I will say I tried learning Zbrush and was immediately turned off by the interface, nothing seemed intuitive to me so I stopped trying. However, for just a novice user, for me, Nomad is king here! Only one-time purchase price at $19.99 and the menus and tool are so intuitive and easy to use. I was able to follow some tutorials by Dave Reed and created my first sculpture in under an hour that I am in the process of having 3D resin printed!
Dangerously close to being an ad Vm, but yeah, it is very good and Dave is a total legend. Glen Southern is an amazing teacher too, if we're advertising for other channels!
one good thing about zbrush is the amount of amazing courses and tutorials out there but yes the UI is super clunky and non intuitive. nomad is a great software too though.
But let's get real - how far can Nomad really take you? If you're in the big leagues, you're on a racetrack. And you don't show up to the Indy 500 in a go-kart, do you? Pro tools for pro jobs, period.
Nice.. I get the impression existing Zbrush users will be happier than those new to Zbrush, in which case it would be a hard sell over Nomad sculpt. Nomad is an amazing alternative, but Zbrush for iPad sounds like the Nomad upgrade long term users have been waiting for perhaps..
like most of you I use a pen tablet display, and mine actually has touch being a wacom 27 inch cintiq - I almost wish they were just back, put this interface to the desktop version of ZBrush at this point it’s amazing how much different this feels like and how much more modern it feels like and I don’t feel like I have to take my brain in a weird direction just to use the damn program that would go a really long way to spur adoption, regardless of other people‘s muscle memory
Ian thank you so very much for all your support and helping me learn ZBrush and helping me in creating this video! Could have done it without you! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi is it possible to show a performance difference breakdown between zbrush on the latest ipad mini, ipad air, the entry level ipad pro, and the maxed out ipad pro? I'm curious as to if there is any real difference especially with an ipad pro with 8gb ram and 16gb ram
Been waiting for this. I upgraded from a Samsung S8 Ultra tablet to the Ipad M4 when I found out Zbrush was coming to Ipad. Using it now it's pretty cool. I think Nomad has kind of taken the excitement down a notch since it's incredibly powerful for waaaaaay cheaper but Zbrush is cool for doing more higher poly pro stuff. Not to mention I pay for the Maxon subscription so having it on the PC and tablet is cool.
@@eyedesyn Yeah, you still have to pay for the pencil separately, but the boost in speed of the M4 processor over the Qualcom on the Samsung tablet was night and day using Nomad. Also I am able to sculpt/paint in post processing render mode on Nomad with the M4 chip. With this power, Zbrush is running well on it so far. Well worth it.
@@ztoogemcducc6360 They have not, but the head of product said that they didn't have time for this release to add in everything and that those features are on the list for V2.
I have an M4 and use Nomad Sculpt and just installed Zbrush which I bought this M4 for. So far I'm at 44mil poly's and it's still smooth. You can measure this if you go to 44mil on your M2 and see how it does.
Yeah it will probably better for your progress to learn how to use both anyway, in terms of hours spent on your craft and learning good practice principles and the programmes terminologies
I’m a Nomad Sculpt user. Love that. But I will admit that I liked this ZBrush for iPad almost immediately. I have zero experience with the desktop version. I feel that it is WAAAY TOO EXPENSIVE however. I quite literally hate subscription based apps. So sick of this ripoff platform that so many choose to dish to us. Make this a one off purchase, and then I’ll think about it. But Nomad Sculpt reigns supreme for me.
ZModeler is probably not long off from being added but the compatibilty with lower desktop versions is only for the GoZ, you can still export Zbrush files and import them into ZBrush manually, I believe.
@eyedesyn unfortunately I don't think so. I did read that only desktop 2025+ will be able to open ipad projects... on the other side ipad will be able to open older desktop versions. Will see once I try the free ipad version.
@@notaste6002 Right, I was told that the update to ZBrush has no updates other than the GoZ to iPad. Interested to hear your thoughts after you give it a go!
This seems like it could be really cool even if it isn't now and it could be a huge game changer for me. I'll be restarting my maxon one sub once I have a job again haha.
@@eyedesyn at least. Zbrush still doesn’t have real lighting or the ability to paint spec, paint emissive, cant do transparent materials, no hdri, can set up real lights, cant keep mesh pivots, cant undo deleted sub tools, nomad even has a web browser version thats in beta you can use now.
ZBrush demands a lot of power, so this makes sense. Nomad is a lighter app and not really geared for Hollywood films, so it's good folks who love mobile sculpting have that option!

You can do radial and linear cloning using ArrayMesh! Its under Tool > ArrayMesh!

I’m sure it’s on their list to implement better on the iPad at least!

As a desktop user I hope multi point touch and this interface comes to desktop.
Not having to use the weird camera controls would be amazing
Absolutely - that was one of the things that was a friction point for me on the desktop! With the iPad, navigation is super smooth
Sticking with Nomad Sculpt.
Totally get it!
Seems very exciting. I will try it on my ipad to see how it goes. Thanks, EJ.

I’m quite new to all this, what’s the difference between this and Forger?
Is an iPad Air good for using zbrush? or does it only work with iPad Pro?
It should be part of the Maxon One subscription.
Is it not?
I can’t get it to work. I get the subscription options when opening the app.
How's Zbrush run on the 3rd GEN ipad Pro? I thought it was only for M series iPads? I don't have mine on me today.

Pineapple is great on pizza but only if it's accompanied by a spicy topping, like jalapeños or spicy sausage.
Mainly interested in illustration. Might try Zbrush. Export only in paid, too bad. Maddening user interface will discourage me.

Thank you
Usually the iPad UI versions are much better than computer versions...
