Silicone strips are the best. They are waterproof and lasts for up to 2 weeks. I used on a hysterectomy scar and the line became white and blended into my skin color...making it almost invisible! Something to beware of is, you want to make sure you are fully healed on exterior skin otherwise silicone can actually be counter productive.

Keloid scars are usually a result of having a lot of collagen in your body. Revisions of keloid scars usually result in worse keloid scarring.

  • @ПРОМОВИДЕОДЛЯАГЕНТСТВНЕДВИЖИМО

You could use Vaseline instead of silicone! Yes, regular Vaseline. It moisturizes and softens not only the scar itself, but also the healthy skin around the scar, increases blood flow in the scar area and promotes skin regeneration. This is the method used by the Russians. Scar treatment in this way is effective and cheap. Vaseline is applied as soon as the wound heals.

@@little_happiness_forever I am healing from a deep wound on my leg from a dog bite and it has only been 3 weeks but my wound is healing well, the smaller ones look regular fading scars already. After the sutures were removed (2 weeks from day 0), I applied plain Vaselline and cover with bandage. The principle is to keep wound environment moist as possible. I wash it daily with soap and warm water (I learned temperature is also important for faster healing). It is now 3.5 weeks and I am just waiting for the exudates (the wound weeps/release exudates for some time as a natural healing process), and once the wound is closed, I will switch to silicone sheets (hopefully in one more week) up to such number of months it will take for my wound to heal (or the scar to nicely fade away).

I had a reduction September of last year. My incisions opened and my scars are over an inch wide. It took months for the wounds to turn into skin. And my body didn’t break down the stitches for almost an entire year. Every time I tried to use the sheets for the first six months after, a stitch would surface and poke a hole into my scars. At 10 months post op, I finally felt safe using the scar sheets.
Even this late to the game, I can tell it’s working. I’ve been wearing silicone sheets 24/7 for almost three months, and it’s helped so much.

Makes more sense to stick with the silicone and wear upf 50+ clothing over it. (Or just a diy upf bandage)
Even if you don't have upf rated clothes, you can hold your clothes up to the sun to see how much light it lets through. Usually natural fabrics (cotton, linen) perform worse, and less breathable, tightly woven synthetics perform better. Darker colours perform a lot better than lighter colours. Basically you have to go against your intuition of what you'd want to wear in the summer heat.

Thank you for the information. I got mine done this July. I had some hematomas develop due to an autoimmune response I had right after surgery because I have an iron deficiency which wasn’t clear till the surgery, most of them are clearing up now, I’ve had ultrasounds to monitor them, i also got a seroma but no infections. This was because the bra I had didn’t have enough compression. I now have good compression! I’m currently on negative pressure therapy with an amazing wound care specialist taking care of me. So it’s been a rough start but I’m hopeful, I’m in week 6 now, I got the micro textured, mentor siltex, 225cc. They are feeling fairly soft but haven’t seen them properly with all these dressings. My incisions opened up again due to the drainages, and I’ve just got them restitched, the stitches are outside this time. Will this gel work on them too? How soon after the incisions are closed can I start?

That comment about spf is not true though, the number on spf is how many times longer you can be in the sun without burning, not how many minutes... So if you burn within 1 minute spf 30 will last you 30 minutes.

I still have scabs over my scars. I assume I wait until those have fallen off before using silicone? Also, I hear early use of microneedling can be helpful, and more helpful than waiting too long. Can you speak on that?

I had a mohs procedure on my face to remove skin cancer, a month ago. I’m finding the tape to work well! I use it at night. The silicone gel is sticky and I don’t like it as well.

    • @DrSchulmanplasticsurgery
      @DrSchulmanplasticsurgery  Рік тому

good silicone gel should not be sticky. If yours is, either you are not using a 100% medical grade silicone OR you are applying too much. Put a very small amount and it will dry. You can use the link in the description if you need a good gel.

    • @DrSchulmanplasticsurgery

I think the silicone is best left alone, since it is supposed to dry in a thin layer. Aloe will just make it sticky and keep it from working the way it is intended.

What about Scar Revision surgery? I have 4 keloids or hypertrophic scars on my stomach from fibroid surgery two years ago. I Did steroid injections over the fall and been doing silicon everyday. Scars are still there and I hate them. They are much flatter but I still hate them and am self conscious in swimsuit. One of the scars is 4 inches. :(. The other 3 are smaller. I don’t understand why the surgeon didn’t make a bigger deal out of these scars especially when he could have gone through my C-section scar. Is Scar Revision a good option?

That is not how SPF works. SPF50 means 1/50th of uvc/b can get to your skin. Time is not a component of SPF. Time is going to matter more for type whether you take a physical or chemical sunblock. Aluminum or UV conversion.

I have brown skin and had a dime sized lipoma close to below my butt cheek. I was insecure about it, so a Dermatologist removed it for me.
The 1 inch keloid that is now there looks much, much worse than the lipoma that was there before.
It looks like an insect ingrained in my skin. I wish I never got the lipoma removed. 😢
I also have a small scar on the temporal area of my face from a raised bump that was removed. The scar there is unsightly too.
