Andy, what do you recommend for someone planning on using APSC lens with the ZVE1 or A7CII, cause i believe the ZVE1 can't use apsc mode on 4k video because of the lack of megapixels
for what we use the zve1 is actually fine however you would have to use clear image zoom or default the camera to dynamic active stabilisation mode which gives the 1.5x crop. you are right it doesnt have enough megapixels but with either mode some sony magic happens are you really can't notice quality drop offs especially on socials

Could you please make a video testing low light performance (city if possible) on the A7Cii, I’m having a hard time choosing between that and the Zv-E1, I prefer to have the hybrid option & no overheating but i need good low light performance for video

Can you test whether there is any difference in bokeh between the cameras when using high shutter speed (1/4000) and a fast prime lens wide open? Does EFCS on the A7CII have a negative impact on bokeh? Is it smoother in full electronic? Is the A7IV smoother when shooting full mechanical?

What lens do you recommend for the A7C II? Tamron 28-200?
The zve1 and a7iv had warmer and more DR in lowlight stabilization test than a7c2? Is that lens related? ISO?
If I'm trying to replicate the vibe of the Leica Q3 (one camera one lens) and using crop/clear image zoom to get a 35/50/75mm type shot when needed, would you say the A7CII is enough or does the video fall apart fast when zooming in? Should I be looking at the +60mp A7CR instead? I'm just gonna ssume the ZV-E1 is completely out of the question.
Great video. I am in the predicament of choosing what to upgrade to from my a6400. Not concerned about cost, more so looking for the best option and will to invest. Mostly I am interested in video, but the last of IBIS in the ZV-E1 is what really concerns me, given you have to crop to basically get the steady footage. Really want the A7SIV to come out lol.
In terms of vlogging, if you have a ultrawide lens like the new 16-35mm GM II or the 14mm G, do you feel the crop to get the steady footage on the ZV-E1 would be a non-issue? (Handheld recording yourself while walking for example) Or would it be better to lean towards the A7CII or A7CR?
i’m only using active stabilisation in both which is 1.1x crop not bad at all. a7siv could still be ages away. Also look at the example i gave all of them use active mode to look the best and they all crop only 1.1x. 24mm cropped 1.1x isn’t even that bad but anything 20mm and wider is ideal
a7cr had same ibis and a7cii so it’s the same really

Even though I mostly shoot video, and really want the best low light capability, I think I'll go for the A7CII for 3 reasons.
1. It looks so good with that silver
2. Seems to have a much better build quality/durability especially for travel/hiking (what i typically do)
3. Less chance of overheating
Hey! I have the A7IV and noticed a weird problem with the active stabilization, it didn't work well with my tamron 17-28 but a lot better with my sony 24-70gm (at the same focal length) and the 85 1.8. Did you notice any similar things on the zev1 or a7cii or is this just a7iv being janky? With the tamron it kind of, jumps around a lot, kind of stable but not smooth at all, much like what you showed in your example.
Also, great photos and nice comparisons, very much considering switching to a7cii now
I have a Sony 20-70 F4 G on my A7IV and it also jumps around a ton in active stabilisation which is why I'm going to sell it

I'm considering doing it too because of that dynamic stabilisation! Why did you decide to make the change? And is there anything you miss about the A7IV?
Does the 4K60fps cropped mode on the A7cII reduces and affects its lowlight capabilities or is it just a frame crop? Cause im still battling between getting the a6700 (coming from a ZVE10) or getting the a7Cii to move to full frame and make it worthy the extra money. But if the 4k60fps of the a7cii is gonna perform the same as the 4k60fps of the a6700 in terms of low light no point in putting the extra cash for the a7cii.
it’s just a crop base iso is the same so it’s still pretty great but zve1 low light is just next level

Only thing i ask from Sony is to not put any crop factor on 4k 60fps for the A7CII.
as a video first shooter, the zv-e1 is still superior for me. Rock solid motion with almost no rolling shutter, and of course slightly better low light still.

I totally lean to video but as someone who wants a third angle for studio and outdoor ‘roving reporter’ pieces to camera and occasional live streaming with minimal risk of overheating tell me if I’m wrong but the CII seems a better fit even though people keep saying the E1 is better for video?
oh yeah absolutely virtually no overheating for a7cii except 1hr for streaming 4k30
I sold my A7C for an A7IV. I love it but the stabilisation (or lack thereof) is killing me! I was really hoping the A7C2 would have Dynamic Stabilisation. I'll have to do more research to see if the new IBIS is good enough or if I need the ZV-E1
dynamic active is cool but it crops in so much it’s not super useful imo, the stabilisation is on par if not better so go for it haha

Do you think that the the zve1 would be able to give me both in amazing quality or should I rather pick the 7cII?
you can easily shoot music videos with a gimbal and an a7cii that’s probably the call for you

Good video bro, thanks for sharing… I was looking for a video that really gave a solid opinion on the points everyone kept complaining about(the card slots, joystick and VF), wanted to know how bad it was compared to the a74 experience… Glad to know it’s really not THAT bad for my use case scenario.
I came from an A6000, wanted a better experience but in full frame, the viewfinder is one thing that was holding me back.
The other thing holding me back is the potential a7v, they released the a74 one year after launching the original a7c. Do I wait another year or nah? Is the question

For full-frame, Canon R8 is a better-value hybrid with no 4k60p crop.
For apsc, the best hybrid goes to A6700, which I think is more hybrid than a7c2.
ZV-E1 is not even a hybrid.
the r8 with no ibis is not much of a hybrid camera

it’s not a low light test shot at f1.4 base 800 iso, could have easily used 3200 second base iso but that would have been too bright

i mean firstly i mentioned rarely ever happens at all let me reiterate and then obviously it’s better to lose one clip versus your whole SD card. Of course losing a 10 minute clip isn’t ideal at all but again it doesn’t happen if you use quality sd cards

I have the zve1. It’s not great. Only useful if you want to occasionally take video. Much better to use the fx30 which I also have. Wish I could have the fx3, but eh.
Stop selling zve1 for photos. It’s literally trash. It’s disingenuous to suggest it’s useful for photos, it’s meh. I use my a7rv for photos, but I really regret getting the zve1. It’s just a pointless camera. A7cii is better in almost every way.
A7iv is okay, I think the pricing is better. Zve1 may overheat if you use it as a webcam, try some long meetings lol.
While a7cii might seem good, you can now get a7c at half the price. I’ll probably get the a7cii anyway so I can take photos without using the zve1, but I don’t see why most regular people wouldn’t just buy the a7c over the ii.

I’d say a7c 2 video is trash compared to zve1. I’m a sigma fp user so I’ve got best of both worlds except my autofocus is completely unusable and file sizes are enormous. But sigma fp is constantly getting updates and you get the feeling that the zve1 is purposely crippled in the overheating department so they can protect their fx lineup
I appreciate the commentary and your tests comparing stabilization and low light performance! 7:09 clearly the A7C ii has better active stabilization over the A7 iv, but the A7 iv is showing better detail and brightness in the dark areas. In this limited sample I can appreciate straight out of the camera details with the A7 iv that the A7C ii isn’t giving me. A7C ii wins the test of handheld stabilization, but the A7 iv has the better video quality here. I have had my A7 iv for 2 months now and the idea of the improved hand held stabilization in the A7C ii for me would be the most compelling reason to think about upgrading. Still, I’m not putting a $2k USD valuation on it, especially after just spending $2500 USD on a very fine piece of engineering, (A7 iv). I am a hobbyist and don’t use my camera to make money. If others like me don’t need the razors edge latest and greatest it’s cheaper and you’ll get better stabilization with a gimbal, albeit at the expense of having to bring along another piece of gear. I have the Zhyuhn Crane M2S($150), and it gives better stabilization than anything handheld can produce.
