  • I installed the valved exhaust system from Soul Performance Products on the Cayman and boy do I love it! Not that the Carnewal was bad, but this is definitely a step up!

Did this on my 987.1. Sound, performance, fit, and finish as described. Thanks. Only note to add I put the exhaust hangar clamps on the hanging brackets while the pipes were on the ground and fitted it all after I got the captured bolt and spacer clamped down a little. Made it super easy to use a c-clamp to get the assembly cinched down before installing in the car.

Like some others have said, I put the hanger clamps on the pipes while they are off the car, it was much easier than what was shown in Cliff's excellent video. I also put the brackets on the car before putting the exhaust in the car, which also made it easier. It wasn't a problem to put the system in the car with the brackets already installed.

I installed the SOUL comp headers, catback system and Softtronics map on my 2010 987.2 Boxster three years ago and, WOW, what a difference in sound and performance. It’s what the flat six is supposed to sound like and so much fun to drive. John Gaydos and the guys at Soul did the installation at their shop in North Philly…super customer service. I added a Numerics shifter and cables, sourced from Soul along the way, superb. 20k miles later, the system still looks and performs great.
Thanks for a great video, agree with your comments…can’t go wrong with Soul Performance.

I'm looking to buy one of these. Your channel is a one stop shop on everything I'll need. Throughly enjoying your content. Maybe I'll see you at a Porsche event someday in my new ride haha

Be sure to check out the video I did on the catless competition headers. That is the best mod I've done so far. Just be aware that it's *loud* :)

I rented a 981 on Turo for a week and now I have an itching to buy a cayman/boxster. Yours looks so nice in blue and that exhaust sounds heavenly

Great way to compare and contrast exhaust notes. Thanks Cliff! I use your videos often because I just bought a 987.2 and am slowly working my way through maintanance, repairs and modding. They all have been very useful. I had a Cayman R three years ago, learned alot of this stuff then, and promptly forgot it all when I sold it. I could not stay away from the Cayman and recently bought a 2011 S. Love it. So much car for a very fair price.
    Take care,
    Michael

Very nice and comprehensive video! Top of the 3rd gear in the 3.4 9A1 is a thing from the heavens. Pretty much a narcotic dose, I prescribe it to myself when I'm down, cheers!

I agree, it's a beautiful sound. Next up is replacing the exhaust manifolds with catless race headers! I can't wait to hear *that*!

I have an 987.2 CS PDK with the Soul valved exhaust and the Soul catted header setup, installed by the previous owner. I don't find any drone with this setup in my car. I've had cars that droned (most recently my previous modified C6 Z06 with catless long tubes with the stock valved exhaust, which droned like crazy when open and somewhat when closed). I don't find any drone open or close at any RPM.
As for open vs closed, I don't find it makes enough of a difference. Yes, it is a little quieter closed, but not much. On my Z06, it was a massive difference. On this, the sound output is only slightly cut and really just makes the car sound worse, so I never close it.
Lastly, I want to mention price. My setup sells from Soul for $8500 shipped. That is a massive amount of money for a stainless steel exhaust. The headers are nothing compllicated, nor is the catback. Again, I'll go back to my comparison of my Z06 (where you pay the Corvette tax for Vette specific aftermarket parts), and a very good valved aftermarket catback is ~ $2000, and there is more to it than in the Cayman. Quality stainless catted headers are another ~$2300. So the whole setup is a tad over 1/2 of the Cayman and there is a lot more material to deal with on that car. Simply put, Soul is asking a huge premium because of their perceived name.
Even though my car has a Soul exhaust, if I were paying for it, I wouldn't buy a Soul (and I got my car at a really good deal, so the previous owner lost out big time).

Hey Cliff, thanks for the video. Some really useful information. I've owned a 987.2S for the last 8 years and never been happy with the exhaust note. Had considered Carnewal, but thinking this may not satisfy my needs. I was interested in the drone issue and you have somewhat put my mind at ease. My car is mainly used for country road (B-road Uk) driving and can't see drone being an issue. My local porsche indy has recommended Topgear Valved exhaust and i think i will give it a go. Thanks for the video ;-)

Hi mate, any update on the Topgear valved exhaust / what are your thoughts on it??

    vis-a-vie that clamp...
i think i would remove those two bolts that hold that second adaptor plate to the first adaptor plate and start over. first assemble the clamp/exhaust pipe/second adaptor plate together. then attach the first adaptor plate to the second adaptor plate.

Hi very very nice sound comparisons! Seems you've had a few setups.
One clarification point if you will. Your description says "catless" but at 10:19 it appears as though you have the standard Porsche manifolds. Your videos also sound very quiet for something unsilenced beyond the single valved boxes at the back.
Could you just clarify whether you mean the "Soul exhaust part is catless" rather than "the car has no cats in it" please ?

Great series of videos. Question:. Does your wife want the valves closed while driving? I'm trying to justify saving a few dollars and purchasing the valveless version.

    • @CliffsGarage
      @CliffsGarage  Рік тому

Even with the valves closed, she thinks it's way, way too loud. I don't know how the normal version compares to the valved one in terms of noise, but I like having the valved version because I can tone it down when driving in town. Florida is pretty chill in terms of car mods, but I like having that little bit more safety margin. Plus, having the valves closed was necessary to stay under the sound limits at AMP and Roebling.

Carnewal has an interesting growl to it and then it just doesn’t get louder 🤔

I don't see why not install one side at a time especially if someone's doing it solo
