Some really nice cats. Sorry you lost your rig. Better days ahead.
Thanks bud. And yeah it happens. luckily it wasn't my abu, that reel now costs over $200. That would have been a real expensive trip then. Haha
Good action/video and scenery to look at while waiting for a bite. I understand the pleasure boaters. Claim waters and fair winds to you.
Thanks, and yeah, they'll be off the water soon
Brandon My name is Mike Lockhart I am from Odessa Missouri . This is the first time that I ever watched your videos .
Glad to have you hope you enjoyed the video make sure to check out some of my other videos, and leave a like and a sub! They help a lot!
Just ran across your channel, tiny Jon Boat fishing? I am in! I rock a 10fter myself. I think of her as a kayak with more room for comfort and gear.
Welcome aboard! yeah that sounds about right lol
I bought a used seaark 1860 with good electronics and all I catch are dinks lol
Helps to know what your doing but I’m learning your videos help a lot and eventually I hope to catch my first big cat! Thanks for putting them out
It just takes time on the water, learning how to read lake maps helps a lot too. Idk if you have Navionics or not, but it will help a lot. Find creek mouths, creeks, steep drop-offs, holes, wonky contours with a lot of contour change, and just experiment. Starting on your next trip, note the time of day, month and year. weather conditions, water temp, current if you fish rivers, barometric pressure, cold front or no cold front. How many days before or after a cold front. Etc. Do that every trip for a year. Take note of your style of fishing, is it working or not. If not try something different, if you're not getting any luck, try different bait, if you start getting more bites take note of which bait. Maybe they want a smaller cut, maybe they want live, maybe they want a body section, maybe a head piece, maybe they want, a body section with no gut pocket. Always try different things. Fish are funny and will never be fully mastered by anyone, just because they have a mind of their own, and we never know what they want, because well we can't read minds lol. As for the boat.... ill trade ya hahaha
Also where do you fish? Are there big cats in the waters you're fishing?
I have a set of those exact reels great reels for the price
Yeah I like to test my reels by leaving one out in the weather and seeing how well it holds up. I've had 2 out in the rain sleet snow and 5°f temps. For about 6 months now. Still work like new. Definitely a bang for the buck
Could you go over the parts you used for the boat? I have a John boat and don’t know how to set it up. Please could you make a walkthrough of your boat?
Check out my channel bud. Got a video on it. Hope it helps you out. Happy fishing!
Here it is 2:00am an im up watching your vid dedicated sub lol
Haha, awesome man! I'm about to hit the hay myself, hope you enjoyed the vid!
@@JonBoatRiverCats always do brother besides im jon boat kind of guy
Heck yeah bo. Glad to have you here!
@@JonBoatRiverCats whats your e mail send u a pic of my rig set up
Great catch you really need to invest into a little bit bigger boat at least a 14/36
Thanks man! and yes I know I really wouldn't mind a 1648. People just think they're made of gold these days. But I am working on saving for one.
Brandon you caught nice blues but are they dark because the water is so dark 🤔🤟
The water is actually pretty clear here I can usually see pretty far down. Some think its water clarity, some think it's the depth in which fish hang out mostly ( shallow=darker deeper=lighter) and some think it's just genetics. I tend to think its 1-part depth and 1-part genetics. I don't think water clarity has much to do with color. Thats just my opinion
Treble hook an start dragging
Problem is I never saw it happen, so I didn't know where to start. I was a quarter mile upstream before I noticed it missing.
R.I.P. 😐 But some nice cats!!! 👍
The crappy part is I didn't even see it fly out lol. it wasn't till I came to a stop that I noticed one missing. But yes it was a great day fishing wise. Fishing is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get haha.
I must have just missed you, put the kayak in about 5:45 Saturday afternoon. Sucks about your rod.
Yeah, I had enough of the wake boats, plus id been out there about 8hrs, no breakfast or lunch. I was tired lol. And that's another reason I didn't get more Abu 7000's. I'd be dishing out $300 for a new rig instead of $160. Catfish Life..
@@JonBoatRiverCats I got a Diawa Seagate 35 a little while back. It's about the same size as a 7000, for half that price.
Do you fish the Cumberland river or KY lake?
Never fished for cats outside of NC or VA. I definitely have a list of out of state lakes and rivers to hit up in the future.
Caught some nice fish , sorry about losing your rig . What do you think of the piscifun reels I've been thinking of trying them
Well to start I keep my rods and reels out in the weather 99% of the time. Thats my test on equipment, that's how i determine what product to stick with... Can I leave it out in the elements, and it still hold up.... I must say they're holding up pretty well. They might make a little noise when I cast or reel, then again, I keep mine out in the rain. But for a cheap amazon reel, I'm impressed. Will they hold up like my $200 Abu? probably not. But they've been outside since I bought them. pulled in a 25lb'r no problem, and if you keep your rigs inside, they should last a lifetime. The Abu Garcia 7000 has been cleaned and re greased once and has been outside for almost 2 years. no issues with the reel whatsoever. So, with all that said. If you keep your rigs inside, in climate-controlled conditions. I have no doubt you'll like the Piscifun. I like the 50's. Still has the push button like the CatMaxx, but has 20 pounds max drag. perfect for catfishing. They look good they're lightweight, and tough. I popped the little plastic piece off the spool to make it easier to line the spool. Glad you enjoyed the vid Got a replacement reel on the way. just got to pick up a new rod.
@@JonBoatRiverCats thanks for the info appreciate it
Shame you lost a rod. It's aggravating about all the boats to. Caught a lot of nice fish
Yeah I've got a new reel ordered should be here tomorrow, just have to pick up a new rod next time I'm up near VA. The boats were relentless. I edited out a lot of my frustration haha. But yes a great day fishing wise for sure.
What pound line do u use on them piscifun reels i have the 50 and yhe 60. I sometime feel a grind in my reels. I have 40 lb mono on the chaos 50 and 50 kb mono on the 60. Bought the reels beand new from the company
I use 40 lb SlimeLine on the 50s make sure your bait clicker is disengaged all the way. Could be a factory defect also. It happens luckily I haven't had an issue with any of mine
@@JonBoatRiverCats might be the clicker like u said. It only happens every once in awhile but the info should be helpful. Thank u
@@rickbeatty2766 I have accidentally moved the clicker while reeling, towards the clicking position and it makes a grinding noise. Also have found that my thumb was still partially on the thumb release when starting to reel, and that also made a grinding noise.
I'm up here working around Creedmoor nc I fish gaston kerr and falls lake alot where do you put in at the river I'd like to try it ?
If I told you, everyone and their brother would be up there lol. I fish the tailrace into Gaston. Thats your only hint.
@@JonBoatRiverCats
Alright I don't blame you there lol thanks tho love your channel
@@dilloncoursey1725 glad you like the channel bud. Second hint it's the only ramp on the tailrace
