- Straight Edges Crochet Hack
Are you tired of your crochet projects looking warped? Using a foundations turning chain will fix your problems. I’m going to teach you how to crochet straight edges every time. This stitch works great for double crochet stitches or bigger.
*Most people use chain 3 as their turning chain, and the crochet project will come out looking “spacey”.
*Another option is to chain 2 stitches and double crochet back into the same stitch. This might eliminate the gap, but unfortunately is will leave your crochet edges looking lumpy.
With this crochet hack, you will learn how to crochet straight edges perfectly every time. If you are looking for more crochet tips and tricks

I have a question. Do you do the same thing at the end of the tow before you turn? Like would the last stitch in the row be the stacked singles? I'm learning a lot and appreciate all that you do! Thank you 💘
I love how close you hold the yarn and hook to the camera and how you point to individual strands. That's really helpful and what a lot of other tutorial videos lack.
Awesome. ❤
Hi this is great, I always thought there was something wrong with my crochet til I found this. Where is the one for HDC please, I can’t find it on your playlists
Looking for straight edges for HDC
I’ve been crocheting for 50 years and never thought of trying to figure out how to create such a smooth finish to the sides. Awesome technique! Thank you! 💗
Thank you for sharing.
I feel exactly the same way 💖
Same @nylorij
I've tried other methods for straight edges. Sometimes it didn't matter bcuz I was putting on a border. But I'm going to try this next time I make a scarf or something. Thx for sharing😍
Amen! 45 yrs for me!
I've been crocheting since the mid 1940's, and have crocheted everything. I didn't know this. I've crocheted with fine thread and a 14 hook, and I've crocheted with worsted for afghans. This old dog learned a new trick. Thank you.
And they say u can't teach an old dog new tricks.
yep, me too
I love that!
Old dog???
Could not have said it better myself.
Jaw drop. In 40+ years of crocheting, this is completely NEW to me. You are a GENIUS!! Thank you!
Wonderful video! You got straight to it with no blah blah blah and gave us very clear instructions about what to do. Thanks so much.
Yep. Miss Littlejohn is one of my favorites bc she teaches about crocheting and does a superb job. And she doesn't blab mindlessly, or tell us about all her ills or problems, or vacations, or family members, or let her pets or kids interrupt her, or apologize for things that shouldn't have happened in the first place, bc they don't happen at all.❤
I personally like the NO Blah, Blah!!!
Great tip: Thanks a lot . 0:34 is the most repeated because your fingers almost cover the stitch we must go into making it hard to see. Remember: When you are a beginner one of the hardest things to "get" is what each stitch looks like and where to put the hook.
You are so talented. Not just in crochet skills but most importantly as a crochet teacher! Thank you for making these tutorials.
So that's what they mean by a stacked or chainless turn for straight edges - TY!!!
You're welcome!
I watched this tutorial a few weeks back, and I've been using this method ever since. I can't thank you enough for showing us how to do (FINALLY LOL) straight edges. It seemed no matter what I tried I still had gappy, lumpy edges. NOW my work looks so much better. Thank you thank you thank you. 😁😁👏👏👍👍
I thought it was just me who had the wonky edges, no matter how straight I try to get them!
If you want to use this method for a HDC, after the first SC do a Slip Stitch instead of the second SC.
Another great tip!
As a beginner, this is the BEST explanation and instruction I've seen! THANK YOU!! ❤
Oh boy, this is a game-changer! Thank you so much for showing us this!
Glad I could help 😸
H
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing your crochet hack!!! Love this!
Oh nice thank you 😊
I’ve been shown (and used) several methods for acquiring straight edges without holes. This one is the best ever. Thank you!
This is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE way to keep my sides straight, thank you so much! It looks so neat and tidy
I've only been crocheting for a couple of years, but in 90 seconds you've improved the quality of most things I'll ever make moving forward. Thank you!
That is Flipping! Awesome!!
50 yrs. and still love Crochet, and this old dog is learning new tricks! ... I love it! Thanks for sharing
OMG this is wonderful!! I have been making cowls for Christmas and I have been getting holes at the end from the chain 3. On my next cowl I will be doing this trick! Thank you so much!!!! 🐰🐰
О боже!!! Где же вы были раньше... Спасибо огромное!!!🥰🥰🥰
I've been crocheting for 20 years and this is the best hack I've seen to date!!! Amazing!!
I agree, been doing crocheting for sixty years and have never, ever seen this! I subscribing to you! Thank you❤️
Oh I love learning something new. Thank you so much. I will definitely give This a try. I have never like those little gaps at the end of each row. Great tutorial.
Thank you for an excellent short, sweet and informative video! I don't have the time or patience for really long, drawn out videos, this is so much better. New subbie! Xx
I was googling something and two of your videos came up. I think you are going to be my biggest helper on learning different techniques to make my crocheting look like I have been crocheting for years not just months! Thank you ❤
Ok, I think this just changed my entire crochet game for life!!! Thanks 😊
I’ve been crocheting for 50+ and can’t wait to try this stitch. I know it will work beautifully. Thank You for sharing
Noooooo! I've been crocheting for decades and you just changed everything!! Wow! Thank you so much!
Mind, blown. This is one of those "simple" things that's just like... how on earth is everyone not doing it this way already!!! Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome
My Mom taught me this decades ago, but I forgot since I hadn't crocheted in years. Thank you so much. She had all kinds of professional level techniques for beautiful knitting and crochet, she was a designer, but I only half listened and now she is no longer around to ask.
Wow! What a delight to find this hack! Thank you so much! I’m getting back to crochet after a 60 year absence, and want to learn the new better ways to doa nice job. This is one really great start! I’m grateful!🥰
You are so welcome! Welcome back to the world world of Crochet🥰
I’ve been crocheting for nearly 20 years and never knew this technique existed. Edging will be SO much easier and nicer looking now. Thank you!
W O W !!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I've been crocheting for a few decades but never saw this. Perfection.
WOW! I have been crocheting for over 50 years and never seen this. I am an advanced crocheter and didn't think I could learn anything else. I watched because I was curious. This is so much simpler than what I do. Thank you very much.
been crocheting for 40 years & This Is A Game Changer! thank you
So awesome! I’m a full skein into a moss stitch baby blanket and now I want to pull it all out and start over just to fix my edges, LOL!
Oh no. Don’t pull it out😂😂 try on your next pattern lol
That is sheer genius, and you have just singlehandedly made me a much better crocheter.
I’m new to this and after reading the comments I’m so thankful I stumbled upon this hack now. Thank you 😊 ❤
Not just straight edges but much more friendly to seam!!! Thank you!
The best tip ever. My edges are truly straight. Thank you.
I am floored. Mind is blown. I will be using this trick from now on.
OMG! It worked THANK YOU SO MUCH! This might improve the crib sized baby afghan I’ve been working on for my coworker/friend/manager at my grocery store’s customer service who’s having her baby in November, 2023.
Thank you so much for this video. It has been a blessing to me. I don't know how many times I ripped out my work and started over.
Bumpy edges ruins everything!
This is great. I have been crocheting for 40 years and have never seen this before! You are amazing!!
This is slick! I've been crocheting over 45 years, never saw this one! Gotta try it. Thanks!
Why, why, why didn’t I see this sooner!!!!!!! 😩 ♥️ all my work would have been perfect, but I would always work it out, but this ♥️CHANGED MY CROCHET LIFE♥️ I’m just “Soo grateful “ for this!!! Trust me!!!🤣👍🏼♥️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼♥️
This is the best tip EVER! Thank you SO much for sharing it! My swatch was PERFECT! I can't wait for your tip for shorter stitches! 🧶🧶🧶
New crocheter here….what an amazing find this video is. THANK YOU 💖
Genius! Waiting on the hdc and sc tutorial❣
Wow, thank you so much! I"ve been crocheting for over 40 years and usually only crochet amis in the round because I hate doing straight edges because they're never straight. I only hope I can remember this next time I do a scarf or something.
I tried the tips you gave me. Before, I repeated the wrong case, and I thought that was the natural result. Now it is enough to cut my hand on my knitted fabric with sharp edges. Now, I feel better after knitting, so I want to keep knitting. Thank you so much.
Thank you for sharing. I do one sc all around one row....Then I do HDC one row all around
all my work. AND it works.
This worked great ! My scarf and lap blanket look so nice on the edges!
Glad it helped!
Wow!!! Thank you!! I've crocheted for over 20 years and didn't know this!
this is SO HELPFUL, especially for making scarves! I never liked the way their edges ended up until now! thanks a lot!
thank you I love learning new ways to make out projects better again thank you
You are so welcome!
🤯
I’ve only known how to crochet for about 6-7 years and I’ve never seen this! AMAZING!
Nice. No more extra effort needed to crochet for the edge anymore. thanks
Wow gotta try this technique! It should dissolve my frustration over this messy edges issue, THANK U🙌🏻😀!!
Wow!!!! I don't crochet too much because I hate the bumpy edges! You have opened up a whole new craft for me❤ thank you!❤
You’re welcome
That’s amazing! I had read about it couldn’t figure it out on my own. Thanks Little John
This just BLOWS MY MIND!! thanks for sharing this hack.
Very best hack ever!! Thank you so much! And you don’t have to go searching for how to get into that final stitch.
THIS IS IMCREDIBLE
I knew there had to be a better way to get straight edges! THANK YOU!!!
You just changed my crochet life!!!!! THANK YOUUU
Clear and concise, my favourite type of tutorial. Thank you.
All I can say is WOW! Thank you! I hate those gaps.
You are an awesome teacher, easy to follow!!! You explain at a lovely pace which means “the world”, and your work as well, so Thank You!!👍🏼♥️😉
Alysha, you are a great teacher!!! Thanks for making my day!
Brilliant. I’ve seen a few different techniques to get this straight edge, this is far superior! Best looking and easiest way I’ve seen to obtain it. Way to go!
Great information and demonstration, now, if I can just remember this! Thank you for your post, I'm sure many seeing this will appreciate it!
Glad it was helpful!
I just started crouching again. I learned in my teens and life got in the way so after 40 years I'm giving it a try. This video was just what I needed to stay straight!
Welcome back to the crochet world ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love this tip. I will use it from now on. I can't wait for the smaller size stitch tips.
Thank you so much, I've been making bags recently and doing long chains for the straps drives me crazy thanks to you I can now make them the width I want and do shorter rows
Genius - has worked out So much neater - thank you!
Life changing!! Thank you for sharing. I have many projects that I really love, but those funky edges make me feel like I'm doing a poor job. This will help immensely 😮
Thank you for this great tip. I am using your tip in granny's as well. Works great and look much better.
Thank you!!! Soooo much cleaner than any other method I’ve found, especially with a treble stitch!
Omg this is the best!! I was making two straps for a bag and I undid both of them and followed your tutorial. It looks sooo much nicer! Thank you!!
Thank you so much I’m struggling with blanket edges im so happy and amazed 😅😊❤
Results look amazing, and very quick clear explanation of how to get there! Thank you so much!
Awesome tip, now to just try to remember this is another thing. Thanks Alyshia
Thank you! I’m working on crocheting wash cloths and wanted to work on having a non-wonky edge. Your tutorial is concise, well made, and SUPER helpful.
TY, I love you for teaching me this trick. This is my first time watching your channel and I subscribed and gave you a thumbs up.
Thank you so much & I love the fact that you are very clear on explaining this method.
Wow - so helpful! I've always kind of low-level hated the part in a project where I have to either join pieces or add on trim, because the edge was just all over the place. This will make it so much easier, and neater-looking too!
Thanks for the great tip. Now I finally have a nice, clean edge.
Thank you. I completely forgot about this 💓. I stopped crocheting for about 5years. This was one of my hacks.🤭😄
Thank you! My project looks so much better! Thank you for sharing this hack.
That is amazing 😯😯😯 I swear I was looking for a solution for this problem , the edges of the crochet . Thank you thank you thank you sooooooooooo much 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Thanks! Saludos y bendiciones desde la CDMX en mi México lindo y querido
Oh my goodness!!! This is a game changer, can't wait to try it, thank you!!
I thought it was much more difficult! Great and clear explanation
Thank you, thank you, thank you, this method has been the best for straight edges. Thank you again👏👏👏👏👏
Daaang! Great hack! So glad a stumbled upon this. Thank you!
I have been having so many problems with keeping my scarfs straight. Thank You
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! What an easy way to keep edges neat and tidy!!
Holy moly let me start my project over!! This is amazing
THANK YOU! What I do is turn the work then slip stitch into the first stitch and then chain three for the pretend dc and then carry on with the work. It helps keep the edge smooth, but your nifty trick is *WAAAAAAAAAAAY* better because it actually mimics the shape and body of a dc stitch. Brava! You have my undying admiration and gratitude. :°}
WOW!! Thank you so much for sharing everything with us!!!
Please take care and stay safe and healthy 💕💗💖🎶🦋
You are a great teacher and to the point!
