I had to convince my parents to let me get a beardie. By the way, a great way to know you're ready for a pet (research wise), would be to try and write a detailed care guide. You might run into times when you're saying "what temp do they need" or "do they need a humid hide." Makes you rethink what you know in-depth, and realize what you missed. Worked for me perfectly
Help! I really want a leopard gecko but my parents won’t let me.. :( My mom is believe it or not scared for the gecko😅 I want one so bad and don’t know what to do. My question is how can I convince my mom? I really want a buddy..
I cared for my geckos for 3 years before entering the military. My mother has gotten so attached to them while I’m waiting to move into a house that can house pets. She loves following these videos
I’ve research leopard geckos for a year now and I’m not using it as a method to make my parents to let me have a leopard gecko all the time I’m also doing it for the future and for when I do get one so I am prepared for a leopard gecko 😊 also ty this helps a lot
Hey so I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos. Unfortunately my Leo died today. I have no idea why and he was only 9 years old. But I just wanted to say thank you because your channel helped me a lot through the years.
One thing you cannot understate to young potential owners is the upfront monetary cost of getting a leopard gecko. The gecko itself is usually the least expensive part! Here in the US, startup costs easily top $500 for proper materials bought new. You can save a bit buying used, but it’s still a hefty chunk of change. And you absolutely must have a “rainy day fund” for emergency vet visits… plus an initial wellness visit after you bring your pet home. Pets cost cash… got to be ready for that!
Hey! I had started getting into Leopard Geckos awhile ago, but I wasn't sure on how to take care of them, since I had never owned any reptiles. I started researching, and I found you and a few others. You've helped me find so much information, and I really love watching your videos. I now have my sweet leo named Pepper! Thank you for always putting out information to help me and others to get their little geckos!
Hello! I have a question about UVB lighting and heating. If I use a heat mat, do I just need a thermometer? I've heard people recommend digital thermometers. Also, how does UVB lighting work? Does it plugin to an outlet, or what? Could you maybe just explain a few things to me? Thanks!
That does actually raise an interesting question, what can you do if you lose interest after you've gotten your leopard gecko, maybe after a year of owning them? Aside from rehoming, have you found ways to reignite your interest for them?
As she said, Look for different ways to decorate the tank. Try to upgrade the care. Sterile - naturalistic - bioactive - redo tanks, find new items that you would like, get involved more in the care than the animal itself
Had to convince my job to let me keep two Leo’s in the production lab. Keeping a nice science aesthetic with environment monitors, a Latin feeding menu, and a giant armed magnifier in front for viewing.
I'm 18, Have multiple reptiles, amphibians and inverts and yet i'm watching a video about convincing my parents lol. I'm so glad my parents were/are super supportive and involved in my hobby🥰 I didn't really have to convince them a few years ago, After the first pet i had something to back my claims so they just let me get/do whatever now.
Aww haha thanks for watching :') Yeah you're lucky your parents are involved too, I've had such sad messages from people who's parents refuse to take the geckos to the vets because 'a new gecko would be cheaper' 😭
I think asking your parent to go to a reptile expo is a fantastic idea. A lot of people with fear of reptiles or inverts don't really interact with them much, and they don't go out of their way to be near them and even look closely at what they look like. Reptile expos are great because they can see reptiles and amphibians and inverts that they've never seen before, and in a safe environment where they don't have to touch them, and they're safely inside enclosures. And from there, they can see that leopard geckos, and crested geckos, and all kinds of other reptiles and amphibians can be cute, and gentle, and tame. Like, let them see things like White's Tree Frogs or Amazonian Milk Frogs. Let them see Blue-Tongue Skinks and Leopard Geckos and juvenile Bearded Dragons. Maybe after they see them, they might just feel confident enough to hold one of them for a minute. Obviously it depends on the person, and some phobias are stronger than others. For some reason snakes are a very persistent phobia, and so is a fear of inverts, so maybe don't take your parent to see ball pythons or tarantulas if that's what their phobia is, but if they just "get the creeps" from reptiles and amphibians, I think a reptile expo would be the perfect way to help them get over that, and maybe even convince them to let you get one as a pet. I've seen so many parents refuse to let their kid get an exotic pet like a bird or a reptile, but they eventually get one and the parent loves the pet just as much as the kid.
My friend just bought a 200$ lizard that she researched for a WEEK she was being quite aggressive with it to the point where it bit her. She bought a younger one that lives up to 20 years. I’m wishing the best for that animal

i have a question, any advice would be much appreciated! so, i have 2 female leopard geckos, housed in separate tanks. when i got them, one was significantly bigger than the other. the smaller one was extremely skittish which i just assumed was because it was very young and unfamiliar with me. as they grew older, i gave it time, id put my hand in the vivs and mads sure i made slow movements, they see me feed them, i talk to them everyday so they know my voice. ive had them for around 8 months by now. the one that was larger when i bought it is completely fine and can be handled great with no issues at all. the one that was smaller STILL to this day is scared. ive gotten her okay with my hand being in the tank, and she will even sit on my hand and let me pet her somewhat, but anytime i even try to lift my hand up, or shift it in any way that would involve me moving her, she bolts. i dont know what to do. she should be used to me by now and ive done absolutely everything ive seen online to do, and have been consistent with it. she’s just about if not fully grown by now, but still i have made the bare minimum in progress and am at a complete loss as to why. any tips, suggestions, anything? i dont know what to do at this point.
I haven't tried this with Leos, but it has worked well for other reptiles... A piece of clothing (or perhaps a handkerchief in the case of a leo) that has been worn placed in the enclosure. The idea is for them to associate your scent with safety and security.

Have you seen my first week with my baby leopard gecko video? You may be going through a similar thing, and I do some handling in that, so it might give you an idea of what's normal? Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/1-w1B4gnvug/v-deo.html

I realy fricked up with pet care when I was a kid/teen (10-16). It haunts me till this day how overwhelmed I was and I still regret putting these animals through it. I am 35 now and I learned my lesson. Take.your.time. Things that are important, but rarly talked about: Do you have support system? Like a Forum you are on or a local club, where you are comfortable asking for help. (My pet looks like/does xyz. Is that normal? It might be x or could it be z?) Do you have plan for if you get overwhelmed? If you find yourself in over your head even though you did a lot of research, it's ok. But please don't let the animal pay for this. Make sure you know a place you can give them up for adoption befor they start suffering. If you're not sure about a pet you could foster them, volunteer at a rescue or take care of them while the owner is on holiday.
Very good advice. There are a lot of people who get into reptiles as teens and don't always think it through. I hope this video kind of helps them think things through first 🙈
I kind of got an infestation of these grain mite things and my feeder insects were covered and I seen you video when you moved into your house and your cricket colony were covered but can you please do another video on them I have sprayed the place with vinegar for now
I've convinced my parents for 4 pets, I have 5 pets altogether (3 dogs & 2 geckos ) one of my dogs was my parents idea . I recently convinced my parents for a Pomeranian and we ended up getting one but she then said if I ask for another pet she will kill me 😂. So do you have tips on how I can convince her for another crestie ?? ( I have 3 dogs 1 garg and 1 crestie ). My dad will let me get any animal I want really ( except from another dog) because he used to have loads of pets himself When he was a child (cats, birds, terrapins ,guinea pigs, dogs , chipmunk+)
Excuse me but I need help with my leopard gecko spot, he won't get out of his hide unless I force him to and if there's food near him, what should I do?
I got my Leopard gecko 3yrs ago, my parents okayed me getting another reptile, I was thinking of getting a ball python at first, but now I’m looking at getting another leopard gecko
Pls help my parents said that if my leopard gecko gets sick then they would not take him to the vet or I would have to pay for it myself but I dont have much money what do I do
I’m 33 - decided on getting a Leo in Nov. 20 - did a lot of research. Had the tank ready in Dec. 20 and finally got my Leo at the end of January 21. It was still overwhelming at first 😂😂😂 P.S - now I own 2 Leos, 1 Crestie, 2 Pacman Frogs, 4 African Land Snails, 1 jumping spider and 12 Tarantulas + a cat and a dog (these two I’ve had for 9 years now) oops 😅
oh my goodness haha 😂 I wish I could switch back to 13 year old me when getting pets. I was so chill and just excited, nowadays I get so nervous beforehand 🙈
@@leopardgeckotalk yeah I looked at my local stores and online at them and I can’t find any calcium or vitamins but there is the UVB and deep heat projector but that’s about it.
I have a question about Arcadia calcium pro cause I can only find them with D3, I know you use calcium pro, do you have a uvb lamp or do you give them D3 trough calcium
All their supplements are best used with a UV system. You can use RevitaliseD3 but that's kind of a top up. CalciumPro-Mg is a good calcium powder, alongside EarthProA, but yeah as I said, best used with the 7% shadedweller :)
Is he albino? How long has he had the DHP and UVB for? He most likely just needs more time to adjust to the change. Try adding some plant coverage around the basking spot so he doesn’t feel exposed and so he can bask cryptically. You’re measuring the basking spot temperature with a temperature gun, right?
No hes not albino hes had it about 2 weeks and apparently he only uses it at night lol ive seen him there 3 nights in a row so all is good i guess and yes my temp never goes above 91.5 in the hottest spot he hates anything hotter
@@patriotjones8584 ahh ok, it’s good to hear that he’s using the DHP! My girl only uses hers at night too. To encourage him to bask under the UVB (or at least cryptic bask, only exposing part of their body), try providing more plant coverage around the basking spot so he doesn’t feel exposed.
@@nightinggale6470 yea he always has his nose or tail sticking out from his hide. hes fine and healhy just want to see him out more ive only had him for a month and a half so hes getting there.
No! I'm probably not the one you were looking for an answer from but a 15 gallon is way too small. Most people say that baby leopard geckos can live in a 10 gallon long and adults can live in a 20 gallon long but in my opinion a 20 gallon long is good for a baby and a 30 gallon(or more) is better for a adult. Though I recommend just getting a 30 gallon long (or more) instead of 2 separate enclosures. If you can not afford the stuff to get started with an animal than don't get the animal.
@@jordynhardy1204 I already have the animal and its a super small baby so I keep it in a 15 gallon for now but I do have money left so when he grows a bit more ill definetly get him a 40 gallon breeder tank. Thanks for your advice
😇Good you take children in relation to getting a leos. So they can gain knowledge. Very popular now in Norway with leos. And I see and hear things that are not always so good
@@leopardgeckotalk Yes :) It became legal with reptiles here about 6 years ago .. And leos are certainly very popular among young people. I recommend them to follow you here :)
How do you make a leopard gecko go poop where you want? I tried moving his poop where I want he will go poop once and then go back and poop where I don't want, so what can I do.
The money part for is. Easy because I sell candy at school I make around 30 to 60 bucks a week the convincing is gonna be hard tho because my dad ia more of a " they belong outside " person
I have a question, I had a gecko for 4 years. I feed him like a piece of salad also fruit. So if I get a gecko again could I feed it the same way has the other. People keep telling me it's bad for them but my other one been fine.
What kind of gecko are we talking about here? Because different geckos have different dietary requirements.. What gecko do you have and what gecko do you want?
@@whtisthis5034 please don't feed your leopard gecko fruit or vegetables, they are insect eaters, meaning they only eat insects, so please start feeding insects only... Crested geckos should only be fed ripe fruits as a treat not on a daily basis. For the daily food a prepared crested gecko diet, pangea or repashy make excellent one's

Do you have plan for if you get overwhelmed? If you find yourself in over your head even though you did a lot of research, it's ok. But please don't let the animal pay for this. Make sure you know a place you can give them up for adoption befor they start suffering.
If you're not sure about a pet you could foster them, volunteer at a rescue or take care of them while the owner is on holiday.
Very good advice. There are a lot of people who get into reptiles as teens and don't always think it through. I hope this video kind of helps them think things through first 🙈
I kind of got an infestation of these grain mite things and my feeder insects were covered and I seen you video when you moved into your house and your cricket colony were covered but can you please do another video on them I have sprayed the place with vinegar for now
They went away after that video. I never used oats or grain with my feeders again and haven't had a problem.
Sorry that kinda doesn't make any sense 😂 my grammar isn't good
Excuse me but I need help with my leopard gecko spot, he won't get out of his hide unless I force him to and if there's food near him, what should I do?
i love your new intro
Thank you :D
I got my Leopard gecko 3yrs ago, my parents okayed me getting another reptile, I was thinking of getting a ball python at first, but now I’m looking at getting another leopard gecko
Pls help my parents said that if my leopard gecko gets sick then they would not take him to the vet or I would have to pay for it myself but I dont have much money what do I do
love your content
Thank you :D
That thumbnail would make anyone want a leopard gecko
ikr! Hahaa :)
I’m 33 - decided on getting a Leo in Nov. 20 - did a lot of research. Had the tank ready in Dec. 20 and finally got my Leo at the end of January 21.
It was still overwhelming at first 😂😂😂
P.S - now I own 2 Leos, 1 Crestie, 2 Pacman Frogs, 4 African Land Snails, 1 jumping spider and 12 Tarantulas + a cat and a dog (these two I’ve had for 9 years now) oops 😅
oh my goodness haha 😂 I wish I could switch back to 13 year old me when getting pets. I was so chill and just excited, nowadays I get so nervous beforehand 🙈
🙀
Will you make another channel called crested gecko, even if you show cresties on here?
I can’t find any Arcadia supplements and I will be using UVB would you recommend Calcium Plus by Rapashy?
Really? If you're in the US or Canada, I believe they sell Arcadia products at PetSmart now.
@@leopardgeckotalk yeah I looked at my local stores and online at them and I can’t find any calcium or vitamins but there is the UVB and deep heat projector but that’s about it.
Man this came out the same day as I got them to say ok man could have used this a few weeks ago😂
hahaa, well congrats on getting the 'ok'! :)
@@leopardgeckotalk thanks
I have a question about Arcadia calcium pro cause I can only find them with D3, I know you use calcium pro, do you have a uvb lamp or do you give them D3 trough calcium
All their supplements are best used with a UV system. You can use RevitaliseD3 but that's kind of a top up. CalciumPro-Mg is a good calcium powder, alongside EarthProA, but yeah as I said, best used with the 7% shadedweller :)
@@leopardgeckotalk so I can’t overdose on D3
Mine was just climbing his little treehouse and he just started resting on it,I’m not sure what that means
Love it
Thanks :D
My LEO wont use his projector and uvb light any tips? The slate is at 90-91 degrees but he does not like lights lol
I have a question, is a 15 gallon good for a leopard gecko?
@@roblox_cypr1xn70 of course! What’s your gecko’s name?
@@jordynhardy1204 His name is Bart since hes yellow
😇Good you take children in relation to getting a leos. So they can gain knowledge. Very popular now in Norway with leos. And I see and hear things that are not always so good
Ah that's interesting. Has there been a sudden spike of interesting in Leos in Norway?
@@leopardgeckotalk Yes :) It became legal with reptiles here about 6 years ago .. And leos are certainly very popular among young people. I recommend them to follow you here :)
How do you make a leopard gecko go poop where you want? I tried moving his poop where I want he will go poop once and then go back and poop where I don't want, so what can I do.
Generally they will go the furthest place from where they sleep. So if you're moving it closer to where they sleep, it may not work.
@@leopardgeckotalk oh wow ok, uh ty
Can you do one for a crested gecko???
Yeah I could do. :)
Not going to lie, my dad convinced me to get a leopard gecko
The money part for is. Easy because I sell candy at school I make around 30 to 60 bucks a week the convincing is gonna be hard tho because my dad ia more of a " they belong outside " person
Ok
Had my leopard gecko since 2017. My mom didnt really like him at first but now she lets him crawl over him
Aww sweet :D
My mom isn’t keen but I still have 5 of them
😂😂
I’m interested In getting a Leo but just wondering what will u do when u go to uni who will look after them (if you are younger ofc)
@@xxclionaxxx I get my dad to watch them or any willing family member
Hey 👋
I love you
aww thank you :D
I have a question, I had a gecko for 4 years. I feed him like a piece of salad also fruit. So if I get a gecko again could I feed it the same way has the other. People keep telling me it's bad for them but my other one been fine.
What kind of gecko are we talking about here? Because different geckos have different dietary requirements.. What gecko do you have and what gecko do you want?
@@laurensvdd1666 I have a leopard gecko but I was thinking about getting a Crested gecko.😊
Yes don't give them fruit, veg or salad.
Hi
My gecko was literally spying on me the other day
hahaa i love when they do that.
