1st year med student here. Thanks a lot for this video. Sometimes our professors think we all start from some form of Neuro base however some of us dont such as myself. And breaking it down to first principles as you have done was very very helpful. Thanks again
This video helped me a lot especially the simplistic illustration of the pathway from the cerebral cortex to the facial muscles. The questions at the end solidified my understanding. Thank you loads. I wish you the best in all your endeavors for helping us all to get this.
Wow thank you explain that for me and I searched about 10 videos already and I can’t understand it and now I understand it and only five minutes thank you
Excellent video! : explanation A, diagrams B+, Synthesis A-, Background Music C+, Questions at the end A+. I really enjoyed watching your video seems to be helpful specially if you're taking Neurology Course. I encourage you to keep doing this amazing job. Thanks!
Great video! Love how you structured everything. General definitions, main explanation and then an optional tutorial at the end! Shokran! (that's thank you in arabic) :)
First of all thanks for this video, its a great help! However at 2:51 I think you have a slight mix up Having an UMN lesion on the right side of the brain causes the contralateral side of LMN not to work properly (meaning you cant smile on the left side of the face)..If i got that correctly, however your video states in the small box.. 'Unable to smile on affected side, but can raise both eyebrows'.. In fact you are able to smile on the affected side, however not on the contralateral side (unaffected).. Please correct me if I'm wrong, since its not the easiest topic anyways! Best regards, Chris
Hi Christian Decker, thank you for your comment. Your comment is correct. It is a confusing topic, isn't it? The "affected side" in the comment box in the video at 2:51 was suppose to mean the 'clinically evident' affected side. Hence, if you were the health professional seeing the patient the affected side clinically would be the left but the pathophysiologically the lesion would be on the right (if it was a UMN lesion). Hopefully, that makes sense. May I also comment on how good your learning technique must be to identify this issue. It shows you are engaging a "deep learning style" (John Biggs).
Everytime affected side is reference to the observation from the clinician point of view. Patient always come with the complain, we have to diagnose which side is affected therefore always go from clinical presentation to the side of lession.
