    You should make walking part of your day everyday. If you are not walking , I mean intentionally walking for at least 15 minutes everyday, you will slowly lose the strength and balance you need to walk as you get older. But if you walk daily and slowly build up to 15 then more of continuous walking, your life will improve exponentially. We are literally built to walk. Everything from our posture to our strength is influenced by how well and often we walk.

      I am 74, and a prisoner in my house most of the time from Nov.-March because my neighbors can't be bothered to shovel and salt their walks. I climb my stairs and do housework in winter, but walk an hour most days when there's no ice.

    Thank you! I'm 75 and I try to use the stairs (2 flights) daily, unless both hands are full and I can't use the railing. I am only now starting to have some knee pain, so I am going to start doing this exercise daily. My apartment is next to the stairwell so I can easily do this, even when I have to use the elevator. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in my early 50's so I have always been extra mindful about balance issues and leg weakness. I am completely alone so this exercise will definitely help me continue to live at home!

    You have changed my life forever! I have worked my way up to been doing all ten exercises😊It took me months to accomplish this but the results are incredible.The way you present yourself is very professional. You speak at a pace that can clearly be understood. I love the part where you go over why each exercise is so important to achieving success.Also you repeat the exercises with a client who is truly having real difficulties like me. I happened to stumble on your video thank heavens I did. I quickly pushed the subscribe button so I could gain more information about getting my balance back at age 72! and I did.Now I am independent again-what a fabulous accomplishment and it is because of the work/commitment you have to making seniors lives better

    Glad I found this. I'm approaching 70, no problems so far except a few months ago when I tried to run to the gate to deal with a dog issue. When I tried to take off it was like my left leg wasn't there suddenly and down I went. Very weird feeling. Will add this to my morning routine. Thank you.

    I agree. I have two horses I do all the care on every day as they are here at the house. The ground can be uneven, frozen, muddy, or hard. I clean stalls and lead in and out. Horses are flighty unpredictable animals, will spook and resist directions at times. Hay bales are heavy, need to be lifted and carried. I might hate walking aimlessly but having a purpose to the animal’s care gives motivation.
    It absolutely has improved my balance and stride. You don’t get to pick and choose your exercise. You direct, but also react to the horse’s movements.

    For me, this exercise is easy peasy. Would I really benefit from it? I use this technique all the time. The best way, often the only way, I have to get up on a step is to step up backwards like this. I don't seem to be able to lift my foot forward and bend my knee high enough to put my foot on a step in front of me, but lifting my foot behind me is easy and I have strength stepping back and up onto a step or curb behind me. I turn around backwards to go up a curb this way, and once I'm up I lift my walker up to me. It's the only way I can get up there, unless the curb is really low.

    • @maryangellwalsh
      @maryangellwalsh 4 місяці тому +1

      @jintzie1950jth
      I’m just the opposite. I could step up backwards with my left leg, but not my right one.
      This shows us both what we really need to work on to walk normally and independently. You need to strengthen your quads and shin muscles to be able to lift your legs forward. Using these videos to strengthen all our muscles will keep us independent and maybe make your walker unnecessary eventually. I need to concentrate on this backward leg lift shown on this video.
      Interesting how we all have different problems and I’m so thankful for these UA-cam videos. ❤

    Would this be helpful for someone like me who has had 7 spinal surgeries? My left leg is very weak. The foot and lower leg starts to feel numb after walking only for about 5 minutes. I also have to use a walker to walk. Neurological testing done in 2017 revealed that I only have two functioning nerves below the knee on my left leg. I cannot stand unsupported. i have to keep shifting my feet. I don't know if I will ever see any improvement. My last surgery was October 2023, and the surgeon says we need to give it at least a year. Still, even if nothing much changes, i do think your exercise would be beneficial.

      For me, I would start with a step that is low enough that it isn't hard to manage, and over time I would try the exercise on steps that are a little bit higher, then a little more, just a little bit at a time. Does that make sense? Keep it within the range of what you can do and that isn't too hard, is what I'm thinking, and make progress that is secure and solid and safe.
