The reason it didn't fit right and was kinking is because you skipped a crucial step. You're supposed to cut the console support first and there's a template for it.

I am actually doing this now for a customer but cannot find where to get the template to print off!
On the brp website under owners section I believe
Once you find instructions , scroll to the bottom and there's a hard to find link there to open templates
