Hello Dr. schulman, You did a procedure for me 10 years ago. The results were amazing. 5 yrs later I was watching TV and saw you were named NY's top plastic surgeon😊
Silicone strips are the best. They are waterproof and lasts for up to 2 weeks. I used on a hysterectomy scar and the line became white and blended into my skin color...making it almost invisible! Something to beware of is, you want to make sure you are fully healed on exterior skin otherwise silicone can actually be counter productive.
I do realize that no one can predict the formation of keloid scarring, but I do wish that my doctor had told me or educated me about sunscreen and silicone
@@ellaenrique3783 it’s ok…sometimes your body will make keloid no matter what you do… you should ask your doctor if he can excise(remove) them… good luck!!!.. I hope it works out for you!❤❤

I know I am late to this post, I got a Breast Aug back in 2019 and was left with raised scars. I started using silicone sheets in 2022 and the scars are almost fully diminished now in 2023. So I wouldn't necessarily say it's too late to start silicone sheets.
You could use Vaseline instead of silicone! Yes, regular Vaseline. It moisturizes and softens not only the scar itself, but also the healthy skin around the scar, increases blood flow in the scar area and promotes skin regeneration. This is the method used by the Russians. Scar treatment in this way is effective and cheap. Vaseline is applied as soon as the wound heals.
Hi, Can you please help me. I'm using scar away gel while applying do we have to massage or only spread. Also, when we apply second time on the same day we have to clean the scar area or not.
@@little_happiness_forever I am healing from a deep wound on my leg from a dog bite and it has only been 3 weeks but my wound is healing well, the smaller ones look regular fading scars already. After the sutures were removed (2 weeks from day 0), I applied plain Vaselline and cover with bandage. The principle is to keep wound environment moist as possible. I wash it daily with soap and warm water (I learned temperature is also important for faster healing). It is now 3.5 weeks and I am just waiting for the exudates (the wound weeps/release exudates for some time as a natural healing process), and once the wound is closed, I will switch to silicone sheets (hopefully in one more week) up to such number of months it will take for my wound to heal (or the scar to nicely fade away).
My husband only used Vaseline on his scar after a Mos procedure. The scar has disappeared! My wound is on my hand so keeping Vaseline applied is almost impossible. The silicone strip works great for me.
I had a reduction September of last year. My incisions opened and my scars are over an inch wide. It took months for the wounds to turn into skin. And my body didn’t break down the stitches for almost an entire year. Every time I tried to use the sheets for the first six months after, a stitch would surface and poke a hole into my scars. At 10 months post op, I finally felt safe using the scar sheets. Even this late to the game, I can tell it’s working. I’ve been wearing silicone sheets 24/7 for almost three months, and it’s helped so much.
Very informative.I had just my surgery last June 3rd this year. My surgeon advised me to use this silicone gel and i am ordering it so soon. And thank you for knowing that it should be partner with sunscreen. This helps a lot.More power, doc.
Makes more sense to stick with the silicone and wear upf 50+ clothing over it. (Or just a diy upf bandage) Even if you don't have upf rated clothes, you can hold your clothes up to the sun to see how much light it lets through. Usually natural fabrics (cotton, linen) perform worse, and less breathable, tightly woven synthetics perform better. Darker colours perform a lot better than lighter colours. Basically you have to go against your intuition of what you'd want to wear in the summer heat.
70% of my patients are POC, and this information still applies. Treating a fresh surgical scar with silicone, sunscreen, and lasers applies to people of every color.
Hey doc, just a tip! The background music is too loud, its really drowning your voice. Maybe you can lower it in the upcoming videos to make it less distracting

That comment about spf is not true though, the number on spf is how many times longer you can be in the sun without burning, not how many minutes... So if you burn within 1 minute spf 30 will last you 30 minutes.
I still have scabs over my scars. I assume I wait until those have fallen off before using silicone? Also, I hear early use of microneedling can be helpful, and more helpful than waiting too long. Can you speak on that?
I had a mohs procedure on my face to remove skin cancer, a month ago. I’m finding the tape to work well! I use it at night. The silicone gel is sticky and I don’t like it as well.
good silicone gel should not be sticky. If yours is, either you are not using a 100% medical grade silicone OR you are applying too much. Put a very small amount and it will dry. You can use the link in the description if you need a good gel.
I wonder why my surgeon didn’t recommend this for me? My auntie did send me this and I got the sheets! What about the scar creams?? How wound you implement all these combinations
I think the silicone is best left alone, since it is supposed to dry in a thin layer. Aloe will just make it sticky and keep it from working the way it is intended.

I don’t understand why the surgeon didn’t make a bigger deal out of these scars especially when he could have gone through my C-section scar. Is Scar Revision a good option?
That is not how SPF works. SPF50 means 1/50th of uvc/b can get to your skin. Time is not a component of SPF. Time is going to matter more for type whether you take a physical or chemical sunblock. Aluminum or UV conversion.
I have brown skin and had a dime sized lipoma close to below my butt cheek. I was insecure about it, so a Dermatologist removed it for me. The 1 inch keloid that is now there looks much, much worse than the lipoma that was there before. It looks like an insect ingrained in my skin. I wish I never got the lipoma removed. 😢 I also have a small scar on the temporal area of my face from a raised bump that was removed. The scar there is unsightly too.

Scars are still there and I hate them. They are much flatter but I still hate them and am self conscious in swimsuit. One of the scars is 4 inches. :(. The other 3 are smaller. I don’t understand why the surgeon didn’t make a bigger deal out of these scars especially when he could have gone through my C-section scar. Is Scar Revision a good option?
Dr. If I decided to use silicone tape, when and how to use the sunscreen ? Thanks
If I want to put a silicone strip on my c-section scar, do you recommend putting sunscreen first then the strips?

HELLO! I'M FROM GHANA AND I HAVE THIS OLD SCAR ON MY LEG WHICH I WANT TO REMOVE. CAN YOU BE OF HELP BY SUGGESTING WHICH TREATMENT TO BE USED? THANKS

Thank you for great info!! Love EltaMD sunscreen!
It is great because scars are sensitive and need a sunscreen designed for sensitive skin.
That is not how SPF works. SPF50 means 1/50th of uvc/b can get to your skin. Time is not a component of SPF. Time is going to matter more for type whether you take a physical or chemical sunblock. Aluminum or UV conversion.
Does anyone have advice for the scar after rhinoplasty?
Fasting, Keto and enzymes work.
Thank You very much for info Dr. Dont tell you anything about scars! All they care about is having a successful surgery.
I also have a small scar on the temporal area of my face from a raised bump that was removed. The scar there is unsightly too.
Will silicone tape physically hold the healing scar in a flatter position in contrast to just a gel?
possibly, but some people find the tape tougher to use
