COMMENT: What are your thoughts on the Hartford family's story and legacy - and, do you see parallels between Huntington Hartford's rise and fall and the experiences of other wealthy heirs throughout history?

This story is very familiar to my grandfather's financial situation... His family's 4th generational fortune faded away in less than a generation... I prided myself on being the cheapest in any group of people but the opposite was true when it comes to my ancestors

That is just fine. It's their wealth. What's unacceptable and disgusting is when politicians build their dream mansions and big business using taxpayer's money.

Acceptable in a land built on stolen land and labor.

Ambition is good. But unbridled inordinate ambition can be dangerous. Reckless ness mistaken for boldness must be tempered by discipline to achieve reasonable goals. Good video.

I worked at the A&P grocery store in 1963, 1964, and part of 1965, while in high school in part-time. I made $1.10 per hour. It was considered a hometown store.

Mr. Huntington Hartford II spent money on frivolous pursuits, and A&P declined as the premier supermarket in the US during the 1950s. The dividends from A&P were not reinvested back into the company. Soon A&P supermarkets were small and outdated compared to their competitors.

Buying an island is nothing compared to billionaires today buying 500 Million dollar boats.

was his money to do what he wanted. not like a politician that embezzles money from taxpayers.

You are referring to Dini Pickering, I suppose.
