I had multiple people asking to see the process behind taking on big projects. So, while I don't teach you how to do everything I show in the video, I hope this provides some insight into my process for attempting a big project like this. Tell me what you think....did you like this format? Should we do more like it?
Yes. This is exactly what I want to see more of. If I see another cowboy leather piece, it better be where the cowboy is being eaten by a dragon. Seriously, it is wonderful to see carving that is not in the western motif.
One Alabama boy transferred to another state to another, A big ROLL TIDE! shout out. That was a lot of work. Beautiful work , I’m impressed. Retired and been enjoying leather work for 12years. I am no where near the artist you are. I recently discovered you work through Weaver. Please keep up the great work!
Very nice work. Hopefully one day I will be at that level of skill. One thing you could add is a close up video of how you fixed the mistakes. I struggle with that sometimes, not knowing how to fix something. Thank for you videos.
I don’t even have words for how incredible/fierce/gorgeous/creative/powerful/(just keep inserting adjectives here) this is! I would have loved this broken into even more parts to see the various tools/techniques used in detail. This is precisely the kind of projects I love to see! What a masterpiece!
Thank you! 😊 In still learning what the subscribers would like to see, but I'll try to get more of that in the video in the future. Lots more projects like this coming!
man you make that look so easy, I've been thinking about getting me a leather tooling set for a long time but keep procrastinating, I used to airbrush and still have all of my equipment, I haven't drawn anything free hand in a long time but it looks like that's not a necessary skill to have for leather tooling. now I just have to convince the wife that the leather tools won't be sitting in a box like my airbrush is.
Thank you! Can I ask..is it the fantasy aspect (dragons, wizards, and such) that you like, or is it the fact that its "different" from what you see everywhere else? I'm trying to make sure I bring content that the subscribers are looking for.
@@TheLeatherverse the fact that is not western floral, and that it is well done. I would like to see yoda from starwars or Groot from guardians of the galaxy. Something different. I love leather work and think we could bring more people in the art if we can break free from the floral stereotype. Thank you for your contribution. P.s. I think flora is a great way to learn the basics but that it needs to lead to something more if it's going to have wider appeal
@@chrisnixon2179 I agree wholeheartedly! You gotta learn floral to learn the basics, but then where can we take it. I'll see what I can do about a Star Wars piece. Great suggestion
As usual, AMAZING! It was so nicely video those 8 day literally felt like I was watching it in seconds had to watch it several times fantastic thank you
This is absolutely amazing! Would love to see what tools you use to create the texture, backgrounding,... You really should turn these in paid masterclasses!

@@jeffallen3382 I try to put out one a week, but it usually ends up being one every two weeks. If you click the bell icon it'll tell you when we put one out
@@TheLeatherverse I have done that. I follow most all of the leather channels... sometimes UA-cam just doesn't notify even when rhe bell is set. It wouldn't be the first time it's happened.
I love your leather work .. im wondering if you could to a video on how you raised the leather to make it rounded and lifted it up to give it a more 3D look... Thanks Gary
Thank you! I'm still learning the best format for the videos, so that's great feedback. When you ask about shading the scales, which ones are you referring to? The chest or face?
@@TheLeatherverse thanks it really turned out nice. I’ve did some deer and coyotes but just brung out the key spots as good as I could with the beveler and spoon from the front , so so lol
If wood is dented, they can raise the dent with wet rags and hot irons. Steaming the dent. Do you think that might work for correcting mid-bevels as the left wing about 13:00 time stamp?
It's a good idea. My initial thought is that it probably wouldn't work just because of the amount of water put on the leather during tooling. It's possible that the water/heat combo might make the difference, but honestly (with this specific mistake) it was a pretty easy fix.
I have a few questions. How do you store your project over night and work on it the next day without losing all the moisture in the leather if you can't lay it aside on a flat surface? Can you roll it up and is there a special way?
In a large piece like this, especially during the winter when the air is so dry, I re-wet a lot. At first, I use a sponge to really case it thoroughly. After that, I do a surface case with a spray bottle to maintain the moisture.
The only way that you will ever truly know, is if you try. It's ok if what you are trying is a bit outside your current skill level. As a guitar player, I know this all too well. Keep practicing and you'll eventually get it. 🤘🤘😁
Out of context, I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you just asking, "wouldn't it be a problem to keep it cased"? If so, I just recase it as needed.

Just astounding work
Mind blowing, Love the feeling of completing a large project. Great skill here. Thanks
That is stunning!! Well done, we need more of this kind of leather tooling. Traditional is lovely, but it pales in comparison.
WOW. I love the embossing, can't wait for part 2, keep them coming.
Thank you! Next week we have an "off the wall project"... the following week I should have part 2 ready to go.
This was very cool to watch. I think more of the non traditional is what a lot of us are after.
It's coming. I've got nautical, medieval, restoration, armor, and apocalyptic projects coming. 😏
Incredible work! 😲🥰
I have definitely bevelled the wrong side as well haha you corrected it perfectly 🤘
Thank you! It's so easy to make a mistake on a large project like this. Frustrating too. I was very relieved to see the "fix" worked.
Just learning. I’m like a sponge right now. I love seeing everything. Thank you for your videos
Happy to do it. Let me know if there is anything you'd like to see covered

Can you recommend a good place to buy leather and a good tool kit to start out with.
