I think Over the Top has a secret win condition because you clearly hit the bar of getting there quickly, so casting even after you deck out mills the opponent out and I think thats funny
That's what I was thinking. If your opponents gets a bunch of stuff of the over the top you can mill them and if they don't you attack them to death
I had a Warp World deck in one of the Duels games, and I found that the most straight forward win con in that was Hedron Crab. It wasn't the best deck but it was fun and it's super easy to mill people with all the landfall triggers, especially if you get multiple crabs or you get to chain warp world casts. Can try it with Ruin Crab in pioneer (but part of what made hedron crab good was you could self mill to find the pieces)
Look at how satisfied saffron olive is with that over the top intro

Devilish Valet might be a fun include in this deck as it can remove the need to get the bitter reunion as it itself has haste and can kill (even through a massive board). Also, with all the treasures and stimulus package, you can still build up enough treasures to get a surprise kill on your opponent even if you don't find your over the top.
Devilish Valet does have the unfortunate problem of just dying to a single instant-speed spot removal spell, though.
There's a 3 mana 3/2 that pings the oponent every time a creature enters the battlefield, só maybe
In historic just add Tuktuk Rubble Fort or Samut to give creatures haste. ^_^
But Devilish Valet is a quick way to swing for a few million or billion depending how many things come in with it / after it.
In historic you can also load up with Terror of the Peaks and just wham-wham-wham-wham your opponent directly with it.
Or jetmir cause we are super over the top
It only puts one permanent on the battlefield and really slows the main plan of the deck down. Maybe a one of.
Seth, you are incredibly excited for EVERY deck. I don't even think this is exaggeration.
Instead of the haste spell, you should try a couple of that Goro legendary goblin that gives the whole team haste. More permanents less problems!

I think Keldon Strike Team might be an upgrade over Bitter Reunion. Run multiple copies, and of one comes up in hand you can kick it for three permanents to boost the Over the Top
It might be worth it to keep casting Over the Tops to mill out your opponent in some cases. Though you'd have to commit to the backup plan since attacking would force you to draw off of Wedding Announcement!
I'd love to see a mirror match over the top vs over the top, gotta be such a mess x)
I love the Gala Greeter's and Stimulus Package combo. It just grinds out value on both your turn and the opponents turn. Awesome deck!
You could try this with Ruin Crab as a win con in Pioneer, or if a similar card is available in standard that could be good.
I tried a bunch of setups with Warp World when it was in one of the Duels games, and the simplest win condition was Hedron Crab in that. You get so many lands entering the battlefield at once that you're bound to mill them in one or two Warp World casts. Much simpler than trying to go over the top with big haste and trample creatures or out-valuing the opponent. The crab was also great for self-milling to find the pieces.
(with Over the Top, you don't shuffle your lands back in so you would get less landfall triggers but it's easier to go infinite and the opponent decks themselves faster as well so they just need a little bit of "help" in that regard)
As soon as I saw this card I got excited for against the odds
I love it! It's like a non-Alchemy Verdant Rejuvenation. It's hard not to deck yourself with Verdant Rejuvenation sometimes lol
I've been running a version of this but with Portal to Phyrexia and Titan of Industry as the big wincons. The card is so incredibly fun when it's able to land.
I'm thinking I need to try having a deck with Over the Top and Antique Collector. If you chump block with a perpetually modified creature, the creature goes back into your deck and you get a replacement clue. Over the Top would also likely place nicely with Oracle of the Alpha as you can grow your deck out and those Moxes you'd accumulate would just help your permanent count...
I feel like this deck already hits the Over the Top escape velocity whenever you would actually want to cast it, so shaving some combo pieces for some creature-based removal could be necessary to shore up against faster decks.
Also, this deck looks like it folds to one Farewell
It’s an against the odds deck. I don’t think it’s meant to be tier zero. Of course it gets got by farewell. Many decks do.

You missed out the permanent that would put a ton of tokens into play: Rebel Rousing, which also helps you find Over the Top (and cast it for free).

I was trying this deck out, because OTT amuses me, and I actually slapped a couple of devilish vallets in, and it’s actually one hell of a plus win con
"we don't have a sweeper" Temporary Lockdown is a wrath that leaves a permanent, You can also leverage cards like Borrowed Time to have removals that count towards your permanent count
The problem with cards like temporary lockdown is that hitting it off of over the top can stop your big turn. A non-permanent would actually be better for the deck.
You should have to turn your truckercap backwards every time you cast Over the Top.
I went stesnia uprising and katilda human ramp with rabble Rousing then slammed the deck with as many 6+ mana rares/mythics as possible.
Standard Warp World was my first FNM win. I was so excited to see Over the Top.
This card is extremely punnable. I appreciate this.
For another Against the Odds deck, I'd be curious to see if Assembly-Worker tribal can work on Arena. I don't know which format is best, but I want to see if it's possible.
Probably historic, so you can play the tutoring assembly worker

In Historic, to avoid mill-death, add 4 Gaea's Blessings. Anything non-permanent you grab with Over the Top that goes to the graveyard gets recycled back into the deck. Yeah? ;)
I think that a good roll into the deck would be that new soldier that stops them from casting counterspells on your turn.

And now with a deck like this you can get Imodane's Recruiter and Terror of the Peaks. Before that card came, I guess there was also Witty Roastmaster and Dragonspark Reactor. And for extra fun and maybe jankiness... Elesh Norn to double triggers and turn off your opponents', which especially matters when you have a card like Over the Top.

I'm not convinced that Wedding Announcement is worth the splash into white here. yeah it makes a good number of tokens but it does it kinda slow and it doesn't seem likely that the anthem will be flipped for the alpha strike turn.
I'd maybe go into blue instead for Aether Channeler. It can make a bird token for upping permanent count, but it can also cantrip to help draw into Over The Top or bounce a big threatening non-land if interaction is needed.

I've had some luck without the white. Sarynth Greatwurm and awaken the woods both can pop off hard.
I use dragonspark reactor as an alternate wincon and removal/stall tactic
Would love to see some kind of Naya Titania meld deck. use the New Capenna basic fetches to fill your graveyard and then drop a massive Titania that gets the fetches back and finds more lands and then just STEAMROLL your opponent. Could be fun
Played an opponent with over the top off a rabble rousing. They had jetmir, and titans and I think a single mirror box so the jetmirs they hit could stack the benefits. It was insane
Take a shot every time Seth says “over the top” (the phrase). Take 2 shots when he says over the top (the card and the phrase) in the same sentence.
I wonder if this would work with a lab maniac effect and draw at the end

I had to read the damn thing 3 times before it clicked that it was "a big dumb Red finisher spell".
The real Against the Odds here is finding enough magic players willing to still play standard

@@elambruce7491 I think it's specifically paper standard that's flagging, and that's caused by Arena eating its lunch, lack of a competitive scene, high cost, covid killing in-person games, and commander just becoming a more appealing entry point for new players as well as the favorite for older ones too... and I'd also wager there's a number of players who have gotten disillusioned by Wizard's current business strategies, though not sure how prevalent that attitude is yet

okay if someone is interested I have three ways to make the green mana to any mana:
Salvaged Manaworker (cheap creature that filters for 1 but limited to 1 filter per turn)
Crossroads Candleguid (higher end creature but can filder 2 into any color. Might exile Underdog for you)
Energy Refractor (filters 2 into 1. Not a creature but draws a card)
& three approaches and
A) Tawnos Tinkering or Boon of Boseiju with Moonveil Regent.
You need to include a lot of cheap green cards and you need to thin out the lands. So you might want to use Gx multicolored cards. To filter I suggest Energy refractor to reduce the chances of fizzeling.
B): Patchwork Crawler. Feed the Clearcutter and Depth Charger Colossus to it. When you exile the 3rd creature you tap to get GGGG and untap for 3. If you got the Candleguid in there you have infinit mana in standard of any color. All three are Artifacts so you can get them in the graveyard with Disiples of Gix and if lucky you control a Sheoldred and an Evolved Sleeper at that point. Maybe some UB draw discard synergies with doll house can help.
C: Urzas Doll house. The plan turn many cards into dolls including Urza, Keldon Strike team & the Clearcutter. Strike Team grants every token made with Urza haste. So if your Clearcutter is a 6/6 you can tap it to get a new Clearcutter that is a 1/1 but has the modification granted through Doll House.
one thing I found playing this is that if you go off and get multiple casts, you may win by decking your opponent. you need to be careful and NOT select resolve all. If the one of cards you brought in was bitter reunion, selecting resolve all will just make you likely to lose

If the opponent has too many permanents, just over the top with an empty library. They'll be the first to draw and lose to milling out.
I feel like Bo1 is the best format for against the odds. “Opponent” knowing what you’re trying to do is rarely good for jank.

Not just 7 mana, you have to get a lot of permanents for it to start going, also thoughtsieze is a very real thing in modern 🤣
@@josecod77 ha ha the Permanents part is easy though. Plenty of more busted ways to get multiple permanents per card in modern but yeah thoughtseize and answers are more prevalent.
