Very helpful tutorial, thanks for that! Works like a charm. Only Issue is that the temp sensor is only available in 50cm length, which forces you to have the brick right next to whatever device you are controlling at the time. Since the device itself is not waterproof, thats a bit of a problem. Lets hope sonoff comes around with a longer version at some point in the future...
Sonoff offers the RL560 extension cord, any other RJ11 cable will work as well. There is also an adapter from RJ11 to the old aux jack so you can use the old aux sensors which are available with longer cables!
The chip inside does not allow over the air update (space too small to accommodate old and new firmware at the same time). So in case you ever want to do an update, an exposed serial port cable might come in handy. Cheers!
9:17 Do *not* "apply solder", a tinned multi-strand wire will make a much worse connection in a screw terminal than a twisted multi-strand wire. In most countries it's illegal to do that. The best is a ferule but the twisted wires work just a well. If you absolutely want to tin them, you have to do it strand by strand 😀
One Side of the jumper is labelled with 3V3 and the other with 5V. Remove the plastic thingy from the 5V side (factory setting in my experience) ans insert it on the other. Does that help?
For temperature control there is a pwm like implementation which will turn off the relay before set temperature is reached so overshoots are eliminated. For boiling there will be a slow pwm (90% maps to 9s On, 1s off) - but that is a Todo for the future. Check our forum there is a discussion around that topic.
Ich habe mir einen brewing control gebaut mit Sonoff Th elite (hat ein display).Es funkioniert aber das display an dem Sonoff zeigt nichts an.Ich wolte das ich die temperatur mit handy und mit dem display verfolgen kann.Wen du was über Sonoff TH Elite meher weist las uns wissen.Wielen dank für die guten videos.
You mean the COM Port flasher? This can be removed. But you cannot remove the main uC of the Sonoff (the ESP32). I just left the cables in case I want to flash a new software in the future (so I don't have to open the case again). Cheers
The TH elite will work (excluding the display) with the software above. The Sonoff basic will work with this binary drive.google.com/file/d/1luXWEV ... sp=sharing - for install instructions checkout my other video
@@BernhardSchlegel it works, but it also gives me the reading of the probe (even if it does not have the temperature probe present). I just use the actuator only. thanks!
Awesome ! Very clear, and well done !
Thanks for the kind words! Happy brewing

Oh, and would you mind giving the repo a star? ❤️
You forgot to remove the serial cable again. You only need to flash it once.

Wire end ferrul is the way to go.
How about STC1000? Cheaper Easier More functions
Great tutorial! Can you please clarify how I set the jumper to 3V3?

@@BernhardSchlegel Helped a lot.... Super tks
can you use the device if there no WIFI conection in the area? brewing in the basement for example
WiFi and internet are required. Worst case you need to get a used repeater for $20.
Hi Bernhard. Thanks for yours tutorials. Only a question. Is it the same for model THR320D? Flash, conections, etc. Many thanks
Yep, the 16A version works as well!
Great work! Can the relay in the Sonoff be used with PWM control? I'm guessing that's how it's used for boil control? Cheers!

Display wird (noch) nicht unterstützt, wenn du dafür einen Pull Request einreichen willst: sehr gerne!
awesome tutorial! does the ESP32 have to stay on the sonoff after flashing is complete or can i remove it?

Hi bernardo, does it also work with TH Elite and BasicR2?
thanks for your tutorials!
