The polavaram spillway will have a discharge capacity of 50 lakh cusecs which will surpass that of the Three gorges dam, which is currently the world's biggest dam.

We have a long way to go. West has better technology than us. They can build such dams but they don't need now. But one thing is sure we are going on good trajectory. We should take care of internal conflicts like Maoists, Kashmir, North -South, Hindu-Muslim, inter caste & inter state like Karnataka- Tamilnadu,Assam- Mizoram conflicts etc ,last three not big but can turn bad.

The sheer size of everything in this project is just baffling - the material, resources, material, capacity, output,benefits, impacts, land size, height, depth and THE COST. "8 billion dollars" Holy COW. Hope both the centre and AP Government can put their differences aside , bear the cost collectively and complete this project on time. The infrastructure development is the need of the hour in India.

Mr Chandra Babu naidu paid special attention to fast track this dam. He used to review progress of work every Wednesday, using live videos of the project site. Hopefull present government is also fast tracking it.

The sad thing is that the current JMR govt in Andhra had delayed the funding for this massive project!!! They are not interested in it!! They had stopped funding for previous companies like "Navayuga" (opposite party nominated)and just left other subcontractors without even thinking about them. They changed the contract from Navayuga to MEIL bcoz they are more frndly with to the current govt.
Edit: I could see some idiots commenting without knowing the actual project history and how the government process the funds!!!
Center stopped the funding, they promised it during state division.

I never knew a project like this was happening. I have a question will this dam decreases the earth rotation speed even by trillionth of a sec like three gorges dam
The rotation of Earth won't be affected it's simply displacement.
If average elevation of water increases then earth's rotation will slow down
I have the same query......I think it would because it would change a substantial amount of center of mass by large distance.....hence changing moment of inertia and consequently rotational speed of earth.

All credit goes to great leader Chandrababu naidu(cbn).. Great leader with great mind.. I am not praising him but if someone rather than him would have Handled this project there will be a grahics instead of what we are seeing real constructions in images could not even imagine.. He kept 100 percent effort on this project to get it done but he is not able to comple during his period still he is having very good numbers 70 percent not a small thing irrespective of party I will support him for his hard work on this project.. Even though it is involved with politics he never considered it as a political strategy...if u see there are n number of time he went to delhi to ask for money some how he manged at his best nd got the money and built and we are seeing today is effort.. #Greatleadercbn
They thought of constructing this project nearly at the time of independence but due to political reasons it delayed many times they started construction OF THIS PROJECT in 2004 but still it not completed it was stopped many times.FINALLY NOW IT TOOK SOME SHAPE.

1 Lakh = 100,000 (Hundred Thousand)
TMC = Thousand Million Cubic Feet (which is 1 Billion Cubic Feet)

I've been listening of our Polavaram project since my childhood for more than 20 years, but it hasn't fructified yet.. God only knows how long more it takes..
Will this help clean up the Ganges river? I’m not being sarcastic. I hope and pray that the Indian government will fix that problem, because of the health issues associated with dirty water.
