It feels like around the 2:30 mark Scott merged two thoughts together where he says he’ll need to do a lot of training for Bugsy because of his Pidgeotto which had my brain confused for a moment. Man what a fight that would be Bugsy with Scyther and Pigeotto
I don't often comment. I just wanted to let you know I appreciate the work you put into these videos. I find myself paying way too much attention to your layouts, lol.

Something familiar and at the same time so novel is one of the reasons I've used you as sleep aid dozens of times too. Again, thank you for your thoughs, Scoot. Godspeed, you truly deserve the best of all.
Finally Pineco run been waiting for this so long! One of my top 3 favourite of all time! He is always with me trough all games since gen 2 where he can get caught! Amazing thanks man!!!
In regards to Bugsy's team, I actually had a different idea. Ledian, Ariados, and Scizor. -Ledian and Ariados are the early regional bugs, so seeing what they're capable of makes more sense than the cocoons. - Scizor's there both to show off a new evo of an old mon, show off Steel-type shortly after providing a hard counter (growlithe), and -- most importantly -- because I needed to put Heracross on Bruno's team to properly distribute pokemon among boss trainers, even after changing Chuck to a ground-type specialist and retyping a few mons to part fighting-type.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I had originally thought the same thing, though I'd add Skarmory to Jasmine's team. I wasn't until I started working out the logic of trying to prevent any gym leader/e4 member from having duplicates and avoiding overlap between them that I moved Heracross to Bruno and Scizor to Bugsy.
@@vizzy61 Maybe, but two of them are amongst the worst bug-types ever, and the 3rd has the same BST as Scyther, and you just got access to a fire-type north of Violet City to wreck it. So it's stronger than the original team, but you have the tools needed to beat it in a normal playthrough.
I love this little Pinecone. Pineco and Forretress are a very underrated evolution line and Forretress was MVP in my Sacred Gold Nuzlocke. At least it gets some love in the tv show. Thank you for doing this.
I was about to comment that Pineco was among the most underused Pokémon ever. Imagine my surprise when Brock's Forretress used to be a Pineco! I thought he just appeared with it with no on-screen capture in Hoenn. He did it with Zubat. (In my defense, I just learned that thanks to a bad deal, most of Johto wasn't dubbed in my language, so that part is completely new to me. Only 12 episodes of 64 got dubbed, and l never saw them on TV.)
Scott, you just rock. I love your care and meaning behind all your choices for metrics and whatnot. Such a satisfying series to watch with all this consistency with the variables. Love love your content!
Finally catching up on these. These have always been some of my favorite content to watch, as I love the details and just getting an idea of how good a mon is.
22:55 that was a funny interaction with the one-turn sleep and the speed tie. It outsped and put you to sleep, but then you woke up right away and moved first on the next turn, so it almost looked like you got a Gen 1 zero-turn sleep. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
I'm surprised you didn't go straight for the Defense Curl/Rollout combo after beating Morty (since the TM for Defense Curl is in Mt. Mortar and needs Surf to access). It is absurdly powerful in Gen 2, and given Pineco's very sad movepool, that was what immediately came to mind. It probably would have saved you quite a bit of grief. I was always intrigued by the Defense Curl/Rollout combo because the game doesn't tell you about the combo and they are both TM moves. As it turns out, Pokemon Stadium 2 tells you explicitly in Earl's Academy that the combo exists, and that was the only way you could learn about it back in the days of limited internet. It was like one of those hidden easter eggs that felt so special to discover and was the talk of the school playground at recess. Keep up the good work Scott! I love your runs with the dynamic overlays you have, and you have quickly become one of my favorite UA-camrs for Pokemon solo runs alongside Jrose and Mah Dry Bread.
To obtain the Defense Curl TM you need Waterfall. (So it's a post-Clair item) bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mt._Mortar#Items The more I work with this combo the less and less I like it. Requires 1 turn of setup and then you're locked into a move which might not be the type effectiveness you want. It is also inaccurate and missing at the critical moment feels really bad.
Great video! Pineco is the definition of a one trick pony that demonstrates the best and worst of Gen 2 design. It was ostensibly designed to Spike+Spin+Explode and tank hits which is odd for a Bug type given how many weaknesses it has. In competitive it works extremely well, but not for a solo playthrough. The Pineco line is designed to be a disruptor and wall that helps put your whole team in a more healthy position, and for that reason it doesn't function well by itself. It's move pool is likely a victim of GF's view that either Gen 2 or 3 would be their last Pokémon game and they just needed to get it out, and that's why Pineco, Yanma, Phanpy, Teddiursa, etc. all have extremely similar move pools and they didn't add stronger bug moves or give diverse learnsets. It's much better in Gen 4 with Bug Bite and is actually quite fun to play with.
It's so true that this thing was designed for Spike+Spin+Protect+Explode. So obviously it's going to perform pretty poorly in this format. I need to remember to find a place to mention that sort of context when playing with defensive mons. Thanks for the comment.
Best of luck with your voice, Scott. Glad to hear you're seeing a specialist. It's seriously impressive what the experts can do to rescue a voice and help prevent further issues. Luckily, there's lots of precedent for preventing injury in people who use their voice for a living. Hope it goes well!
I don't know why I feel good seeing Pineco. I've used one before and I don't particularly love using it. But it gives me genuine happiness when I see its gen 2 sprite. I think its because the house I grew up in the trees in the forest around me had pinecones that were very pronounced in the way his design is. So it almost reminds me a bit of my childhood home!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon That was me when I did my Dunsparce one off. It's probably that "the little engine that could" mentality we adore as a story as people.
Wow, you did some amazing job with Pineco, with such dedication and passion, even though that pokemon took a lot of effort to cut about a third of its real time. 👏👏👏👏Go, Scott!! That playthough has reminded me about one of my first playthoughs in crystal, in which I was trying to complete the pokedex, and catching Pineco was a mess as it was a 5% encounter in a tree after using headbutt, then sometimes whenever I got it, it would have used self-destruct, I had to do that all over again. So I kind felt for you whenever you had grind for so long, so I hope that little story can cheer you up.😁 And by the way, you can make rollout's power a bit more powerful with tm 40,defence curl, you can obtain it in mt mortar, but only after you'd gain waterfall, and besides there are some extra trainers you can train against for extra stat experience, if you'd ever need that. 😊I'm not sure if that could have made a huge difference to Pineco's performance, but maybe that could help you out in some future runs at some point. 😁 And also, I hope that you could feel better with your voice, it sounds like pretty serious problem. So please take care of yourself, and rest as much as you need, and I hope that your voice will be well again. And I super appreciate even more, right now, how much work is being put into making these videos weekly. Scott, you're amazing, don't ever forget that. Thanks for not giving up. 🙏☺️
Scott, the reason why Quilava doesn't evolve for the Underground Rival fight at 19:20 is because Quilava evolves at level 36. They did a weird Cyndaquil evolves extra early (14) and Quilava evolves extra late (36) thing, and did the opposite for Totodile, who evolves into Croconaw at 18 and Feraligatr at 30. Chickorita evolves at Bayleaf at 16 and Meganium at 32 - the "average" of the two.
Lovely content as always! Thanks, Scott! I'll make sure to show some love monetarily when my situation gets a bit better lol I know these are time-consuming and everyone's gotta eat right? Until then, I send ya my deepest appreciations and thanks! Gen II has been my favourite from when I first played it to this day(even more so with Crystal; I wish the international releases had an equivalent to the cellphone shenanigans though: it might not seem like a lot, but that's kinda what makes Crystal's plot a bit different with the focus on the unown andt the "waves" that woke them up...Yah it was too ambitious for the time but added a lot to the game IMHO ofc), especially for re-plays/"time-killer" playthroughs! Cheers and keep it up!
I did a pineco only run of the game back when I was a teenager (14 years ago 💀) and I could NOT beat Red until level 100 and even then it took hours of trying so kudos to you on getting through it. Loved the video as always
Hi Scott, I hope you'll find out what ails you at the doctor's appointment next week. Not knowing can be very stressful. Get well soon! And thanks for this run. Pinecone is a cute Pokémon that I wish was stronger.
The sad thing about gen 2 is having 2 fighting type specialists, chuck and the hiker. (Also 2 psychic and 2 poison, even though koga is kinda bug too) They could have gone with a ground member since blue has a mix of types so the type is completely missing as a gym/elite 4 member
Fun fact about Jasmine's Steelix: in Gen2 a Pokémon is male if it's Atk DV/15 is > the female gender ratio. Gender ratio for most is 50% female, but starters are 13% female, and clef airy is 75% female. Her team has Atk DV of 9, and steelix is 50% female. Other notables: Whitney has 8 Atk DV, which should give her male Pokémon, but both of her members are >50% female. Clair has 7; Rival 1 has 13 (Rival 2 has 9, which means that if the rival had a 75% female like vulpix or jigglypuff, its gender would switch); Janine 9, maybe bc she takes over her dads team.
I always really liked pineco and Foretress... but never knew where to find them as a kid. So I've never had an opportunity to play with the cute little hand grenade.
Maybe too late based on the release date of this video, but as a musician/vocalist suffering through some vocal concerns of late, I have two recommendations (I'll bet one of them was resolved by meeting the specialist). First is to check for vocal nodules, that would require a scope from an ENT and sounds akin to what I experience on certain pitches, the vocal fatigue... Secondly, I recommend looking into the Estill Vocal Method. Currently in training myself, but as something so focused on anatomical process in using your voice, it's incredibly enlightening how to potentially alter your patterns to alleviate tension in the voice. Here's to hoping that you find (or found!) answers and can still operate the way you want to!
In an alternate universe, one without Prof. Elm researching evolution to give you an everstone to suppress evolution, Prof. Scott researches PP and gives you the PP pill to prevent PP from being restored after a heal.
Scott, sorry to hear about your health concerns. I’ve had similar issues, although I’ve never gotten it checked out. I’ll start the day out fine, but as the day goes on talking to customers my voice will start to get thinner and thinner. Hopefully you get it sorted out and get back to 100%!
I always took the same route you did in Whitney's gym, though I made sure to fight every trainer there. That's just something I like to do in all the Pokémon games I play, though I'm a casual player so it's more of a completion thing than anything a challenge might require. Also, her gym is pretty great when you can see it from above. It has a Clefairy outline. =3
Aw man. I haven't gotten around to watching your vids lately so I was not aware of your health issues. I'm so sorry and hope the appointment went well! And it's something you can battle. Will go through the rest of your vids and hope to hear positive news in the newer uploads. All fingers crossed.!
I really hope your voice recovers and you feel better. Honestly the videos can even wait, it's not worth the fact that it's interfering with your personal life. Please take it easy!
Hi Scott, was just watching your video (great stuff!). I’m a speech language pathologist and-if you haven’t already-ensure you see an ENT who is well versed in voice disorders. After you get your vocal cords looked at, they’ll recommend you see an SLP trained in voice therapy. I see recommendations for a voice teacher which is fine for healthy voices but with your symptoms you’re going to want actual therapy after they look for any physiological issues. Therapy will help you as a vocal athlete-we don’t run when we strain our ankle, and we don’t run without stretching. It’s a similar deal with your voice and it’s important to see what’s causing you this fatigue and strain. That’s what the ENT and then SLP will do, it’s like Physical Therapy but for your voice. Best wishes!
Why are there over 800 people watching and enjoying content this man spent time to create and entertain us with and not even 100 can click the like button :(
I appreciate your honesty on your voice issues. Get well soon! If we miss a few weeks/months I'll gladly give that up for years of your content in the future.
ROCK SMASH This was phenomenal. ROCK SMASH Thank you so much for recording this despite the pain. ROCK SMASH I have an idea for you for future first play through attempts. ROCK SMASH would be a possibility to chip down the defense on the iron snake. It's far inferior to hidden power, of course, but it would be stronger than headbutt against the magnets early and could chip away at defensive walls midgame. ROCK SMASH Also, you're the best.
Pineco is probably my favorite gen two PKMN! I'm playing Silver for the first time, so I should probably be taking notes considering that I enjoy using PKMN sub optimally while refusing to over level👀
I dont care if hes good or not. Pineco design is so cool. Such a lovely defensive piece of a bug cone. Game freak shouldve just given him a strong bug move. Scott, be well and dont push yourself too much on making a lot of videos. Your fans support you.
I like the idea of allowing Pineco and Foretress to use Self Destruct and Explosion. I understand that this makes the Pokémon faint, however, you can only use it once per battle and when you do you’re going to have to go back to a Poke Center or use a revival item which will cost either time or money. I’d like to see if this gives Pineco the opportunity at a better time, perhaps you could run a poll for this.
Oh man. I hope you feel better Scott. That's scary. If you have to skip next week's video it's totally understandable. Yeah gen 2 really did have janky movesets. Bugs really suffered because at this point, there weren't many good Bug moves. Come to think of it, not many Bug moves make much sense for Pineco. But that rival 2 split was painfullllll (entertaining to watch though ngl).
So I asked my friend to name a gen 2 type(A type that existed in gen 2), and he said Steel. Of course he did. So me being me, I started a mono steel run of crystal. I had to beat up to Ilex with only an onix(Never do that by the way, it was complete hell), and then I got pineco. Currently I'm grinding up for whitney, but I gotta say, thanks for giving my splodey pinecone some love! Keep up the good work Scott!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Combine that with the fact that it's traded and that I had to grind up to 14, and deal with sand attack, made the fight take about 4 real life hours.
My man! I wasn't sure if it would be a success but it was! Honestly, you gotta take care of yourself so if you need a couple weeks to recover we will still be here. Take care of yourself, trust me we all appreciate your hard work. Just a suggestion maybe anything that performs at F or Bruno tier in the initial playthrough can get a single egg move for the optimized run (Yes it would be a bit unfair but... they did so bad).
"A serpent guard, a Horus guard and a Setesh guard meet on a neutral planet. It is a tense moment. The serpent guard's eyes glow. The Horus guard's beak glistens. The Setesh guard's nose drips." - Teal'c Stargate SG-1
I just got an idea for a gym leader who would have a gym based around forest and grass, everything about his appearance and trainers implying him to be Grass type gym leader, and then His team consists of some combination of Pineco, the Floette line, and his ace Sudowoodo.
You've inspired me to do a gen 2 crystal run. I decided to run a solo hoothoot, and named him Dr. Who 😂. I wont lie, it's been super painful. Hoothoot doesn't learn peck until lvl 11 and was unable to beat the 1st gym without it. After the 1st gym you get mudslap which hoothoot can learn. It can also learn return which I imagine will be it's bread and butter damaging move but we will see! I have not hit the 2nd gym yet so there's plenty of time to experiment and see what's best!
In my first play through of Ultra Sun, my team was not very fast and not very Specially bulky which wasn’t a huge problem until I got to the Ultra Necrozma that OHKO’d my entire team with only my Carracosta’s Aqua Jet doing damage. Instead of grinding, I caught a Pineco, bred a level 1 Pineco, gave it Pain split from the move tutor, and pain splitted until Pineco fainted which meant that the Ultra Necrozma had basically no health left and an Aqua Jet from Carracosta finished it. Some Pokémon are stars, and some are team players and Pineco is a great team player
I know this video is nine months old as of this comment, and I haven't heard you mention it recently, sincerely hope the Canadian healthcare system takes care of you, and you get the care and RnR you need. Thank you for these series!~ I've loved learning along side you
I don't know if you're gonna do more runs with very defensive mons, but you can try protecting every other turn during the Jasmine fight with Steelix. Between the organic misses and the protect, it should run out of iron tail pretty fast. Might make it less, err, "vexing" :) As always, fantastic video and thank you for all your hard work!
At Whitney I still always take and also always took the upper path (same as yours) since first time playing as a kid :D something like 23 years ago... man, good old times and memories.
Hey Scott! Another great video! This run was truly insane, Pineco is just... so bad, wow. I wonder how many Pokemon will be worse than it, but I suspect most of them will be Bug types. And Magikarp. Anyway to answer your question, in Whitney's gym I always took the exact same route as you do. I always try to defeat every trainer in the game and the upper route does have an extra one, which is why I always took it instead of the lower route. I truly hope that your health problems will get better. Don't force yourself, take all the time to rest and heal up that you need. We're not going anywhere. Cheers!
Trying to relax the voice. Also got a few comments about me speaking too fast. For awhile I was getting the, "You talk so slow" comments, so I tried to push myself to get faster. Now it's time to balance out. Glad you like it!
Pineco is just a little guy, I love how dumb it is probably cause of when you get self destruct, in a playthrough if you get it as you watch him, especially if you get in a nuzlocke and catch and as a last resort for explosion but it’s always a “I’m sorry little one” situation
The algorithm is a dark and complex force, when mastered. One might ride beyond their average, becoming something greater, a comment. Let the algorithm flow through you!
If you haven't done it already you might consider some voice lessons. It might be able to help you prevent some damage (or whatever the issue may be) so you can continue doing this without hurting yourself. Just remember, as nice as this job might be, it's not worth your health. I appreciate your the time and effort you put into these and I hope you feel better.
I'm branching out into Crystal to give advice. Hopefully I can still provide constructive and useful information despite this not being my generation of expertise. I think you made a critical mistake with your moveset early in the run. Steelix would have been so much easier had you chosen to keep Bide over Take Down, which you never used. You could still use Return against the Magnemite, but Jasmine's Steelix will deal considerable damage to you through Iron Tail, which you can then pay back double afterwards. I think the key to this run is avoiding the type chart. Pineco is mostly using normal type moves because that's the bulk of what it gets, meaning types that normal isn't good into are going to be your biggest hurdles unless you're facing down something with oneshot potential. Bide allows you to circumvent the type chart and give you a way around your lack of type coverage. On Take Down and Double Edge... I disagree with your assessment, kinda. Your logic checks out and I'm inclined to agree, however, I think I can provide an additional angle of analysis. As a competitive player, I learned to look at moves and understand battles in a specific way. Recoil moves like these are often favored because you take *less* damage if you use them, in theory. Let's say you're using Headbutt on something and it does 85% and is always a 2HKO. You take a hit for 40% of your HP and are slower, so you take 80% over two turns and knock out your opponent. However, if you click Double Edge, it's a 1HKO. In this case, you get outsped, take 40%, then oneshot and take an additional 25% from your recoil. You actually ended that exchange a turn earlier, used less PP and ended the battle with an additional 15% HP. Competitive players think about these moves in this way. "I actually end up taking less damage from my own Flare Blitz if I oneshot than if I used Fire Punch twice".
Emerald Comment Guy! Thanks for the comments btw, I always feel like I learn something or get a slightly different perspective. Regarding Bide - you're right. I definitely should have kept it longer. I love this way of thinking about recoil moves. I'm going to try to internalize that and use it when doing analysis after the first playthrough. Thinking about damage ranges from that perspective will probably improve my consistency a lot.
Dang man, take care of yourself and don't worry about the exclusive content. I can't speak for all of the new members, but a lot of us were supporters for a long time with no additional benefits, and I would be still be a supporter without any additional benefits even now.
Hey Scott, I used to do a lot of singing as a vocal performance major, and voice strain is a very real problem. I highly recommend taking a few days to stay quiet and rest your voice. Hope it gets better!
For your voice I reccomend a mix of carrot juice with lemon, ginger and turmeric in it. Does me wonders everytime I need something soothing for my throat.
15:47 I usually go your same route because Sentret is much less of a menace than Meowth and because it feels more natural to first go up, while the other way feels like the path you take to exit the Gym.
This was a great run! I’m praying for you and your health Scott! I’m not sure if you’ve been doing so already, but tea with honey help tremendously with your vocal cords.
Damn that rival section was brutal. Sometimes the shenanigans you have to pull off to progress remind me of the softlockpicking videos from pikasprey, although this one was not as bad.
Predictions/Results: Predicting Unoptimized Completion Time - 2:15:00 Good lord, this is sad to watch. Poor Pineco. Over two and a half hours just to beat the Johto portion of the challenge. Initial Prediction for Optimized Completion Time - 1:58:55 After what happened in the unoptimized run, I had no confidence this initial prediction for the optimized run would be remotely possible so I've decided to do a second prediction for the optimized completion time. New Prediction for Optimized Completion Time - 2:40:00 It did a little worse than my new prediction, but considering you improved it by an entire hour that's really quite the impressive optimization. The Bruno tier is well deserved, but those results for Pineco make me wanna give it lots of treats and praise it for doing so well despite turning in the worst results yet.
Oh, i saw Sol in the Chat and my message was too late to be send, so this one is for her: I still remember the times where he mentioned you in pretty much every Video, which was just adorable. So i just wanna say one thing: Thanks for helping Scott be the way he is, by being the way you are
I think you're confusing Sol (Sarina) with my fiancée. They are different people. I've never actually named my fiancée on the channel which is probably why a lot of people make this mix up.
I always loved Pineco and forretress, I remember using one years ago when i was a kid, would definitely be fun to try and use it again either in this game or in one of the newer ones. It's just a fun pokemon
I’m using a Foretress on my Scarlet play through and having quite strong stab moves in bug bite and smart strike feels so good. As much as I love this evolution line, it felt like dead weight in crystal, now it can finally utilise the great dual typing it has and actually do damage
That's a super dry movepool and also bad stats ! Well, he still has the gen2 basics, headbutt, def curl/rollout and curse/rest/sleeptalk/return. Kinda happy to see that Bruno isn't alone down there anymore
It feels like around the 2:30 mark Scott merged two thoughts together where he says he’ll need to do a lot of training for Bugsy because of his Pidgeotto which had my brain confused for a moment. Man what a fight that would be Bugsy with Scyther and Pigeotto

But I’m so hooked. Keep it up!
Finally catching up on these. These have always been some of my favorite content to watch, as I love the details and just getting an idea of how good a mon is.
Glad you like them!
(So it's a post-Clair item) bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mt._Mortar#Items
The more I work with this combo the less and less I like it. Requires 1 turn of setup and then you're locked into a move which might not be the type effectiveness you want. It is also inaccurate and missing at the critical moment feels really bad.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon You're right! I totally forgot that you needed Waterfall to get the Defense Curl TM.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Really sorry to hear about your health problems. Hopefully it'll fix itself with some rest and you'll be feeling better soon.
You know, I do enjoy your content, but that thesaurus suggestion is a great one. Thank you for being a good sport about it!
Best of luck with your voice, Scott. Glad to hear you're seeing a specialist. It's seriously impressive what the experts can do to rescue a voice and help prevent further issues. Luckily, there's lots of precedent for preventing injury in people who use their voice for a living. Hope it goes well!
Hi Scott, I really appreciate your content and hope you feel better soon!
Thanks Tanner!
That’s awesome. Pineco makes me happy too. I dunno why but I was really excited to do this playthrough, even though I knew it would be brutal.
So I kind felt for you whenever you had grind for so long, so I hope that little story can cheer you up.😁
And by the way, you can make rollout's power a bit more powerful with tm 40,defence curl, you can obtain it in mt mortar, but only after you'd gain waterfall, and besides there are some extra trainers you can train against for extra stat experience, if you'd ever need that. 😊I'm not sure if that could have made a huge difference to Pineco's performance, but maybe that could help you out in some future runs at some point. 😁
And also, I hope that you could feel better with your voice, it sounds like pretty serious problem. So please take care of yourself, and rest as much as you need, and I hope that your voice will be well again. And I super appreciate even more, right now, how much work is being put into making these videos weekly. Scott, you're amazing, don't ever forget that. Thanks for not giving up. 🙏☺️
Thanks Batel
Scott, the reason why Quilava doesn't evolve for the Underground Rival fight at 19:20 is because Quilava evolves at level 36.
They did a weird Cyndaquil evolves extra early (14) and Quilava evolves extra late (36) thing, and did the opposite for Totodile, who evolves into Croconaw at 18 and Feraligatr at 30. Chickorita evolves at Bayleaf at 16 and Meganium at 32 - the "average" of the two.
Yup. I think it’s just weird that they gave him the levels they did so that the Cyndaquil team is noticeably worse than the other two teams…
Thanks. Glad you loved the video.
the difference between the first & second playthroughs is crazy. well done
I really hope you start to feel better Scott! I hope it's nothing serious and you can keep doing what you love.
Hi Scott, I hope you'll find out what ails you at the doctor's appointment next week. Not knowing can be very stressful. Get well soon! And thanks for this run. Pinecone is a cute Pokémon that I wish was stronger.
Thanks for taking my advice :)
Vernacular variety is the spice of life
The sad thing about gen 2 is having 2 fighting type specialists, chuck and the hiker.
(Also 2 psychic and 2 poison, even though koga is kinda bug too)
They could have gone with a ground member since blue has a mix of types so the type is completely missing as a gym/elite 4 member
This does look to be a challenge. Can’t wait to see how you win this Scott!
Your videos are really great background noise to fall asleep to, and that's not a bad thing at all.
I really hope your voice recovers and you feel better. Honestly the videos can even wait, it's not worth the fact that it's interfering with your personal life. Please take it easy!
This video was really good too and Pineco's performance was understandable tbh.
Seeing the ENT this week!

Thank you so much for recording this despite the pain. ROCK SMASH
I have an idea for you for future first play through attempts. ROCK SMASH would be a possibility to chip down the defense on the iron snake. It's far inferior to hidden power, of course, but it would be stronger than headbutt against the magnets early and could chip away at defensive walls midgame.
ROCK SMASH Also, you're the best.
ROCK SMASH
Pineco is probably my favorite gen two PKMN! I'm playing Silver for the first time, so I should probably be taking notes considering that I enjoy using PKMN sub optimally while refusing to over level👀
I dont care if hes good or not. Pineco design is so cool. Such a lovely defensive piece of a bug cone. Game freak shouldve just given him a strong bug move. Scott, be well and dont push yourself too much on making a lot of videos. Your fans support you.
Best wishes with your treatment Scott!
You can spam those statues in the Rocket Secret hideout. Ive used that for levels when I was a kid and just brute forced everything.
Yeah. Onix is real bad.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Combine that with the fact that it's traded and that I had to grind up to 14, and deal with sand attack, made the fight take about 4 real life hours.

Just a suggestion maybe anything that performs at F or Bruno tier in the initial playthrough can get a single egg move for the optimized run (Yes it would be a bit unfair but... they did so bad).

I feel like your movement through Whitney 's gym is the only right answer, I didn't even know the other existed lol
Ah man, that Red battle in the first run was rough! Glad you were able to take him down
I just got an idea for a gym leader who would have a gym based around forest and grass, everything about his appearance and trainers implying him to be Grass type gym leader, and then
His team consists of some combination of Pineco, the Floette line, and his ace Sudowoodo.
Gives you the Prank Badge and a TM for Trick Room.
Yeah Hoothoot has a pretty terrible learnset. I tried to use it when the virtual console releases came out but ended up boxing it.
Ah, the premier spiker of gen 2 NU. This should be interesting. XD
Thank you for these series!~ I've loved learning along side you
They took care of me! I'm back in action now. :)
Pineco really does show the flaws of a purely defensive mon in a solo challenge. Hopefully Foretress can make a redemption comeback.
I'm frustrated with the people who were frustrated with your use of frustration now I can't unheard it.
I don't know if you're gonna do more runs with very defensive mons, but you can try protecting every other turn during the Jasmine fight with Steelix. Between the organic misses and the protect, it should run out of iron tail pretty fast. Might make it less, err, "vexing" :)
As always, fantastic video and thank you for all your hard work!
That would definitely help prevent irritation in that fight.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Should’ve tried Rock Smash as well.
Really sorry to hear about the health problem with your voice Scott. Best wishes in your recovery and treatment plan.
At Whitney I still always take and also always took the upper path (same as yours) since first time playing as a kid :D something like 23 years ago... man, good old times and memories.
You. Real one for this Scott. Absolutely tortuous endeavor
Cheers!
I think Ditto will be worse than it too!
Hey Scott! You'll be in my thoughts this week. Hope the speech specialist can help. Totally understand any delays that might occur. Get well soon.
Hey just wanted to say I feel like the pace of your speech slowed down a lot and is so much nicer now.
Thanks man.
Trying to relax the voice. Also got a few comments about me speaking too fast. For awhile I was getting the, "You talk so slow" comments, so I tried to push myself to get faster. Now it's time to balance out. Glad you like it!
The fact that you did a second run with this mon is absolutely insane
Well I did two playthroughs with Magikarp in Yellow ;)
That was one brutal run but I'm glad you toughed it out! I hope your health picks up :)
I'll reach out to a good singing instructor. I've got someone in mind. Thanks!
Not even 5 minutes and you're already making me anxious with that final sage goodness
Yeah, I really wanted to make that spot into a moment. That Sage rarely gets a moment to shine.
Pineco's evolution has just one weakness! Which is a 4x weakness to fire so Reds Charizard will be really fun!
Well, he gets oneshot as a pineco, won't be much of a difference in that case xD
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I'm glad to hear you find my input useful.
I guess this means that up to generation 4, particularly specialized Pokémon have to do with what they have?
Rock Smash is also good against Jasmine. I dunno why you didn't get that.

Hey Scott, I used to do a lot of singing as a vocal performance major, and voice strain is a very real problem. I highly recommend taking a few days to stay quiet and rest your voice. Hope it gets better!
Your accent really shines through with the way you say Quilava.
Yeah this was like “soft lock picking light”. The softest of locks.
Predictions/Results:
Predicting Unoptimized Completion Time - 2:15:00
Good lord, this is sad to watch. Poor Pineco. Over two and a half hours just to beat the Johto portion of the challenge.
Initial Prediction for Optimized Completion Time - 1:58:55
After what happened in the unoptimized run, I had no confidence this initial prediction for the optimized run would be remotely possible so I've decided to do a second prediction for the optimized completion time.
New Prediction for Optimized Completion Time - 2:40:00
It did a little worse than my new prediction, but considering you improved it by an entire hour that's really quite the impressive optimization. The Bruno tier is well deserved, but those results for Pineco make me wanna give it lots of treats and praise it for doing so well despite turning in the worst results yet.
