I was looking to learn about kydex hoslter clips and was skeptical of the 22 minute video time. You got to the point quickly and thoroughly explained your demonstration very well! I really appreciate your help; Im feeling a lot more confident about my next attempt at making one for my knife sheath. Just figuring out how to bend those angles was the hardest part.
Great video. I would like to say thank you for taking the time to make thid and what an awsome job!!!! I have messed around with Kydex but i have so many people asking me to make them i finally pulled the trigger and am starting to produce them. Its the guys like yourself that make learning this art so much easier to learn. Thank you again.
I want to thank you very much for a very informative lesson on making this clip. I have a nylon Uncle Mikes holster that the plastic belt loop broke off and will use the information here to make a clip and attach it to the holster. thanks!
great video. thanks. I never thought about using the vacuum hose for spacers. I was paying like 20¢ + a piece when I started making sheaths now I'm down to 8¢ but vacuum hose is incredible cheap compared to either. You just saved me money making sheaths and starting out every penny adds up. Awesome clips to by the way. I like the attention to detail rounding the sides and corners. Many makers don't care about putting pride into there final piece. I'm currently making risers for the clips I like the integral riser you block out. I might be trying that soon
Nice work. I've been making custom knives and sheaths for some time now. A good little short cut that I've found is the 1/8 shank carbide burrs that you can find on ebay pretty easy the package is blue and there is ten in a set. Since getting these burrs I've saved alot on sanding drums. I had second thoughts at first because these are made in china and it takes a few weeks to get them but I'm glad I got them they work great for kydex work. I hope this can maybe help you a little.
Oh man, i need one of those tools. I tried to make a belt clip similar to that for my galco triton holster. The factory clip was for a really thick 1 3/4" belt but i use a 1 1/2" belt. I did pretty well being my first kydex project but that tool would be so much easier. I still had a issue with mounting hardware. i couldn't find any chicago screws short enough so i kinda put it on hold till i can track down some chicago screws.
That 'Phasor' Dremel tool was the best they ever made. They discontinued it and I am just waiting for mine to refuse to hold a charge. No other Dremel was as comfortable and controllable as that model. I will be very sad when it finally dies.
@PhillyEDC I actually do have a full sized one and one that fits the Dremel and it works well. Using the Dremel makes the edges pretty nice. I do use the buffing wheel in certain circumstances.
How much would you charge for a holster, I like the black one you keap useing as an example. The state I live in has to have a ccl in 170 days I have an sw9ve sigma.. I'm thinkin bout getting my dad one as a b-day gift
Just getting into Kydex and really like the clip design. I have seen a few clips on kydex holsters where people have their logos engraved in their clips. Are those clips all injected molded? And do you know of an effective way to stamp or engrave Kydex with some sort of logo?
Hello Josh. The FOMI clip is my invention and we engrave them. I highly recommend NOT laser engraving Kydex as it gives off a toxic gas and ruins your engraver. My FOMI clips are nylon and engrave very well. We offer engraving for the entire community
I wanted to thank you for the videos you upload. I was wondering if you could help me in locating the video in which you demonstrate how you block out the clip for the belt attatchment that you mentioned you would show in the DIY holster clip video. thank you!
I scrolled through the comments to see who you were replying to but didn't find it. For what hardware are you a wholesaler? Thanks. I have yet to make a holster but am getting close. The clip is one thing I have been dreading, or at least losing sleep over, not really dreading. It's been over a year since this video. Do you still feel that you need to use Kydex that thick for the clip? Great video, by the way! Thanks for sharing!
Idea Dept. Can a process be developed to press a pattern into the Kydex during the forming process. Lets say, a flexible sheet with a basket weave, fish scales, floral etc. could be wrapped around the gun model along with the hot Kydex. The press would form to the gun's shape and imprint the basket weave into the skin of the Kydex as well. Sure it's not as nice as leather hand tooling but what the hey, It would dress up the plan Jane exterior of the holster. Just asking.
+David George If you wrapped around the gun model, it would imprint on the inside. You'd have to place the design between the Kydex and the foam or whatever molding material, but it might hinder the Kydex from imprinting all the details of the weapon. It's a thought though...
Houseknives Sorry we discontinued this mode as we have found a properly made Kydex holster has less wear on a guns finish then leather. The key words here are "properly made"
making the clips are very tedious, couldnt agree more. but like they say you get out what you put in. i get very good response out of my clips and designs. they hold on even without a belt.
I know this video is old so you may have found this out already but you do know that leather is more abrasive to your gun finish than kydex. Kydex, if formed correctly, should do minimal wear to your gun finish for a very long time. Leather on the other hand is very abrasive to the finish. That is why older pistols that have been worn a lot in a leather holster have wear on their barrels. Great video though.
Martin Malý We use to use .125 until I invented the FOMI mold injection clip. I do not suggest making clip hardware out of kydex unless you have no choice
yes, id love to but i would have to get a new camera and have someone help me shoot it. if its not obvious i do all the videos by myself. if i do a tutorial id have to edit it and have someone help me. maybe soon if i can get caught up and a free moment
Houseknives Hello. Sorry but we discontinued this holster model. We found straight Kydex has less wear on the slide then leather if the holster is constructed properly. Thanks

Just for saying that you did not want to do a safety check, you got a thumbs up :)
Awesome idea using the leather strips. Thank you for not wasting time checking the gun.
one of the best kydex videos I've seen with so much information! thank you sir!
Man you are an artist! The word you are looking for is CANT. Smile you are too busy working to cater to every thought.

I see that your holsters are adjustable. What is the rubber insert called?
funny you say that. that is exactly what i do. works great and also cools down my drink at the same time!
Awesome video my friend. What a great way to not get charged $13 per clip. Just make your own. Thank you
Great information! Thanks for sharing, brother! Do you have a buffing wheel, by the way?
