I fasted for an average of three days then had a small meal and then I fasted again for three days. I repeated this cycle for three months. I went from 241 pounds to 172 pounds. I did not exercise much at all, just did walking. This was 18 months ago.
Now I only eat one meal a day for five days a week, the rest of the days I eat whenever and whatever I want. I’ve been able to maintain my weight between 177 to 182. But I do lift weights three times a week now. Also, I’m 65 years old.

After some chemo caused me to start gain weight uncontrollably, I switched to keto and to intermittent fasting 22 hours per day. Very little exercise. So far, 12 weeks, lost 25 pounds, cancer marker reversed direction and dropped 20% in a month after rising for two years. No negative events. Many positive events. Cut down on some meds and plan to continue and cut more. I wish my doctors knew something about nutrition but they didn't and so I wasted a couple of years. Anyway, glad I did find out about keto and fasting eventually. I'm 84 and feel like I lost 25 years as well as the 25 pounds.

With heart failure on a runaway train my doc talked me into keto-vegan. Around 100 days in I Realized it was unsustainable. I ran down rabbit holes on UA-cam. Thank you and those of this ilk, Mindy. I have Fasted up to 56 hours so far.
    276 pounds on 1-20-2020
    165 this morning
BMI is under 25% first time in my life.
11 pills a day no longer required.
    25 pushups are realistic.
Ejection fraction is up from 22% to 30% at intervention, now above 40%.
3 months of this style diet improved my heart function over 30%!!!.
Go back and reread that last sentence...
I now look forward to my Bloodwork results and my discussions w my Dr.
He physically didn't know who I was walking in at 163 pounds. He has now put me in the leadership role. I give him my goals for Bloodwork, pushups, squats, 40 yard dash times making a softball team after 25 years.
He says ok just be careful with.... yourself, Sten Ekberg, Dr. Berg, Thomas Delauer, Dr. Fung and the whole keto downunder series and many more have literally saved my life.
My doc gave me until 4th of July, 2020. Told me I probably wouldn't see fireworks ... ever again...
    Here I am. Still going.
I weigh less now than in 8th grade.
I dont look "skinny" to those who didn't know me before last year. I am as strong and healthy as I've ever been at 56 years old post heart attack.
The status quo has been detrimental to my health for so long. Every Medical professional telling me the I can't sustain the keto fasting lifestyle. Lose 30 or It's dangerous. Bull$hit. It saved my life!
The last 2 generations have been brainwashed into believing that taking a pill is safer than lifestyle change.
I'm as mad at the establishment as anyone could be. The cover ups and blatant misinformation is rampant. Chaos keeps us fat and dependent. Exactly how they want us...

I recently did a 3-day fast for chronic eczema on my face, and the result was nothing short of amazing. My red, itchy swollen eyes cleared up completely. No doctor had helped me before that. I still have a red patch on my cheek, but it's better, and I'm only eating during an 8-hour window for that. Feel great, energetic, and so grateful. I wish everyone the best, whatever your goal.

    • @mattkirschner3111
      @mattkirschner3111 4 роки тому +22

This is a bit misleading. Autophagy isn’t a holistic function. It occurs at different rates in different tissues. There’s also studies comparing the rates of athletes and non athletes which have significant differentials in the bodies ability to activate these functions.

By the fourth or fifth day I didn't even feel hungry when it was time to eat, and couldn't finish the food on my plate. At this time I was feeling much more energetic and mentally alert. In the past two and a half months I have lost 20 kgs by reducing meal portions and ensuring that I fast 12-15 hours for most days. I never starved, never completely removed sugar/carbs from my diet, never got the sugar crashes that had become routine. I am a 37 year old vegetarian woman in India suffering from PCOS and insulin resistance who had forgotten what it was like to have periods. I've had two successful periods since I started intermittent fasting and your videos are helping me so much to understand my body and treat it as it deserves to be treated. For years I followed the bad advice from doctors who gave medicines that worsened everything and nutritionists who told me to do six small meals a day, snacking endlessly when hunger pangs occurred. I finally feel like I am on the right path with fasting. Slowly I am heading towards longer fasts and your videos are very helpful. Kudos to you, doc, and to your team! many blessings to y'all!

Been dealing with stubborn weight. I’m so happy I discovered fasting for health and weight loss. I dropped 12 lbs. on a 3-day fast. Took a 2-day break ( I ate but didn’t go crazy with it). Now about to kick off a 5- day fast. Next a 7-day fast 10-day fast and so on. Would like to work my way up to a 40 day fast. I literally went three days without food. First time doing this so it was kinda rough. I learned that hey if I can live 3 days without food maybe I don’t have to eat so much everyday. Fasting will now be a regular part of my life

Will do a water fats next week (my first this year), it is relatively easy, am never hungry. I am an 85 years old, male.

      The short answer is yes.
I started at about 500 lbs, and am currently setting at 260-270 (I don't have a terribly good scale). Overall I'd say my skin has done an incredible job tightening up. However, I'm still dropping weight, and my understanding is that your skin will continue to shrink for 2-3 years after you've reached your goal. So, in another 2-3 years we'll see I guess.
I would say fasting has helped a lot with skin. I've seen people lose less weight and have much more lose skin.

I have always struggled with these 30 to 40 lbs of weight and feel this is the first time I have done it successfully and feel I can maintain! There is no diet plan, no specific foods to buy, when you're not eating, there's nothing to plan or buy!
Also, know that a day of food, 500 calories or less is considered a fasting day. One of these days for me would consist of a store bought frozen chicken potpie with my own chopped carrots added (350 c) to it and two medium size oranges (90 c) an hour or two later. Other meals would be two slices of veggie pizza and a salad with lots dressing or oil & vinegar.

fasting is difficult for many people because there are stages many will face on the journey towards achieving true health. There are emotions many will face with giving up foods. Giving up eating for pleasure and shifting towards eating for effect and health.
The first bridge I faced was to stop eating out, stop eating prepackaged food. And start eating Whole Foods, expect to read and study and learn about good nutrition drink lots of water.
I say this because I have been fasting a little over a year and I am can do a 20 hour fast now but I had to work up to it. I am getting lean and muscular. My last experience for god sake is don’t tell anyone you are fasting they will say oh,that’s dangerous... it’s not, eating the way most people eat is a problem and is dangerous.

I am a 5'6'' male, age 36, computer science student. I started using fasting techniques in 2018; during that year I completed a 5-day water fast, then a 10-day water fast, and finally a 14-day water fast. I currently live the OMAD lifestyle and I love it! (One Meal A Day). My journey started in January 2018, at that time I weighed 180lbs, I felt sluggish, had difficulty focusing in college, and I was always tired.
After doing a lot of research about Ketosis and Autophagy, I realized that using carbohydrates as my body's primary fuel source was no longer working for me. What I've learned about my fasting experience, is that it consistently takes me 3 Days of water fasting to enter into full Ketosis, if my body was previously running on carbs; after those 3 Days then it is easy for me to stay in Ketosis by eating one meal a day.
If I do a water fast for 5 Days or longer, then I usually lose approximately 2 pounds of weight per week. If I do One-Meal-A-Day, I lose more like 1 to 1.5 pounds per week. It's been my experience that the more lean that you already are, the longer it takes to lose weight even if you fast.
The first 5 days of water fasting is always the most difficult for me because of the random periods of hunger pain or craving....but once I fast beyond 5 days, then I no longer feel any hunger at all because my body has completely adapted to burning only the fat in the body. It's like the body basically shuts down my Hunger Hormones or something and it satisfied with simply burning old fat and damaged cells.
These days, I typically weigh between 140lbs and 145lbs; I never climbed back up to the 180lbs that I was at last year. The reason why I stay on OMAD is not to lose weight or even fat, I stay in Ketosis because of the superhuman attributes that seem to activate. Autophagy provides me with enhanced energy; heightened focus and attention to detail; improved short-term and long-term memory; reduced anxiety and increased confidence; faster healing of scars and wounds; eliminates headaches; makes me less susceptible to illness; boots my overall motivation; and many other powerful benefits that I have consistently experienced whenever I am in the Autophagy state.
It even helped me to learn and understand Calculus and Trigonometry, which was always struggle for me in the past, but somehow it all made sense when I started using Ketosis. It almost feels like I took an IQ boosting drug, like in that movie "Limitless." Math became incredibly easy and fun, which is why I am pursing a Master's Degree in Computer Science now.
It's really quite amazing to go through the physical and mental transformation that occurs when I tap into Ketosis and Autophagy. I have tried many other diets and supplements in the past during my 15 years in the Army, but nothing comes even remotely close to being as noticeably beneficial for physical fitness compared to Fasting, Ketosis, and Autophagy.
Using OMAD and eating Keto-friendly foods, I feel like my health has improved tenfold. I don't take any artificial vitamins or supplements at all, I simply avoid high-carb, high-sugar foods, and I never eat less than 16-hours between meals. Some days I'll treat myself to whatever I want to eat if I have a particular craving for something; it's easy to bounce back from anything I consume as long as I stick to the most important rule that I established for myself, which is: Never Eat More Frequently Than The 16-Hours Per Meal.
Spiking my insulin with food 3 to 5 times a day like many people do, causes me to become incredibly unproductive and lazy, I have no motivation to do anything if I do that.
16-hours of fasting per meal is my bare minimum feeding window and it's incredibly easy for me to stick to that rule since hunger pain is barely even noticeable when I am in Ketosis, and I don't even have to count calories when I eat. And since I eat less frequently, it has the added bonus of allowing me to enjoy my meals a lot more, now I only eat the things that I enjoy the most instead of eating everything that I have access to.

Valore Dramack well done!! I know where you coming from, I’m working on pretty much the same pattern as you eventually I’ve been getting up to 23 to completion of 36 say 5 times over the last month and a half, I can’t believe the discipline my mind is set on like I finally get what my body is needing me to do, like you felt unmotivated and indulging in comfort food my weight going more upward buying clothes that were sizes 22/24 until I held a pair of jeans up and got a wake up as to how my clothes were starting to look like curtains or blankets, just one immense piece of cloth, starting IF took me over a year to adjust my body fully to it, and now for the first time since days I can’t remember has my weight dropped to the under 100kg zone! I am stoked bc I’m not much of a gym person but I do reasonable activity, I can only imagine what my results would be if I started adding high intensity 20minute workouts to my morning, I’ll probably tire from how unfit I am and probably sit down 5 minutes into it, I guess the beauty of IF is it’s ready when your ready, we all might fall off the wagon now and again but the IF apps they have out now are amazing, they educate, empower, and encourage each time you feel like yourve failed your fasting window, your so right in setting a manageable fasting time allowing your body to adjust, to not be too hard on yourself if you can’t stay on course it’s all part of shaping into your new food awareness window, I love reading everyone’s stories on here it’s very encouraging right down to personal benefits, keep it up everyone if only more of the world would get on board we’d find answers to those most complicated situations in our worlds lifetime💕🍃

Frankly, I don't believe they should be able to call themselves doctors. The schooling they have isn't really a 'doctorate' it's more like a master's degree in physiology.

I have been doing a 16/8 and adhering very stringently since May of 2021. I have mixed in a few 24 hour (OMAD) days here and there and have lost 55 lbs. Now I am doing 2MAD everyday with a 16 hour minimum fast. I do this because my goal is to reduce Insulin response and only raise my Insulin levels twice a day to improve my insulin sensitivity. Additionally, I am trying to limit my carbs and eat more healthy fats and protein. I will add I have been very consistent with my physical fitness. I walk a minimum of an hour a day on the treadmill keeping my heart rate at or just below 120 bpm as well as practicing Kettlebells 6 days a week doing the Simple & Sinister program. Fasting really works and I will continue it for the rest of my life. Good luck to all on your health journey.

This is very useful because a lot of other sources blur it all together. I started a 12/12 fast, moving to 14/10 after a while, and my main purpose has been autophagy, but I dropped about 30 lbs in six months rather effortlessly because my body doesn't even get that hungry during the eating window. This clarifies that I have to do it longer for autophagy.

As Muslims we are required to fast for a month. From dawn to dusk nothing goes into our bodies. No food, no pills and no water. It's hard for a couple of days, but you get used to it so much that the idea of eating lunch becomes ridiculous. And you start asking yourself why we eat lunch. Anyhow, I thought fasting was just a religious obligation to connect with God and feel for the poor, but it's more beneficial to our own bodies. When I fast, I sleep well, have less anxiety, I'm more focused. So I've recently decided to eat less. I'm sure we are on the right path. Oh thanks for the video.

This is a great video, you explained this in a way that's really easy to understand. I started Intermittent Fasting and eating One Meal A Day (OMAD) almost 2 years ago. I started in July 2017 weighing 176 pounds, I lost 31 pounds in the first 3 months and I have kept it all off ever since. I now weight only 145 pounds. My waist was 34" and now it's only 28". I hit my goal weight in only 3 months and I have kept it off over 1 1/2 years and I no longer trying to lose weight but I continue to do OMAD for autophagy. OMAD has changed my life and I feel obligated to share my experience with as many people as I can. I have a mountain biking UA-cam channel but I have also made a few videos about my fat loss journey with OMAD to spread the word. I have been told so many times that I look 10 years younger.
