Thank you for all of your kind comments on these videos. It's very clear to me that more parts are desired for this series. I apologise for the lack of updates to this series, I don't have the cash to buy an oscilloscope at the moment. I'd like to carry on with this in the future when I can.

Great to see/hear an introduction to oscilloscopes that I can follow with relative ease (being a complete novice). Has this excellent series been abandoned? If so that is a big shame. Please would you consider picking this up again, I know I am not the only one who would be very happy to see a continuation.

My 30-year-old Tektronix gave up the good fight a while back and I bought the Rigol scope in this video. I don't use one often, but when a scope is needed, nothing else will do - so I got mine out today for the first time in a year, to use it for (almost) the first time. The difference between the Tektronix and the Rigol is like the difference between DOS and Windows, so I could hardly make it go at all. It took a while to find the mains on/off switch, so this video was very useful. Thank you. I watched #1 (general understanding of scopes - which didn't help much) and #2. I'll search your channel ion the next day or two for #3, #4, #5 etc.
    Excellent explanations, by the way!

While I may be late in this series. I thought you did a pretty good job on them. too bad you didnt continue with them. like 3, 4,5 etc... Lots of useless Oscillo vids on you tube where it come out of the gate good then simply dies. most of them dedicated to certain models. perhaps rename your vides first and last. the #1 and #2 implies their will be more. or better yet. do a number 3!

Hi, don't know if anyone already said this but if you press the option buttons on the right of the screen (blue ones) multiple times, it scrolls through the options so you don't have to always use the intesity knob. I find it quite handy when changing settings that have few options like slope and trigger channel for instance. For the ones with a lot of options the knob is easier.

    THANK You !
Tried to watch a lot of scope tutorials, not easy to find a god one to get started.
    This one was straight on.
One thing that would be very nice bunch of tutorials is to for example use arduino, create different things with that one, and then make an scope tutorial with code, connections and how to measure, and also doing math, even on the easiest things.
Most of the tutorials is reviews, or, like one guy, "Learn Oscilloscopes Basics with an Arduino uno and a scope, then not showing where he puts his probes, quite useless lession.
    Could have been so good.
    Thank you again

OBTW ZT I bought mine 2 weeks ago and I struggled to get up to speed till your site vids - me coming from a tradition cro scope bg. The front panel is a new strange i/f at first but tis a dream. The latest offer from Teleonics (uk agent) included all the s/w apps. What isnt explained is how you get to load Ultra Sigma and Ultra scope ( shows your dso on pc via usb it works for me), they kind imply you have to buy their 1104 or mso versions etc - dirty marketing trick - also theres a whole world of connectivity available via IVI - they just dont want to tell you about it. Why do they cripple themselves BTSOOM

A Rigol and a Vanishing Point, I fully approve. I have the same black VP in a stub Though I use my Lamy 2k much more just wish it came in a stub, and my Rigol is a 1054Z. This seems to be the last video in this series you did, I hope you return to it. I got my scope to measure and calibrate Eurorack synth modules I am building but want to learn a lot more.

    • @bmmcwhirt
      @bmmcwhirt 4 роки тому

@@ZippletTech That is unfortunate. Rigol, if you are listening please send this kind individual a free scope so he can produce more videos, not just a loaner.
I don't know how familiar you are with the scopes as to if you can answer this from memory. I'm hoping I can capture Xms then wait a while and capture Xms again and compare them to see how much drift there is. Analog synthesizer circuits tend to have some drift as they warm up. Not as much with newer more stable analog components but there is still some and being able to measure that on older and newer equipment would be useful to me. First to see how much drift there is from power to N minutes to know how long is a good warmup time and how much if any there is after the hardware has warmed up. I don't know if that is possible but it's what I would like to do on scope without using the pc usb interface to do it.

There's a lot of good content here. I would like to offer some constructive suggestions. Being from the US I have to listen more closely than someone from GB. That's my issue, not yours. However, your voice tends to trail off at the ends of your sentences and your enunciation isn't clear. The suggestion is to watch your videos with that in mind and practice speaking so that your sentences end with the same strength as the beginning. I had to replay sections more than once to catch what you were saying. Again, good explanations and content.

brill zt just what i needed to know to look at bounce, i will pass you around. Hey dude go crowd funding. your vids are sooooooo good that hobbyists will surely cough up a few bucks if you make foolow up vids on the excellent DS1054Z (which is hack to 100mhz v easy btw so is the same as the one you have. need to know what the Ultra Sigma is all about, also how to get Ultra scope on you r pc, also how to use, explain more on timbase stuff, delay etc How to use it for audio . Some of the neat math functions like FFT, looking at PWM sigs for controlling motors, using encoders, can it be slowed and configured as a data logger trace. So many fun things but its a big leap from a CRO scope for a newbie.
OBTW Rigol lent you the scope 6 years ago, go back to them and say their vids are crap and trivial info mercials They are seriously shooting themselve in the foot by not being customer friendly. Get me an important name and i will mail him and tell him their user info is rubbish (typical chinese, they hate giving out information)

This is a very helpful video, but it could be so much better. You don’t really explain what triggering is. It is really just a stroboscope, like on a turntable, which by synchronising the viewing window with the speed of the waveform makes it appear stationary. That’s what the timebase is.
Second, a script and some editing can be godsends. That would enable you to get rid of the ‘you knows’ - I don’t, that’s why I’m watching - ums, OKs and basicallys. It’s human nature to have three goes at saying something. Editing allows you to choose just one. Say it once and quite slowly.
