    I´ve been using zbrush for 20 years now. I still prefer nomad over it. Tools overall are just more intuitive and easy to use. Hopefully we get nomad on the desktop soon as well

    Nomad is truly an incredible app for the price.

      Except I worry about the developer's financial model. Without a revenue stream, how is he going to keep working? It's like Zbrush. I bought it and got free updates for years. Everybody loved them for it. I loved them for it. But look what happened. They were the small fish and Maxon was the big fish that swallowed them, rather than the other way around.
      If I buy a shirt, I don't keep paying for it because the company doesn't spend any further time performing mending and maintenance. If I had a garment that did require constant mending, I'd either have to pay for that, or the garment would have cost a ton more in the first place.
      And so we have Nomad. It cost me $20. I love the app. But I don't see how it's going to be sustainable. The Procreate guys make it work but there's a LOT bigger market for painting apps than sculpting apps. Just something to think about.

    Back when I was in the market for a new tablet, I was still interested in 3D sculpting and wanted a tablet I could sculpt with at the time. Nomad Sculpt supporting Android was a massive selling point for me at the time. I'm thinking about picking up 3D sculpting again and I'm glad I made the investment. And I'm glad you put this video out! It was a great refresher and you pointed out some things I didn't know about, like jacking up the intensity of the brushes. That's a great feature and IMO, helps cut down on excessive amount of brushes, which helps avoid that "misery of choice" feeling.
    I would also like to point out, if for whatever reason the user cannot use the 3 finger tap-drag to increase intensity, they can actually drag intensity slider itself. It should show a percentage above it as you go. The fact that they have at least two ways of doing something like this make me appreciate the developers of this app more!

      Thank you! I totally agree, and I hope you get back to sculpting, not soon, today! Doing it as a job for so long has killed the excitement a little, 3d printing is the new spark that is bringing the joy back for me. Maybe playing with nomad can be your spark

      @celsofx  Місяць тому

      Its crazy! I was taking them for granted myself until I tried to use zbrush for Ipad and was missing so many of the nomad things that I just went back to it. As I get more familiar with the tools myself, I will probably do a few videos highlighting single features that I find useful and how I use them on my workflow.

    I know Im the minority here but I love everything about zbrush for ipad over Nomad Sculpt except the subscription. It is really intuitive to me. Ive been using zbrush for ipad since launch and although it had some issues they seemed to have address most of all the little bugs. Also, learning the ipad version has helped me get more acquainted with the desktop version.I like Nomad but I'm having more fun with zbrush.

      100% agree. zbrush is king on desktop.

  • @makingmonsterart
    @makingmonsterart 2 місяці тому +1

    I agree. I think they had a little bit of a tough road to navigate. They wanted to make it familiar to existing Zbrush users, while also capturing the tablet user market. The problem is tablet users are used to MUCH more intuitive UIs and layouts, and so Zbrush deciding to keep most of the tools in the same place they live in the desktop version (which is NOTORIOUSLY hard to learn because so many things are hidden in various menus and sub menus), has made the iPad version kind of a difficult mess.
    Here's the thing: they didn't NEED to cater towards the existing PC users. Artists are pretty good with adapting and they usually pick up a new art program and start creating amazing work pretty quickly. Zbrush users who use iPads as well have never had a problem learning and using Nomad Sculpt. Zbrush could have taken this opportunity to VASTLY improve their UI experience and put crucial tools (like Mirror and Weld) in easier to find more intuitive places and users would adapt IF they'd done their job well. They could keep the Zbrush power and complexity with an improved experience. And if they still weren't sure, include an option for "classic mode" for those Zbrush purists who don't want to update. Also (and maybe it's already in there and I haven't found it, because Zbrush has SO many features kind of tucked away where you don't always see them) a search function. Don't know where to find that tool you use ALL THE TIME in your custom UI on the PC? Let me search for it in app, and don't make me do a Google search for the answer instead.

    • @celsofx
      @celsofx  2 місяці тому

      @@makingmonsterart wow, a search bar would be sooooo helpful. Also. Your idea for classic mode is awesome, tablet mode when you are on the go. And classic for when you bring the keyboard along.

    NOMAD its great for beginners and for blocking but brush and the bridge from iPad to desktop is amazing, also if you can't find your favorites or most used tools you can make a personal menu whit all you most used tools

    • @celsofx
      @celsofx  2 місяці тому

      I bet the bridge is great. But i am still rocking my perpetual license that stopped updating in 2022. And of course neither the bridge or the project files work with older versions of zbrush. I like customizing zb, but i like not feeling like i need to change anything in nomad even more

    Does nomad on iPad have something similar to Zspheres? Android version doesn't. This is the reason I'm using zbrush instead. Thanks.

    • @celsofx
      @celsofx  Місяць тому

      Not really, but I use spheres and curve tubes for a similar effect when blocking a character, duplicating moving and duplicating again goes really fast

    • @celsofx
      @celsofx  Місяць тому +1

      I haven't got to Nomads poly limit yet. Knife tool in nomad is easier to use in my opinion, and the history being independent 8s both good and bad, its good most of the time. Until you try to undo a merge for example.

  • @owenrichards1418

    A lot of what you are hitting ZBrush for is it's UI, which, granted, is a mess. 10 pound a month isn't a lot of money when you compare it to what people on desktops are paying for this stuff.
    Having said that, Nomad looks great and the interface is actually designed by people who have to use it rather than programmers. Happy to see it's not just iPad, but is available for Android tablets as well.

    • @celsofx
      @celsofx  Місяць тому

      Yeah, depends on what we are comparing it too. 20 life time is a lot cheaper than 10 a month, but 10 a month is not too bad when comparing to 700 a year, my biggest concern is that i stillbuse zbrush for desktop 2022, before the subscription started. To open the zb for ipad files on pc is only possible if you have the latest zb, and that is the most appealing feature bof the zb for ipad. So for me, zb for ipad would only make sence if i paid 700 a year 😔

    I hate how ZBrush for iPad only seems to have the trackball option for turning maneuvering around the scene, whereas nomad has it and turntable. I also hate how mask and smooth are predominantly locked behind the "alt key" and you have to keep your finger on screen for it. I've seen far too many ZBrush users praise it for "innovation" when from a user standpoint they're still a decade behind in terms of UI. I also hate how ZBrush handles the falloff where nomad the falloff can be adjusted to a plethora of styles for basically every brush and on top of that alphas can also be added to enhance the style of the falloff.

    • @celsofx
      @celsofx  2 місяці тому

      I never played with the falloff in nomad. I am going to check it out. Sounds like a great feature by the way you described

    • @Sicarius089
      @Sicarius089 2 місяці тому

      @celsofx it's severely under rated and not talked about, it helps create different affects too and you can also toggle on / off symmetry for it to get different styles to, not to mention changing the stroke type can also affect how the falloff responds. I honestly love how intuitive nomad's menus are paid out. ZBrush really needs to deconvolute itself.
