Great video, the fact that you were trying to picture what was going on in the house and on the property makes you a first class relic hunter. Not only are you after the goodies, but you are trying to get a feel of how life was back then and grasp a picture of their daily lives. Very comendable in my opinion. Keep up the good work! You have my respect.
This video is great because it's not really all about finding a valuable coins but to understand what went on in that 30' circle. This is the reason I love digging. Great job on the video!
Yes Christopher, the Iron definitely hides especially small targets ... But discriminating out the Iron, which I've tried so many times, still leaves the Iron blocking the much smaller better signal . I've gone over this mound so many times, but only when I dug that area of dirt up and away from the Iron, was I able to get a signal from that tiny Cuff Button . I'm hunting this specific area slower and more meticulously, and still learning how Iron can completely hide smaller treasures . Thanks
Thanks Jack, I've been over that area of ground so many times with my detector, but was only able to pick up a signal on it, after digging it up and away from the iron that was probably masking it's signal. Some things so tiny, are overwhelmed by the Iron nearby . Hope you have a great weekend my friend, and waiting for the day you find a real buried Treasure Chest down were you hunt ... Pirates and everyone else passed through there back in the day .
Great hunt Bill! The history of that place is still unfolding....WOW! Great find on that Masonic button. Nice video and thanks for sharing! Can't wait to see what else comes out of there! Good luck on your next friend! Scott & Curcha
Another great video Bill, particularly liked the talking about the history of the family that lived there and how your finds fitted into that time period. You definitely think like an archaeologist mate. That was a really nice button that you found, well done!!. Thanks for showing us all. John.
Thanks Mike, And again, my deepest condolences for your sister my friend. Your hunt on the home site where you were raised, was very interesting indeed. Good luck on your next hunt my friend . BILL .
EARTH ANGEL. WHAT AN INTERESTING PROPERTY FIND!!!! THAT CERTAINLY DOES LOOK LIKE THE ORIGINAL HEARTH! SOUNDS LOGICAL ABOUT WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT THE DIRT CMING UP FROM THE CELLAR HOLE ALSO! DO YOU HAVE MORE VIDEOS? THANK YOU FOR SHARING
Great job with your theory on the 1700's coins, from the mound, and possibly where the mound came from. I believe your approach to the south side of house is very thorough Bill, I am learning as I watch you explore this site brother, Terry.
Those clips look like automotive body molding clips. The aluminum trim they used to put onto cars had a channel on the body side that a clip like that would lock into, holding it to the surface of the car.
My thoughts exactly Leon, I have gone to the Oldest Masonic Lodge in my area, expressly for that reason, but have found no one there. I'm going to try and contact them Online . I also want to make sure to post all developments, along with future progress on that most Historic of sites, which I believe has been sadly forgotten. I believe this place should become a National Landmark in regards to this Great family's contribution in the Revolutionary War. Their story is one of greatness .
Someone suggested due to the wear of the coins, they may well have been dropped in the 1800's, and I think he's right PB. And you are also correct about a second house on the site . The 1800's home was located about 50ft due east of the 1700's one in this video . All in all, it's going to take some time, but it's just great that I have the opportunity to hunt this untouched home site . Subbed you back my friend, and congratulations again on that "King George III". Good luck on your next hunt .
found two images of the 1700,s masonic button/cuff link one dug in ketucky the other charlston,sc the design was the same on both but metal looked different on the 2nd ...very cool find .
Many times masons would scratch the square and compass on bricks that were laid in the walls of old houses, usually around doorways where other masons could see them when visiting. These were crudely etched like your button.
The coins might of been there because someone liked the warm their pants in front of the fire. When they died, that practice stopped hence why their might be no other coins. Good vid.
BILL great video. I look forward to see the screen videos . I think that masonic button will be your best find yet ! Any mason would love to have that . keep the vids coming bro !
As an idea on why that piece of the land has early 1700's coins: Maybe they had various houses on the property over the years, and that one was occupied in the early 1700's. Maybe it was buried later when the cellar was excavated.
Listening to your discussion about the lack of 1800's coins, I am thinking that the original house got torn down at some point. There may be another house site out there nearby from the 1800's
great video bill and a nice bit of archaeology to boot it was like an American version of Time Team very interesting good luck on your next hunt there best wishes,,,pat
Hi ROLFCOPTERZZ, The cuff button, with it's crude engraving, looks to be from the 1700's. I'm thinking the Original Homesteader of that Site, back in the 1700's was a member of "The Order of the Free Masons" . Very probable, knowing that Family's History of involvement during The Revolutionary War . I'll be screening that mound of dirt in a couple of days for more, but the mosquitoes are in full force in that area now . Got to get some good repellent or I'm gonna get eaten alive .
You have some digging to do then. I would take as many photos and measurements as you can while you undercover that floor. No doubt you will cover it back up once you are done so recording everything will leave a record of what was there etc. Looking forward to seeing the other vids frm this.
Thanks for the info Dave, and sorry to hear about your run in with them hornets ...feel better dude . Just watched a couple of your hunts on thiltzy1's Channel, You guys are hunting some great sites out there, Keep up the good work my friend !
Go to the lodge on the 2nd Tuesday night of the month at around 6:30 PM. It does not have to be the oldest lodge, just the one nearest the site. If you need any help let me know. Someone in your area can be contacted and I know they would be delighted to help.
Love the video's keep up the good work do you think there is a chance that it could be a blacksmith workshop with you finding a place where an obviously very hot fire has been and the square nail could have been used to shoe horses just a thought
Hi Wild Bill, Your videos are very intresting and i enjoy them. I was wondering if you found out anything eles on the Free massion button. I see that you bottle hunt too, I do a lot of bottle hunting here in england, i canoe down rivers and if i see a bottle at arms lenth ill grab it or use a rake. Im saving up for a metal detector i mite start with a Viking or Garrett. Good luck and Happy hunting mate
Awesome video ! Congrats on all your finds and good luck on your next hunt ! Nice button Bill ! I knew that sign right away, you know Ben Franklin was a Mason, maybe he knew some of our founding father.
As a kid my brothers and I were out running around in a forest out in Vermont 2 to3 miles into the forest and came across a real old log cabin it was old because it was all most broken all down covered in green moss man I wish I had one of theses at the time who knows
bill try the coleman max pump spray.98% deet.they sell it at rite aid drug stores this stuff worked the best of all the brands we have tried hunting cellar holes.my hunting buddy Todd has made a few vids of our hunts in the last few months.thiltzy in the search bar on youtube and you can see them.keep up the great work and be safe out there. i had a brutal run in with white faced hornets and got stung up bad, then tripped while running busting my knee capbone .chip came off knee cap lol Dave
Great vid! I especially like the Masonic button you found. Good work on the site and I hope you find many great artifacts, to include some gold! Keep the vids coming. And, what did you ever do to the drunk Mexican buys that left their litter? Would like to see you "tune" them up.
Some nice detecting there Bill, and the caliber of the Mason button, with the shank still there, very very nice find, I bet that was your find of the year!!, Great stuff, I did sub ya Bill. GJ&GL&HH Richey.
I liked your video very much. I appreciate your trying to preserve the history instead of just plowing through. It looks like a great site. Now, the reason for my comment. It would be nice if you will contact the local Masonic lodge and offer the button to them. They would greatly appreciate adding it to their historical collection. If you know the original owners name they may be able to help with some info. Unless you are a Mason you will not understand the engravings on it. To be one ask one
weird thing about metal detecting you can go over a site many times think you got it hunted out go back a few weeks later and find stuff with the same detector.
Very love this hobby and constantly watch it and follow on youtube. But too bad, I can not afford a metal detector over finances. If there is someone to donate a metal detector would be grateful to him. THANK YOU
Great video, the fact that you were trying to picture what was going on in the house and on the property makes you a first class relic hunter. Whatever else you may or may not have found, That button alone was worth all your time on that site. Awesome find and piece of history.

those little clip things you found are for keeping window screens in windows.

that masonic button is definitely a cool find
nice button find, its so crazy that he was one of the first to live in the area and he had mason swag.

that's where you look when the land slopes and sinks, it's a farm privy dump...but the whole farm yard/land is an excellent place to look.
Well done Bill, wish our history went that far back
loved it, great find, thanks for cleaning the button and showing us
Many times masons would scratch the square and compass on bricks that were laid in the walls of old houses, usually around doorways where other masons could see them when visiting. These were crudely etched like your button.
You need a small sniper coil on trashy sites. I use one at a old RR depot site and it works perfect. Lots of iron!!! Good Luck!
I love finding colonial buttons but that free mason button beats the crap from anything I found! Nice finds bud
that masonic button was really a great find.
I hope you video all of it Bill. I am stoked to see you hunting that site.
