ceuta and melilla are like 3x smaller than you show them; morocco had been raiding ceuta and melilla since the conquest of melilla and the annexing of ceuta from portugal in the 17th century, spain told them to stop, and they didn't, the reason why spain annexed sidi ifni was to compensate the fact they couldn't allow themselves to annex parts of the rif due to the british political pressure.

you didnt mention that France invaded what was ottoman algeria, at that time algeria was part of the ottoman empire. i think the ottoman influence in the region was always quite overlooked
at that time Ottomans were so weak the regional rulers of their Vassals like Algeirs had full control, they only mentioned the Sultan as the Muslim Caliph in mosques after the Friday prayer.

@@bconni2Portugal only occupied ports on some coasts of Morocco and at that time Moroccan dynasties were fighting each other so they didn't really focus on it... also the local population of these regions joined the Portoguese in their aventures to the American continent so it wasn't really a colonisation for them since they got some benefits , after the Saadi dynasty win the civil war against the Wattasid they kicked the Portoguese from these coasts and then king Sebastien tried to colonise Morocco for the first time (i mean all of the country , he wanted to add it as a Portoguese territory and make it christian) and he died bcs of that, i think his body is still somewhere in the north of Morocco

During molay abdarahman’s rule morocco stretched till river senegal gao and Timbuktu south and river tafna in tlemsan east the French campaign started from the southern regions simultaneously with the algerian campaign creating a pincer that took years to complete resulting in Severing morocco from it’s African roots this caused great economic hardship internal discontent which ultimately lead to our loss against the Europeans.

but he failed to mention Portugal's legacy in Morocco. the Portuguese empire fought a 350 year war on North African soil, in some of the most horrifically gruesome battles in the history of war. the absolute horror and barbarity in which the Portuguese and Moroccans treated each other is something historians are too ashamed to talk about

The cards are incorrect, Mauritania and a big part of algeria of what is called now Algeria were a part of moroccan empire. French colonialists created algeria because it was considered as a part of France (department) because it was never a country, unlike morocco.

First the Angles and Saxons and then the Vikings and finally the Normans. The original people are no more. How about the Americas? Besides being weak and broke one of the big reasons that forced the Moroccan monarchy to sign the deal of protection with France was that France was a secular Republic. At the same time, the other European Colonial Powers were monarchies, and falling under the control of another monarchy meant the end of you as a monarchy that's why they signed that deal of protection with France making sure that France would protect the Moroccan monarchy from the rebellions inside and other European colonial powers outside.
It was not Morocco vs Spain and France it was vs Europe, when france tried to invade Morocco she got sh*it on and asked for help and you did not mention how many battles france and spain lost vs low in number and not armed army of Morocco

You should do a video on the Rif! My ancestor (my grandfather's uncle) was a Spanish commander of infantry, Miguel Esparza Arteche. According to our family book, he met with Abd el Krim a few times at a café and tried to convince him of Spanish benefits to Rif (Idk, imperialist mindset if you will). Anyway, my great-great uncle was sadly ambushed and killed at Buxada (Melilla) on 15th of Feb 1917. He seemed to have gone in an advanced reconnaissance party which was caught off-guard and took a hit to the chest while on horseback. May he rest in peace. No hard feelings, obviously. A very important event that toppled the Spanish monarchy as Alfonso XIII el Africano was largely to blame for the disaster...

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco in the late 1990s. The Rif region still maintained the reputation as a no-go zone/no man's land for outsiders (colonizers in the '40s and '50s, and European/Western tourists in the '60s till the early '70s!) By the '90s of course, it was all good, but to this day the Rif Region (and the Amazigh locals- known for having red hair and green eyes) is legendary near mythical- The last warrior hold outs who refused to be conquered with the rest of the country. Its beautiful landscape too!
amazigh rifs are never known for having red hair or green eyes, the red hair existed but it wasn't natural it was a dye called el henna that many amazigh women used especially rifians use, green eyes were more common there than any place in morocco because of some roman/european DNA but still its like very rare amoungst rifians, but rifians were known to be beautiful women with dark black hair and amber, brown, black eyes @@juniorjames7076

Ceuta and Melilla have been Spanish since the 15th century, way before the sultanate of Morocco existed.
It existed there under the Marinid empire. Ceuta and Melilla belonged to the Portuguese (Sebastian) but after they lost the war Against the Saadi's, and Spain took over Portugal they took the lands that were under the Portuguese and there is that.
But to say Morocco didn't exist is just absurd, it may have different type of ruling but it was always Morocco or what is called back then until today (Al-maghrib)

Good video but portraying Morocco as a victim ignores its history as one of the principal Barbary Pirates which preyed upon European shipping and people for hundreds of years, enslaving 1,000,000 people during these raids. Of course, the original invasion of the Iberian Peninsula was also launched via Morocco by the Moors (Berbers). So, it is difficult to see Morocco as anything but deserving of the karma it received in the 19th century.
They became pirates when your ancestors tried to invade them. Your ancestors took slaves to the new world mainly from africa but they found out that Moroccans were africans that defended themself

The Barbary pirates existed outside of the Atlantic Slave Trade and the slaves the Moroccans, Algerians, Tunisians and Libyans dealt in, spanned all of Europe and Black Africa. You chose Morocco's history a land which is one of the oldest countries in the world with long and a rich history that this task isn't easy let alone for a non Moroccan who studied Moroccan history.
By the way "Algeria" didn't exist at all only was a largely independent tributary state of the Ottoman Empire during the early modern period, located on the Barbary Coast of North Africa from 1516 to 1830. Area only 300.000km² till Frans came and colonized Algiers and because Morocco was helping Algiers and lost so they took a big part, the Moroccan Eastern sahara which is STILL NOT recognized by Morocco and Morocco still want it's land back. France as an colonizer (132 years) "created" the Frankenstein (parts of Morocco Tunisia and Libia) the fake state which now is called Algeria.
