Blackbraid and Hellripper joint headline tour. I'll leave it in your hands Blayne.
OMFG!! You just mentioned this dude!! It's another planet alltoghether, so not sure if it work: I would go to a Blackbraid gig to get stoned and "float" in the music (Note: I only need a beer for that as I barely drink and don't smoke)... but Hellripper definitely calls for a mosh.
I would like:
* Wolves in the Throne Room + Blackbraid
* Hellripper + Cruel Force
Cruel Force rules
A similar tour style they just did with 200 Stab Wounds,Cattle décapitation and Dark Funeral
It was a fun mix of style
Please!!! And make them play in London next spring

This album is a glimpse into the future of American black metal. Fantastic front to back.
Feeling a lot of mid-era Immortal influence here as well, which I'm totally in for.
😂 Good one.. All we needed was "A Native American Batushka"... There is lots of great American Bm bands, but this guy ain't one of them..
Guess I live under a rock, had never heard of it til this morninig on a forum. Holy hell, this is good. As a big fan of Agalloch, this works so well for me.
The sheer amount of talent in this dude is astonishing. Both albums are AWESOME, and that first single? Holy fuck, blew me away
Mid
Oh,Please.
I'm a death/thrash fan but Blackbraid has turned me into a huge fan of this. Love both albums!!
Yeah, I feel like thrash and death metal fans would like this album based upon the riffs! More power to ya'.
same
I've been mostly listening to doom for the last few years, but BlackBraid I has been in the rotation for the last year. Love it.
@@devenscience8894 I could feel some doom influence on the last song on Blackbraid I. More power to ya', bud! 🤘
Hellripper and Blackbraid would be an interesting collaboration.
Wode would be cool too
this guy has got me more jazzed about metal than i've been since the dawning of Mgla
This album just seems to be a step above. The spirit returns just sticks in my head all day long. It's damn good
Thumbs up for the Astartes reference!!! Great comparison!
Even though Twilight Hymn of Ancient Blood is quite different from the rest, it is such a killer track! As a huge fan of death/thrash/black, this whole album is just incredible! And fully independent! Kudos to Jon! Keep it coming!!
It's the best song on the album in my opinion. The rest of the album kind of runs together as sounding the same.
I agree. The song kinda woke me up when listening to the whole album. It's great.
Blew me away with how many parts of the songs grabbed me. I was a tad nervous about the runtime but clearly Blackbraid is on top of his game. Love the whole thing, absolutely my favorite artist and albums out of the last couple years.
Already a big supporter of this band. That hoodie on his bandcamp is 🔥🔥 had to buy that and the 'spirit' varient on vinyl 🤘
Definitely on the Blackbraid train. Cant wait to be able to pick this one up!
If Fire in the Mountains returns having Blackbraid be on is a no brainer.
I don’t even think the band’s all that good and I still agree with you! There’s something about his aesthetic that just fits with that festival perfectly.
Blackbraid is hands down my favorite new artist and honestly one of my favorite artists period. I've honestly never given so much of my money to a single artist either. I bought a cassette, cd and both variants of the first pressing vinyls of Blackbraid I, I ordered a cassette, cd and both variants of vinyl of Blackbraid II, I have 2 different long sleeves, 2 different t-shirts, 2 different hoodies, patches, and posters, and I'm pretty sure I'm still forgetting a few things. So needless to say I'm a literal Blackbraid addict. 🤣
Lately Blackbraid is practically the only band Ive been listening to. There's Blackbraid, then there's everyone else lol.
Hi Blayne, great review and I'm totally in sync with you. When i first heard Blackbraid - I last year I was totaly blown away and was by no fluke one of my top albums of 2022. When I heard that there was going to be a follow up so shortly after the first, expectations were high and Jon did not dissapoint at all. On the contrary, he delivered more than I was expecting and hoping for! I've only given this new album one spin, and I know this album is going to be in the top spots of my albums of the year once more. Once again thanks for the heads up on the first album last year, the ride has been totally worth every second. The artwork, once again does not dissapoint at all, in fact surrasses the first album as well...The weekend is here and I need Blackbraid in my veins...🖤🤘🖤
I preordered the record, have the OG record, have a patch, got a shirt, and met the dude. Blackbraid is fucking awesome. This or Cattle Decapitation's Terrasite might be album of the year for me!
The fact that both of these band recently toured together blows my mind. It was such an amazing show.
@@SpiderJerusalemJr it really was a fantastic evening
Got both of those albums, got 2 blackbraid shirts. Blackbraid and Cattle decap for sure records of the year.
Love Blackbraid, saw them on the Decibel Tour and they were insane live too. I just hope he doesnt keep doing a release every year, I think a lot of bands that keep that pace burn out quick.
On multiple levels I love Black Braid. Being an avid Adirondack hiker and Upstate New Yorker it feels good knowing that Black Braid represents my personal interests. More importantly its just good music. This review makes me more interested
I grew up in a mountainous area of new york. western ny southern tier. Not quite as nice as the Adirondacks but still awesome mountain scenery and great hiking trails. Blackbraid speaks to me as well.
loved this project from the get go but with adding some dudes from our local scene here in LA to hold down the guitar duties is the chefs kiss to an already amazing project
Loved This Album!!!! The Wolf That Guides was my favorite song on the album
I think Blackbraid and Hellripper would be an insane collab.
I just got around to the first album about a month or so ago after having had it on my "to listen later" list for... quite awhile. Loved it. So this is gonna get a listen as well, or more likely several.
Just spent £40 buying this on Bandcamp today.
So good.. Dropped $45 for the vinyl and was happy to do it. Got to see him with Darkfuneral and he was the best part of that long night of music. Can't wait till there is a headlining tour!
I love that part on The Wolf That Guides the Hunters Hand too
Fyi , Pan Amerikan Native Front , Ifernach ,etc did it first though
They did it First AND Better. MILES better
@@cthuludreams1 so true
Blayne is a moron I fear. Shame those acts are getting overlooked for this shit it's not even like Blayne did the due diligence. I hate how this mediocre band is getting hype
John + Austin from Panopticon + James McBain yes please
Hells, yes! So hyped for this! Sounds amazing!
Instant purchase. Been blasting Blackbraid I since release during pre-dawn drives to go climb or hike mountains and this new album will soon be doing the same -- I welcome the longer length!
Yes I am on the Blackbraid train. They are my current favorite band 🤘
This is a fantastic album. This guy can write songs. I'm in.
This dude got me liking black metal. Great review, bud
Listened once and immediately pressed replay. Such a good album!
Love how precise it is.
Wounded Funeral, Lunar Spells, Through the Spatial dimensions, Beltez, The mosaic Window, Varhsaw, Grethor, Silencer, imprerathrom DAMN GOOD BLACK METAL 🤘🤘
*_KITTY!!!!_*
The Spirit Returns is one of the best black metal songs I've ever heard. There's def something special about Blackbraid.
Just finished listening to my 'Moss and Bone' variant for the first time. Yeah... this is formidable music - no doubt.
Definitely looking forward to sitting down and listening to this one.
I bought both albums and love them a lot; how did I not know this was just one guy!?!? Insane respect!
This album is Amazing!!!!!!!
I'm a huge fan of old school Black Metal with the classics and usually don't listen to alot of the newer stuff. However, Blackbraid has blown me away along with a few other newer acts such as Kanonenfieber. Dude is good at what he does and I'm all about it!
I'm going to check out Kanonenfieber!
The album closes with an epic Bathory cover, respect.
I’m not gonna claim I discovered blackbraid but I did catch him on bandcamp and shared that shit with my boys. But yeah I’ll take some credit for his success.
I'm hearing some Black Anvil in this album. Definitely not a bad thing! Great album so far 🤘🏼
Looking forward to this! Blackbraid I is amazing!
I fucking love Witch Hawk! What a cool dude.I haven't been so excited about a black metal release ever.
great album wish them all the success please do Vomitory all heads are gonna roll
A wonderful album an absolute masterpiece!! I can't fault it at all and has AOTY written all over it!!
Not that I'm asking for anything super different but I also am not hearing anything really memorable.
It's a good record for sure no complaints on the end of making solid straight forward black metal. But I kind of feel like I'm listening to immortal with some native American influenced interludes.
I wouldn't skip it on the mix but I wouldn't go out of my way for the album
just saw this band tonight so so good
Just came back from checking out the preview tracks on that Gateway album. Somehow strongly reminds me of Esoctrilihum's Eternity of Shaog, despite being a very different subgenre? Excellent listen, regardless.
After I listened to it over on the Black Metal Promotion channel yesterday, this second Blackbraid album is alright, just like the first one. I heard a lot of Marduk, Slayer, Sargeist and even some blackgaze influences across its hour-long runtime. Also, the drums sound weirdly programmed despite using a real drummer (maybe Jon was lying about that; he wouldn't be the first black metal musician to do so). The Bathory cover is OK, but screaming the opening instead of singing it (like Quorthon did) didn't work for me. Overall, there are far better black metal records coming out this year than this one... but it's definitely not the worst thing I've ever heard. I could see this being a gateway album for many much like Sunbather was for me back in the day.
I remember enjoying the first record but it didn't really grab me. I've had this one on repeat all weekend. SLAYS.
By no means a perfect album but yes, three pretty insane songs (Moss/Wolves/Song of death).
Did bristle at the thrash elements that brought the album to a close
This album makes me like Black Metal
Great sound quality and the atmospherics are amazing!
Blackbraid II is probably gonna end up being my Album of the Year for this year, tbh, it's a fantastic record that I have no complaints at all about.
Also, based "Astartes" mention and GW dragging. lol.
A great review of a brilliant artist
I saw Blackbraid at Copenhell and it was awesome!
I'm on the bandwagon, this is such a cool band! Hope you review new Fossilization record when it hits later this year!
Oh, I'm on the train, Blayne. I'm the conductor!
Can’t wait for my copy!!!
Awesome album fantastic talent 💯💯💯💯🤘🤘🤘
Ok, it is true that Blackbraid is an outstanding emerging black metal act that is receiving lots of attention worlwide. However, it is also worth mentioning another North American black metal act that in my opinion is way more profilic than Blackbraid. It is Witches Forest, they have released 3 full-lenght only this year. The native American influences are more present than in Blackbraid, maybe the production is more raw and low-fi but Witches Forest deserves some spotlight for its effort.
Yes! I knew this was going to come out today.
Thanks, Blayne.
I really enjoyed BB1 and the follow-up sounds like more of the same, which is absolutely fine.
Your comments about bias were welcome too. Aside from the completely subjective nature of reviewing art, does it count as "bias" if you just really like the art? I think not.
A bias accusation can be leveled if there is a personal connection between reviewer and artist or a financial gain to the reviewer (from the art or the artist)... if you just like something alot, that's not bias. It's fair to say that if a band I already like releases an album I really *want* to love it (but it doesn't always pan out), which is a bias, but in the end I either like or I don't. You'd lose credibility pretty quickly if you stumped for BB2 even if it wasn't that good just because you're great mates with the artist or they're paying you.
This album is incredible. Anyone know the logo on Blayne's hat?
Worm - "Foreverglade"
Brutal and beautiful. The perfect combo. Speaking of which... None review when?
I absolutely love this album, but I have to admit that when Twilight kicked in for the first time (I was showering) I had to triple-take thinking "Did Austrian Death Machine just kicked in accidentally"? 🤣
Fantastic, and the new Fen is another winner.
Fucking awesome for the Warhammer40K call out .... LOL love it :D
Deep stuff, thanks! 🤘

Moosegut when
When the biggest critique you can make of an album is that a track as killer as 'Twilight Hymn Of Ancient Blood' feels a little out of place, that's a sign of something special.
Such a good listen.
The Native American elements are what I love about Black Braid
This album freakin' rips! Totally deserves all the hype.
First Blackbraid album took me 3 months to realize that it was epic and outstanding. I got a feeling this might take awhile again to sink in.
New kanonenfeiber live album is great and the new panopticon track is 🔥🔥
Probably the album of the year for me.
This is promossig a lot, because album 1 promissed and delivered A LOT! I will actually try to buy this in physical format.
This band rips. That. Is. All. 🔥🤘
What's the name of the band on his cap?
"everyone should buy this record." ok, :) \m/
Blackbraid is soooo good
I like what I've heard. The first record is pretty good and the band was great live. But I'm not spending $45 on any record
11:48 was that a needle drop dig?
I preferred the 1st album, personally.
First album had already set a high bar, this has exceeded expectations honestly 🖤
"he went from not making black metal to becoming one of black metals shining stars" 🤡🤡🤡🤡
I get metal cravings
Bottom line: The fatct that two mainstream outlets like Rolling Stone features this project means that the music is pretty accessible and easy to the ear. Which in this case is a compliment which means that it has qualities that not only appeal to the most hardcore of death / black metal fans (like me). Me wife loved the cover art, but I have yet to expose her to the music.
For me the first video release of Blackbraid II "Moss covered bones..." felt like a lighthing strike, you know, when you start listening to a song and it feels like "Fuck!! This is Good!". My only deception was when I went to the web shop to get the vinil and learned it wasn't released yet. BUT I got myself the first one, which is no less awesome.
I wathced a few interviews with Sgah'gahsowáh and I think that one of the keys in his success is that the dude knows his metal. He is a true metalhead, not just some Goth trying to make black metal. Which is not bad either, mind you, I love the cross-pollination that is going on in modern black metal, how modern nerdy goth kids are giving the whole thing new spins inspired in fantasy and the such. But here we are speaking about somebody who's creation if fully born in the realm of metal. Sgah'gahsowáh interprets Native American lore in the language of black metal, distilling an unique and intoxicating brew. A far cry from other projects that try to force something into death or black metal with the result of a mere gimmick, fun at times, mostly annoying.
And that's the problem. Rolling Stones, New York Times, Social Media everywhere. This isn't black metal.
@morbidcorpse5954 nah it's black metal it's just mediocre and uninteresting. Better acts have done this before.
@@ThatOneGuy7550 Its certainly well produced. However, I think Blackbraid backed the band in a corner. The Native American angle is popular with people who may lean more towards hard rock/traditional metal or melodic black metal. But people are going to be expecting the Native American angle every release, and eventually they'll grow tired of it.
@morbidcorpse5954 That's a fair assessment I think
Blowing up too much for me
Hey why is this or her tail so odd ? Talking about the cat lol lol lol 😂
Sounds kinda too rock&roll. Anyway, I like it
If it wasn’t for the indigenous shtick this would be looked at as the most mid tier bullshit.
I agree! Not to mention that there has been indigenous themed metal and heavy music played by Six Nations peoples for a long time before these guys (or guy, I should say) showed up. Pan-Amerikan Native Front, Lionoka, Joey Belladonna from Anthrax, Chuck Billy from Testament, Gyibaaw, Ifernach, Mi’Gauss... The list goes on and on.
