Lyrics: The Spirit Returns
On ancient winds
A spell bestowed
To part the seas
And crack the sky
A burning spear
To pierce the shroud
Of malice wrought
Their vengeful spirits cry
By night they ride
On winds of war
A vein of fire
Ignites the sky
The song of fate
Grows louder now
Within our hearts
Their fallen spirits thrive
Within our hearts their fallen spirits thrive
To ride out
On rolling thunder
Bathed in ancient blackened majesty
Sacred spell of retribution
Cast in shadow, torn from the forlorn fabrics of time
A vision of fate
Reflected in the mirror of death
You will know my name
You shall know my name

Blackbraids riffs and atmosphere are exactly what I have been looking for when it comes to metal.
Love the Ad Infinitum shirt by the way...
Thank you
Yes, Blackbraid! Awesome first album. Goosebumps at 4:02.
Yeah. You can definitely hear heart and emotion in his vocals and music. It's actually a very moving experience. I will support Witch Hawk in everything. Cool dude.
The second Blackbraid lp culminates in one of the best executed Bathory covers ever, this artist is amazing.
This song always gives me an emotional reaction, so much passion in the song, it's brutally beautiful
First album is amazing! Moss covered bones on the alter of the Moon is a great new track too. The second half of the song is Godly imo. Blackbraid live is on another level !
I’m surprised people don’t like the native influences. I hope he leans into it more. I really enjoyed that influence on I and hope it’s incorporated more on II. The atmosphere it added was incredible to me.
He's a grifter and industry plant. Born and raised in NYC, not pagan, only associates with city dwellers, paid the New York Time for a positive article. And in his spare time while he's not selling a false image, he's a racist full-time on his social media and attacking Czech security guards for being European, then claims they are "racist"...
I actually wanted to suggest this Band to you today and there you are, already uploaded a reaction just a few hours before I checked your channel. :D
I've been a fan of Blackbraid for some months now and I'm fascinated by native American culture and traditions. I'm also a huge fan of Black Metal by now. Seeing those two interests combined is freakin amazing and refreshing in the scene.
I can totally relate to your opinion on using your heritage in your music and I have so much respect for people who combine metal-genres with their native music/culture/traditions. I think it helps other people to take interest in their history and culture. Maybe that's why his music feels welcoming in a way. So in the end I agree to all you've said and I am looking forward to discover new Bands that include their heritage in their music.
I'm really happy you share Blackbraid through your channel and I'm excited to where Blackbraid is going from here.
Much love and thank you guys
We beat you to it
Blackbraid I is one of the best debut albums I have heard in a long time and the two new songs "The Spirit Returns" and "Moss Covered Bones On The Altar Of The Moon" from his sophomore album sound just as good. You need to read the lyrics to Sgah’gahsowáh's music and really appreciate what he is creating, to me it is pure art at its finest. It is extremely refreshing to see music fans being exposed to indigenous cultures in this way and I think bands like Blackbraid, Sepultura, Amon Amarth, The Hu and Alien Weaponry continue doing what they do because we can learn so much about other people and their culture.
The black twilight circle did it before and didn’t asked for money lol
Except I'd replace Amon Amarth with Thyrfing for a more authentic experiance. AA has nothing in common with the other bands. And yes, AA will always be my first love since I saw them live the first time in 2001
“A door into a world that’s not mine was being opened.” Great observation in one of your best reactions since the channel began. I, too, feel that Blackbraid’s music opens a door for me to enter in and understand Native American culture and lament a little better. Thanks, guys, for a truly great reaction.
Love this track, thanks for reacting. On another note, maybe let us know about the T-shirts you choose to rep, that phallus monument surrounded by skulls, quite nice...
The band Cemican (song - Mixteco)draws upon Aztec mythology and a wide gamut of traditional instrumentation to create their aggressive brand of folk metal. Nechowen is Lenape, Testify is Navajo in New Mexico.
Excellent band (musician) 👌
From the thumbnail i was wondering if it will be some Brazilian band, trying to repeat Soulfly success with "Prophecy" music video.
I ended up with Norther vibes.
Also the band name contains "braid" word, and since i see myself as braids lover ( the longer the better ) i consider it personal win-win.
Cool ! Great looking band, and I say that as a 98% straight man. Excellent melo-black sound and a great video. The album looks awesome too. A great discovery guys ! Canada \m/\m/ !!!
I once saw a documentary about Native American metal bands and there even seems to be a festival. But the bands don’t get very big but it was years ago when I saw that documentary.
Absolutely awesome!
The falling in reverse laptop joke 😂👌🏼
i think it speaks volumes that nothing needed to be said this entire song (minus the cough at 6) just the metal face and head movement! fuckin a this is exactly how i heard this song for the first time.
Dang, y’all fell off my radar when I reset my YT history. I was jamming Blackbraid and curious if folks have checked it out. Glad y’all enjoyed it. I’ll be checking out the interview.
This band to me has such emotion and a raw energy. It seeps through their music. I love to listen to avant-grade stuff which I appreciate because of the art, but bands like Blackbraid reflect the emotional aspect of metal.
If you wanna check out (on your own time, no need for on the channel unless you’d like to) Wóohitike by Maȟpíya Lúta. They’re another indigenous group singing in their native tongue and sharing pieces of their history. They slipped through the cracks last year but released a killer album.
Glad to be back 🤘💚
Fuckin excellent, just got back from northern Arizona trip.. traveled down the majestic valley from Flagstaff to Sedona to Phoenix then I find blackbraid randomly on Liquid XM. So fitting as that portion of the state is Navajo nation and this song plus the video backdrop takes me right back to what I witnessed there. Excellent band, halfway through the original album but couldn't resist reacting with you all.
His voice reminds me a lot of Jari's style.
Well, as much as I appreciate the new songs, I can't stop thinking it's a bit overhyped though...
Everyone seems to think BB is like the spearhead of Native BM scene, but I feel people tend to forget there was plenty of (even more) talented bands before him, such as "Ifernach", "Pan Amerikan Native Front", "Nechochwen", "Gyibaaw" or "Blue Hummingbird on the Left".
Actually, it painfully reminds me the same situation as with the Mongol metal scene: a crazy hype about "The Hu", completely forgetting that "Tengger Cavalry", "Nine Treasures", "Hanggai" and "Ego Fall" were here waaaaay before them...
Anyway, it remains enjoyable, won't say the opposite...
There already are Aztec and Mayan bands.
The Maya civilization disappeared around the year 900 CE; some of their cities were in ruins by the time Spanish arrived in the 1600s. The Aztec, also referred to as the Mexica, began as a group of nomadic peoples who settled on Lake Texcoco in central Mexico around the year 1325...
@@Kernought cool history lesson, whats it have to do with this?
I'll tell you some constructive criticism about the album right here: it was fucking short, the actual black metal was enough for an EP, 4 songs, the rest was acoustic stuff that I always skip. I'm one of those people that hates interludes and intros or outros, I came here for the black metal. So your mileage may vary. Music was great though.
As a native, aboriginal is an ok term to use 😂😂😂
Blackbraid I > Blackbraid II
Sound alright but the vocals need to be turned up it’s like the instruments are overpowering the vocals too much
Weird that either no one noticed or cared that the drummer does not know the song whatsoever 🤣🤣
