Thank you for the details you provide. Your videos are excellent. It’s taking me a bit to get the hang of it and I’ve redone sections more than a few times but the results are well worth it. My technique is a work in progress but I’m on my way. 😊
Your instructions are wonderful. You get right to the ornament and you give great tips to help make this ornament the best ever! Always wanted to make one and I finished mine tonight....I know after Christmas. I am very happy with how it turned out. I learned a few things along the way and can't wait to make another one. Thanks again!!!
In most cases, you can fold it down anywhere between those two measurements. If you find you get to the Equator of your ball and still have foam showing, you can use the 1/4" measurement.
Love these ornaments, I friend gave me one years ago but lost it in a move. I would love to make them. I have 2 and 2.5 inch balls, how to I adjust the size of fabric for this?
Mary, you can do a couple of things. You can use rectangles that are about the same in length as your ball size. (I'm using 3" long rectangles here for a 3" ball, so you could downsize them for your smaller ones). Or, you could use almost the same size fabric pieces (maybe a hair shorter) and just use less layers on each half of the ball.
I am mesmerised by your talent. I did 'try' on a polystyrene ball my cats have been playing with. It's fine, just a few claw and teeth so marks but serviceable. Then we got to the 2nd half where you cut the fabric on the 3rd layer and by this time it resembled something you'd stick on a scarecrow. I have pinned my fingers numerous times and as I have to take blood thinners my polystyrene ball was a blotchy red colour... I need more practice methinks, you make it look so easy and I thank you for your patience in describing everything so beautifully. Sadly, my creative brain cell went walkabout 5 years ago with my housework braincell although they did leave a 'couldn't care less how messy it is' braincell so I don't do housework but I couldn't give a s**t. I also have a bad language brain cell and I kinda like watching people's expression of shock when the f word comes out of my 64-year old gob! Thanks again for sharing, your work is stunning. ❤️
I use a “rule of thumb” to cut squares 1/2 inch shorter than the ball diameter. That would be 12 millimetres of course. The same would likely work for the fabric rectangles as described here.
@@KelleysQuiltsandCruises thank you so much .. just the info I needed !! This is my first attempt. I am making them from my husband's shirts as "memory baubles" so I want them to work out 💝
@@llihacr good luck! If you want to do a trial run first I suggest doing it with scrap fabric to make sure it all works out before you use your husband's shirt fabric.
Hi, are your instructions available in a printed form? I would pay a fee for them. Your videos are great, just that I am older, slow and have a hard time keeping up & have to stop. pause and start again. Thank you for sharing.
I was wondering if you were able to give the website to where you purchased the pins at. I didn’t see it in the drop down menu. I’m sure I just overlooked it. 😬
I am obsessed!!! Thank you so much, these are too cool!! I found you just in time for Christmas. My husband is asking how long do these last? He feels like the ~200 pins in a styrofoam ball will make it break down in a couple years.
@@TheOrnamentGirl Oh gosh, that's great to hear!! Only time will convince him. He thinks all the pinholes ruin the integrity of the styrofoam. But I am thrilled to hear you still have yours after these (few, haha) years. We lost my sister this year, and I am making these ornaments for her 5 kiddos. 💜💜💜
Have a quick question about size. If I use a smaller foam egg or ball than what is in the video...do I still use the 2 x 3 inch fabric squares? Or do I use smaller ? And if I need to use smaller sized pieces...what size would I need? I have eggs that I just ordered from you but also bought some smaller 3 inch ones to make a mixed egg size display.
can you help ~ you say to cut your rectangles 2 x 3' whereas someone else with a UA-cam video says she got the pattern from you yet she cuts her rectangles 1 1/2 by 2 3/4 inch. What happens if I cut them her size of 1 1/2" x 2 2/3" ? Does it change the effect much? Or does it simply mean I will use more fabric I want to strart cutting the material but will wait till I here back from you
I can't really speak to the technique someone else is using, but we have found that 2" x 3" rectangles give us the best results with the least amount of pins.
How do you erase or what do you do with a ball that has loads of indentations from trying to do the quilting....?.... I just don’t want to waste it ... but i know how to reuse it....
Lucy, I would still use it. On those first one or two layers, I would take care to not press each piece down super hard, because there will already be all those indentations, and you want to mask that and have everything look pretty even. But I think you'll be fine to just use it and not worry too much about it. By the time you get it done, there will be enough layers on the ball to cover all of that! :)
Thank you very much for your prompt reply....I will not give up....I can’t get the lines to meet so I am re doing it the one from your video 1,2,and 3....😊🥰
I use 1/2 inch less ( 12 millimetres) less than ball diameter as a rule of thumb. You may want to try this out with scraps of fabric first to test the sizing. I am not an expert, but I have done a couple of different sized balls and this has worked fairly well.
I was trying to find your link for the 3"styrofoam ball. All I can find in Hobby Lobby is 2.8 and that does not work for the size of material I am hearing. I know they do not fit right on that size.
Hi Julie.. here is the link to my 3" foam balls: theornamentgirl.com/market/product-tag/3-inch-foam-balls/ However, the 2.8 would totally work too. It will be a very minuscule difference by the time you've added 4 layers on each side of the ball. I hope that helps!
We don't have an exact number for using different sizes, but I would suggest starting with what our supply sheet recommends and then maybe having a little bit extra just in case you need more.
In one of your videos you said that you would put the link of where to buy the 3" styrofoam balls, but I could not find it. In this link it says that you can find the printable shopping list. All I find is a offer to buy your instructions, but no downloadable shopping list and there is no link listed as to where you buy them.
Hi Julie... Please be sure to check your email, and if you don't see it in your inbox, it could have wound up in spam. Please let me know if you were able to find it. Thank you!
Hi! I see you cut your fabric in rectangles. I have seen others cut their fabric in squares and create the same no-sew quilted ornament design. Is there a advantage to rectangles over the square fabric?
Hello Staci, I recently made a New England Patriots Ornament and I'd love to share it with you but I don't know how to do that. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the wonderful tutorial!
Some of your videos say to fold the top down 1/4" and some say 1/2". Which would be more accurate to use on the 2 x 3 rectangle ~ Thank you
