😮😮😮 I just realized where I'm struggling... you're right-handed! You hold the maul in your right hand! I've been holding the beveler in my dominant hand and my mallet in my other one. 🤦♀️
Got a couple of your freebees, thanks. Back for more when I'm practiced on these and I've picked up a few more tools. Really like the Celtic knots and a simple skull with a free tutorial would be cool.
I am an absolute beginner in leather work, and your beautiful work inspires me and makes me believe that one day I can do work approaching what you create. Thank you.
I have a petal lifter but don't care for the imprint it leaves. I watched your deep lifting video and liked the result. Got a couple of the Osborn lifters and use them exclusively. I go in at about 45 degrees and lift. Doesn't leave a mark on my background. And gives me complete control. Thank you kindly, Larry.
Really good, detailed instructional with explanations. Thanks so much for your help. I watch many leather workers that are really good, Joe Meling, Don Gonzales, Makers Leather, TH Leatherworking and others. It does not make any difference how many I listened to each one shows technique in tooling and there are specific little hints that each one makes that come from their learned experiences. All of these together help make each novice or hobbiest better. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! The guys you mentioned are exactly the ones the taught me (over UA-cam). I just put my own style on it. Really glad the videos are helpful. I love teaching this hobby!
You are welcome. You asked what we might like to see. If you like to teach, then teach. Do tutorials like this one. That is what got me to other leather craftsmen. Your added touches and techniques are what make each of your tutorials special and different from others. No one has seen it all and the craft keeps developing. An interesting topic might be to take one tool and show its multifunctionality. Like to book Al Stohlman wrote so many years ago.
@@jumpnjack8686 That's a great idea (multi- functionality) I'll definitely put that in the list. Suggestions like that are how I build my video idea list. Much appreciated.
Absolutely gorgeous ❣️ You used so many tools... A couple tools, I couldn't see how you used them... Why did you put something on the back of the leather? I need to find some leather to practice... I want to write my name and add some designs around it like yours... You did an awesome job... It's so beautiful ❤️
Thanks for taking the time and effort of sharing Your knowledge with Your fantastic videos. I have a suggestion/idea, You could possibly insert "straight on shots" with "before and after" the different "steps" that You demonstrate. To make possibly make it even easier to get a "full understanding" of how each of the steps "develop" the work towards the "finished product".... Just a thought. Best regards
Impressive work. The burnishing looks good and even without antique finish, it looks good enough. May I know where did you get this type of Hermann Oak leather ? I always have problem with burnishing depth. Not sure if it is the quality of leather I use or just the skill ?
Thank you! The quality of leather makes a huge difference. When I use economy gear leather from Tandy, I don't get nearly as much burnish. Moisture content is a big part of it too. I got that Herman Oak from Makers Leather Supply at the leather show in Waco TX.
@@TheLeatherverse Glad to hear that ! There's still hope for me then. Must try Hermann Oak ! If HO also no help, no doubt is my skill ! Thanks Master !
I use the tape typically used for marking electrical wires. I go hang out and tool with other craftsmen pretty frequently. Nice to be able to tell our tools apart
Have you ever tried using a guillotine type cutter to size a square or rectangle? 8 to 10 ounce leather. I normally use a carpenters square, bump stop and an Olfa utility knife. Always trying to find the perfect dimensions as in a perfect 45 degree angle. With wood or a stiffer medium it is easy. With leather I have a difficult time. Get very close but not absolute precision. Perhaps I am expecting too much. Always enjoy your content.
I've never tried that kind of a cutter, but I think it'd probably give you trouble. Leather is very forgiving when it comes to dimensions and precision. You can probably cut yourself a little slack on the perfection. 😉😁
I am trying to find a steep edge beveler like you start with. I am not finding anything with that name and my local Tandy store didn't have anything like what you showed. Can you suggest one to get?
I appreciate your videos and you do a good job of explaining your methods. I also like that you reference the tools you are using. However, as a beginning leather tooler, I can't bring myself to pay $35 to $40 per stamp for Barry King tools. I am sure they are well made, but I just can't justify the expense. I have a fair number of Craft Tool stamps at $7 each, and a few I have paid $14 for. Could you link to some tools that are more budget friendly? Thanks.
the swivel knife you using seem like little different. can tell me what kind? is it specially made? I do have a problem with my thump so have a hard time using a regular swivel knife. thank you.
Wasnt able to find it. Your website successfully loads, but there's no mention for a downloads page on the main home page. It also looks like the branded bison co link is also expired. Awesome video BTW!!
I would have liked to see more of the work not running through the closed captioning - center screen and I would love it if when you hold it up to show something you hold it for a few more seconds...thanks!
Any chance you could list the tool numbers your using in each video with your links? I’d like to step up into a Barry King beveler but am not sure what one your using… at that price I’d like to purchase one first that’s most versatile!

Did you know the finished product oiled, stained, antiqued was not in the video? I would like to see it.
@@jumpnjack8686 Yes! That's actually going to be an upcoming video where I airbrush/antique it. Thanks for the heads up though

Very well illustrated and explained. I've learned some new tooling methods here that I didn't know before. Thank you.
Thank you! Really glad it helped.
Looked back again to this one. On the background I agree on the tool. I like the ability to get into the sharp inside corners a bar grounder won’t.

There wasn't a link for the matting tool.
Where do you get your leather from?
Dan what is that paper you use to trace
It's just standard tracing paper. You can get it pretty much everywhere, but most leather shops carry it.
Thanks so much I am on my way you are amazing and what a talented man!

Links should be in the description. The XX steep bevel is the most versatile one that I've used and would point you to that one first.
I subscribed but there is no save button for this video, very strange because you said to save?
That is strange. Not sure why.
@@TheLeatherverse I just saved it, thank you. I may of had a bad internet connection that night.
What is the product number for the steep edge beveler? For example, a checkered beveler is a B197 stamp.
Or, sorry--checkered beveler is a B201 stamp.
The steep edge is by Barry King and doesn't have a number. However, there's a link in the description if you'd like one.

Yes sir. Dwayne Watts swivel knife. Fantastic tool.
How can I access the free pattern? The link doesn't have anything about downloads

Thanks! Good to know. I'll get them fixed asap. Wonder if the product isn't offered through that link anymore.
I wish if you could just put the pattern for easy download without having to put my billing address and stuff like that on your web-site
I agree, but Squarespace, who my website is through doesn't give that option for some reason. But I hope you enjoy the free pattern.
