      It just takes time on the water, learning how to read lake maps helps a lot too. Idk if you have Navionics or not, but it will help a lot. Find creek mouths, creeks, steep drop-offs, holes, wonky contours with a lot of contour change, and just experiment. Starting on your next trip, note the time of day, month and year. weather conditions, water temp, current if you fish rivers, barometric pressure, cold front or no cold front. How many days before or after a cold front. Etc. Do that every trip for a year. Take note of your style of fishing, is it working or not. If not try something different, if you're not getting any luck, try different bait, if you start getting more bites take note of which bait. Maybe they want a smaller cut, maybe they want live, maybe they want a body section, maybe a head piece, maybe they want, a body section with no gut pocket. Always try different things. Fish are funny and will never be fully mastered by anyone, just because they have a mind of their own, and we never know what they want, because well we can't read minds lol. As for the boat.... ill trade ya hahaha

      Yeah I like to test my reels by leaving one out in the weather and seeing how well it holds up. I've had 2 out in the rain sleet snow and 5°f temps. For about 6 months now. Still work like new. Definitely a bang for the buck

    Brandon you caught nice blues but are they dark because the water is so dark 🤔🤟

    • @JonBoatRiverCats
      @JonBoatRiverCats  Рік тому

      The water is actually pretty clear here I can usually see pretty far down. Some think its water clarity, some think it's the depth in which fish hang out mostly ( shallow=darker deeper=lighter) and some think it's just genetics. I tend to think its 1-part depth and 1-part genetics. I don't think water clarity has much to do with color. Thats just my opinion

      Yeah, I had enough of the wake boats, plus id been out there about 8hrs, no breakfast or lunch. I was tired lol. And that's another reason I didn't get more Abu 7000's. I'd be dishing out $300 for a new rig instead of $160. Catfish Life..

    Caught some nice fish , sorry about losing your rig . What do you think of the piscifun reels I've been thinking of trying them

    • @JonBoatRiverCats
      @JonBoatRiverCats  Рік тому +1

      Well to start I keep my rods and reels out in the weather 99% of the time. Thats my test on equipment, that's how i determine what product to stick with... Can I leave it out in the elements, and it still hold up.... I must say they're holding up pretty well. They might make a little noise when I cast or reel, then again, I keep mine out in the rain. But for a cheap amazon reel, I'm impressed. Will they hold up like my $200 Abu? probably not. But they've been outside since I bought them. pulled in a 25lb'r no problem, and if you keep your rigs inside, they should last a lifetime. The Abu Garcia 7000 has been cleaned and re greased once and has been outside for almost 2 years. no issues with the reel whatsoever. So, with all that said. If you keep your rigs inside, in climate-controlled conditions. I have no doubt you'll like the Piscifun. I like the 50's. Still has the push button like the CatMaxx, but has 20 pounds max drag. perfect for catfishing. They look good they're lightweight, and tough. I popped the little plastic piece off the spool to make it easier to line the spool. Glad you enjoyed the vid Got a replacement reel on the way. just got to pick up a new rod.
