will be a great companion to your a6400. I have the a6500, a6000 and NEX-7 and am thinking about getting the A7Cii to be my full frame as I dont use my Canon 6D full frame anymore and need to sell it and upgrade. Was saving for the A7IV but maybe now....
As a long time A7C user, the only improvements I am look for are: #1) improved color science #2) improved F-stop w/ IBIS #3) improved dynamic range Anything else is gravy. If it has those improvement and is anywhere close to price of an A7C, it's a done deal.
Yes front wheel, 10 bit 422, AI chip, better grip, more MP’s, S-Cinetone, better colour science, streaming over USB-C, brighter better EVF, better IBIS. LOTS of improvements over the original which I own. Wish I had the money to upgrade!
A7C II seems like an awesome camera for sure. I almost waited for it but found a good deal on a used A7IV and have no regrets (coming from a Fuji XT4) I rented an A7C alongside the A7IV and the size wasn’t so significantly smaller that it changed the way I shoot or how i felt about taking the camera places. What did make a big difference though was the grip, the MUCH larger EVF, and the customizable buttons on the A7IV.
@@robinfro3610 Just make the switch. I got an A7C and am in the process of selling the X-T4. While I feel there's less controls on the A7C, when setup right they just work. No need to mess around with AF settings etc. So the A7iv should be flawless in that aspect. Also Fuji lens pricing strategy isn't great and there's plenty of Sony full frame lenses that provide the same results at a cheaper price.
@@professionalpotato4764 and even more lens choices for less $ by Sigma and Tamron or using adapted vintage lenses for even cheaper. Sony is the best eco-system for len options for sure
@robinfro3610 There are definitely things I loved and miss about the Fuji, but honestly it’s been a great swap. Because of the fujis nature, I got to figure out exactly how I use a camera. I was drawn to Fuji because of the ability to use fully manual like the film camera I used back in high school, but eventually figured out i don’t use the top dials at all other than the exposure Comp. Id set the top dials to the modes where I controlled them with the front and rear dials, which the Sony has. I’ll break it down a little more: I have essentially set up the A7IV to be used exactly how I used my Fuji: front dial for Aperture, rear dial for shutter speed, push the focus joystick to choose focus area, press down to activate deactivate IBIS, etc. it had a dedicated video switch like the Fuji did, and saves your video settings like the Fuji did, so I have that all set up the same too. It is not much heavier, but the grip is deeper and is nice to hold. Image quality is amazing. I was drawn to Fuji for the colors, but ended up almost always editing raw photos anyways as I enjoyed the process and the jpegs were never fully there for me. If I want to share quick snaps with friends and stuff, I usually use my phone. The Sony actually has beautiful colors finally, but I edit them anyways usually. The biggest difference in usability is the auto focus. The auto focus on the Sony is so good that it just feels weird coming from the Fuji. It just grabs and tracks eyes on humans and animals no problem, focuses on very dark settings, and the touch to track focus is super nice to use. This I would say is the biggest upgrade. The Fuji wasn’t bad, but for example when I handed the camera to my wife on vacation, it missed many shots vs the Sony just gets them (she doesn’t know how to use them fully yet) Otherwise, it’s the same thing you hear from everyone else, the difference in depth of field is nice, low light, etc. Overall, it’s been a nice upgrade. I went from my Fuji with 5 lenses to the Sony with 2 lenses (tamron 20-40 2.8 and Sony 85mm 1.8) and am happy with it, but the Fuji is an amazing camera so only upgrade if you feel like you REALLY need the auto focus or low light
Better grip on the A6700 than on the A7cII, that's unexpected :) Both cameras are great. A7cII is more universal with an emphasis on street and portrait photography, A7cR is again a nod to wild life or landscape photography where we often crop and then the 61MP makes a big difference. The A7cR is also a great choice for someone who will be printing large-sized photos.
90% or probably 100% of the people watching this channel would be just fine with the original a7c and the lens that Sony made especially for the camera. The a7c is the same weight and size as the a6700 and if I was going to carry around a camera as heavy as the a6700, it would be a full frame
The pricing doesn't seem right. They shrunk A7siii into zve1 and reduced the price by almost 1200 but when they shrank the A7iv they reduced by 200. I believe that the fair price for A7cii is 1800. And for people who are new to camera world like me, lumix S5ii is a pretty good option and S5ii is slightly cheaper than FX30 in my country.
@@TooMuch__2 prices are determined by their marketing team based on sales projections. They may be confident of people buying A7cii at 2000 vs not confident that people will buy zve1 if not kept around 2200
To share my honest thoughts and opinion. First of all the A7C II is a great camera. I'm enthousiastic about it. But 10 days ago i have bought the A6700. And the last of couple days i was thinking did i made a mistake with it? Because everybody was talking about the upcoming A7C II. But know it's released i see that the differences are very minimal compared with the A6700. It appears to me that the A7C II only has a bigger sensor, 7 more megapixels and an extra dial. But it also doesn't have a dual card slot or a joystick that a lot of people were dissapointed about when the A6700 came out last month. Due the fact that i don't have full frame lenses yet, i don't regret my choice for the A6700 at all!
The a6700 is pretty solid. All you lose is about 1-ish stop of DR, but that's about it. There's plenty of f/1.4 options on the market. I personally bought a used A7C instead of waiting for all the new models at a pretty good deal ($1,300) and it's been great so far.
@@professionalpotato4764 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 is about $60 which can work with A6700 pretty well. Also I got Sony E 18-105mm F4 G OSS lens which can capture pretty sharp shots on A6700.
I too will not get the A7c .. I got the a6700 and I love it. Very well balanced hybrid equally at home with photo and video. I also have the a74 and a7s3. I only look forward to a a7s4
@@MavicAir2TW for me as well. It's a true powerhouse. And i also believe that the A6700 is the start of a complete new generation of APS-C camera's wich are not to underestimate!
As a A6400 owner with apsc glass I just bought a7riv. Its a lovely camera but its quite heavy going for walks with it. I think the a7cii is the way forward.
I'm just about to do the exact same thing! I'm not a professional, so I don't need two card slots, and I simply can't give up the portability of the A6000 series, but I want a full frame camera, so the choice for me is obvious: A7C II here I come!
Thanks for honest, detailed review of these cameras. I share your excitement. I wanted to comment on the A7CR. I think what this camera brings to the table is APS-C. Let me explain. It is of course a great full frame camera, but if I want to carry less, then I can put on an APS-C lens, run in crop mode and, with the A7CR, I get the same resolution as the A6700. Extremely expensive but I’m drawn somewhat to having one camera that does it all.
you also prob couldnt justify the extra cost in a faster/more powerful PC with more RAM and CPU to be able to edit those 61 MP files nor the extra $ to buy all those extra hard drives to STORE all those 61 MP RAW files. That HAS to be considered when buying a High Res camera
@@sjsphotog That's different in my opinion. I have a PC with a i9-13900, 64GB of RAM, and a 4090 so that's kind of a moot point. What I see in the a7cR s is some bonuses with the 61mp sensor which is the same from the a7r4 (4 year old sensor). Reviews so far have indicated it has less rolling shutter in 60p with less crop vs the super35 crop. Pixel Shifting, and apparently RAW HDMI Output. I don't really crop my photos so I personally can't say that the quality and benefits of the 61mp sensor justifies an extra $700 for me.
Thanks for the presentation, Arthur! I was really excited about the A7cii, but the fact that you have the crop factor at 4k60 and thus cut out a lot of the 33 mp makes me doubt it. As someone looking for a hybrid camera, primarily for filming, this seems like a dealbreaker to me and the a6700 is actually the better choice at full-res 26 mp. I'm torn - full frame in the same body, better low-light performance, a different look OR no crop at 60 fps, 4k 120 fps (1.58 crop) and lighter and cheaper lenses.
The a6700 and the a7c and a7cII are the same size and weight as the a6700 and if I was going to carry around a camera as heavy as the a6700 I would carry a full frame. Secondly if you are a street shooter, vacation shooter, and the like, Sony made special small/tiny, lightweight fast focusing 24mm f/2.8 and40mm and 50mm f/2.5 lenses for the a7c plus the 28-60mm f/4-5.6 zoom. Sure it is the kit lens but when introduced that lens was a $500 lens so it has the same qualities as the others and covers all the focal lengths of street photography. No question the original a7c is, IMO, the best street/vacation/all around combo available unless you nee 4K60 or want to use big heavy lens on the a7c, then just buy a Sony a7iv.
Nice review…don’t agree so much on the grip being too small only in that the A7C is intended to be a small camera and adding large lenses defeats it main purpose (being small and light). If your needs are more oriented to larger lenses then an a74 (or 5) likely the much better choice as you noted. Sony seems to be be on a roll lately; 6700, ZVE1 etc. something for almost anyone.
Hi Arthur, great video! I would personally be interested in a comparison of the A7C ii (with the 20-70 F4) and the A6700 (with the 16-55 F 2.8) in terms of image quality, autofocus and video. A duel of the travel cameras... I own the 16-55 F 2.8 with the A6400 and am considering upgrading to either the A6700 or the full-frame system (mainly because of the points of comparison).
Arthur must be very busy. But consider this, the A7CII and a6700 have the same Bionz XR and AI chips. The features are the same, just one is crop sensor and the other is FF. Does FF make a difference? Most likely not. I shoot crop sensor a lot and the pictures are fantastic. Beware of people pixel peeping. You will be images enlarged so much that will cover the area of a big movie poster. And then, how many make pictures to hang on a wall or place on a table? That's one question I have. Where do many people's stills end up?
Hi there, I had exactly the same position. Having A6400 with 16-55F2.8. I got the chance to pick A7CII for less price than A6700 and so I did the jump. Now I'm in the process of find the limits and differences: - I bought the 20-70F4 ... and yes, the true is it's double price. But I found the results from this lens really satisfying. Even on and indoor event! - Does it made me better photographer? ... well not exactly. But it gave me the hit to experiment more and I’m really enjoying it. This pushes me forward. - Do I produce better images than on the a6400? … yes. Because I always wanted to do pictures in harsh conditions (darkness, indoor, street, family, all weather …). The chip is the difference here. - Did I try to use the APSC lenses on A7CII? … yes. But only one passes through - Sony 24mm F1.8Z. I decided for a time to have only 3 lenses: Sony 40mm F2.5, Sony 20-70 F4 and Sony 28-60mm set-lense. If you try the A7CII you will not want back. I used APSC for long time and I’m real fun of it. My daughter shoots with A6400 as well. But I was impressed myself how I’m not able to go back. I got used to it really very quicky. Well, I spent twice the money against the upgrade to A6700. Was it worth? After 3 month I must say, yes! The change to just a new body won’t do it. The change from A6000 to A6300 was not a big deal, the A6400 was. The A6400 is so good so when I tried the A6700 in a shop I couldn’t see much difference. The A7CII was different! Note.: I do all sorts of photography: street, landscapes, family, events. I do a lot of postpro and the A7CII with less noisy grain in higher ISO gave me better results. And off course the IBIS, which was one of a thing that I missed in A6400.
How the 4k 60p in crop factor mode on the a7cII compare to 4k 60p on a FX30/a6700 when regarding low light? are they virtually the same or a FF sensor is still better even in crop mode?
Great review. Really more interested in the A7Cr. But for overheating test, we need to start seeing how it performs when the HDMI is being used. The A6700 definitely takes a hit when using an external monitor.
@@lewcehjitl3282 I used the camera and two things effect battery life, usage and temperature. It is basic physics. Connect the dots, the operating system uses up more battery with this camera (it is a huge advancement) but cause heat. That effects the battery. Read the comments about projected shots and actual performance. Also, what does Nikon have to do with the issue? I have had 6 Sony cameras, none with this issue.
Ive been saving up for an a7IV for a long time to replace my Canon 6D full frame camera and to ho along with my 3 APSC Sony bodies (a6500,a6000, NEX-7) but now I may have to rethink about that and maybe get the a7Cii instead and use the savings on a Sigma i-series prime lens. Im used to and love the smaller form factor hence why I dont shoot my Canon DSLRs anymore and have used my APSC Sony bodies 99% if the time since I got my first Sony. Just wish they put the a6700 grip on the A7Cii as afterall the A7Cii IS a Full frame camera which means BIGGER glass which needs a bigger grip. Sony wasnt thinking there.

Sure it is the kit lens but when introduced that lens was a $500 lens so it has the same qualities as the others (double linear auto-focusing motors) and covers all the focal lengths of street photography. These lenses range from ~$200 for the 28-60 to $400+ for the other three used from either MPB or KEH. LIke new used a7c is $1500 from the same resellers.
Current A7CI owner, the lack of focus breathing compensation is killing me with a lot of these G Master primes. That is the key feature I would be upgrading for, so the question is, should I go for this camera or the cheaper ZV-E1?
Well unless you need 4K60 I would pick the a7c because, IMO, the a6700 and the a7c and a7cII are the same size and weight as the a6700 and if I was going to carry around a camera as heavy as the a6700 I would carry a full frame. I do own the A7iv and A7RV but I want to keep those for client and event work so I thought an A7cii would be a great idea for holidays, parties and family shots ETA. So I pre-ordered the A7Cii.
Why wouldn't you just buy the A7iv? I can't understand why people won't allow small cameras to exist. The A7Cii grip is already too big. Look at something like the OM-5 or X100V. That's a good size. If you're going to use large heavy lenses why on earth would you buy a compact camera? There are models made for exactly that.
Arthur, great review. I believe if you're going for it is because weight and size compared with A7IV, even if it is just slighter. Then, the grip is made for small and light lenses, which there are plenty in the market. Why don't you review some of them, which are the best ones? The it will make a very great travel minimalist package.
I just got the A6700 and now consider to switch 4:20 to the new A7Cii. What would be your recommendation? Both bodies are much the same, but full frame comes with better details, contrast and bouquet
I think Sony just killed the ZV-E1 unless they lower the price to $1700 or less. I mean really dynamic stability is all it’s got to go on. For me going from the ZV-E10 to the a6700 was like hitting the light speed button. I can’t see going to a the a7C II because it would just be the full frame version of the a6700. When I do go full frame I will want to go next level. The camera body is just a box that takes pictures, the lenses are the real star of the show and will be with you a lot longer I think.
Ergonomically I like the A6700 more. Performance is similar, I’d say 4k60 out of the A6700 looks better to me. The A7CII is a nice camera if you want a small hybrid full frame. But for me the price:performance ratio is stronger with the A6700.
I have been using the A7C and ZV-E1. So I am thinking of the A7CII but at my local camera store a used A7SIII is selling for $2700. What do you think? Cheers!
I've had an A7II and A6000 for about 6 years now. Just for the fun of it, if I upgraded to an A7IV, A7CII or the A6700, how big of a difference would it be? I've only been watching reviews like this on YT on newer stuff, so I really have no clue how good the tech has become, like in my own hands.
I am upgrading from the a6000 and have seen a massive difference with the a6700. The grip is better, the colors, performance, everything is such a huge upgrade. I'm currently debating between a7c and a6700 because the improvements on the a7cii doesn't seem worth (to me anyway) to pay extra.

This new camera seems to be the way to go when looking for a travel camera, where your walking all day with it, climbing through historical monuments, only have a second to capture an immage you find and such. So, some discussion on this type of shooting with this A7cII camera weight, size, performance, immage capture speed, all need to be talked about further, appreciated perhaps. The eye cup does look small… I have been traveling the world, China, Europe, Asia and further using a Nikon Z7, a real reliable hammer of a camera, but I always use and like the features of Sony video cameras, look forward to integrating these advanced focus and other features into my still photography. Maybe have a comparison of software ease of use and performance points as mentioned between Nikon and Sony?
I got one and im impressed, Iwas not impressed with Sony a7c when it came out and I tried that one and sent it back, this one makes sense to me, from colors to the weight, also the big bodies are really not making sense anymore, since we all using phones now, and its just phones became our daily life, one sd card is really not an issue, its a mature version of the Sony a7c.

For a beginner which would be better to get. This Camera or the A6700?I do plan on jumping to full frame if i do go for apsc after 3 years ish but wanted to know if i can just jump in straight away!
jump in straight away to full frame with something older and upgrade the body later. use the savings to get good lenses as the lens is what makes the result as good as they are nowadays and the sensors haven’t been upgraded that much in the last 8 years.
Don't underestimate the power of the A6700, says Darth Vader. Believe me, or not, the a6700 is the most incredible body I've ever owned, save for my 1979 Nikon F2A. But that is ancient history. I am getting superior photos chasing bees and blossoms, thanks to the A7R5 focusing system. The 26mp sensor gave me fantastic pictures full of great detail. I think most of us are pros, making pictures that will billboards, but mostly for Instagram, fakebook, etc., where super high resolution is a waste. If we are not going to take still and print them to anything larger than 11x14 inches, the a6700 will do great. Since I am not into doing videos, that's where you have to research and everything I've seen, the a6700 is no slouch. Just consider the smaller sensor when making videos in very low light. As for those who push FF, I have both and I will take my a6700 with me to events over the FF, mainly because of the bulk and weight. I get no better pictures with an FF body. And here is the But of Buts. If you want high res pictures or video, then don't cheap out and get the A7CR for that magnificent 61mp sensor. Otherwise, the a6700 26mp sensor is fantastic. Arther really needs to do a video pitting the A7CII against the a6700.

Unfortunately pricing in Australia puts this $200 above the A7 IV at about $3300, which is pretty crazy for a supposedly entry level FF. I guess they expect people who want something cheaper to go to the used market.
Your camera may be 1 year old, but the a7iv was released two years ago... hard to improve autofocus with a firmware update since the a7cii has a separate chip for the AI autofocus
If one has full frame lenses compatible with Sony FE mount and has an older SLR or a first generation Sony FE it might be worth it. I’m invested in the a6500 and APSC lenses so I don’t see any reason to upgrade other than size and I want to go to full frame. If I were to upgrade I would probably go with the a6700. Good first review. Photos of your wife looked really good on my iPad screen. So we know it takes excellent photos. What lens/lenses were you using on the AC7ii?
Hey Denny! I too have the original a7C. I too am looking to upgrade my B camera. A6700 or A7Cii??? I have been scouring the Internet all week and would have loved to get the a6700 as it is considerably cheaper! I am now heavily leaning towards the a7Cii for one reason only. OVERHEATING on the aps-c camera😤. Trust me I have looked at dozens of sites and reviews. I do long form events like theatre plays, choir concerts etc that can last up to 1 and half hours. Lots of testimonials out there saying you can shoot 4K 30p or 60P for 30 minutes or 45 minutes or an hour maybe before the heat warning on the a6700 comes on. I can’t have that happen! Apparently the ACii does way better so I might have to fork out the extra $$$. 😅 DENNY what is your opinion on this as you just upgraded??? Does your new camera overheat?
Which lens you will suggest for the a7cii? I basically only shoot for photography and i am thinking about a 50mm lens which there are a lot for e mount, eg sigma 50 f2. I dont know if the sigma 50 f2 is good enough in term of image quality. Or other lens like zeiss, or even 1.4 GM
I’m currently using the a6000 with the 30&56mm lens from the sigma trio I usually take pictures only but probably shoot a few videos in the future should i upgrade to the a6700 or a7c2? Or should i just keep my a6000?
I’m upgrading from A7R. I’ll probably go for the A7R IV… I’m a little concerned with the A7CII mechanical shutter and lack of grip. I shoot mostly using a Tokina 85mm F1.8
I sold my A7IV and ordered the A7CII (same color you demoed), this coupled with the A7RV , best combo I can think of ....Arthur, my only concern is the CII EVF , how would you say that compare with the 7IV for practical use (I can read the specs, but I can't figure out I my mind how good/bad it is ), the A7C EVF, for me, is useless. That video of you and your wife entering the restaurant is really good, what lens did you use ? (I understood that was hand held?) ....
Does a7cii support HDR-mode for stills? I am asking, because latest sony cameras a7m4, a6700 lost HDR-mode, and I am fear, that sony decide to drop computational photo features at all.
How about the USB-C port? Can you attach a wired intervalometer? (cant with A7C which I have). Or does the internal intervalometer support 30+ second exposures using the new menu?
Moving from APS-C to FF I am on the fence between building A7IV or A7C Il, I love compact size but heard that beefier size is better for ergonomics, stabilising and looks more professional. Would my best option to get A7C lI and buy a battery grip so it gets bulkier similar to A7IV and I can remove it anytime for travel ? Btw I will use prime lenses with it mostly for most bokeh
I don't get why Sony skimped on the grip. That was the biggest issue with the old a7c for me. They had a much nicer grip already on smaller cameras like the a6600 and a6700. I'm not interested in the most compact camera. I'm interested in a good rangefinder style camera. I'd be happy with a slightly bigger camera if it meant getting a nicer grip, and bigger evf, and maybe more space between the fingers and lens mount.
Debating between a7c II or a7 IV I don’t care about cII only having one sd card slot. Which do you think would be best in the long run to grow into it (amateur skill right now) will use for photography and video
It has bokeh limitations on portrait right? And it doesn’t do well under artificial lights ( because of not having the same mechanical shutter as Sony A7 IV )
Canon r8 is a full frame camera at just 1500usd and i think it makes a lot more sense than the a7cii and the a6700. R8 pros: +No 4k60 crop +Best auto focus +Canon color science +Full frame @1500usd The only down side to the r8 is the lack of fast lens at affordable prices.
Basically an expensive paperweight that can only take pure white photos with the mount cap off. Until Canon has the same lens ecosystem as Sony, it's useless to have cheap bodies. For the price of an RF 24-70 one can get a full trinity f2.8 lineup used on Sony.
Canon is on my naughty list for dead ending the EF-M lenses and cameras in favor of "RF" lenses and "R" body cameras, and then threatening legal action against any manufacturer that makes a lens that will fit the Canon "R" body camera, so there are no third party lenses available for Canon R body cameras.
Arthur, so if you need to do some 4k 60 with the 1.5 times crop is something like the fx30 or a6700 much better with 4k 60 as it is already a crop sensor?
Can you replace the eye cup? That was one gripe I had with the original A7c. The lack of eye cup combined with the tiny evf meant using the evf in bright sunlight was miserable if you couldn't smash your face against the camera just right.
My review units didn’t come with eye cups, and it’s missing the little slots for them, so I don’t think these new cameras are compatible with them. Which is a shame.
Is there other similar lens of the 20-70mm F4 lens of Sony FF E mount lens that's from Ultra wide to tele? I want that focal lengths but seem like only that lens provide that range isn't it?
I think there is a market for cameras that dont look big. If you pull out a a74 in a party people will think you are a photographer. It draws too much attention. The A7CII looks cute and takes good pictures, it is the kind of camera that everyone wants to get their hands on. The pros will certainly pick the A74 instead for all the rational reasons.
Ughhh, the grip! It's so weird that both the A6600 and A6700 have significantly better grips than these cameras. I had the A7C for a few months but flipped it to upgrade to the A7IV mainly for the ergonomics. I miss the smaller body size when paired with the small Samyang primes that I have, but my hands are just too big for the tiny grip. I did find a cold shoe thumb rest that really helped me feel more secured with the A7C.
Thanks! Will be nice to see A7Cii and a6700 comparison - image quality, low light, video etc
Good move imo from Sony, price and size are important factors in the decision making when picking a camera. Sony is making a camera for each niche.
It’s absolutely hilarious when people complain that on the compact camera you don’t have enough grip… Yeah, it’s a compact camera.
At some point, these cameras will literally be a huge hand grip with a lens mount and THAT'S IT. :)
Crazy release day.
I have and love my A6400 and love the smaller APS-C size. This is calling me.
will be a great companion to your a6400. I have the a6500, a6000 and NEX-7 and am thinking about getting the A7Cii to be my full frame as I dont use my Canon 6D full frame anymore and need to sell it and upgrade. Was saving for the A7IV but maybe now....
As a long time A7C user, the only improvements I am look for are:
#1) improved color science
#2) improved F-stop w/ IBIS
#3) improved dynamic range
Anything else is gravy. If it has those improvement and is anywhere close to price of an A7C, it's a done deal.
get it and its a big imporvement, if I compare the 2, its like comparing apples to oranges.
How about 10-bit 4:2:2 and front wheel
Yes front wheel, 10 bit 422, AI chip, better grip, more MP’s, S-Cinetone, better colour science, streaming over USB-C, brighter better EVF, better IBIS. LOTS of improvements over the original which I own. Wish I had the money to upgrade!
@@Pfagnan Same here, the only thing I concern is whether it can streams 3 hours without overheating/shutdown (with dummy battery) or no
really dont forget about the ai autofocus its crazy good and what i sometimes miss on my a7c
A7C II seems like an awesome camera for sure. I almost waited for it but found a good deal on a used A7IV and have no regrets (coming from a Fuji XT4)
I rented an A7C alongside the A7IV and the size wasn’t so significantly smaller that it changed the way I shoot or how i felt about taking the camera places. What did make a big difference though was the grip, the MUCH larger EVF, and the customizable buttons on the A7IV.
How was the switch from fuji xt4 to a7iv? I currently have xt3, i want to upgrade but really hard too choose.
I’ll break it down a little more:
I have essentially set up the A7IV to be used exactly how I used my Fuji: front dial for Aperture, rear dial for shutter speed, push the focus joystick to choose focus area, press down to activate deactivate IBIS, etc. it had a dedicated video switch like the Fuji did, and saves your video settings like the Fuji did, so I have that all set up the same too.
The Fuji wasn’t bad, but for example when I handed the camera to my wife on vacation, it missed many shots vs the Sony just gets them (she doesn’t know how to use them fully yet)
Otherwise, it’s the same thing you hear from everyone else, the difference in depth of field is nice, low light, etc.
Better grip on the A6700 than on the A7cII, that's unexpected :)
Both cameras are great.
A7siii has an amazing EVF. The shrunk one has none.
You meant *ZVE1.

Arthur could you please make a video, Sony A6700 vs Sony A7CII ?
A7CII and A7CR are full frame cameras. A6700 is APS-C camera. It really depends on your specific needs. I prefer A6700 which is good enough for me.
I think the a7cii is the way forward.
whats good is you can still use your APSC glass on the full frame A7Cii (with less MP of course) but ...
Excited to finally update from my A6000 to the A7C II
I was sitting tight waiting on these announcement. After reading and watching a few reviews, I decided to go with an A6700 as a second body to my kit.
I absolutely love my A7cII! great colors, great AF, love the size and weight.
I definitely will be upgrading from the a7c to the a7cii.
The a7cR, while nice, I can't justify the price for what you get over the a7cii.
you also prob couldnt justify the extra cost in a faster/more powerful PC with more RAM and CPU to be able to edit those 61 MP files nor the extra $ to buy all those extra hard drives to STORE all those 61 MP RAW files.
Yes, same confusion. Have to buy in a week. Spending 800$ more for a7c-ii is it worth it over a6700.
I’m considering upgrading my a6300. Would be awesome to get a6700 vs a7cii video from Arthur!
I'm also waiting for that video
@@mlhm5 Not a7c II????

Same. I’m waiting for this comparison regarding the image quality difference. I already know body differences
You told me all I need to know. I’m looking to go full frame and this will be adequate. Great video.
Excellent review Arthur 👊
The grip is exactly right size, others are critisizing the big grip of the A6700, which is contradictory to the idea of having small compact cameras.
can you do a comparison of the a6700 an Sony A7CII now that both are out?
Hi Arthur, great video! I would personally be interested in a comparison of the A7C ii (with the 20-70 F4) and the A6700 (with the 16-55 F 2.8) in terms of image quality, autofocus and video. A duel of the travel cameras... I own the 16-55 F 2.8 with the A6400 and am considering upgrading to either the A6700 or the full-frame system (mainly because of the points of comparison).
I have the same request, same reason!
Now I'm in the process of find the limits and differences:
- I bought the 20-70F4 ... and yes, the true is it's double price.
Overheating is overrated
There is a reason why Sony makes so many skews of their cameras. You are barking up the wrong tree if you are buying a Sony "R" camera for video.

Just wish they put the a6700 grip on the A7Cii as afterall the A7Cii IS a Full frame camera which means BIGGER glass which needs a bigger grip. Sony wasnt thinking there.
M43 thinking of going Sony, Full frame lenses are still the deal breaker price and weight wise. I like the 6700 a lot.

As you said, I would like the bigger grip and a better viewfinder. I wouldn't mind spending more if they gave us those features. Great video , thanks

Well unless you need 4K60 I would pick the a7c because, IMO, the a6700 and the a7c and a7cII are the same size and weight as the a6700 and if I was going to carry around a camera as heavy as the a6700 I would carry a full frame. Secondly if you are a street shooter, vacation shooter, and the like, Sony made special small/tiny, lightweight fast focusing, tack sharp and pocketable lenses for the a7c - the 24mm f/2.8 and the 40mm and 50mm f/2.5 plus the 28-60mm f/4-5.6 zoom. No question the original a7c is, IMO, the best street/vacation/all around combo available unless you need 4K60 or want to use big heavy lens on the a7c, then just buy a Sony a7iv.
Will this have a advantage over the A7C R as well when it comes to lowlight photography?
It should do yes.
Larger pixels normally mean better lowlight.
I have both A7c and A7cii my only complaint with A7cii is how fast it drains battery
This vs the a6700 please
Unfortunately pricing in Australia puts this $200 above the A7 IV at about $3300, which is pretty crazy for a supposedly entry level FF. I guess they expect people who want something cheaper to go to the used market.
In Spain the A7RIV is 1880€ and the A7CII is 1900€. I think I’m going for the A7RIV because of the grip.
I am going to sell my old Sony a7iv to buy this new a7Cii. It’s sad I have to do this to get the latest autofocus system on my 1 year old camera……
Your camera may be 1 year old, but the a7iv was released two years ago... hard to improve autofocus with a firmware update since the a7cii has a separate chip for the AI autofocus
You should add a link for the A7CII
If one has full frame lenses compatible with Sony FE mount and has an older SLR or a first generation Sony FE it might be worth it. I’m invested in the a6500 and APSC lenses so I don’t see any reason to upgrade other than size and I want to go to full frame. If I were to upgrade I would probably go with the a6700. Good first review. Photos of your wife looked really good on my iPad screen. So we know it takes excellent photos. What lens/lenses were you using on the AC7ii?
Awesome video ! How is the image stabilization for stills )not video) compared to A6700 or older A6600 ?
I upgraded to the Mark 2 from the original, and am very happy that I did. No regrets whatsoever.
DENNY what is your opinion on this as you just upgraded??? Does your new camera overheat?
Which lens you will suggest for the a7cii? I basically only shoot for photography and i am thinking about a 50mm lens which there are a lot for e mount, eg sigma 50 f2.
I dont know if the sigma 50 f2 is good enough in term of image quality. Or other lens like zeiss, or even 1.4 GM
I’m currently using the a6000 with the 30&56mm lens from the sigma trio
I usually take pictures only but probably shoot a few videos in the future
should i upgrade to the a6700 or a7c2?
Or should i just keep my a6000?
You should upgrade only for video, for photo a6000 is good enough, imo.
Upgrading from A7iii. Can't decide between this and A7CR. I want the extra pixels but this one is so great for a much better price. 🤔
(I understood that was hand held?) ....
planning to upgrade from 6400, should I go for a6700 or a7cii? I'm more photo oriented
Can you explain more about 4k 60fps maybe better in 6700? Is the same story for a7iv?
This camera has a 1.5X crop in 4k60. So you are getting less resolution (megapixels) than the A6700 which in 4k60 is using all 26 megapixels.
@ArthurR thank you, I never thought about this. I only exclusively shoot 4k 60fps so now I need to really consider 6700 as suppose to a7cii
@@ArthurRwhat about rolling shutter, a6700 vs a7Cii
Dope! if I had money for one, one day when I think to switch to sony, fujifilm xs10 is for me rn
Picking up tomorrow 😊
I really want to see how the EFS affects the bokeh.
The original a7c is still just perfect for me.
My thoughts too for a photo-centric shooter
@@bradl2636 Same!
Debating between a7c II or a7 IV
I don’t care about cII only having one sd card slot.
Which do you think would be best in the long run to grow into it (amateur skill right now) will use for photography and video
A7cii bro
It has bokeh limitations on portrait right? And it doesn’t do well under artificial lights ( because of not having the same mechanical shutter as Sony A7 IV )
Hi Arthur I want to upgrade my a6400, I am getting almost the same price for a7c and a6700 which one can I get
Canon r8 is a full frame camera at just 1500usd and i think it makes a lot more sense than the a7cii and the a6700.
R8 pros:
+No 4k60 crop
+Best auto focus
+Canon color science
+Full frame @1500usd
The only down side to the r8 is the lack of fast lens at affordable prices.
Basically an expensive paperweight that can only take pure white photos with the mount cap off. Until Canon has the same lens ecosystem as Sony, it's useless to have cheap bodies. For the price of an RF 24-70 one can get a full trinity f2.8 lineup used on Sony.
No IBIS on the R8 is a pretty big downside for most users.
Lack of IBIS & the small battery are bummers with the R8
I am 7c owner and thinking to upgrade, I just wondering if 10bit make a lot of difference for video ?
Not much you wont see any difference
Arthur, so if you need to do some 4k 60 with the 1.5 times crop is something like the fx30 or a6700 much better with 4k 60 as it is already a crop sensor?
Which lens used in this video?
Can you replace the eye cup? That was one gripe I had with the original A7c. The lack of eye cup combined with the tiny evf meant using the evf in bright sunlight was miserable if you couldn't smash your face against the camera just right.
My review units didn’t come with eye cups, and it’s missing the little slots for them, so I don’t think these new cameras are compatible with them. Which is a shame.
does it have shutter closed feature to protect sensor when it is turned off like a7iv?
does the sony a7cii heat up and shut down when recording at 4k60fps?
Does this have 4k 120p? The a6700 does, albeit with a big crop.
This plus a travel zoom looks great for motorsports where they don't allow "pro"-looking gear.
Is there other similar lens of the 20-70mm F4 lens of Sony FF E mount lens that's from Ultra wide to tele? I want that focal lengths but seem like only that lens provide that range isn't it?
I have a7iv I would like the a7cll have the joystick and will be perfect!
does it have clean hdmi output?
I think there is a market for cameras that dont look big. If you pull out a a74 in a party people will think you are a photographer. It draws too much attention. The A7CII looks cute and takes good pictures, it is the kind of camera that everyone wants to get their hands on. The pros will certainly pick the A74 instead for all the rational reasons.
I pull out any mirror less camera and people think I'm a professional photographer because everyone uses their phones to take pics
Will is the a7c still worth it for 1450$ now ?
When you are mentioning about the autofocus improvements.... you seem to be quoting the numbers provided by Sony.
There’s no way to demonstrate it. The autofocus on the A7C is already amazing. This camera is faster and more accurate by certain percentages.
Agreed! I don’t understand that decision from Sony.
Do these cameras work for left eye dominant people? Or is it weird to use?
Would be a little tougher than a larger body camera with the EVF in the middle I think.
Hi bro is the ai tracking for video working when connected to an external monitor
I’m going to have to wait for a year for the A7CR to go on sale because I like to crop my pictures I think it’s the perfect travel and street camera
Which camera and lens release 2 weeks ago are you talking about in the intro?
Sony a6700 and Sony 70-200mm f4 g oss Macro
Shame that the EVF mag is still not that great. I might stick with my ZV-E1.
