COMMENT: Which side would you have taken - Alfred's traditional approach or Pierre and Coleman's modernization?

Unfortunately greed took over . I'm more for traditional approaches when the family is controlling the business they created .

I would had taken a mixture of both. I think it is important in a family business, that the family runs their business, mantaining family control, and tradition, but at the same time it is very important to modernize and expand the business; so I would demand to family members that are involved in the management of their business to adapt new management techniques and prepare professionally for that new stage in the company´s growth. I don´t think it is necessary to separate both management strategies.

You could not have said it better. Maintaining the traditional principles of in depth hands on knowledge of the craft would ensure a high degree of quality in production. Many a time when business expand there is a compromise on the quality of the product. However there was also the need to modernise so as to keep up with the ongoing flow of technological advancememts. So there are pros & cons to it.

I had to watch one more video after subscribing. Again, another exceptional video - and - a bit sad. This was, as you say "a new era" beginning. I won't expand on that as it is futile, words in the wind. Thanks again, I'm looking forward to some of your other video's.

„Wer nicht mit der Zeit geht, geht mit der Zeit“. Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805). ... analogously ... “He who does not move with the times, will be left behind.” Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805).

I would have taken Alfred's traditional approach, it would not have prevented the company from growing , more videos on corporate intrigue please!

Alfred's approach was old n most likely inefficient by the time he lost out to Pierre and Coleman's it seems like Alfred was the perfect archetype for an old man stuck in old ways.....

The company would have died or sold if it did not diversify. It’s usually the third generation that the shares become so dilute it they don’t want to deal with it that businesses are sold.

As an investor in this stock for at least 10 years, this was a hidden information to today's stock investor. However, i will still buy more of this strong company in Delaware.

I’m the first male in 3 generations on both sides of my family not to work for DuPont. They were a great company until the mid-90’s, and they went to hell after that. Ironically, so did Wilmington.

I would have taken the traditional approach which was definitely the wrong way to go. Had they gone traditional way they would still be a little powder co. On the river and not a world wide chemical co.
