I don’t watch this stuff for the gear reviews any longer. John is one cool dude and I like watching him play. Seems like the guy you just want jam with all the time!!
Fear reviews? No idea what you're talking about
@@valuedhumanoid6574 lol. Thanks for points that out.
I only clicked because it is an MXR...
AND John has great hair 😂.
Man what a great demo! More John!! I wish I didn't see this because now I want to buy one of these. :-)
I love it! MXR has always been a favorite of mine. I have had dozens of them. My prized possession is an original 1974 MXR Phase 90 script model. The same one EVH used and made famous. The Carbon Copy is as good of delay as you can get. I am heading to my local shop this afternoon and see if these are even out yet. I will own it soon!
It’ll be released this coming October! But you probably already know that by now. 🤘👽🎸
@@Thurston86 No, I didn't. But thanks for the info. I checked a couple places and it was preorder only. So that made me aware it wasn't available. Now I know!
Just pre-ordered the pedal. Was told I'd get it end of September. Can't wait.
wow , that is now on the list. Thank you John and PG.
to my ears, I like the overdrive the best with your amp and guitar setup but they all 3 sound pretty good. Killer playing as always!
Was in NashviIIe Iast month and saw John playing in one of the clubs there.Sounding good John.
Great demo, John. Sounds like a winner, I prefer not having to open the back and change pots anyway.
had a Duke on pre-order for a while. It came in and has found a spot downstream of a Timmy and Tumnus Deluxe. I'm REALLY liking this Duke. Great stacking pedal.
WOW make Playing look fun John Thank you for all you do
Love that Pro Reverb! Another great one, John.
Always a great start to a day !
Great detail review. Nice pedal. Love, the sister, Rosetta Tharpe poster.
I just wanna say as a former Arkansan, I stan for that Sister Rosetta Tharpe poster in the background. Thanks for reviewing this one, John! I appreciate you using both a Humbuggie and single coil guitar on this. I'm mostly a tele player so that helped.
Love John's reviews - very "real world" and not all tidied up post production. This one a a great case in point - you actually HEAR the difference the pedal makes, including the kick in volume, and frankly there's nothing about this pedal which would encourage me to buy it, despite the massive hype surrounding it (and that is with a HUGE thanks to John!! 😎👍)
Was looking forward to seeing that guitar in the thumbnail - the 336 is great too though. Gr8 playing
Same. Click bait Bohlinger
Killer tone and chops. Nice work
Just wanted to tell you John, thanks for the rig rundown of Bonamassa!
That was a fun one. Thanks
Can we talk about that Sister Rosetta Tharpe print??? John. You just gained extra credit for that shit.
Love your demos John! Such a rad guy. Much love from the U.K. 🙌
That 336 is a sweet axe, John!
Awesome!
Amazing
Brilliant move by MXR and Analogman. I hear that the waiting list for a King of Tone was like 5 years or something. This will be the best selling overdrive pedal very shortly, MXR gets a bag, Analogman gets a bag, distributors get a bag, we get an amazing pedal. Overall W!
I was looking forward to this demo when I heard that this pedal was coming. It actually reminds me a lot of the T-Rex Møller, which is a surprisingly great pedal, very underrated. Anyway, MXR will probably get my money here.
I really really love the moller. Such an Underrated pedal. Nobody ever talks about it.
@@allstopblue5717 The Moller2 is super good. Less mids and the blend function make it great. I don't think I'll fall for this tho...I'm sure it's a quality pedal but I have way too many pedals now that sound....the same.
@@rockerz57 I hear you. I’m a sucker for overdrive pedals. Especially “transparent overdrives” I have to admit. I was finally getting ready to buy a Greer Lightspeed after all these years. And then this is about to come out. Idk. Haha I probably will wait until it’s out to hear real reviews not paid adverts. I do find it smart for MXR to partner with a “boutique” pedal maker.
So, a lot of magic with the King of Tone is when they are stacked together. I wonder how two of these stacked together, one set to boost and one to overdrive or distortion would do?
Yes, Analog Man says the circuit is the same as one half of a KoT. Stacking makes a KoT.
But you’ll always have placebo tone connoisseurs telling you it’s way different than that KoT they heard one time.
As with the MXR Timmy the only thing that looks missplaced is the status led. Besides that I have had (as many other people) trouble with the input jack with the Timmy, which had to be replaced. I hope this doesn´t have the same problem, cause I´m planning on getting it too
First 20 seconds I thought, wow, that pedal is crazy good, what a sound. Then it was revealed, it’s John on guitar… so obviously it sounds killer. 😂
Cool gibson!
Wonderful playing, wonderful tone. To be honest I cannot tell much difference in the OD, Boost, and Distortion settings. I think this is a 'set it and forget it' peddle. Beautiful tone.
I think it's just difficult to tell over a phone speaker with an amp at relatively low volume. You should be able to notice the difference in person.
Dude, I love this pedal. How many watts is it? Is it true or false bypass? Asking for a friend
Watching John do gear reviews makes me want to throw my guitars into a pile and start a bonfire...
Great picking
Could you tell me where you prefer to use this pedal in your chain?? I was thinking it might be best as an “always-on” pre amp at the end of my chain of overdrives??
I always hit the like before watching any of John's videos.
Always a fantastic demo video.
Where this pedal also shines. A JMP with some grit on it. Duke of tone adds a nice amp like boost. Sounds more natural in marshall land. Because it all about uncompressed mids.
Want more compression. Go into distortion mode.
Oct expected arrival.
😎👍
What brand of vibrato arm is on your Gibson ES-336? Thanks.
I think this is a sign I’m supposed to get the Gibson es 345.
Indeed
Over the years, I've run through all of the major OD circuit types, including the more obscure. Can't say that I favour certain circuits, but there are a couple specific builders I've stayed with (prob why my main OD became the Hudson Broadcast soon after it's release.).For example, I tried and sold a Klon, but I kept the Bondi Sick As.
I never felt the KOT, but I do like this particular copy; all in all, in the affordable category I'd go with the Way Huge STO, but it is all about individual preferences, right? Just like everyone has a diff idea of colour( or are color blind), we can't account for what other's are hearing. There are, no doubt, some damn unpleasant shades of orange; but there are some great shades as well.
And that simple fact is lost on many.
Nice compression at the overdrive.
Sorry @Premier Guitar, Is that true?
Not for nothing but I believe it goes for $149 rather than $99. Still a killer deal on a great pedal but that's the price I've seen (Sweetwater).
Is that a Gb 339 with a Dues Les trem?
I think it s a 336. and yes, I just put that Duezz whammy on
Nice pedal but better playing👍
I have Serious GUITAR😖FACE from watching this! I Neeeeeeeed that pedal!🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
Would this stack well with a Morning Glory?
No, too similar 👍
I'm sorry but making John demo a new product just isn't fair, the guy could make elastic bands on a 2x4 sound good
It's more than fair. Practice instead of watching gear vids.
Bro what the hell are you talking about. That's like telling you to stop replying to comments and go practice
Except I'm not complaining about not being good enough, you are.
I'm not doing that, I paying him a compliment you clown. On the one hand I can play everything John can play in this video, it's no where near high level stuff. On the other hand even if john isn't playing his best here (nor does he have to) I'm still giving him the compliment because he's a great player
@@joshualessore7652 That's cool
Curious how this would stack up to the Greer Lightspeed for the low/mid gain boost. Plan to stack gains - thanks.
Well, the Greer isn’t a Bluesbreaker circuit, is it?
They’d probably stack very well, but I thought the Lightspeed was more of a Timmy clone. They’d probably get the same jobs done, just a bit differently.
@@CorbCorbin - that's a fair point. Guess its not apples to apples.
I just saw it as interesting for a transparent OD/boost option - similar to something like the Lightspeed - with some added ability (the distortion switch is interesting too).
I own an og analogman KOT and often stack a greer lightspeed into it, sounds incredible so i imagine this would too. Perfect chime with a little mid push, great combo
@@CorbCorbin the Lightspeed is NOT a Timmy clone, it’s completely different. It’s hard to describe the Lightspeed tone but it’s more transparent than a Timmy and has less mids, more open and has a different feel under the fingers as well.
Thanks @@justinguitarcia - do you have a preference for base tone? I already have a couple other ODs I like (Plumes, Soul Food) so want a transparent OD as a base tone.
I just returned mine after a couple of days of trying to figure it out. I just couldn't vibe with it. It sounded kind of fizzy. The touch response was probably my favourite part about it, but my Wampler Belle is a far better overdrive in my opinion. To each their own!
Where do I order one?
Prolly Sweetwater.
nice breakup tone...simple and clear...kinda ac dc
Can someone PLEASE explain the “Duke of Tone “ to me?? I waited 4 months for it; plugged it in with my band and HATED it!!! I was using a tele and a modded Dr. Z ZLUX; the DOT pedal sounds harsh and SO nasal and midrangey to my ears……. I had to remove it and return to my Keeley modded BD2 (which has always sounded awesome). I don’t get it - never tried a real King of Tone pedal, but I don’t think this pedal will work for me!!
I'm sorry but I don't understand why OD pedals are pitched as clean boosts, too. Who is going to buy this pedal to use as a boost?
ES-336, 337, whatever it takes. When will the peasant of tone come out? lol
Add to Cart
The kot is my favorite pedal of all time but i only own two and really wouldnt want to lose one on a fly date so having this available for a b rig rules. I can let the kots chill a bit finally lol
You hoarder!
Didnt see that coming, wonder if it took time away from the people that are willing to wait 4 years odd for one of the proper ones lol
Great demo, but ... it always irks me when the demo equipment is stuff almost no one owns. What does this sound like with a widely-owned guitar through an amp many people own? That'd be a better demo... IMHO...
MXR make a pedal that makes me sound like John
Ace Ventura forever
Ace Ventura : Guitar Aficionado
That never gets old.
Shit…just when I was finally getting around to purchasing a Greer Lightspeed. Yes I know they’ve been available for many years. But I was just about to buy one when multiple videos start popping up for this thing. Idk. This is $50 -$60 cheaper and I know they’re different pedals. But this does sound good from what I’ve heard. Ahhhh. I literally was just ready to finally buy a lightspeed. I don’t have a ton of disposable income. I feel like this can get close to what the light speed offers? But then also offers more and is cheaper, at least now at the preorder price. Then again this could be just great advertising and hype. Idk
I love my light speed but I would go with this before you get the light speed I think you can get a wider range of tones with this pedal.
Buy two of them and you'll pretty much have a KOT.
Forget about guitar stuff. I want to know about John’s diet. He’s ripped
Duke Duke Duke Duke of tone tone tone.
waiting for the DOD jester of tone
kot
pot

?
Countess of Tone and it’s just two of these in series with independently switchable circuits
Waiting for the Mooer Peasant of Tone
@@waitin4winter You beat me to it!
I’m looking for the incredibly cheap Knave of Tone
Bollinger is a B4dd4$$! love his reviews.
Small pedals are awesome
It's actually $149.00..
Cool but you can get an actual POT off Analogman for the same price. Great playing John
But you have to wait 5 years to get it.
Reverb listing average over $250 and the site price is $150 with a 2+ years wait. This is $99 available every/anytime. Let me know when you find your $99 POT tho.
@@ethansharp8815 Anderton's has a preorder listed with a price of about $215.
@@KeithShelley1 The PG article linked in the description says, "Two clipping modes stretch the possibilities of a drive that sounds and feels way more expensive than 99 bucks." Thats on them if it's more than that.
Y'all haven't read the website obviously. It only took me 2 weeks of doing what it said on the day it said to get my prince of tone. Last month off Analog Man for $149
While I've already got an AM KOT, I think I might get this for my smaller boards where a KOT takes too much real estate. The price point will make buying 2 to get a makeshift KOT seem like a bargain.
I was thinking the same
The pedal market is massively (no pun intended) over saturated. Also every guitar channel is covering this simultaneously.
Typically MXR the Volume Knob does not have enough Reserves to the right. Why do they often do that? At 12 O clock must be unity. Period.
99 bucks? Sweetwater says $149
Electric lamps are open at the top so they can shed heat and not catch on fire. Be careful with that hat and rock on!
Looking like the "Doctor Sleep"hat..
that trem looks very breakable :
Do you really think a 129 USD can sound like a 400 USD one ? Well....not me .....🙄
Sound's like any other pedal
It's all in the salesmanship.
Too bad it doesn't have a 9v battery option. I don't like using power supply on drive pedals. Bummer.
How hipster of you lol
You could use something like a GigRig Virtual Battery.
Then get one of the other two: KOT/POT
Yeah the og still exists. This was made as a literal compromise to get it out to the masses but you can still get a POT. Im super happy i got both the kot and pot before the massive waitlists
Puke of bone!
