This scope is hackable to 350MHz, and you can build a DIY logic analyzer probe for digital stuff for way less than the cost of the PLA2216. I bought the MSO5074 a little while back.

@@Ritefita If you want to observe fast-rising digital signal, you need at least 5x (10x preferable) bandwidth of your base frequency. For a 350Mhz scope, you can accurately observe 35Mhz pulses.

Came across this video and then checked your other videos. Subscribed right away. I like your projects and your thought processes. You seem like a cool guy and really glad you got that scope. I just bought a 12x24 garage which will be converted to a lab for me. Will take a lot of time. I am guessing it will be late fall before I even start in it. I am one of 5 people who won a Keysight scope from Plasma Channel and I am waiting on it to arrive. Never used one before and I am not up on electronics hardly at all but have many ideas for things and a scope will be super helpful. One thing though, I am worried about screwing up the scope by a ground short, etc. I want to use an isolation power supply to run it I think. I hope you do not overlook a connection one day and fry your scope. Looking forward to your future videos and many I need to watch to catch up. Good luck with your scope and projects!

And more frequent updates make the algorhythm happy, i know some videoessay channels i follow struggle to get all that algorhythm nonsense, because they upload like monthly or so 45min+ videos. So not having some "coilgun all in one video", but the longer "part x" actually makes sense in that aspect too (not just in enjoyment on our part, and "doing it justice" ) !

Hey Levi, I've been thinking quite a bit recently about making a coil gun that is a lot like what you had proposed (many identical segments), but rather than relying on tuned LRC tank circuits for induction, I want to build modules that have integrated, high-speed, full-bridge inverters. This would make it possible for all stages to share eachother's capacitors, for the oscillation speed to be digitally controlled, and for the di/dt of the coils to be as high as possible because the coils can reverse polarity before the capacitors discharge. This also prevents the requirement for capacitors to withstand reverse voltage.
Let me know if you are interested in hearing more.

I've been using this scope for two years now... It is a good scope, my one complaint is Rigol is not the best at polishing firmware. The first thing I did was unlock all the features which took a total of 5 minutes. But I had made sure I did my research beforehand.

  • @poptartmcjelly7054
    @poptartmcjelly7054 3 роки тому +1

I don't think you'll be doing anything to challenge the 100MHz bandwidth of the scope anytime soon.
I've had a 25MHz VDS1022 scope for almost four years and i've been very happy with it.
It's only a 100MSa/s scope and the 5kSa memory depth is probably the most limiting factor of the scope but i've been successful in checking serial transmissions with pulses only a couple hundred nanoseconds in width, which i think is pretty cool.
Your scope also has a logic analyzer, which is super sweet, i'm sure you'll find good use for it in the future.
    Anyways good luck.

That's a great scope, congrats! By the way, I don't know if you're aware of that, but Arduino can generate much faster square waves than the one you've shown, 2-3 MHz at least. If you're after that, you need to bypass the Arduino commands like digitalWrite and go straight to port manipulation (as you do on a regular microcontroller), i.e. setting PORTB values

    Have a nice day
I apologize for the message, I wanted to ask you about an oscilloscope, I just plan to buy a similar one
I read in the manual about the function of recording the waveform from the input channels and the ability to transmit using the built-in generator.
But I could not find information, is it possible to record 2 signals from different channels at the same time and transmit them simultaneously using different outputs of the generator
Recorded on equipment and reproduced, I want to use it to test IGBT drivers from UPS on the desktop. There is no desire to work near the equipment, as the voltage is about 800 volts.
2 separate channels come to the IGBT control board, if there is no one signal or not at the right time, then the board cannot be checked.
    Sincerely

Maybe I am "black-minded", but did you ever ask yourself for the motivation of an anonymus person, just sponsoring quite some money for an idea, that is by no question highly interesting?
Interesting in two ways: 1. technically: nice idea, should be feasible, lets do it... 2. application-wise: to be very frank and clear: this coil-gun is a weapon. How would you feel, if you get informed by media, that your technique has been misused by anyone? And how would you feel about having received money from that person/organisation?
Don't get me wrong, I looked at your YT-channel driven by technical interest; I like your holistic approach on solving issues, even if you are at the beginning of an (obviously) steep learning curve, and even if I disagree with some of your technical conclusions.
Just be careful revealing too much technical details...
