I like how your hands were shaking and your voice was crumbling when you found the gold coin "Ohhhhhhohohoo you beautyyyyy.....ohhhhh i am over the moon" XD
The "wiping" or should I say GRINDING of the mud always makes me cringe!! Personally, I CAN WAIT till I can rinse the pieces gently. AWESOME, AWESOME FIND!!! Congratulations!
A superb find and one that searchers dream about! I wonder who the poor bugger was whose pocket it bounced out of - he went to pay for his food and lodging at an inn, and there was his sovereign. Gone! Twelve pounds a year was a good wage for a live-in servant in those days. Might I suggest that you carry a 1L bottle of water and a soft brush with you? Rubbing it with a dirt-laden thumb is like trying to clean gold with sandsoap.
That's what I love about metal detecting.........especially if you go out in any weather, you never know what you are going to find......on my permission I go out onto the grubbiest stubble fields in the damp rain with cold fingers and a runny nose but when you see those little hammered coins coming up and a nice bit of gold all the cold and damp just disappears.I found a lovely little gold posy ring a few weeks back with my Explorer 2 and honestly thought it was a copper 15mm olive used in plumbing when I spotted it, and thought more blinking junk but once cleaned off it was beautiful. It was a decent signal for such a small ring and it was as I was walking back to the car and getting dark too.Well done on finding that coin.all the best and happy swinging
I actually cried watching that coin come out of the ground, well maybe a little teary eyed. That was awsome. Thanks for bringing a camera that day and keed digging.
Fantastic finds! Good video! I think I would have been clicking my heels and going crazy after finding not only the gold coin, but the Roman coin too! Thanks for posting the video. It gives me hope!
super find mr ! nice to hear a enthousiastic collegue ,i can not imagen how it feels to find a gold coin but i do know that i would be " over the moon too " thanks for the video ,inspiring and motivating . take care
This is exactly why I carry spare undergarments with me when I hunt! Two years ago, I went detecting in Nevada with a friend and found a jar (small) of $5 & $10 San Francisco mint gold coins beneath a firepit of a deserted cabin. My friend ran his detector over the area, scratched the surface and realized it was an iron sheet and went on detecting. I was curious and questioned the iron sheet and lo underneath was a hole with the jar. GL & HH for 2013. You have a great start!
WOW ! What a great find ! She's a beauty !! I was just that Lucky....see the picture ! When you struck such a coin.....is like scoring a winning goal in the worldcup....
great find, and a real handsome coin,,makes you wonder how such a big gold coin is not been hit by the plough, after all the years in the ground,,thanks for showing
Hearty congratulations on your superb golden find for the beginning of 2013, Paul. In fact, well done for all your finds on that day. Happy New Year and find some more gold... GL & HH :D
Theres loads of flint around here in Hampshire we call them Hampshire diamonds, but the thing is its hard to find any prehistoric tools and such as they all blend in. Other parts of the country they stick out like a sore thumb because there is no flint.
PLEASE DON'T RUB THE COINS!!! Bring a small spray bottle with you and you can just gently spray the dirt off. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL COIN! CONGRATULATIONS BROTHER!!!
Coins are always a good find. Older coins are great but gold... with clearly defined features is the best. I found an old cookie tin of coins and how excited I was. Of course it was short lived as the oldest coin was only 1950's and the earliest was the 60's. Nothing of antiquity value but it did hold about $30. Still a find is a find and I got a great satisfaction from that.
this Man o Man! how I would love to mega hunt or Marathon hunt a place like yours. I never get tired of watching this video mannnnnnnnnnnnnn, I have found every thing I have ever set out to find except a gold coin (ANY DAMMIT) and Platinum and in 21 years and 4 country's and one hell of a addiction(Metal detecting) I am still seeking the darn Gold coin your hunting unmet Friend Pennykicker
I have a ACE 150 myself. Bought it from Kellyco metal detectors. Just today alone found a dime and penny. not much its a good start. I just started detecting this year myself. GL & HH
Now that's what I call a great day! You might want to carry a small plastic bottle of water with you to dab water on your finds to gently remove dirt. That way you avoid scratching the coin when you scrape off the dirt. It's what I do.
Hi Ya Mal been watching yours for a while now what kept you. Tis nice finding the yellow stuff but its just a bonus really being out there is the main thing :)
Amazing! That would be a rather impossible find in most of the US. I'd say you guys in the UK have it good with it comes to older coins. Amazing find - congrats!
YES ! awesome find ! im still looking for my Qst gold coin, reserching old maps, historys of the towns i hunt,, hh and more gold to you on your future hunts, Dude
Well done mate, Exactly the same coin i found back in April. At least you didn't swear like i did. A stunning coin, and what a great feeling when you see the glint of gold, there is no mistaking it. All the best for the rest of the year. Carl
I bit once you found that Gold coin it felt like the fog lifted and the sun was shinning bright ;) ;) Great job and best of luck on your future hunts ;) ;)
That ha'penny was very late 18th century, and minted at the Soho Mint of Matthew Boulton in Birmingham. This coin weighed half an ounce when new and this was done so the coin was worth its weight in copper to stop counterfeiting which had been rife when the coins were so much lighter. Having such a huge mass of copper in the coin made it pointless to counterfeit. Of course, over time- just as in the 1960s with pre-decimal pennies, these coins had a scrap value higher than their monetary value as a means of exchange and so were withdrawn from use and melted down. Nowadays, our coins are just worthless rubbish in comparison to these items.
What a relief! I surely appreciate your understanding. May a the horde of hordes find its way beneath your feet in a manner that leaves no doubt as to the blessings placed upon your life by a loving God.
