Our VRF Grab Bags (GB) videos are compiled from content from our cameras as Mods and fans spot something neat while watching our cameras. In the GB you will, of course, find a variety of TRAIN content, special trains, maintenance, steam, diesels, interesting rail cars, cool paint schemes and more. You will also find fun people, city events, boats, planes, cars (sometimes going wild) and nature. Thank you for taking the time to sit back and enjoy these highlight reels that we call "Grab Bags"! - Розваги
We still have Piggly Wiggly’s in Wisconsin. I once dated a very pretty assistant manager at our store. She absolutely made that Piggly Wiggly.
We still have Piggly Wiggly's in Alabama !!!!!
Sad seeing Fort Madison being dismantled. History hauled-off to a landfill. What's next? Timeshare condos at Yellowstone?
Once history classes were removed from our educational systems, the drive for preserving our nation's history became dormant. This generation is about erasing, and revising history to feed their feeble hearts. Knowing history is the power of knowledge, of which governments and elites fear the most. History tends to repeat themselves, one can not know when it will happen unless they know their history whether it is state, nation or world history. This generation is doomed, they will not see or know the signs when dark days are coming upon them.
Really enjoyed seeing a Leigh Valley heritage unit.
Piggly Wiggly first outlet opened in 1916 in Memphis, Tennessee, and is notable as the first true self-service grocery store
0:12 That trucking company reminds me of the Golden Pig Intermodal service the Southern Pacific had back then. Just a thought.
They're actually a grocery store chain..
17:06 Wow that’s very interesting these single level Utah front Runner commuter cars are a long way from home I wonder where they’re being taken to?
When I saw them I thought, "Oh, somebody else besides Utah must have used the name." Then I looked again--and they *are* from Utah! In Pennsylvania!! What gives?!
The Grab Bags are absolutely righteous brother. Keep it up.
First time I saw Close Encounters of the Third Kid and saw a *Piggly Wiggly truck I thought it was made up and then you guys have one on camera!!!
It’s a Southern Chain of grocery stores.
We use to have one in the town over from us, in Texas. That was over forty years ago. Not too many of them are left.
I think there are about 600. It started in Memphis, but I think due to companies acquiring other companies and such the headquarters are in New Hampshire.
@@ruthwallace6741 not really. You can find em everywhere in wisconsin. You wont find one in illinois tho
@@ruthwallace6741 If the Kroger-Albertson's merger were approved, they would grow again.
Shoppin at the PIG, fer sure!
It's saying alot but that Wabash Heritage unit has to be the best one overall so far! Man that's sharp!
I grew up going to piggly wiggly, they used to give the best cookies while your parents were shopping.
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains, especially the Heritage Units, lighting strikes in Rochelle, Illinois, and so much more, @Virtual Railfan, I like them all, thank you very much.
Wow Piggly Wiggly still exists! That last one I saw was when I went to CDL school in Dunn NC back in 2015.
There's one alive and well in the metropolis that is the heart of the south, Wagener, South Carolina.
Piggly Wiggly still has an active distribution center in Bessemer AL just west of Birmingham right off of I-20/59
Piggly Wiggly opened a store here. Great fanfare and publicity. Many people went. Once...
Heck some might remember Mick or Mack stores, that for years was the only place to get really good lard, prices and selection were comparable to the bigs but the municipalities in a lot of places taxed them out...
Sorry for a mini rant, Wonderful Grab bag!
I grew-up shopping at a Red & White. Remember those?
nice collection of moments! And yeah, Piggly Wiggly, gotta love that store branding. I first encountered it in Florida visiting parents. But they were more fond of the more dignified "Food Lion."
We have PWs all over the South. There was a gas/convenience store called Hoggly Woggly, with an automated carwash. The car wash had big signs stating "Hogwash". Someone decided they were offended by the sign (an oversized person?) so the signs were removed, and the store folded soon thereafter.
Hope they get the belen cam fixed i like that cam and what a crazy driver at ft madison and that train split wow
14:00. That is one very important alternator!!!!
WAMX can sure paint locos in striking colours.
I believe they obtained the engine that way and just added WAMX 4190 in 2016, it always seems to be assigned to that line. It's former WSOR 4077
Hello Grab Bag🚂Friends👋🏻
That lightning was amazing, but I'm so sorry that tornados came with it. And after watching trains allow people to get off and grab their forgotten stuff, board late and so on, it seems to me that the railroads still embody a lot of that Georgia fallen flag slogan of "Courtesy and service." You won't get that from a jet plane!
Belen had a Piggly Wiggly and a Safeway, but with the creation of Amtrak, Belen lost the passenger rail and both stores closed down. Several retail outlets (Sprouse Reitz, T.G. & Y, Sears catalog store) made a go of it for a couple of years, but they also shut down. The merger of BNSF and twenty Hollywood movies made there breathed new life into the town.
We used to have a Piggly Wiggly in Marshall. Over the years, it later became Brookshires then True Value and Harbor Freight
Love the jingle...Piggly Wiggly, shop the Pig!!
Piggly Wiggly is only on East Coast, here in the West we have Safeway
There's a lot of Safeways in the east too.
We have Piggly Wiggly's in Wisconsin! 😊
"Oh sir, wasn't it smashing!" quote from some children's book that i read backalong The sequence at Galesburg with the shunt and the freight dividing in half and then the speeded up section 10X was the one I really liked I really liked it all! 😁
3:03 Look at those really old and rare CP boxes! Also, at 17:46 I caught that specific CEFX AC4400, 1043, like 3 times within a week because he wouldn't stop following me when I was railfanning lol
22:46 I like how the angle of the Galesburg, IL camera allows us to see slack-action delay as the crew pushes the separated train back together.
Yes, almost looks fake. and that is at 5x speed, imagine it in real time!
I believe those are remote control locomotives so maybe there's a slight delay in fine operation
19:09 Cool to see sequential numbered locos. I recently saw three at the BNSF Denver loco shop. 3308,3309, 3310, & 3311. All looking shiny and new. Think they were just passing through and were on a service and fueling layover for a few days. 😊
*Nice Catches*
Piggly wiggly started in memphis and pioneered DIY shopping vs having a clerk get it
there were boatloads of em in the south east but foodlion and publix are the main regional rivals
i
Winn Dixie was there for quite a while, too. A Winn Dixie in Sanford, NC is now a Piggly Wiggly.
Wow what a great Grab Bags as always
The reason for the lightning was that us IL residents had 6 small tornadoes last night
Trivia: Piggly Wiggly was the first grocery store chain that introduced self service for getting items
I'm old enough to remember their first slogan: "Piggly Wiggly, help yourself!" It turned into sort of a buzz-phrase like "Where's the beef?" (and lots of others) years later. 😊
Nice time lapse at Galesburg
Very awesome video thanks
Okay, I'm Australian, so I don't know what the story is, but why are they pulling down the wall of the fort?
Well first the fort is a replica, the original one burnt down ages ago, and because of poor maintenance this replica has become structurally unsound.
1:29 86ft boxcars including a Chessie System one
2:41 CSX 3415 has a Georgia Railroad sticker on its nose
3:14 CSX SD40-3 trailing on a BNSF train
3:46 MOW equipment passing Paradise (again at 21:20)
4:25 CSX 1869 leading with a Do not Hump automated inspection boxcar
4:42 CSX 1836 leading 15 minutes later
5:10 although this train just barely cleared the crossing before it stopped, this driver didn't take into account other trains that might be coming
5:27 Amtrak 187 with Big Game Train logos on the Empire Builder
6:50 P42 and SC44 doubleheading the Carl Sandburg with an Amfleet cafe and three Venture cars
8:42 removing the wall at the old Fort Madison. This is a 1970s replica depicting its 1803 appearance as the original would've been located where the tracks are at 369 ave H (the camera is at 709 ave H)
10:20 private cars on the rear of the California Zephyr
12:18 D&H hopper
13:08 New Haven P32AC-DM 230. It is owned by CTDOT as are the passenger cars with the red stripe
13:47 three locos for a heavy haul of a large machine
14:21 CRRC carbodies tarped up. I don't see a logo on either tarp
15:58 NS 1070 as mid-train DPU
16:45 Utah Frontrunner Comet I coaches! These were stored at the Abilene & Smoky Valley for a while after being retired in 2022. HRMX is Heritage Rail Management.
19:05 sequential locomotive together!
22:30 train snaps in half!
23:52 NS 8101 as DPU
At 4.36, is that a track geometry inspection boxcar?
0:12, Piggly Wiggly, Shop the Pig!
Odd to see the Front Runner in PA. It's actually a commuter train for the Wasatch Front in Utah.
Multiple examples that Amtrak really cares.
Great video 👍 love the grab bags! Darwin's 👺
Chessie System ❤
What was up with the fort wall removal?
Fort Madison has been there since the 1830s my guess would be due to rot.
The site is being opened up so pedestrians can visit the fort without having to pay. The buildings won't be open, however. The current replica fort was built in 1988, but is in need of much repair. It may get replaced altogether.
I think it’s because of the possibility of flooding.
They’ve had flooding in the past, it’s why the station there was raised about three years ago.@@susanwahl6322
That hurt to watch...that beautiful old piece of history. I wondered if the wall had become unsafe. If it is, there's good reason to remove it, but it still hurt to watch.
Yeah it was interesting last night in Illinois with those storms.
I love Grab bag time!
I only watch the grab bags.
Whats happening to the Fort in Fort Madison?
It's my understanding that the Fort has become structurally compromised because of poor maintenance, but also considered that it's a replica, the original fort burnt down a long long time ago.
hello Virtual Railfan & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks Virtual Railfan Friends Randy
I guess the late Amish passenger in La Plata couldn't get their horse started.
Amish? In Missouri?
@@2themoon863 You’ll find Amish and Mennonite communities almost anywhere there’s good farmland.
🌲🌱🇮🇳🌱🌲
Awesome Video!
Good stuff at 21:33
The CSX at FTM, how far did that end up going? Not very often have I seen a CSX engine there.
You showed a tug (really a push) and barge on the river at Fort Madison, but you didn't show the bridge open.
How do yall determine where to put cameras? I know 2 spot in Knoxville Tennessee that’d provide a lot of traffic and one spot that’d get some gorgeous shots!
Go to VR website and give the specifics.
What's with the fence tear down at Fort Madison? Replacing the rotten materials?
I saw this part live 8:36
15:26 AND THEN ALONG CAME ZEUS
Lots of great NS Heritage Units, good video VRF!🛤🚂
@22:55 Is anyone else bothered by the fact that it looked like the shove just pushed the separated train together without hooking up train air? Unless I missed something, it seemed like a continuous shove. How were the cars brakes not still set from the emergency application? What am I missing?
hey I was just wondering what is this box car called with the red light underneath?
NS 9862 Delivering 5 UTA/Frontrunner Comet Cars To Utah At Horseshoe Curve
(TIMESTAMP AT 17:15)
That was a fun li'l surprise to see the FrontRunner livery that I see on a weekly basis suddenly pop up on VRF! I've probably ridden on one of those very Comet cars before; glad they're finding a new life back east.
Were they being delivered *to* Utah, or *from* Utah to somewhere else?
@@donnaj9964 From Utah to somewhere else. UTA (Utah Transit Authority) removed them from service back in 2022 due to maintenance costs (they were nearly 50 years old at the time); they auctioned off some number of them later once they decided they didn't need to keep them around in reserve.
@@joshridderhoff2050 Thank you so much--it was amazing to see them there!
lol 23:40
I thought the same thing lol 😂
What a shame they removing the wall at fort madison alot history getting destroyed
Great grab bag. Lunatic Darwin had no idea whether a train was approaching on either of the other two tracks! It’s a kinda sad day for me, as many of my favourite cams go on subscription after tomorrow so I’ll be unsubscribing and wishing VRF a fond farewell. Thanks for all the memories, it’s been a blast!
Now, we are waiting for the hogly wogly truck...
Why are they taking the wooden wall around the fort down?
I have never believed that a sleeping kitty was a good logo for a freight railroad...
If the ride is so smooth that it won’t disturb a sleeping kitten, they’ll handle your freight pretty gently too.
It certainly was a concern back in the day. There’s plenty of old railroad training films here about cargo handling and the costs to the railroad of damaged goods.
Chessie, the sleeping kitty, was a primary promotion for the C&O passenger service, especially the overnight Pullman services, where the ride that would not disturb the sleeping kitty would appeal to their human customers. The pre-war campaign became so popular, with parent felines Chessie and Peake, that an entire promotional campaign for the whole railroad was generated that took on a life of its own-and legends were born!
Um, aren't commercial vehicles supposed to stop at rr crossings ?????
School buses and trucks hauling hazardous materials (placarded)
1:24 a GG1???
Yep, the Virginia Museum of Transportation has one.
What is Piggly Wiggly?
do future videos need some daredevil stunts
P42's rule Chargers don't
Surprised to see a lot of Amish on the rails, but easier than an airplane TSA line……
Amish can ride on trains, buses. Ride in cars but cannot drive or own them. Airplanes absolutely not.
I dig the pig.
Or, as we used to call it, the Woggly Hog
Was there a Darwin candidate? I missed it. Anyone have a time stamp?
Ft Madison ~5:05. Crosses behind stopped train with no view of other tracks. Gate was still down.
@@delurkor thank you!
But why tear down the old fort!? 🤔
I was asking the same thing?
Wood rot
@@robchit1 rip ig 😪
Thank God for freight, seeing all of those passenger cars with three or four people on board is sickening.
Amtrak reported total ridership of over 28 million in 2023, a 24% increase from the year prior
PIGGLY WIGGLY makes the worst ketchup in the world.
