Spencer... you must have steel cajones. Makes me want to yak seeing you that high up! Where did you learn your tree cutting skills? Ever thought of using a battery powered limbing saw? I know the power isn’t the same. Anyhoo... impressive work as always!
Even cajones of steel freeze on a cold day! :) I've always been into climbing but took to the trees later in life. Now, a battery powered saw is HIGH on my list. Just waiting to have the dough from a few jobs and I'm gonna get one. They're just too cool, quiet, and the power looks good enough for me. Thanks man
@@metaspencer I have a few makita battery chainsaws and I like them, the older I get the more I like quiet with all my tools if possible.
@@misterz2719 sounds good to me
Between the heights and camera motion I was getting vertigo just watching. But still cool. My father in law is a tree surgeon but he has 85ft boom lift and bucket trucks for the tall stuff and a crane.
@@lugnutzz75 Ahhhh the bucket truck. Now that's working in style!
I hooked poles with the consturction crew for a telephone company for several years. You're a braver man than I am! Damn!
I think I'd like climbing those telephone poles: they look nice and predictable! :)
@@metaspencer Yep. The biggest danger was having your gaff kick out. The biggest headache? Hooking a fresh pole during the middle of summer in South Texas and having the creosote start running. This would gumm up on everying from your chest to your boots. Keep up the great work. Cheers, Dick from Vancouver.
That one had me twisting in my seat a little Spencer. I’m good to about 20’ for a tree stand. I appreciate your wit and humor.
Oh yeah high flyin
👍 from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 .
thanks for the video .
Thanks mate!
Nicely done...thanks for showing us your way of bringing it down. I’m sure your friend was glad to have it gone. 👍🏻
I think he's planting some new stuff there ... yeah, good to see it go :)
You are AWESOME! Thats not a job for me!!! That was Amazing! God bless you!
haha ... nice views up there. :) thanks for bouncing around the channel and checking out some videos
Nice job ... finally the 2511 T back in the house 😁😁😁.. my favorite top handle saw.. love those jobs with helpers sooooooooooo much easier...
I thought you’d like to see the 2511! Awesome little saw :)
You’re an asset to this world. Please double tie in with a spar anchor and rrp. It will make me feel better knowing you can bail out if you get hurt or a squirrel attacks you. Stay safe
Absolutely man. Thanks for that. Another kind soul made a similar reminder when this video first dropped, and I've been back on the spar anchor every climb since then. Definitely the way to go. Big thanks
The tree makes me think of something we might find in a max movie
Exactly! If you were living in a tree after a global apocalypse, you'd want some dangling chains :)
nice work Spencer...i'm already done with winter (I hate the cold)....bring back the sun!!!!!!!!
stay safe stay healthy
Bring on the sun!
Your new traveling rig looks good from up there
Thanks! Yeah, I might have looked down at it with a grin a few times :)
Keep the Sthils for sure. Echo 2511 is just about the best for limbing, some smaller topping. But I discovered the best , ever-start, intermediate toping saw, especially for 16” girths at heights. I added custom right sided handle to stock bar (like west coast fellers) so I can stay cutting in better position) Gets great “miliage” and good value for the price. Echo CS-400. I’ll try to send photo. Older Solo Tree Guy 😅
cs-400! good to hear man ... lots of power there
I can't be the only one waiting on the squirrel 🤣🐿️😃

@@metaspencer I saw it. From your post the other day I was expecting more drama. lol
Have a dislike of heights and a fear of falling from them. But somehow these tree videos are so relaxing. You do a great job.
Interesting! Well, thanks for checking it out
Nice echo saw.
I love that little bugger! light as a feather
Squirrel time! Haha!!
That little dude was fast!
Awesome video brother as always
Thanks man ... avoid those chainy trees!
Fit going up there 👨🔧
oh yeah!
Admittedly, whenever your truck snuck into the frame, I paused the video to admire it. 😁
haha ... you and me both!
The subtle bopit references.
haha ... gotta work it in there :)
Great job 👏
That was a wild, medieval tree :)
I love playing City Skyline and the images in your video made me think of it. On the other hand, I would not have put a railroad uprooting houses 😁
Very nice of Bill to help you load all the branches into the green beast. Good work again, thanks for sharing 👍
I spent a good bit of time up there looking around and noticing the tracks. Right at the end of the job the train went by and shook the ground. Wild. Thanks for checking it out!
Thats the way i did it 👍👍👍
Nice work
Thanks buddy. That tree was possessed
How did you know it wasn't 87.17438 feet tall?
Thanks for the great content.
Keep up the good work.

Good question! My tape measure could be a bit off :) Always good to hear from ya.
I cant deny some of the new husqvarna small saws are bad little gals
I've been tempted to buy one myself but my current Echo is still on life support and hanging in there
@@metaspencer i mean like the 440s and ones in that class ive never owned one but my buddy does and i ran the crap out of a 440 they are nice for having to have bigger than top handle
Nice!!!
haha ... now that was one whacky tree :)
Hi, Spencer. I also do tree work. First, to each his own - please consider you were only tied in with one line while making most of these cuts (unless I'm missing something), and you had no way to quickly descend in case of emergency. Again, if you are okay with that level of risk, power to you. Good luck, be safe!
You're absolutely right: I typically use a secondary anchor off my center bridge and should have been doing that for all of this job. While descending I did have a backup (lanyard on a wrap) but it wouldn't be long enough for a full descent. Thanks for the reminder!
bet you have never needed bolt cutters for tree removal.. lol good interesting video!
Or a plasma cutter! Crazy
Since you are considering a battery powered chainsaw you might want to check out Project Farm and Concord Carpenter youtube channels. They have pretty comprehensive reviews of the saws.
Thanks for the tip. Somehow I'd never see the "project farm" channel. Great comparisons over there! Super technical and smart.
Nice tree work. What size is that ECHO top handle saw?
the main echo I run is the 2511t ... that might have been one of the bigger echos which I use less often
16:32 MS261 if you dont already have one
Oooooo, so another saw to buy?! Gotta do it
@@metaspencer yup
Your buddy could have used a hard hat. How did the nearly new diesel beast work on the first tree job? Looked like it was working well. Lol “ what da fuq is that?” Had me busting up.
Doh! I should have given him my extra helmet. Next time. Truck has been really great out there ... I'm still getting used to the arrangement but think it's growing on me
this worries me . . . but I love the video anyway!
Worry not! We have firewood now! :)
Was that the first tree job with the newly rebuilt truck?
It sure was! I had a bit of trouble finding all my gear so will have to break it in a bit more ... but boy does it haul that trailer! :) thanks for noticing
Is that the 2511? I’ve got a 271T, really like it.
2511, unported. I'm crazy about that little saw but still use my more powerful top-handle Stihl on bigger limbs (maples, etc.) I haven't tried the 271T but need a backup ... Thanks man
Nice work Spencer! That was a tall tree. Did you ever have any height issues when you first started do this? Pretty sure my knees would of been knocking on that one.
For some reason heights don't get to me ... they probably should! And this one was swaying with the breeze. :) Could be a defect that I have :) Always good to hear from ya
I try not to have to clean up every job usually dont pan out lol
Gotcha! I know what you mean, man
Nice work. How many cc is that stihl..
It's listed as 31.8 cc so smaller than the 200s and 201s, but it's got some good power in most situations up there
@metaspencer would you sell some of your webbings or do you have a link for some cheap ones? Thanks
@@bamabowhunter9846 Hey man! I was thinking about making some to sell, as well as some spliced rigging slings, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for the interest!
Awesome stuff guy but please TWO LINES don't want to see come down 2511 go through the steel cable 2
Very good point! I got rushed and sloppy on this one but have been rocking two lines (or three!) ever since. Thanks
That was a prime canidate for a zip line
oh so true, and I had Jim there to tension it! doh! should have done it :) next time (which is tomorrow)
@@metaspencer hey you got it done and all is well thats all that matters
Why didn't you move your truck and fall the last 30ft of it onto the road?
The lean got me second guessing it. Don't get me wrong: I like to fell a long boy as much as the next guy, but wedging against a strong lean can only do so much and I wasn't confident in the strength of a manual pull. So you know, there are lots of ways to do it and I went with a stubby :)
what harness are you running? and how much do you like it? im looking at the sequoia, treemotion, and the monkeybeaver
What ya gotta know about me is that I'm a real cheapskate: so I used an old rock climbing harness for way too long, then another one, then got a sweet deal on a very simple Notch saddle. Nothing fancy. Not a lot of room for accessories. But it works for me. It's this one: amzn.to/3iiSDSc ... Those MonkeyBeaver rigs are pretty sweet lookin'
@@metaspencer ive been looking at that one, one guy on treebuzz said he put it on and hung from the ceiling for about a minute and returned it, he never said why it sucked, do you notice anything? and how is the bridge on it?
@@WoodCutr1 It's a basic saddle. Someone who is used to a more gourmet saddle probably wouldn't like it as it's less adjustable, full of bells and whistles, etc. But it works for me and was CHEAP ! haha
@@metaspencer I think ill pick one up, and if I dont like it, I can sell it for what it cost me, my local agcentral/ace co-op sells weaver 4D harnesses, seems like they would have less movement for twisting at your hips, and running your climb line to your side for limb walking, but, I might try one on next time im in the store, just gonna have to see the pricing first
with all that one handing you might want to use a second tie-in on your way up. Doesn't take much more time and though the odds are low of cutting the lanyard on any particular tree, they add up cumulatively over the years. One small slip with that saw could be fatal. Happens in this biz. Your family loves and needs you! And nothing wrong with presetting a lowering line from the ground. Probably safer than putting a man on the roof in this scenario. and letting those limbs swing back into your saw while you are one handing ain't too cool.. don't mean to sound like a bitch, but you have to be smarter than that. I don't follow all the ANSI rules, but I know which rules can be broken based on skill, experience, and situation. With ALL THAT sloppy saw handling and rigging, you're much better off just following the two tie-in rule when using a saw aloft. Hopefully, you'll understand I AM providing these criticisms because I really care for you and your safety.
You are absolutely, 100% and completely correct. I was in a good habit of always running a secondary tie-in before doing this tree ... then got sloppy and cavalier. Since doing it I've had that second line in again and it's the way to go. Easy to do and a life saver. Big thanks man! You're the best
No way I can do that
ya never know!
