Nerdy Birdy 2030 I know it's a month late but - When Cloud encounters Cloud, it's a reference to Final Fantasy VII where there is a section of the game where Cloud faces multiple versions of himself (emotionally not physically) in order to realign his actual memories from his false ones.

People call Cloud emo, but... I think he's more emotionally lost and traumatized than emo. In several of these quotes, he questions some of those who have experienced darkness. Like he's searching for a way out of the darkness but doesn't know how to get out on his own.

"Do you have any doubts?"
"Is there anything you regret?"
"So darkness may not be evil..."
That's just the impression I get from him: a person lost in the darkness of his past.
Seliasei Cloud was always pretty confident throughout most of FF7 and the expanded universe, save for AC where Cloud is literally DYING and has plenty reason to be depressed. Unfortunately his depressed AC persona became his default.
Fierce Saint Well, for a good part of FF7, his memories and personality were fucked with. It was a different persona resulting from a mix of his memories of Zack's personality and the kind of cocky attitude he expected a SOLDIER 1st class would have. Not to mention, there was 2 years between FF7 and Advent Children. It'd be perfectly understandable and expected for him to become depressed and plagued by feelings of guilt and helplessness like that after things calmed down and he had time for things to sink in completely. He lost his home town, his mother, years of his life to Hojo's torture and experiments, Zack, Aerith, and all the dreams and ambitions he once had. He's had to deal with so much loss in his life and people then start stabbing at his personality in AC. His personality at least seemed to have perked up a bit after the conflict was over with in AC.
I kind of agree but as he was pretrade in this game it's horrible

2:03 I love how sad Cloud sounds during the Tifa encounter. It's visibily different than his tone for all the other greetings-- "...to see the day when we must fight."

Interesting fact: Behind the scenes, Steve Burton aka Cloud Strife have always wanted to try to add in his own inflection to his character, but then his voice director cuts off and went like "No. Less, less, LESS!" So Steve Burton had to go along with the stoicism path of his voice acting with Cloud.
Man, that sucks. Steve is great as Cloud- I just wish Cloud was given more inflection. Isn’t Cloud more lively towards the very end of FF7?
Yeah I think Cloud was more livelier toward the end of FF7. I guess the cloud the voice director was going for (and probably the dissidia game too) was the Advent Children Cloud when he was sad, but this is just speculation
I read somewhere that Steve Burton no longer voices Cloud because he didn't want to get vaccinated. I'm not sure if that's true or not, though.
@@redmage8719 That's not true. Every original FF7 voice cast were all fired even long before the pandemic happened and the jab ruling had nothing to do with why VAs had to be all fired. The real reasoning is the former Activision Blizzard Entertainment CMO took over Square Enix as a new CMO around in 2018 and it's not a coincidence that the secret audition for FF7R were being held around the end of 2018 without even telling everybody even the OG voice cast why they were all replaced. It was about cash-grabbing marketing to benefit the viewership for the CW/Warner Bros/Sony/Funimation networks because it's no coincidence either that the newbies were all associated with those same networks, and they wanna target/market the gamers into their lowly profit shows like All American, Fairly Odder shows, Supergirl, and Teen Wolf shows.

I really think the reason for Cloud being so visibly depressed is the fact he lost his memories, so all he remembers are the bad parts of his life like Sephiroth killing and hurting his friends,so he tries to emulate what he thought he would've been like having gone through those events, even though in FF7 he was cheerful to a point like at Costa Del Sol or at Junon when he thinks back to putting the Shinra Uniform on for the first time and being proud of it.

Haters gonna hate but I think Steve Burton is perfect as Cloud and he's the only perfect voice actor for Cloud. We all should know that it's not his fault (nor the other characters' voice actors) for the little off lines. So quit blaming on him! -_-

I think he is alright as Cloud. He does sound emotionless in a lot of areas. I know it is not his job to direct how he sounds. It is the director's decision, but he does seem off on lots of lines.

I like this Cloud. He's actually #1 on my favorite characters of all time list. ^_^ His lines are cool, the way he talks is cool...and anime-like...so is his emo-ness. I understand why most people don't like him, but he's my kinda character. :)
Honestly, I'm with you man. I have no perception of him as whiny or emo, whatsoever. He strikes me more as a cool, smooth kinda guy. A real example of the saying still-waters-run-deep. I also love this voice actor, and idk where all this hate comes from other than he just didn't match up to peoples' mental image.

Ah, you know how people are. To be honest, Crisis Core's interpretation of Zack wasn't my favorite, but I don't go around bashing how it didn't match my mental image of the character or his voice, lol.
Yeah. I thought Zack was cool. And yeah. Going from VII to Crisis Core, I didn't think he'd be like that either. I was cool with it cuz he was a good character. But I sorta didn't like how Crisis Core made things a bit more convoluted. :/
Yeah, I like Zack a lot as a character myself. I guess the Genesis and Angeal storylines kinda wore me out, and I imagined Zack being a bit more gallant and charming rather than puppyish and boyish.

Streak Yeah, Steve Burton's voice REALLY affected a lot of Cloud's character in my opinion. The sad part is, Cloud may have actually been pretty cool before he became voice acted. But damn, Steve Burton's voice just totally ruined him, now he sounds like a guy waking up 24/7

Steve Burton makes his voice and character perfect for the way he acts because of everything that's happened to Cloud in everything he's featured in. Cloud is SUPPOSED to sound monotone. He is SUPPOSED to be moody. Taking Crisis Core, all of VII and Advent Children into consideration (all of which are canon), Steve Burton portrayed Cloud perfectly and the fact that he was changed for the remake saddens me. The remake Cloud isn't a bad voice actor by any means, but I just prefer Steve's voice for Cloud.

@CrimsonVermillioneye The real reason for the pause is that Burton was told to match the Japanese dialog (which is the only direction he got) which was filled with dramatic pauses.
