  • We have been working with LCE Engineering to bring you the results is this video. LCE installed the new Magnuson TVS1320 supercharger on their own 3.4L 5VZ, automatic transmission, 4wd 2001 Toyota 4Runner and we helped with getting the the right test results and fuel mods needed to help support the new added airflow.
    This supercharger is Definitely a good upgrade with the Propper supporting mods (5VZ TVS1320 support package link Below) but the drivability and performance gain is great with supporting mods.

    As you probably know all toyotas ecu are open on time of first use at the factory there is a 15 to 20% of auto adjustment by the factory ecu after installation on the vehicle. There is a way to set the factory ecu to default allowing to compensate for a super charger also the biggest problems arise from the fact that toy knock sensor are to sensitive they will pick up the knocking sound made by the supercharger you have to limit the sensitive of the sensors .My personal vehicle is a 95 t 100 it got over 200 k on the gage it is supercharge it runs on regular gas 12 psi of boost no knocking plenty of power no engine damage . There is always a way if you stop and think

      The ambient temp has to be below 80 degrees. The engine must be cold and create a major vaccum leak. Start the engine and allow to die on his own. Repeat on separate days 2 or 3 days do not drive the vehicle .What this will do is set the ecu to the most fuel capacity capable. After that drive, the car .It will run rear rich it will adjust fuel and timing while leaning the super charger .you will have to install resistor in line for the knock sensors. It will retard to about 20 degrees also the valve springs must be replaced for a stronger psi .Under pressure the factory springs will cause a lean condition. It took me a long time to figure this out. Good luck 👍

      As you know this is not always the case. The bigger problem is the combustion temperature and the factory ECU keeping the AFR at 14.7 while still under boost and while in closed loop. The lack of fuel creates heat plus add the higher air temps and you have knock. This is basic information but it’s because the factory ECU does not have a MAP sensor to accommodate for boost. There is some ECU years that respond better than others BUT they will all gain from having fuel upgrades and a tuneable system, gains as much as 60+ft Tq between 2-3K which is the most problematic area as I’m sure you know due to making boost, the ECU not seeing boost and while in closed loop control.

    did you get any hp or torque #'s? if there are additional power gains with your support package you should show in black and white...with the low 4-5lb. boost afr honestly doesn't look that bad...make sure you run 93, change the fuel filter and put in slightly colder plugs. Higher boost levels will definitely require afr to be lower. Dyno pulls with power figures will help your sales...especially if the power goes up with the additional fuel.

    So with the stock ECU but the bigger injectors and FMU (and colder plugs) was there any engine ping. I'm excited about this new SC but I don't want to have to run all types of additional control modules and tunes as I live in California and don't want the hassle.

      Not larger injectors, larger fuel pump. Yes, all pinging went away

    I just installed this same tvs supercharger on my Tacoma. It pings bad enough where I don’t want to drive it. Only driven it twice.
    I ordered the fuel pump, and ik22 spark plugs. With this be enough with out the 3:1 fmu?
    Or is that needed as well?

    How much boost/ air flow (if the mass air flow sensor is in front of the turbo) or boost if the mass air flow sensor is being blown through
    Is the factory mass air flow sensor capable of recognizing?

    • @snpspeedinnovations
      @snpspeedinnovations  5 місяців тому +1

      The factory MAF is in front of the supercharger and it will read the air coming in, but it will not read boost.

    • @TACOMASRT5
      @TACOMASRT5 5 місяців тому

      What I'm saying is it reads the amount of air that passes through it.
      I'm sure it has a limit. Do you know the limit?
      If it were talking about a turbo vehicle, is it better to have the MAF between the air filter and turbo, or better to have it between the turbo and throttle body?

    • @snpspeedinnovations
      @snpspeedinnovations  5 місяців тому +1

      Depends on the size of the turbo. At some point a larger turbo will max the MAF out but honestly at that point you will need tuning in order to make sure the fuel curve and the timing is correct.

    • @TACOMASRT5
      @TACOMASRT5 5 місяців тому

      I'd like to get rid of my 2.0 pulley and go with one that makes about 7-8 psi.
      Have it machined to fit a 1 way bearing.
      Then once the supercharger spools up the GT45, the turbo takes over and blows through the supercharger with the 1 way bearing on the snout.
      Not so much worried about HP numbers just want something cool for my show truck.

    Howdy, actually looking to buy a 4runner with a TRD supercharger which if I understand is the same at this Magnusson unit.
    being that AFRs are a little lean early, you could not just cheat by running a FPR at slightly higher fuel pressure to give a little extra fuel all around?

    • @snpspeedinnovations
      @snpspeedinnovations  7 місяців тому

      Yes it is. Magnuson made the superchargers for TRD.

    • @crither010_7
      @crither010_7 6 місяців тому

      you wont find any 4runners with this supercharger, you may find a 2nd gen or maybe a 1st gen supercharger that was produced with TRD. this supercharger they are showing is then newest generation for the 3.4 v6 5vzfe. It was not made in collaboration with TRD but is still made by Magnuson and they still carry the same interest as TRD back in the day. This 3rd generation supercharger is much more efficient and should provide more boost and power after a smaller puller and 7th injector kit compared to the 1st and 2nd generations. just buy a stock 4runner and buy a new 3rd gen kit and have it installed at a reputable performance shop or toyota specific shops.

      No fuel can be added to the engine on close loop only on open loop it will be a waste of time. The ecu will pull the extra fuel back and trim the mix only on the open loop can fuel be added if your 3.4 got a throttle sensor with 3 wires, you can increase the adjustment, creating more of a percentage on position. You must use a scanner to do this, your open loop will come in sooner good luck 👍
