Seth: “even tho lurrus is broken, you can put it in the deck”
Seth: a couple hours later “Nevermind”
every time Seth does a "free" modern deck i'm on step closer to playing modern XD
For those who want to get into MTGO but don't spend Money i got some additional advice Seth didn't cover:
There are a ton of fun Modern Decks that are free, in fact something i've been doing just because i love to beat Tier 1 and 2 Modern Decks using Decks Opponents won't expect is to check out "Penny Dreadful" Decklists that went 5-0 in the Penny Dreadful Format, these are always around 1-2tix and therefor free.
Penny Dreadful is a Format on MTGO with the most Variety because Decks may only cost 1tix - it's yet not supported officially by Wizards but is played a lot and popular because it's for free.
Anyway back to "Modern" - i take Decks that are great or fun in Penny Dreadful, then remove Cards that aren't Modern legal (which usually are a few) and replace them with Modern legal equivalents or something better. Those Decks usually stay below 10tix once you changed them to Modern legal.
Also nothing is more fun than beating competitive Modern Decks on MTGO with some cheap Deck full of Cards and/or Combos your Opponent has no Answers for.
Prost & Cheers from the Snow-Covered Bavarian Alps
Modern is my favorite format, but I understand your sentiment. I have the same issue with Legacy - reserved list cards are hard to justify!
"Lurrus is a free roll in this deck"
Sentences that poorly aged
Didn't even get a chance to age. More like sentences that aborted poorly.
Umm, so you should probably disregard the upgrade advice of adding Lurrus ;)
(Also, thanks for all of the feedback on the new style of sideboarding. Wanted to try it out and see what people thought).
Change it back.
Keep it!
Just wanted to say that titles like these are really good for new viewers and/or players to check out magic. People might not know what a light paws is but they always love an underdog story.
I really like the new sideboard "In" and "out" screen. Makes it much easier to read on mobile.
Same! Maybe the transition could be a bit better? Like if in the future Seth could say a quick little blurb to talk about what he's bringing in and why.
Well, the non-budget version of the deck just got cheaper. Lurrus is banned.
Seth I'd have ran Blacksmiths skill over karametras blessing. It's just almost strictly better. It has no downside and always protects. Blessing has to have an aura to be online. Sure I lose the pumping but that's not why blessing is played. Sweet content though especially the fact it's free it's so awesome you're showcasing these free decks!
I think that's a good idea. The pumping isn't especially relevant most of the time while protecting at all times seems super helpful.
@@MTGGoldfish also hilariously this deck screams Esper sentinel lol (but to be fair I wanna jam that in every deck that has white 🤣) I love that card. Makes the oppressive decks think about their plays or paying for Sentinel. That's not budget at all though ha ha so nevermind.
I miss the sideboard discussions. Maybe put up a poll asking what everyone likes?
I am really missing seeing the sideboards and talking about why you are sideboarding in or out certain cards. It was one of my favorite parts of watching these games.
Seth I've been running curse of silence in my light paws deck (I know this is budget) and it's helped me beat these unfair hooligans. I either name what they are cascading into or dryad of the Ilsyian Grove ect ect. Hilariously buying me an extra turn or two is all light paws needs. I also run On Thin Ice as removal.
Yes, on thin ice seems so good. I came to the comments to suggest it and it's like 1€.
@@keep7smiling yeah it's pretty awesome. Obviously has some downsides but it does the job normally long enough. Answer any problematic creature. I was surprised at how good Curse of Silence was lol when my opponent needed to cast their Dryad to go off but had to pay two more mana 🤣. They scooped because they were dead on board. Light paws definitely makes Bogles playable again which makes me happy. My brews less all in and more tool box.
I feel like it might be worth playing a 1-of Cartouche of Zeal even though it'd be completely dead if you ever draw it. Being able to immediately give Light-Paws haste and/or the ability to bypass a blocker seems quite valuable when some of these games can be so quick.
“One major upgrade, lurrus” well that didn’t age well 😂 still a killer deck!
It's official: Pacifism is modern playable! This alone made my day!
partly a budget choice, but it worked out okay. An upgraded version of the deck would probably use On Thin Ice instead and play with snow basics
This might be the one that gets me into Modern! Less than $100 for a deck that looks absolutely sweet.
As is always worth plugging: you can play most of this deck in Pioneer, for about as cheap. Now it may even be optimal given Lurrus is dead.
Music to my ears
Yeah losing Kor Spiritdancer might be a positive when it means not having to deal with MH2 crap as well.
small criticism: while the edit on the sideboarding looks better, I really enjoyed seeing it in real time and watching Seth's thinking about what to bring and what to cut. it really improved my sideboarding (especially when playing decks he made or played on the channel)
Seth you must understand. Ragavan costs ONE mana. We need to have it generate treasures. Otherwise how is it going to be worth casting?
I mean...ok, we've heard you loud and clear. Next time we print Ragavan it will be 0 mana but not generate treasures.
I really wish I could stand your voice, because I think your content is great.
I wonder if blacksmith's skill would be better than karametra's blessing jusst seems like guaranteed indestructible and hexproof is better than the +2/+2
That first match is an example of why Modern is unplayable right now. That kinda deck used to be unpopular and easy to hate, now they're everywhere and so consistent "the dream" happens over half the time.
The last time you'll have to mention Lurrus and Modern at the same time :)
Seth, scoop at your discretion! Can’t believe how long you hung around against that control deck.
I’ve been wanting to get into modern for a while, and I think this is finally the deck to get me in. Looks so cool. Thanks Seth for always making the best content!
Okay, hear me out. Same deck list, but you jam in some Mana Tithes.
This modern deck makes me want to build this as a commander deck. 62 spells 38 lands.
12 fast mana rocks
30 Auras
3 creature's (not counting Paw's)
Sram
Kor Spirit Dancer
Esper Sentinel
Path to Exile
Swords to Plows
Teferi's Protection
Smothering Tithe
A couple tutors
12 enchantments that basically tax my opponents (Aura of Silence, Sphere of Safety, Ghostly Prison, etc.)
Would be really fun!
I'm happy Lurrus is banned but how the F is Ragavan not banned? It's one of the dumbest cards in a long time honestly. God I hate the Modern Horizon sets and everything they've done to the format.
How did you go from +7 to +13? I’m confused on how you’re getting that many +1s with only 4 enchantments on the board
deafening silence would be a good sileboard against cascate decks.
Love this deck. I play bogles so I have like 90% of these cards gonna try it!
I love the new sideboarding
I'm really interested to see how a U/W version would work with access to creature payoffs like Invisible stalker and Geist of Saint Traft.
Match 1 game 1: fastest concession in the west
i like the " In -Out" graphic during sideboarding. it is useful
I will guess no Lurrus because of budget.
I've only watched the deck tech so far, but I feel like this deck is calling out for some Gods Willing. Bogles works best when you can't remove the Bogle!
It has karametras blessing. The issue with gods willing is when the removals white you lose all your auras if you pro white it. Now what would be better is Blacksmiths skill. I'd run it over karametras blessing as it's always online.
@@winssports4830 I agree, I had actually forgotten about Blacksmith's Skill. That's just a straight upgrade to Karametra's Blessing.
@@PlayMadness it's an underrated card. I have a Selesnya blitz deck that runs it and Tamiyos safekeeping and his hilariously fun.
you get a like just for the intro
I like the sideboard summaries.
A lot of people are saying they miss the sideboard discussion which is valid, but if you do go back to leaving the full sideboarding in, the summary afterword is very nice, keep doing it.
The fact that Modern has one of the largest pools of cards to choose from and you can successfully guess what people are playing is proof it isn't as diverse and free-wheeling/ accessible as Seth says.
That's a misconception. There is a meta as is with every competitive game, but Modern has a large base for non-meta decks to still do well. Rogue decks crop up a lot and innovation is still a big deal.
The power creep is just an Hasbro money tactic.
These joo crooks will push until Magic is the verge of dying.
Really like the new way to show sideboarding! :)
I love the intros! Keep it up :)
This Comment Section:
95% "Haha Seth said Lurrus can be added but now is banned/did not age well"
4% Actual comments on the Deck
1% Zoomers going "MTGO is so ugly, why do people play this"
Idk about you guys but the WARD mechanic is so annoying. It's like Standard Death and Taxes. Especially with Thalia in standard as well.
So dropped out of modern years ago... yeah watching match 1 just makes me not want to get back into it. The power level of MH2 just broke how many formats?
Seth: #1 Upgrade for the deck is Lurrus
WOTC: Should we tell him?
The MH2 tribal decks are so unbelievably cringe. If you play that, I despise you. So does anyone else.
Seth just apparently forgetting that GDS exists n calling it Rakdos MH2 tribal is amusing
wtf is that glimpse cascace? haven't played non-edh for some time xD
Mulliganing a one-lander? Who are you and what have you done to Seth probably better known as SaffronOlive?
We will all remember this as the last goldfish modern vid with Lurrus
Really, Seth? Mono-white Modern build and _nooo_ *Mana Tithe* ?
Whyeverfor?
Interesting speeding up the game by cutting the sideboards game smart but I still liked ur ramblings during the sideboard
Apocalypse Chime except it buries all cards from modern horizons sets.
YOU STAY AWAY FROM MY KAHEERA! I need it for my cat tribal
Bad timing on the upload with the upgrade suggestions. Lurrus got banned in Modern today.
Another non budget Light paws modern build I'm also running Abundant growth redraws fixes mana gets around blood moon and I can fetch strong auras to attach to light paws) but there's a guaranteed turn three win if light paws isn't killed in modern. Requires 3 lands untap with light paws. Play ethereal armour tutor (any aura works here so either protection or evasion unlockable aura) then cast all that glitters tutor up phyresis) smack them for ten infect.
The Phyresis tech is actually quite interesting. Given Gryff's boon, trample from Daybreak coronet, or creature protection from Spirit mantle, odds are you can get some form of evasion on lightpaws. 2 1 drop auras, and 1 2 drop aura (rolling into Phyresis), often times on a naked Light-Paws will result in 10+ power with evasion or trample, and because of tutoring you can run phyresis as a 1 of. Also gives a alternative win con for decks that have some way to not care about life.
@@ashbell5240 exactly it's awesome. I won't deny it wasn't my idea it's funny I was brewing a light paws deck and having a blast with it but I ran into someone brewing as well and they had the phyresis tech. They ultimately just had better hands than me (answered my answers lol) but was still cool to lose to it as I brewed a phyresis Bogles a long time ago but this just makes it easier. Phyresis can be a one of gotcha card that no one expects lol. I'm running four colors but technically only two as I have a one of Phyresis and a one of Aqueous Form. Their's was more all in combo with protection mine was tool box. I like my brew better but I'm definitely adding the phyresis combo to it.
Loks like seth had some money problems. I must sell my magic colection. Prises are too high for food and the Gass in the europe.
It's the same in Canada and Usa.
Thanks your greedy governments and businesses for raising prices out of greed.
The best solution to problems. Excessive violence and power
the time you show the sideboarding is way too short to see anything without pausing!
It actually seems quite unfortunate for this deck that Lurrus got banned, since Lurrus was the main way to shore up that weakness to removal-heavy decks.
At 18:40, didn't you have another draw off of playing the daybreak coronet with a Sram in play? That could have found you another aura.
You can't play daybreak coronet unless the creature has an aura on it
33:28 why didn't Sram trigger when the boon was cast?
You have to do this again and splash blue for: Aqueous Form, Curious Obsession, and Meletis Astronomer.
If you’re feeling extra spicy you can splash Meddling Mage.
Imo Sram Senior Developer doesn’t pay the bills, Nix that and try Adanto Vanguard. He’s all gas and super hard to remove in Pioneer.
Counter magic is the least fun thing in all of mtg, instant turn off
I built a Historic deck like this on Arena and its really good. I do W/B to add the card draw aura's and flight. Adanto Vanguard is just busted against some decks.
Quick question before seeing the games: isn't skyblade's boon better than gryf? You can't actually replay boon and trigger light-paws, plus skyblade let's you get coronet
Light-Paws literally jojo-possing with those stats
So Lurrus is banned, so no need for that upgrade :D
This will be my last comment lol I just love Light Paws. Another spicy tech I've been running is a one of Shimmering Wings because it's repeatable card draw/tutors. Between Spirit Dancer and Light Paws.
Each intro that I watch, I wonder.. with as many videos as he’s made and posted, is he really still better known as SaffronOlive?
I remember when a 2/1 for 1 might have a downside, like with goblin guide you would cause your opponent to ramp. But now, you get to steal a card and a treasure for mana ramp...for 1 mana!
Goblin guide is a 2/2 and has haste, but I hear you.
Guide doesn't ramp the opponent, they only draw the land if its there.
@@tonysmith9905 I mean, that is ramp in my book, particularly since it is on every attack. Point being, it is a least a cost vs all upside.
@@BeCurieUs It's not ramp though. Every slang term in mtg has a very defined definition by the community. What Guide gives your opponent is card advantage. Not great advantage since it only gives lands, but it's still there.
Goblin Guide made me win many games with the land draw. 😁
He is nowhere close to the r3tardation of the Monkey.
Every year, SO's intro gets a little more high-pitched. It's just going to be a shriek by 2030.
I don't mind the sideboard in and out screens, but i miss him talking about what he was changing and why. I tend to listen more than watch, and now the time between games is just "well, thats what we have to do, kill them before they do the thing" and back in so i miss all the changes.
damn didnt know we were playing historic today
Lurrus would be great
Lurrus gets banned the same day
Love the deck. Shame about the format. MH2 still looks like it's not going anywhere fast
I know I'm late but splashing green for something like Destiny Spinner would be kind of interesting in this deck to help against counter and as a finisher in the late game
Quick question for the comment section and/or Seth. In game 1 why did you bring all the "activated abilities" hate from the sideboard?
Never mind he answers me in the video! "Slows down fetch lands specifically"
Welp today I learnt how good it REALLY is! Loved the video Seth!!
Why scoop so soon against glimpse? They can literally wiff into all lands. At least make them show you they got it!
Hehe, Lurrus can't help you now.
Is there a strong reason not to run snow plains? It's only relevant for the 1 of gelid shackles in the board, but is there a significant downside in modern to snow lands?
I was looking another video, but then I saw that Set has posted a new video, so I just turned to this one, and in the 1st second I was already rewarded with this song.
I love that Seth recommends a banned magic card in Lurrus. :)
Does ignoring Lurrus (now that it's banned) enable anything spicy at the three drop spot?
Lmao at the lurrus upgrade on today of all days
Too bad Lurrus just bit the ban hammer.
The short sideboard image is fantastic.
Any 100$ deck is perfect imo especially for any rotating format like modern.
Are snow basics too expensive? On thin ice seems really good in this deck, or am I missing something
That lurrus comment didnt age well lol
Would it be reasonable to run snow plains and On Thin Ice in some version of this deck?
Match one game one is the epitome of "Lurrus is the problem and should've been banned" 🤣. I love that you won the match though lol.
I really like the idea of adding light-paws to bogles. I just want to see if canopy cover is a strong 1 of for light-paws to tutor
Upgrades: Lurrus
Wizards: So you're gonna laugh...
that intro was one hell of a throwback
bring back sideboarding please!
lurrus as an upgrade didn't last long
Ankward timing with Lurrus banning, but really nice deck !
That intro killed me. XD
Lol lurus just got banned today
