171cc GY6 Ruckus First freeway ride and Speed Test
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- So fresh off of my GY6 171CC build I decided to go ahead and do a speed test. Keep in mind that I did no tuning of any sort after putting this together and only had about 3 miles on the motor driving slow through the neighborhood. During the speed test I decided to go ahead and take the freeway for the first time ever on the Honda ruckus. If you watch the video you'll notice that I'm very hesitant and scared and that's because it's a fresh motor and I don't know if something could go wrong while riding extremely fast on a tiny ruckus on the freeway. Please enjoy and I would love to see some comments about this video.
NOTE: I am not an expert but more of an enthusiast who is trying to build experience. Please feel free to ask questions in the comments or resources like 49ccScoot forums on the internet (Great Place!)

This was awesome
Legend has it, he still has not thrown it down to full throttle because the wind is stronger than his testosterone
Fear was my enemy, I did say "Not full throttle a lot". I like being a legend , sounds cool.
A-A-Ron you funny as hell bro 😂
bro, i wasnt even full throttle!
yeah, yeah typical ricer excuse
Loud ass music in the beginning makes up for it
That is awesome, going fast on something small vs fast on something big are completely different, now I want a ruckus!!!
Just did my first Chuckus. Stock 150 with fuel pump, carb, cdi, coil, exhaust, and regulator. 54 in 1/4 mile feels like I am flying by seat of pants when the cross wind comes. Good video, I feel you on the confidence thing 👍
Nice work! when you are that low 50mph feels FAST!
I know why you were scared, its because that looks like Texas. The fact that you actually got on the freeway is amazing. They drive completely crazy.
Dude u have 170cc under u , be confident and drop the hammer , I pulled 76 miles an hour on a stock 150cc johnjohn or johnway don't remember exact name but I pulled it off on I95 south bound from nw 79st down to the 112.
Buying a ruckus this week and need carbs cleaned out and stuff.... 150cc♥️💯
Scooter Envy-We got on 99 with GET Rucks.(Spring to Roman Forest) great test road for speed and less traffic.
Drink every time he says "Not Full Throttle".
Drunk AF!
i have a feeling he was full throttle, 65 is about top speed for a ruckus
Inm n$ote evenz/i dru,bjt3k ye>ts
Now its a GETin' it, without the get. lol. Looks great out in the sun. I see you got the matching gloves. Definitely makes it.
Right on thanks man
Nice ride, too bad it so windy. Thank you for showing. 👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
As a biker I feel that level of anxiety at around 165.
Try full throttle on a bike that has a seat hight of 19-20 inches off the ground on a chassis that was built to go 40 mph with 75% of the parts either aftermarket or home made and a motor that was not made for the bike. The Ruckus in the video is basically equivalent to a home made scooter made by a guy who uses UA-cam and Facebook groups as his guide. 165 on a bike built to go around that speeds has anxiety but your thoughts are “I might crash or hit someone”, not “I hope I tightened all the bolts on right and didn’t forget anything”
@@SmallEngineVelocity ha yea I can imagine. I'm about to find out exactly what that's like I'm building an electric ruckus to go as fast as I possibly can lol
Oh man, I’ve been wanting to do that too the only swingarm And motor that I can find is on those China websites. You really have to keep me posted on that one I’d like to see how you approach the build.
@@SmallEngineVelocity I'm a machinist/welder so fabricating parts is no big deal. I unbolted the engine and I'm going to use the factory swing arm. All I need to build is an adaptor for the motor and replace the cvt with a chain and sprocket.
@@SteveOLive88 you set man. Pro skills and probably access to fab tools I can only dream of
Yeah man been waiting on that video looks like it's getting on down the road pretty good I love the scoots man thanks Caesar I'm glad it's working out for you bud👍... and by the way I've been enjoying the live feeds pretty cool dude!!!
More to come! i got another Live tonight. Figure I could do this since I can't get out much right now.
Great video I'm sold on the mad dog v gen,I'm hyped 😁😁
Hope you enjoy it! I have a friend who did a 171cc upgrade on his Maddog G5
This makes me want to consider building my ruckus again
This scene is coming back! I just ordered my gy6. Seems like EVERYONE is out of wiring harnesses
@@TheBiscuitFactory it is coming back yes. and with the availability of EFI and simple.. yeah, new breath into it.
You need me to do your test rides lol, My rockus does 180 but its made for drag races, you really need to just send it, you dont know how speed hungry you'll become once you stop being afraid pull and hold on lol
I’d actually do that , out my helmet on and do a speed run and record it for me lol
Best feelin ever!
Brrrrraaaaap!
Grown men more fearful than a five year old me on my YZ Zinger...
i got my period just watching this
Im looking for a mini bke to have for short rides but with enough power to get on the highway and this seems like something I would like even with this video being so old.
Your pretty brave to go that fast on a rukus I just bought one stock is what they are made for
Speed demon over here. Definitely won't be able to keep up with you and Lee anymore lol 🛵💨💨
imagine us with little GETs, lol
super sketchy - i was scared to be honest
Can't even imagine what the 232 guys feel like 😬
Thats awesome !! That thing moves nice!!
Sounds good man just listen to the note of the muffler
You got in 249 with it!! That Tomball traffic will kill you!! 😂🤣
I live in Oklahoma so I know exactly how you feel when it comes to the wind. It’s scary on a ruckus
It’s irregular because of the cam. It’s called lope...
Being he said check the valves when it's "SUPER COLD", I'd say there's a pretty good chance he doesn't really know much about engines in the first place.
@@billymanilli
Bet he knows more than you do when it comes to the gy6…
@@king0dasouf What's that supposed to mean? lol A scooter engine is no different than any other ICE when it comes to setting valve lash. If you want to bet about that (who's correct and who's not), just let me know how much money you'd like to lose, and we'll set something up.
@@billymanilli
Eat my shorts
You know diddly
I was nervous watching Kinda sketchy I have one icebear 80cc I would like to get something like yours. Fun. be careful.
I love that you did a full build with many upgrades to make it highway speed. My first question is when you switch to the GY6 150cc did you have to from AC circuit to DC circuit?? I've got a towel towel cruiser bike just like the Honda ruckus, and I want to put a GY6 150cc engine with the Big bore kit and high performance carburetor and whatnot to make it go fast like this I have a dual shock in the back of mine and a fat back tire as well.
Great video!
Thanks!
do you need to upgrade the brakes now you are getting higher speeds? Seems to me that Honda designed the brakes for much lower speeds.
I have a single two piston disk in the front and 1000% yes ... If I had drum still in the front I'd be running tough intersections all the time
Good question
Definitely somewhere in Texas. Looks like Richardson area??
North Houston :)
😮freeway baby nice ride
I did the same earlier today going to work wasn’t that bad
Dude I was nervous for you!!!😩😳
It passed to our right and it’s sunny outside and cool. I enjoy the cold air after a storm.
Hey I want to get a 50cc u think I can make it faster I live in nyc maybe u help out
Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers! People say cheers at work so i'm practicing
Small Engine Velocity lmao people are saying cheers? Really? Only time I hear anyone say that is on tv and the channel on here Ruck style UK
curious to know a wide open top speed? stock variator/clutch assembly? what all did you do with the 171 kit? stock head? cam?
im building one now and ordered up a really nice variator and clutch kit and thinking about doing the 171 kit with a cam also. i wanna do like 80
Why is this in 360p resolution? Are you still using a dialup connection to upload?
I recently upgraded to ISDN line!
Would you happen to know what the ruckus weighs after all of your modifications?
No but that’s a good question
Damn bro u were cookin!
What gram sliders or rollers are you running in your cvt ?? I’m about to do the 171cc ncy big bore kit I already have a yoshimura exhaust 30mm carb and whole ncy super transmission cvt kit installed but I’m running 10 gram rollers ncy but was planning to change them not sure I weigh 165-170
Every bike I owned while living here I've rode on the GSP. 150cc 6 speed grom clone and a 250RR doing max speed in worst of winds. It's not a true speed test if you aren't going to go WOT
Let’s make some ruckus
Thought your not suppose to be on the hwy with that thing? I know even tho it’s swap and it can go the speed limit, it’s still consider a 40 mile scooter.. which it doesn’t consider a license. But if a cop see you on the highway with that… you probably got a lot of law breaking to explain. Lol. Besides it’s a small scooter and a lot of big cars. A lot of high wind.
Agreed and it was only two exits long of a ride. I see Groms on the freeway
@@SmallEngineVelocity but isn’t the Grom consider to have a license? They are factory to be running the higher cc so they are suppose to be in the higher mph. So I’m guessing seeing a grom on a highway is probably more reasonable then seeing a ruckus. But still.. a grom still shouldn’t be on a hwy right? Living in WI I haven’t seen a grom on a hwy. I’ve seen some factory higher cc scooter also but they still don’t go on the hwy.
@@jeff4823 I agree with you 100%. I was thinking of going bigger on my ruck to be able to hit higher speeds when needed (my gy6 tops out at 57 and my ride to work speed limit is 55 but most cars hit 60+ at times and I hate them flying by me) but I would NEVER take my ruck on the freeway even if I could go faster. I’m in Wisconsin as well and between the trash roads and idiot Milwaukee drivers it’s super dangerous. I’ve seen 2 groms on the freeway the past 3 years and they are freeway legal. Just not the safest place for them. Stay safe my friends and always be aware of your surroundings!! Jeff I hope to ride by you sometime! If you see me I’ll be on a lowered/stretched red ruck with black wheels around the Waukesha area.
@@ASLackey22 sup bro. For sure one day we’ll get to ride together. You got a Instagram? Maybe one day I’ll drive the evo 4 down and we cruise. Lol
Nice!!! 😁
That good 👍 with full tratle you can do maybe 75
What does you bike usually do for mph up a hill? Thanks!
HTown 🤘
Any plans for even bigger displacement? 228cc?
Don't do that again until you test it out on a clear road man. There's no good reason to risk your life like that. Surely there is someplace better that you can test that thing? You more than doubled the manufacturer speed for what it was designed to do. That is a really cool bike but I don't get why people want to mod these out to do dangerous speed. Ok nuff said. Laters
@@nurzrachit7133 because it’s painfully slow. I would fine with just 40-50 mph if the acceleration wasn’t so bad.
You shot take time after built your motor Ceasar in case breaks some things!
Can the parts work on the ice bear maddog?
One a 150cc, Yes
A Ruckus wasn't built to go over 45 mph. You're getting thrown around by the wind and draft of other cars because the Ruckus is too lite to go that fast. You're taking a big risk by going that fast. You want to go faster than a Ruckus? Get a 250 cc Big Ruckus.
You go faster with lighter frame I have a 250 swapped on a 50cc frame from a Chinese scooter top speed 87mph wind and rain suck but it's part if the fun and experience, I daily drive it
It’s that edge you ride that makes me exciting. I do need to upgrade to rear disk
I would rather ride than work on my Ruckus. With a GY6 conversion riders are always fixing something because something is always breaking down.
See im different, I think working on them, and tuning, tweaking things and adding custom "unique, make it your own, not a cookie cutter" things, and taking away things, going a different route with them is just as fun as riding.. Sometimes you end up with something far more joyful than you could ever have factory.
BORING
Is this Texas?
Yes
@@SmallEngineVelocity crazy how I remember that exact road and exit and that quick trip. I was just there
You have a good memory :) this is my standard testing route. If I'm fast enough I go on the freeway for 2 exits, if I'm not I stay of the feeder (access road).
@@SmallEngineVelocity can’t wait to get mines
My 150cc is stock ooh I did the clutch en the ex system
wow, gotta be strange going that fast on really nothing
i wonder what the bike looks like
Got a a few videos on the channel you can take a peek at. Even full build series
What rpm’s are you running at 60 mph
Any Saddle box idea mate
Kaerka ?

you still running the electric fuel pump on this set up?
Yes and going strong still
@@SmallEngineVelocity awesome I'm debating on doing it myself on my 232cc
do you really feel the power ?
Bro how long you been riding? And you scared of a few gusts of wind? Bro...
Sure easy to say when you ride bikes OEM and tested. 100% of everything under the seat and from the middle back is either home made , bolt on’s and mismatched parts from other bikes. I’d like to see your confidence moving 70+ on something that has a lean angle +\- 15%.
I want to see this from third person lol
I’ll make a video
And thanks for the idea
I know how feel like be chicken on open roads Ceasar! After all i was in crash two them by cars & 3 them by motorbike.
ROY WALLS jeez
@@EbolaSquirrel A motorcycle run a red light hit other car & two people fly up over car and on my van one went through windshield & other person stuck under my van blood all over me!
U smart these aren’t aerodynamic at all high winds semi trucks and bumps in the road are mopeds worst enemy !
Would you mind telling me what weight rollers you used please?
12g dr pully sliders
@@SmallEngineVelocity Thanks :)
I do that speed in my 150cc gy6 I do 65 en is not open tratle
LOL what I feel like is having a big engine placement doesn't make it fast like what I mean is I'm pretty sure I engine that's a hundred and seventy could go the exact same speed as a 93 bore and I'm pretty sure it even a 93 board what I have with a nitrous can probably could even beat it cuz most 170 CC's or 150 or normally bigger and most of the Riders are bigger as well that's a lot of extra weight most 150cc even with all the tuning most of them go I seen is like 70 or 60 I know pretty sure after I'm done tuning my bike my 93 nitrous TaoTao scooter scooter 4-stroke would reach about 80 or 90 I even put the final Gear Drive In I am tuning this baby to the max
Go full throttle man... Just do it😆
Very bad spot to do a speed test on such a small bike. 😕 wind toss you around like nothing could easily die
Agreed. There is no where else I can get a long runway than 1 or 2 freeway exits
@@SmallEngineVelocity fair enough.. just saying i hate taking any of my small bikes on the highway even my 250cc cruiser gets tossed around like nothing i never took that thing over 60mph lol 😆 yours is lower and should be safer but still takes some getting use to.
That 18 wheeler really scared me , at a certain point there was a wall of air . Trust me that’s just a test , everyday riding we stay less than 50
5👍👍👍👍👍
nice scooter, i like it,. could you send me one,?
1:20 That's not right! You want to check the valves when it's HOT.
Sorry, I do not agree. That would only cause cold starts to have a valve gap/last to wide open and run terribly until it gets warm. For a GY6 or GET this seems to work best. There are other camps out there that ask you to set it, warm the motor a bit, and check it again to see how much of a change and adjust a little but this is a single-cylinder motor.
For an engine with cast-iron heads and steel valves, you can expect the lash to tighten up a couple of thousandths of an inch as it heats up-so for the cold lash you would set the valve lash a couple thousandths larger than the cam manufacturer's recommended hot lash setting
@@SmallEngineVelocity That's cool man, you don't have to agree. ..and if you wanna set them cold, that's fine. Just stating the fact that valve lash is supposed to be measured when the motor is hot. The reason is, (as you said) metal expands when it's hot, and that's when the gap will be tightest. It's done this way because you take SEVERAL variables out of the "equation" that you would encounter setting them cold.
For one, the cam mfg doesn't know how "cold" your engine is, if you set it that way. IE, your lash will be looser at 30F than it will at 50, 70, 80 , 90 and so on... Once it's at operating temp, that's exactly where they're always gonna be when it's running normally. So, you don't have to "guess" how much they're going to tighten up. Another thing (especially with a "performance" build), is that valves made from different materials will expand different amounts, or if the stems are shorter/longer than stock, different diameters, etc... Just a lot of variables, that make it a "guessing game" if you set them cold.
Believe me, I know exactly what you're saying, and have done it plenty of times on small engines, myself (many times using the "no feeler gauge/That feels about right!" method), but I would never tell other people who want to learn "That's how it should be done". Maybe add in a bit next time, that says "set them cold a few thou looser and then check them after a spin"?
That said, I definitely didn't mean or intend to come across as rude or anything. I just heard something that I felt should be clarified/corrected. For a lot of people, these little scooters are their "first rodeo", and they're trying to learn. If some kid sets his valves to what the cam card says and the bike is cold, they're gonna be a bit too tight (or if he lives in Siberia, they might be a LOT too tight! hehe).
They to they too light to go on the freeway that's what's going on they too like they don't weigh that much
Bud it’s 65 not 165. Let it rip.
I get it but understand that 70% of the bike was replaced by aftermarket and home-brew parts. Everything under the seat and all the way back was put together BY ME so it's a bit scary riding 65-70 mph, especially since it's my first ride on the freeway.
Can't say top speed runs if your not running wot top speed is wot till she's got no more bud
Do you need a motorcycle license for this?
Yes
Yes
No
It only went 60. Not 65 there bud
So the numbers I am calling out is wrong ? Lol , if anything I was going faster because I found out later after a gps test was -5mph . Just trying to figure out how you got “it only went 60”
Kind of a waste. You have taken a brief WOT excursion just to show top. Looks like the 171cc isn't really a worthy option for all the problems that head introduces. I just saw my first in person 171 that cracked on the lower side wall.
I'm looking for 65 cruise with brief 70mph excursions.
Don’t buy a crappy head and you are good. I’ve riding this thing from one end of Houston all the way to almost Galveston holding 65 the majority of the way. It’s been in here now for 2k miles so it works for me.
When I bought my Honda PCX I went full throttle on the interstate and the engine ran great. The only reason you can't go full throttle is bad manufacturing. Or piss poor builder.
Open it up! Wtf
If u are that scared jump in my pocket u don't want me on your bike I would hold it wide open
Not full throttle bullshit.
Just throttle the thing 😂😂😂 wtf
If your scared go to church
deal
Please don’t drive on the highway
I don’t. This particular video was just 2 exits to test. Haven’t ran it since
@@SmallEngineVelocity are they safe on the highways
Heck no ! Not even close! I the base ruckus was only made to go 40mph , now that it has been modified to only 30% of the original parts it’s even less safe on the freeway.
