Upper and Lower Motor Neuron Lesions | UMN vs LMN, Differences and Mnemonic
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- Lesson on differences between Upper and Lower Motor Neuron Lesions. Upper motor neurons (UMN) are located within the brain and brainstem and send their axons down the spinal cord to innervate lower motor neurons (LMN). Lower motor neurons (LMN) are located within the ventral horn of the spinal cord and send their axons towards the periphery to innervate skeletal muscles. Lesions in upper and lower motor neurons have characteristic differences.
In this lesson you will learn what upper motor neurons and lower motor neurons are, where they are located in the central nervous system and what happens when their is a lesion or damage to them. You will also learn the reason for the characteristic differences between lesions in UMN and LMN.

JAYSUS CHRIST!!!! I spent so much time googling this 10 years ago in medical school and now this has so beautifully been explained. Thank you so much. Now it's permanently in my head.
That means even after your medical studies u still didn't know the basic of LMN and UMN lesions
@@universaltruth2555 how'd you miss the point of this post?
Believe in Buddhawaja (Buddha words). After done meditation correctly, I got it event am not medical student at all within a short breathing moment.
thank you for making UMN/LMN lesions so much easier to understand and absorb!!
Thank you SO much for this video. I've watched several videos before this one and it finally clicked for me because you explained it so well.
This is the best video i have seen on difference between UMN and LMN lesions... Thankyouu for thia wonderful explanation ❤️❤️
This was very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to explain it. I always found this confusing in neuro, but after watching your video, i'm not exactly sure why!
The mark of a good educator is taking complicated things and simplifying them, which is exactly what you did. Thank you!
1 year ago I was diagnosed of MND and I have tried all I can to get cured but all to no avail, until i saw a post in a health forum about a herbalist man who prepare herbal medication to cure all kind of diseases including MND , at first i doubted if it was real but decided to give it a try, when i contact this herbalist via his email and he prepared an MND herbal cure and sent it to me via UPS delivery company service, when i received this herbal cure, he gave me step by directions on how to apply it, when i applied it as instructed, i was totally cured of this deadly disease within 5 months of usage, I am now free from MND ,all thanks to Dr Joshua Ighalo. you can also reach this great herbal doctor for help . He can help get rid of yours permanently.. Also specialize in treating all kinds of illness, HERPES VIRUS, HEPATITIS B, CANCER, BRAIN DISEASE, INFERTILITY, DIABETES AND MORE. ....
Thanks for this video. The way my professor laid it out it sounded so confusing, but your lecture was incredibly clear to the point where I wonder why I didn't get it before. Throughout the whole video, I just kept saying "why the heck didn't she just explain it like that?" What a difference a good teacher makes!
That exactly describes my experience!
This was quite possibly the best explanation I have seen of this. Thank you very much!

Hey Bharath! Thanks for the comment :) You are very welcome. Glad it was helpful!
Very nice explanation
Thanks for explaining this as I finally understand how they present. This may sound dumb for me asking..My only confusion was at the end so if the babinski sign for LMN is negative or normal sign is how you put it. How do you know if it is a LMN affected?
Well explained ✌️
Thank you so much
Thankyou so much ☺️
Best video ever ❤️❤️❤️
Good one. Thanks a lot
Terrific video, really helpful. I'd suggest an edit though, negative Babinski's sign is not a correct term, use absent sign or flexor plantar response instead.
In positive fanning of fingers and extension of great toe is positive then quite opposite to that will make the sign negative...
Qq
I don’t think so
Then what if none of the lesions is present..what about Babinski sign then?
Amazing ❤ thank you
What a king 👏🏻
Good video super
Thank you sir
Excellent 👌 tnx you Sir... long live...
super video
You are a blessing
Wow thank you soooo much
Wonderful 👍👍
Beutiful explanation
very clear! highly recommendedI benefitted a great deal! One little thing, apha and beta motor neurons are lower motor ones, right? They are not upper motor neuron, I suppose.

Great video thank you very much:)
You are welcome!
Thank u .. this video really helped me
But I need to ask .. How toes give downward reflex in LMNL ? I mean without innervation ?
Thank you, I have a question. Please can you explain why the muscle below the affected anterior horn in LMN gets spastic after the injury?
Amazing ♥️😍🌷
Thanks
Brilliant
So say with the bibinski test if it points up can that mean an obstruction anywhere along the cord
perfect !
Perfect..
great
thank you thank you thank you
Thankkkk u
Thanks. but Lower motor neuron conditions like polio and muscular dystrophies have more Atrophy compared than the Disuse atrophy from UMN conditions
I LOVE YOU

ممتاز لبه قلبك
🔥🔥🔥
In a lower motor neurone lesion, surely the plantar reflex is absent rather than downing as it would be in a 'normal' person.
if you mention the loosing muscular mass in each lesion the video will be much better
💥💥🥶
Increase speed to 1.25× 😶
Thank you😊
What if there's no Babinski's sign or flexor plantar after trying to stimulation along the line?I am alive.
the "about" revealed your Canadian
Thanks
