find it again, after so many years
NOSTALGIA!!! I SHARED THIS ON FACEBOOK WAAAY BACK IN 2011, DAMN MISSED THIS
This is the best amv ever!
I second this. I've seen a lot of AMV's and not very many are very good in my opinion. But this is great and has always been great ever since I first saw it 9 years ago.
hi
When UA-cam used to be great...
#ThisIsMyUA-cam #MakeUA-camGreatAgain
I know. This brings back memories.
@@ryanjackson0x This was back before the dark days of patreon and all the good content disappearing behind paywalls.
Yeah like entire episodes for free and completely illegal and shit yes the good old days I literally watched 120 episodes of bleach on UA-cam but when the law hits the law hits hard.
@SinR Sigmoid This hit me hard...
OK boomer.
A relic from the days of AMV's dominating UA-cam.
jeez i've love this AMV for over a decade and it might be one of the oldest videos on youtube that survived the great purge.
Dangerous Rival is that league
I come back to this video every anniversary since it’s 10 year anniversary. I was like 9 when I found this back on old UA-cam lol
For real. I was 15 I'm 28 now
That was perfect. Complete perfection. I've never heard of this show, but now I'm suddenly compelled to watch it. Thank you for this wonderful addition to UA-cam.
love going back to iconic amvs from early youtube and seeing all the comments from people revisiting their favorite amvs and reminiscing
Just introduced my daughter to this song, and the video, and she absolutely loves it! Which is great as I'm just a Code Monkey too!
Checking in from 2023, yup, this is still freaking amazing and I love it.
10 years ago I found this video, I still watch with pleasure.
2024 and its starting to make me feel old, but still a bop.
Holy shit I remember watching this in 8th grade. I'm close to 30 now...
Was a code monkey back in the day.Even had a manager named Rob. Still like Fritos,Code Red Mountain Dew,but sadly Tab was discontinued.I did however find my person that completes me and our naps are epic.
I spent two nights writing code for my construction mechanics homework while this mental amv was spinning in the background. Thanks for helping me not to go crazy.
Its 2023... and JC still rocks. Great AMV tribute.
Listened to this about 15 times in a row. Still not tired. Even after a few years, still an awesome song.
I'm debugging live issues, was losing stamina...play this....now I'm rocking again.
I heard this song today and I immediately remembered this existed.
It’s been a tradition for every Fourth of July bbq I jam to this song/video for 13 years now thanks man for giving birth to this amv
Hah! That's a great tradition, I'm glad you enjoy the video.
Nic Neidenbach hey helped me fine an awesome song that me and my mom now drink to lol
@@Kagatoamv The man himself. I hope you're doing great after all these years.
"anime"
"he's approached by aliens who want him to play his music to save them"
GEE AIN'T THAT SURPRISING
What anime
@@thecreep9650 hello, person from a decade in the future! The anime is called Black Heaven; it's kind of weird but I only watched a few episodes of it and didn't continue, didn't really hook me. This AMV is still great, though.
This plays on loop for me when I'm writing code for my C++ classes.
It inspires me...
Randomly thought about this video, and didn’t realize it came out 12 years ago wow
17 yrs.. damn I remember when this came out.. time goes quick
I try not to think about it too much, makes me feel old. ;)
I remember watching this my senior year of high school back in 08/09 man those were the days
Kind of crazy how long its been since I created this AMV.
Up there with Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" vid with Anime visuals. Japanese animation and US music seem to make a good match. Amazing how universal such characters are in this very Japanese Anime.. Guess I'll have to binge-watch "Black Heaven,," since "Space Pirate Cobra" was so awesome.
OK, I watched Black Heaven. Awesome series. I had no idea the effect Michael Shenker had on Japan. Note here in the song, he's thinking in an insubordinate way, tho he doesn't do it. In the Anime, he and the girl bow down to the floor to get some time off; and the manager just read a book claiming it's a good idea to let workers have time off for affairs (which they weren't doing). Quite a cultural difference. They are also on a greater mission than romance and coding. Tho it had some SF plot holes, I also thoroughly enjoyed it. Recommended. Also, I prefer dubbed versions, since I'd rather not have to look at subtitles half the time, when I could be looking at the action/artwork.
I spun a bit of a different story with this vid than the anime's. I've had a few people tell me they were disappointed the story wasn't more like the song. :)
@@Kagatoamv I thought it was gr8. The anime wasn't very realistic, but the guy in the song wasn't overtly a guitarist. I was a programmer with an interest in guitar and the secretary; so it especially struck a chord with me. It seemed to me you made the vid more like the song than the anime; since he wasn't actually interested in the girl romantically in the anime. I looked at some of your other AMV's, and was disappointed there weren't more Rock songs. (Of course, the music industry has turned a cold shoulder to almost all Rock; but it's still popular. E.g. the Grammy's don't televise their Rock category anymore. They did have AC/DC play "Highway to Hell" and Slayer, so they like Satanic stuff plenty.)
Words alone can't Express how much I love this video! Dedicated to all those out there working way too hard for the ones they love. Always remember to hold on to your dreams. The only person who can make them come true is YOU!
this is one of the AMVs that got me into anime
Hello from 2022, as new as it gets, masterpiece, time can't dissolve it
After a long path of 9 years of coding, I can finally feel that song in full. And this is kinda sad, you know.
But anyway my next work will be somewhat filled with some neaning for people, just like my previous jobs...
I'm 28 btw. And I hope to listen that song in my elderly age 😂
2024, still awesome!
It's been almost ten years...Jesus...
Mei IsBei i know right I remember watching this when it came out...time sure flys by
Same. It's such a strange feeling. lol
Still just as good.
This video is half my age
Alexander Garcia this video is 4 years older than half my age lol, also I was the crimson King lol
IDK how many years its been since I first saw this video but today I just randomly felt like watching it. IMO its one of the best AMVs out there even now. Also I only knew about the anime because of this AMV and it was a pretty good anime to watch.
I've taught myself just enough HTML to tweak my own website so when I get something right, I listen to this as a victory lap.
yearly watch. I always come back to this and cry
I had to see this video 11 years and suddenly remembered it out of the blue, you've done a good and memorable job man (Y)
Chees!
2018 still watching this from time to time whoop
Odinson 44 I switched degrees because of this song
And STILL watching from time to time man a lot has changed in the 4 years I posted that comment.
It's amazing how everything in the anime conveniently fits in with the lyrics.
This is one of the greatest anime music videos EVER! EEEVVVVVEERRRRRRR!
This is too wholesome for UA-cam and im all about it
I love this song. Its really nostalgic for me, its one of my dad's favorite songs and he used to play it for us a lot. its been my favorite song for ages and he showed us this video for it too. I love this song, thank you so much for giving me this nostalgia.
This amv fit so well, I thought the anime was called, "Code Monkey" before I read the info. lol ^_^
I was 11 when this amv came out... time flies man
holy shit this is some nostalgia. haven't seen this is in over 12 years
Return to tradition
"Code monkey not say it out loud. Code monkey not crazy, just proud."
When I first heard this lyric at 15, I thought it was just silly. Now, at 31 and an IT worker, this lyric hits different.
Complexity of finding a prime integer using NFS: O(e^[(32/9*log n)^(1/3)*(log log n)^(2/3)]).
It shouldn't be any harder problem to find somebody whose attention is divided only by one and her/himself.
Damn kids and their fancy equations, I'll stick with AKS, complexity is O(log(n)^6).
Anyone else proud that they air guitar to this?
from the year 2021 this is still a good amv. I don't know what made me look for it but glad I did. thank you.
I'm glad you still enjoy it.
Brings up so many memories......sigh.......its so nogalistic( or however you spell it) im sure oneday when im in college this song will make my day better....

2018 you poor pleb.
Today I woke up and for some reason the song was in my head. After so many years without listening to it or watching this AMV it came back to my head
This is definitely the way AMVs should be.
None of those epileptic flashing lights and hyper short clip reel videos those Europeans freak us out with.
Mind blowing that it took me 16 years to discover this AMV. Even crazier considering in 2007 ALL I WATCHED WAS AMV’s! But thank you for creating this. Not only is it the most accurate AMV ive ever seem. But it details the ENTIRE ANIME in 3 minutes! Wherever you are i hope you took this and got into story boarding/directing. Cuz this right here takes talent
This AMV is timeless. Which is amazing, because AMVs didn't end up being timeless at all. lOl
Still watching this video 13 years later and it's more relevent than ever.
I saw this at Animazement 2009 or 2010, and to this day, this is the only AMV I think about often.
Absolute classic.
Still watching this in 2022, love it
