Yanma is one of those Pokémon that they decided to make its learnset completely based on what it looks like it can do. Unfortunately for Yanma, very few moves existed at the time that it looked like that it could do. It's just a little bug with wings. They were so generous in crystal giving it wing attack, a move that birds with feathers usually use. Yanma has no feathers so it shouldn't be allowed to learn it!

Wing Attack has nothing to do with feathers. The animation for the tv series shows it as a slashing move with its wings. Yanma would be very capable of that.

Disagreed on whether bug is a the worst offensive type. Mostly because it hits some crucial types even if it has poor overall coverage. However at this point I AM uncertain which is. Previously it pretty much was either poison or steel imo. Probably steel. After they got bumped with fairy rebalance I think grass is the best contender for the worst on the list. It is crucial for covering water (one of the best types) but electric does it better due to just having less problems save the few water/ground types in the game, which is the only real offensive niche grass has. Regarding the squirt bottle sisters, since they have a flower shop you can just call the older one the Flower Lady and the younger would be the Flower Sister. Aipom sounds interesting, as it has similar stats to Yanma but a way better learnset. Also, looking forward to the three way. It's kind of fitting that the first one of those is with the starters. Great job on the Yanma run, maybe one day you can revisit it on a VS run against Ledyan or Ariados for a placement with HP Ice. Maybe another threeway for the forgotten bugs of gen 2? In any case, stellar job on this one, especially without double team, to have Yanma end up above Steelix despite the resets.

Hey Scott, I just wanted you to know that you are doing a great job. I am aware of the amount of work you have devoted to this project, from your first run till now your content has evolved but kept it's "simplicity" and charm that is unique to you. Great job man, love watching your content.
Just in case anyone was wondering, Yanma and Yanmega aren't dragon types because "dragonfly" is a european name for them. Dragonflies have a lot of cultural importance, especially in ancient japan, which is why it's in Johto. Yanma's kind of just a fancy dex filler, but it's a dragonfly wearing pilot goggles. What more could you want!

Also, thank you for playing the Rival Silver battle theme in Mono sound in the video whenever his fight happens. It's my favourite song in the Pokémon franchise. He is also my favourite Pokémon character and has my favourite character arc and story in the series to. 🦔👍
Yanama was one of those mons I slept on in gen 2... But when they went back and gave it an evolution... It was actually descent. But then again in gen 2 most bugs suck aside from Heracross.
i think having the music in stereo works better as people with single channels (like myself up until recently!) can set their audio to mono on their end but stereo watchers can't reenable stereo to a mono song. love these vids, they're my bedtime vids ^-^

Very cool video as always! I realize you put the held item restriction because this gen is pretty easy (if you aren't a yanma), but I think for future gens, held items could be pretty fun. In my opinion, any mechanic that lets you apply more strategy to the game rather than brainless grinding will make the videos more fun to watch and less annoying for you to do. Maybe banning leftovers might help avoid it from becoming the next double team as well! Also idk if you've seen Imported Cheese's tier list of gen 2 pokemon but it feels very relevant to your style of run, if you ever need a preview of what each run might look like.
WOW!!! This guy is great at the game. He really has a good thought process around the game and he puts together really intelligently done videos. The data and the methodology and stuff is rigorous and we trust his results.
Well if you want to grind rare candies in gen 2 there is always the option of giving Shuckle a berry. In case you didn't know, if you have a shuckle in your party and its holding a berry, there is a 1/16 chance it will turn to berry juice after any fight. If shuckle is holding a berry juice, then after a fight it has a 1/256 chance of turning into rare candy. So in theory it COULD take you only 2 fights to get one, but on average it would take 4096 battles. So twice as likely as a shiny. IF you have shuckle in your party. But it is a legit grinding option, a lvl 2 hoot hoot is as much a battle as Red is.. I've seen posts on Reddit saying its all hearsay and although I do not have any proof from my playthrough in 2001, I solemnly swear it happened to me on my first Gold playthrough. Traded 'Shuckie" starts with a berry equipped, and when I wanted to deposit it in the PC I for the life of me could not understand why it was holding a rare candy. Anyways terrible idea, fun anecdote. I enjoyed the run, interesting to see that indeed Steelix was the wall you feared. Also please don't Return sweep the game with Aipom. He can learn the elemental punches, headbutt or strength is a strong enough normal move, maybe for Red I can understand it. Otherwise STAB Return on a 70 attack fast pokemon will be a complete sweep.
I have never heard the term dragon bug in my life. Im North American and we call them dragonflies. I know it seems small, but food job using mono audio. There is little ppint for stereo on a youtube video. Saves on data too. As you make more and more videos, this adds up.
I had an idea for a potentially interesting versus... though it's kind of like comparing apples to oranges. See how each pseudo-legendary does with its own generation. Dragonite for gen 1, Tyranitar gen 2, Metagross and Salamence for gen 3, etc. Like I said, wouldn't be quite as comparable to your current versus videos, but could be interesting nonetheless.

No Venomoth? You get it near Goldenrod and it's a Bug Dragon
@@priestesslucy No, you fool. It’s Poison Psychic 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ it does get the Dragon typing in Gen V though, which is weird
Was writing that i really appreciate the "more soundtrack" approach just before you said to let you know. So... Nice!
Big congratulations on achieving your first 151 patreon! I remember when you didn’t have any and now you are already this far! It is well deserved! As always I listen to your videos while I walk my dog, I love the puns you make! Looking forward for aipom, the threeway and whatever comes next! I will here listening to every single video you upload! You rock Scott!!
You rock too ThibsyCube!
Your enthusiasm in this one is really infectious. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
8:23 That Marill used defense curl the previous turns, which boosts the power of Rollout the next turn. That added damage almost claimed your bug's life!
I loved the drama of this episode! Realizing you should have made hidden power a different type was actually scary, lol! I was fully expecting you to restart
Like a wise man said a while ago, "Yanma had quite a notable niche in Ubers, where its hability to beat Lugia was as excellent as the price on this bridge I'd like to sell you. In conclusion gen 2 Yanma was dreadful and vensome"
I love the commentary in your videos. Keeps me coming back every time
Hey Scott,
I just wanted you to know that you are doing a great job. I am aware of the amount of work you have devoted to this project, from your first run till now your content has evolved but kept it's "simplicity" and charm that is unique to you. Great job man, love watching your content.
The mono change was great Scott! I usually have one earbud in while I do work around the house so its nice to actually get the music!
Was almost scared to see how much grinding had to be done to pass some of those road blocks. You have the patience of the pokegods.
My 8 year old found your videos a. Couple weeks back and we’re nearly binged pretty much all of your uploads at this point :) your content is amazing and your commentary is great. Keep up the amazing work and we’ll be here giving that watch time support! Since both my kids are addicted to your videos as am I haha.
Glad you and your kids are enjoying the content!
Man I didn't know much about Yanma in Gold and Silver since I never used it. Wow it got no bug or flying moves. Damn, it reminds me of how in Red and Green, Charizard couldn't learn Fly for whatever reason ha ha.
Every time I see that Chimecho, it makes me wonder if it might be one of the first Gen 3 playthroughs. Would love to see how you handle it!
It feels like you had a lot of fun doing this video and it really shows, it was refreshing to watch!!
I did have a lot of fun :)
A Scott's Thoughts video on my birthday what a present! and on one of my favorite bug Pokémon no less, fate was kind today :)
Happy birthday Alex! I hope you have a great one.
i think having the music in stereo works better as people with single channels (like myself up until recently!) can set their audio to mono on their end but stereo watchers can't reenable stereo to a mono song. love these vids, they're my bedtime vids ^-^
Good video Scott! I literally can’t imagine the grind that went into this video. You should do a Sudowoodo only run!
I should! I'll put it on the list.
Another great video I really enjoy the continent and look forward to all the future content keep up the great work Scott.
Venomoth is unironically my favorite poison type. Glad to see it become both a trope and mascot. Great content as always.
Your videos are great the way you leave bloopers in the middle of the videos is great and makes it pretty funny. Too many people edit so that they look perfect, and not like actual people. Keep up the videos Scott they're great! 👍
I've watched a lot of your videos recently and in this one you can hear how much of a toll the grinding is taking on you. It's really funny. I recently lost a nuzlocke to bugsy and then the second attempt all the way to Claire. Yup. I feel the frustration with you
loved this video so much, you had such a chill tone through it and it really boosted it up
thank you for all your amazing content. I love listening to your elaborate planning to overcome each challenge
Here's some good news to cheer you up after this difficult run: On the 3rd, l completed the Regional Kanto Dex in FireRed. Tomorrow, l'll do the final few trades, captures, and evolving to also have a Living Dex of it. UPDATE: I just got it! 5 boxes, 150 Mons, in numerical order! It's beautiful.
I like how often you laughed in this video. Really made it seem like you were having fun which is good considering the brick (and electric, flying, rock, steel, fire and ice) walls you ran into
I absolutely love yanma despite how rubbish it is in gen 2, so thank you for doing this run what a great watch!
Also just want to say I think I speak for all your subscribers when I say I can sort of tell your really getting into the groove of narrating/ scripting for your runs, you sound so comfortable now its great to see how your really coming into your own with your content!
Keep it up bud
Considering the amount of resets Yanma clocked in earlier than I expected it to. Great video, looking forward to the next one.
PS: Please redo Butterfree in this gen so you can fix its F tier status.
Wow yanma was really that big of a challenge! Had to smash everyone with overleveling, I think that was the hardest challenge so far, Scott! Amazing job!
Yanma did his best
I love how you can hear how much fun Scott has during these vids 🙏🔥👌 so much fun to watch.
Awesome content Scott!!
You're the best Magneton around for sure Scott.
Another lovely video, keep up the great work!
how it can't be forgotten, only 1% chance of finding in grass... I was very astonished when encounter yanma first time (on gameboy in no internet times)
Awesome to see yanma in the b tier list. Am glad yanma made it there. This made me smile since I remember when I used to play crystal I tried to come up with the best move set and raise it's stats using protein and other items. Thank you for uploading this. Just subscribed to your channel
Pretty decent run video! Thanks for uploading!
Watching Scott videos before bed is becoming the best part of my night time routine can't get enough of these
Loving your video style! Been watching since before your 1st chansey run
WOW!!! This guy is great at the game. He really has a good thought process around the game and he puts together really intelligently done videos. The data and the methodology and stuff is rigorous and we trust his results.
Congratulations on 151 Patrons, looking forward to seeing you get 100 more! 🤑
TBH the gen 2 runs are much less captivating to me than the gen 1 runs. I still watch'em though 😜
I have never heard the term dragon bug in my life. Im North American and we call them dragonflies. Im not trying to make fun of anyone, i just wanted to point out how funny it was to me when you named it dragonfly. Thank you so much for the videos you make. They have been keeping me sane while i lay in the hospital.
Bro that clone glitch was my life when I was 8 year old. I love that you mentioned that during the jasmine grind
Good to see my favorite Pokemon's Pre-evo getting some time in the spotlight. The little dagron did its best! Great video, Scott!
I'd love to see how Yanma's mileage improves when it gets access to its evolution Yanmega (yay Yanmega!). Yanmega gets some solid stats, and I'm totally not biased in any way!
I'm pretty pumped to try Yanmega out in the future!
Past Scott, congrats on 23k subs! Just getting up to date with your videos :) This yanma was for dure a pain! But It was so impressive yo see how he put himself together at the end with Red! I Hope the next one comes out easier, though...
You can hear yourself getting more confident with it all in this video ! Top work keep it up !
amazing video again, the steelix was a nightmare! I absolutly enjoy your content and love to see how you improve from video to video ;) Your skript and layout is great :) Keep up the good work Scott, cant wait for your next videos :D
This will be interesting! Keep it up Scott!
This Channel is like 10x better then mahdrybread. His "challenges" aren't even challenges. I really enjoy your content man :)
Started watching about 13 weeks ago when I was stuck in the hospital for 4 days when my son was born. Now I cant get enough.
Congradulations James! Glad I provided some entertaining during your hospital stay.
“The milk drinking cheese making rollout machine is up next” for miltank is an epic description!! Please use it every time 😂
I love how happy you are in your videos. Totally different when I first saw your butterfree video. Keep it up man.
Back then the microphone was scary :P
Gosh this could be the hardest (johto) challenge yet. I'm looking forward to it. I have tried to make sure to use every single one of the first 251 in my many gen 1 and 2 playthroughs but yanma has not been used yet. Seems awesome though and good luck!
Also I call em dragonfly so that's fitting
I know it seems small, but food job using mono audio. There is little ppint for stereo on a youtube video. Saves on data too. As you make more and more videos, this adds up.
I had an idea for a potentially interesting versus... though it's kind of like comparing apples to oranges. See how each pseudo-legendary does with its own generation. Dragonite for gen 1, Tyranitar gen 2, Metagross and Salamence for gen 3, etc. Like I said, wouldn't be quite as comparable to your current versus videos, but could be interesting nonetheless.
At the beginning I would say let’s yanma go into this challenge
