How Fast Do Trains Really Go? Trains In Front & Behind House & Radar Check! CSX & Norfolk Southern

  • Radar Speed Check On 3 Trains, Close Look At Railroad Radio, Rail & Coupler Pin. CSX & Norfolk Southern Trains In Front & Behind House In Kentucky That Is Surrounded By Railroads. Big CSX Auto Racks Train With DPU Locomotive In The Middle Working Hard. This Train Will Do Street Running In LaGrange. Fast Trains On Norfolk Southern Rat Hole & Not So Fast CSX Train On CSX Short Line. These trains are in Walton, Kentucky at the Abner Gaines House.
    The radar unit is back by popular demand! I used it on 3 trains in this video. This is one of my favorite places to film since there are 2 railroads that cross here and run parallel for a short distance. This is the Abner Gaines House in Walton, Kentucky. The city of Walton owns the home and the property is open to the public. Railfans come here a lot. I was fortunate enough to be able to see the inside of the home a couple months ago. See that video. The inside is incredible and looks like you entered a time capsule.
    We also see a closeup of my radio. People ask all the time: "What kind of radio do you use?" I just buy the cheapo Baofeng radios. They only cost about 25 to 30 bucks each and come with a drop in charger. These radios work great for receiving railroad frequencies but they are very complicated to program. Videos on UA-cam show how to program them. I never Railfan without a radio. They pay off all the time. I always take at least two of them with me and I keep a charger in the truck also. Learn the laws in your area before you use one in your vehicle. A good source of radio frequencies is radioreference.com and you can ask local railfans for the best frequencies in their area. I only listen to a couple of frequencies at a time. Listening to too many will cause you to miss signals being called out and will cause confusion. I only listen to the road channels and the end of train devices.
    This video also shows a closeup of the rail and we take a look at a coupler pin. I find these pins every once in a while but I don't really know that much about them. Leave a comment below if you are an expert on coupler pins.

    A very long CSX auto rack train. I've got some advice for tagger Sleepy: don't stay up all night vandalizing rail cars and you can get to bed on time!! That way you won't be sleepy! 😊😊❤❤

      Especially those ones on autoracks. Since these rail cars are so large, people (despite being criminals) can do amazing things with some spray paint and some fence-jumping skills.

    YIPPIE! YAHOO! YABBA-DABBA-DOOOO! Jaw Tooth; glad you took the radar with you!!
    I always enjoy your videos, but this one put an unexpected smile on my face when that radar unit appeared. I don't know why, but I enjoy seeing the speed of the trains. I began to try and guess the speed of the trains when you were using the radar more often and I never stopped the 'game' with myself.
    One of many reasons why I enjoy your channel so much - you do listen to your viewers and I for one, truly thank you!
    BTW: That moment you were shooting directly into the sun - - video was still great.
    May you have good health, safety, and steadily increasing followers.

      That first train was going about 62mph.

    • @tbh791
      @tbh791 2 місяці тому

      @@rthomashouse6140Top speed on the entire NS system is 60mph, and that's only for intermodal & stack trains. Everything else is 50mph maximum, and NS is super strict about speed limits. So there's no way that first train was doing anywhere near 60.

    • @tbh791
      @tbh791 2 місяці тому +1

      Here's the breakdown of speed limits for the Class Is:
      NS & CSX: Systemwide 60mph maximum for intermodal only, 50mph for everything else (merchandise, mixed freight, manifest, and coal trains)
      Out west, it's a little different because it's not as densely populated. Union Pacific and BNSF allow 70mph maximum for intermodal only, coal trains can do 60, and merchandise/manifests/mixed freights are 50mph maximum. I'm not familiar with CPKC or CN's operating practices, so I don't know what their speed limits are.

    NS usually run their trains at 60 mph if it's a regular freight 50 if it's a key train or has 20 or more hazmat cars and 40 if it has a lot of light long and heavy cars or 40 or more auto racks scattered throughout the train but the speeds vary around a certain amount of freight cars and the type

    when a knuckle pin breaks like that, the knuckle and coupler where it fits into, are designed so that the knuckle does not not fall out , hence no train separation. In fact when the head of the pin pops off like that, the remainder of the pin may fall out immediately, some period down the road, or may stay in suspension for a period of time until trained freight car inspectors will tag the car for that defect. The forces of pulling or pushing help to keep the broken pin in place, as well as the wear on the pins shaft which forms shoulders from the levels of swiveling in the pin bore where the knuckle rocks back and forth in its restricted short path of movement in its locked or closed position. The hole on the bottom is for a three eights cotter key, which keeps the entire pin from jumping out of its bore when cars collide in switching. Also some cars are tipped or rotated to empty their load ,the pins are not to fall into the unloading works. When an uncoupling lever is pulled to open a knuckle, if the pin is missing completely, the knuckle simply falls on the ground.

    The mixed freight sure had a load of aluminum pigs! Maybe the delivery was overdue and that's why they were going so fast? I don't know. 😊😊😊❤❤❤

    Great video. I use fair a rada Bearcats 125. I also have a antenna that has a magnet base that will stick to a vehicle. The antenna is 5 8 wave with a 3 d.b gain

    Another awesome video. JT and I got a question for you. How many truck frames are on one of those flat cars I only count 10 per stack so that would be 40 per car but Scott says there’s 80 on each car unless they got 10 of them turned crossways and each stack then I could see that, but let me know And we’ll see you on the next one

    I'm thinking those cars would have to be sitting a long time to have a awesome picture like that on those autocars. It would take a while to get that done.

    Personally I think that the railroads shouldo set it up as art projects as long as they respect the logo of the railroad and all the markings on the cars let them have it.
    A lot of the stuff that's pretty nice and pretty interesting if you ask me.

      Yeah I agree, some of it shows talent. As long as they don't cover up the numbers and id markings

    The couplers are designed to not come apart or uncoupled if the pins break. A broken coupler jaw would cause the cars to separate.

    Big CSX Auto Racks Train has 130 cars. Counting made easier by the low speed (between 16 and 21 mph). I noticed the large "2MUCH" sign occupying the entire side of one car.
