Just got this camera and loving it. Took some really nice photos and videos with the high quality zoom. You should make tutorials on how to fully use cameras, that would be super helpful to me and possible others! Great video!

Hi, I'm just bought this camera and i'm having some problems. I'm recording at night using a Illumination kit. My videos is really choppy, looks like SD or even lower quality instead of HD. I recorded in the best quality mode. Is the camera really bad at recording or am I doing something wrong? ( I bought it thinking that it would be better than my Nikon D3100, but looks like Nikon D3100 > Canon SX530HS in this case ). Please, I wish you could answer my question as fast as possible.
+FoxWalker BR Well, SX530 has tiny 1/2.3" (6x4mm) sensor while D3100 has APS-C (23x15mm). Sensor size is the main thing responsible for image and video quality and any camera with big sensor will always be superior to the one with smaller one, especially in the dark.

Same thing, newer generation. D3200, D3300... any Nikon with 24 megapixel sensor will be a good step forward compared to D3100. But... how many lenses you have for Nikon allready. If only one or two you might want to think about switching to Canon if video is important to you. Canon has much better interface for video recording. Also, you will want to use fast prime lenses for low light video, something with F/1.4 or F/1.8 aperture.
what an excellent review! I am thinking seriously about getting this camera but am a bit worried about battery life. I usually do 2 - 3 hour video shoots - can I use this camera while it's plugged in? I can't seem to find online whether it will receive power through the usb. I realize it can't charge that way, but is there anyway to plug it in for extended video shoots?

To some extent on maximum zoom yes, but this is not a camera made to take blurry background pictures. You should look into DSLR or mirrorless with a prime lens.
I like to use this camera to film sporting events from the bleachers. I had trouble recently on a windy day because the audio picked up a lot of noisy wind. Do you or anyone else have suggestions how to cut back "wind noise" with this camera? Thank you for this video review.
+Erik Tesauro Only really effective way to deal with wind noise is external micorphone with wind filter. Sadly, SX530 doesn't have mic input. You can try DIY solutions like duct taping wind fiters over mic holes on your camera etc.
i highly suggest you shoot a test of what this camera can do when it comes to the planets such as saturn and jupiters moons...better then many telescopes in this price range!!!!
A 300 dollar telescope will outperform the sx530hs without a doubt.

I am unsure which HDMI cord to get - I want to plug an HDMI adapter into a VGA (male) connector on a monitor - so an HDMI to female VGA adapter cord is needed. Yet regulation HDMI is too big and micro HDMI is too small...which exact size do I need? Thanks.
+Maggie Marsh This is pointless, you need HDMi to VGA converter since HDMi sends digital signal and VGA is analog connection. VGA also does not transfer sound. I wouldn't even bother with that, it is better to spend money on new monitor. BTW, this camera has mini HDMI output.

+Canadian Guitar Hack I don't know of a camera under $300 with all of this you ask for... maybe on some disount but normally no. If you want quality, be ready to spend some money. Take a look at Panasonic FZ300.

Hi thanks for video..i have recently purchased one of these and am having problems with the zoom focus..it seems to take a long time to focus on a particular subject as i like to take photos of wildlife..i find that once zoomed in on subject it takes a long time to clear,i use it on auto mode,just wondering if there is a setting i need to solve this?..thanks
No, this is just the way it is. Fast focusing on such a long focal distance is reserved for cameras and lenses costing 5-10 times as this one. :)

I have the 520 mode and I have taken pics 100 feet away of birds on auto and manual and you just have to learn to slightly touch the shot button and let it focus our just take pic and for me they all come out fine. I love this only problem I have is taking pics of my dogs running, haven't figured out which setting to make them little clearer.
camera Canon Power shot SX 510 HS have a very short period of life , less than 2 year. I recommended it only if you want to have a disposable one ! I am Very disappointed it don't focuses any more, not matter what mode you use, I have being loosing to much precious moments and shoots !! This video shows a new version... wondering if similar to it predecessor ...2 years of life????

No, this camera is not designed for that. You might try macro adapters or similar but it just isn't worth it. Get a DSLR or mirrorless if you want different lenses.

basicheather Shoud be OK as long as you don't need better than built-in microphone and have enough light to record at ISO 100-200-400.

how does this compare to the sx60?
ganistio Similar zoom range and IQ. SX60 has RAW though, but that matters only to those who know what to make of it. It also has 3,5mm mic input if you are serious about video. Overall slightly better camera with more features but nothing that would make a significant differnce.

good Review, but the camera is very bad, only a 1/2,3 Inch sensor. For using 1200mm you Need round about a 1/1000 sec and this with f6,3 ... The camera must go to 100 - 800 iso. 800 iso for a 1/2,3 Inch sensor ... not goot conditions to make good pics
