Dude, are you serious? I have a 2023 Forester Wilderness that had the base sound system. Do you know what I did? I went to Walmart and bought four kicker speakers and ordered the wiring harness and installed all four in under an hour. I was out of a little over $200. There is no way I would go through all that for something so simple.
Funny that I come across this video tonight. I picked up my 2025 Outback Wilderness one week ago. My first Subaru. While the Harmon Kardon system is impressively better, it still left me wanting! Dropped the car off tonight to a company that installs audio and other aftermarket equipment. Installing a Kicker 10” sub system that will greatly improve the fullness and depth of the audio. Then trips to the store or off roading in Moab (in my home state) will be that much better. UPDATE: Just finished watching the entire video. Had to laugh about the Frankie music. I was a die hard Frankie fan in the 80’s! I too will jam to Pleasure Dome, Rage Hard and Two Tribes. Cheers.
You could always have swapped out the speakers, installed and amp and a sub yourself but since you are leasing and the dealer agreed to your terms I think that it was good.
Thanks Claus, I'm sure that the dealer thinks you are a real Santa!!! I got the 2025 Wilderness with almost every option that seemed reasonable. And I agree with you 100%. I've been a musician all my life (since 8 years old). The Harman Kardon system is a game changer! Good move.
I remember my first transistor radio. Most of my cars have had tube radios. But i agree that you need good tunes. Way to kick the dealer's butt for the deal. Like a boss.
Hey Claus - !!Right Thing!! And it looks like you've got a new career ahead of you - start a business as a surrogate car purchaser to stand in for those of us less skilled in the art of negotiation!
Sounds like my experience when I bought a 2016 WRX. I drove it for a year, and between the numerous small things that annoyed me and the peice of crap stereo system, I just couldn't take it any longer and sold it. I ended up buying a GTI, which for me is an infintely better car, and it has the Fender audio system which is pretty decent. I'm now considering the Outback Wilderness, but towing is a must requirement, and that CVT worries me.
I traded in a 2021 Onyx XT for this same reason for a 2024. Even with upgraded speakers it just wasn’t pushing enough power. The HK, heated steering wheel and wireless CarPlay are all very welcome additions and definitely peak outback.
Any time you come away not feeling cheated by a car dealer is a good day. I have a theory that your musical taste in music is set in your teens/20s and you love that music forever. Sure, you can add new artists but that's your core.
I think the dealer went overboard to accommodate you. Good for them-they take care of their customers. The fact that you insisted you’re bringing the car back “filthy” is pretty low!
Claus- Two questions….. I have a 2024 OBW with the Harmon Kardon system and I want a CD player too. Where did they install the cd player? In front of the armrest? How does the cd player controlled? thru the infotainment screen and if so does the infotainment system work well with the cd player?
Claus I love your “call it like ya see it” style, you’re one of my favs. Leases are almost always a bad idea, and those “offroad” cars...well they’re just silly!!
I. F'ukn. Love. THIS. I have a 2024 Forester, and couldn't imagine being without the Harmon-Kardon upgrade! Totally LOVE that FGH was the music choice.
I have put in an amplifier, subwoofer and good speakers in to my Subaru and it did the job! I would even dare the statement, that it plays better than the Harman Kardon. But NO, Claus had to get a new car!! At least your wife will probably think you still are driving the old one as she won't notice any differences
your Harmon Kardon like mine I need to point out has a separate amp for each of the speakers all nine speakers and sound deadening in the bodywork to keep out the sounds of the outside world lol, the sound system you have will last a lifetime and your lifetime is to short for Doof Doof 🔈🔉🔊 Play anything, just play it loud!!!!
If you're happy and you can afford it, that's what really matters. The stealerships made a big profit most likely, or they wouldn't have done the deal. Good luck with your new car Claus.
LOL I had a 2023 Crosstrek Limited and the music sucked!! So 10 months into the lease I went back and traded in for the 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness and never looked back , you need the Harmon Kardon system bro!!!
You should have done your research before leasing the car in the first place. You could have just got a limited or touring until they came out with the upgraded stereo for wilderness. That is exactly why I held off getting wilderness cause I didn’t want the crappy stereo speakers. I’m glad I waited.
This is why we have aftermarket radios and speaker systems to modify the stereo to your likeing. Even sirius radios for different stations. Also cars depreciate the moment you take them off the lot affecting your cars worth.🙄
Very complicated to modify amplification and equalizer control on new vehicles as the head unit is integrated into the infotainment touch screen. You are looking at thousands of dollars if you can even find anyone willing to mess with the touch screen. In the old days you could just swap out the full stereo and amp. Changing speakers is easy but doesn't improve things very much. Everything has changed in the past few years on this topic.
Man! Please, please send me your contact information for when I plan to buy the 2026 Forester hybrid! I know you will get me a crazy good deal. Congratulations on your move. This is awesome!
My friend leases Porches all the time, and he says it's about the same cost as leasing a Lexus and sometimes he says he is even ahead if he gets a good buyer because rich folk do not look too close. lol
LOL is the sales guy a relative ? If you tried that on in Australia you would be laughed out of the dealership... But for you Im glad you got the service that Subaru is known for around the world.
I could only dream of a deal like that in the Netherlands: well done! Also: excellent choice of test track, FGTH 👌. Got that album on vinyl back in the day, but that doesn't get played in the car 😉
And by the way, 'Orchestra Maneuvers in the Dark' aka OMD 'Enola Gay' is still one of my favorites... How can it be that one of hit songs and a very good one can be about one of the worst things mankind ever had done??? But it is still a great song... I usally get all your references to music what is quite fun, I would say.
By the way. In Finland young people with their fisrt car were more interested on what kinda stereos were installed rather than the condition of the car :). Driving long distances good music and your sound system is vital especially on long straight and boring routes... Travelling with your car isn't always as exciting as a Formula 1 race or if it get's to that you have a ticket or you can be also dead... so there is that too and the worst thing in all this is that you will listen, if you managed to get there, in Heavens you will hear just hymns and church bells and not AC/DC or something like it... and eternity is way longer than a 1000 kilometers road trip, which is actually and quite frankly also not so nice...
I like the comments about how leasing a car is not a wise financial decision. My opinion is stop looking at cars as depreciating assets. View it as transportation expense. When you lease a car, you pay a fixed amount every month. Problems with the car? The dealer fixes it at their expense, not yours. If you buy a used vehicle with a limited or no warranty, what if the engine seizes two days later? Or the transmission takes a crap? Now you are forking out of pocket another $3-6K. Even the little repairs will nickel and dime you to death. But with a lease, you have a brand new, dependable ride, and if there is a problem, you're not paying extra for it. So, you budget $600/mo lease payment and no surprises. And every two to three years you get a new car on lease. It's transportation expense, not investing in a depreciating asset.
A car starts off its life being worth something and ends its life as a worthless piece of junk. The most economical way to have a car is to buy used - not too old - just old enough that the car has depreciated significantly. Drive the used car for as long as you can while its in good running condition. Sell it before it becomes a piece of junk. I owned a Nissan Xterra for 10 years. Bought it used for $8,000. Sold it used for $6,500. It cost me $1,500 to drive it for 10 years. $150 per year.
I owned my last Outback for 12 years, and had no car payment for 8 of those years. Only extra cost I had outside of regular maintenance was a rusty exhaust pipe needing to be replaced. When I traded it in, I got about 23% of the original purchase price which went into the next new car... i could have gotten 33% if I sold it privately.
So why didn't you test the stereo when you purchased the '24? If you could make the distinction that the HK was better in the showroom, then it stands that the same could have happened during the original purchase (for being inadequate). I bet the notes about you at the dealer say "Karen". Love that song you got in the Dominican Republic, haven't heard in forever.
Great Perfect car?! You gotta adjust the balance, move the center to more rear, adjust the EQ. It has Harmon Kardon system but that's average to but ok.
You can't sell the car, you're leasing it. Private banker here. Leasing a car is generally not a good financial decision because you make a bunch of payments and you don't have any equity to show for it.
Hellou you Canadian odd pixelgame tuber and sometimes a reasonable person! How has your summer gone? You have there a vast areas of wilderness as we have here in Finland too and in fact we are at the same latitude with you except we have this 'Golf-stream' that warmens these northern regions, but if you believe to those climate change people, it may change. Anyway... to your car choices: Here in Finland we have this saying, that men pick their cars more closely than their partners...
