- Pink Floyd - See Emily Play, a hit in 1967. At this time, Syd Barrett, who wrote the song, was member of the band. Members of Pink Floyd, beside Barrett: Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright. David Gilmour joined later (in 1968). Audio-CD-Sound with old Video.
I was named after this song.
I named my daughter after this song and it's a beautiful name.
Monthy python might argue... but your name doesn't sound like "play"!
Connor Duke lmaoooo
What does Emily play then? 😅
@@J.F.R.1 how about pink or floyd

Well said.
Good one

"Emily tries but misdunderstands" I don't know any better words to describe the confusion of life
The people in the background are not aware that they are just watching the birth of a musical legend. They probably think: Holy shit, what a bunch of lunatics are these guys?
the music video for see emily play was their birth?
Well, part of their first steps :)
They probably thought, “Look at the lunatics on the grass...”
well, those lunatics are on the grass and we should keep the loonies on the path
That Syd is something I can't explain.
So true - brilliant tho!
John Reim I mean yeah as a Pink Floyd fan for almost 6 years. We all should agree that his work is artistic and catchy!! But not in a "god way" like lol. There's a lot of musicians that can compose songs like, what Barrett does. It's just hard to popularize them

"We are not a drug-oriented group", they said
+DANNY WOOD With a cringe smile and red eyes :D
LOL, a lot of memes in Tumblr produced that. If someone thinks that Syd,Rick,Nick,David, and,Roger are all clean, needs to open their damn ears 😂
“You can trust us” they said XD
Except for Syd, that was mostly true. The other members weren't big into drugs, especially in the early days. I don't recall hearing later on that any of them ended up in rehab or anything. From interviews I've seen and heard with them, they did like to drink.
@@stevejackson2986 they were more into psychedelics and less so drugs you go to rehab for
Syd probably saw this video and said "And they think I'M the crazy one??"
😂😂😂
LOL! I thought the same about Syd but when I looked this comment I died of laughter. You made my day, man.
Mark Richardson No he's not. That's David.
Jajaja c mamó
They could have titled this 4 guys tripping on acid.
Pink Floyd shot this video in 1968, after David Gilmour had replaced Syd Barrett, for Belgium television. Never officially released by the band, it began to circulate in 1989.
You're right Bro.
There was a raw genius to the composition, instrumentation, and singing on this song that just reached out from the radio and grabbed me the first time I heard it. Classic Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett.
Plot twist: Syd is the cameraman
But if Syd was camera... then who was video?
+The Pav The ford transit that went by.
Richard wright, keyboardist
I hope so
I think Syd is the one who plays the white guitar on minute 1:15

+Maria-Wan Kenobi I know. But just typing "why you laughing at yo momma" made ME laugh! :-)
52 years ago and still sounds great
magnífico. Syd Barrett era de fato um diamante louco.
This song is deffently one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs! Love this song so much
"the '60s?They must have been great because I can not remember anything!" (cit.)
This has been my "YAY SPRING IS HERE" feel-good song for years... How am I only seeing this now??! The algorithm has failed me?
you could get away with anything for a video back then. "Just go do something! Anything! We've got a fucking camera!"
+Chad Heroman Well... To be fair, no one had ever seen a music video before - they really didn't know what they were supposed to look like.
I agree. But I would rather have an excellent song and a poor video than vice-versa, as is often the case these days.
Well idk Moon, Penny Lane came out in 1967 too. The music video was pretty entertaining.
Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues.
Yeah one can clearly see the influence of the Beatles here. A Hard Days Night and Help! sort of zany if you know what I mean. Understandable really as all music lived in the shadow of the fab four in that time.

Emily, so nice meeting you today and hope to see you again, had to have a listen myself. Do hope you find the work by Pink Floyd most enjoyable, smiles, Roger.
In 67' everything was possible. Now anything is impossible.
Ok .. dont think so - the tools has changed - you dont think 60s was restictive think again.
Come on Robert try to be positive eh
He's talking about the zeitgeist. Back then we believed a man could walk on the moon, now we think maybe we'd better send up a robot, just to be on the safe side. It's just a state of mind, and I'm with Robert on this one.

Always prefered these pink floyd
That is why I like them in first place
I feel like when syd first went downhill they all just ignored it and wanted to have fun but as time progressed they would become more and more empathetic twards him and it would always stain their minds and I feel like they’ve Channeled that. At least roger was especially effected by it all
You're not alone.
I adore their Psych days, and Syd is an idol of mine, but their prog was an inevitability. And they changed music that way
Pink Floyd were great, but with Syd they were interstellar
Yeah he's great but Roger Waters is still my favorite singer from Pink Floyd
David Gilmour 😍
Marcello Mazzocco bullshit
syd was the most talented one by far, that is for sure
Are you kidding? The Beatles were doing this kind of 60s music(which sounds REALLY dated) and doing it way better...Theres plenty of post-Syd timeless PF.
This video just puts me in a good mood for some reason
Syd Barrett junto con su banda pink Floyd maestro genio creador y fundador de la mejor banda pink Floyd 🎸🎸👏🎤👆🇨🇱
Happy 50th anniversary...See Emily Play!
I've often wondered what Lewis Carroll would have thought of this tune.
He'dve probably thought, "it's ok but who's Emily?".
I've thought more often about what Lewis Carol would have thought about Jefferson Airplane.
I met my best friend Tony in Cambridge in '66. Had lunch with Max, his widow today. Great times in Cambridge in the late 60's. "Far out man"!
God I love that! Pure wicked fun insanity! Trippedity trip trip!
:p
I was there still adore Pink Floyd ( I'm nearly 70 now lol )
2016 still listening
how could you not 💪💪

God I wasn't even born,my mum and dad, aunties uncles grew up ,in the 50,s 60,s 70, great music 👏 👌 thank you.
i think its the best song of pink floyd
Pink Floyd was, is and always will be the greatest band ever ❤️ hats off to the five of them, my heroes ❤️
thanks for the upload...it is awfully considerate of you to think of me here...
And I'm most obliged to you for making it clear
That I'm not here
Don't care what anyone says about this footage but it's awesome and intoxicatingly 60's. just wished I'd been walking past I would have joined in. Brilliant song. Love you Syd.
THE Pink Floyd, in those days, actually.
Syd Shines On 💎💎💎💎
The Pink Floyd Sound actually.
aCtUaLLy
Its The Pink Floyd Sound.... Ty Ronan King.
GBPaddling actually what a good band or just stond all the time
Really great recording quality on this video. Sounds incredible on my system. Thanks for the upload.
Syd is not in the video. Look closely, it's David Gilmour. From wikipedia: "In 1968, Pink Floyd travelled to Belgium where they filmed a TV special entitled "Pink Floid" (this misspelling is on the title credits) which featured lip-synched promotional films for "See Emily Play", as well as for "Astronomy Domine", "The Scarecrow", "Apples and Oranges", "Paint Box", "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun", and "Corporal Clegg". This was Gilmour's first TV work with the band. Barrett was still technically a member of the band but it had recently been decided to no longer collect him for gigs or shows. Therefore, Gilmour, Roger Waters and Rick Wright had to mime to Barrett's vocals."
no.. you're wrong .. 2:23 he's barret...
no +Kevin Solano, he's Richard Wright
+Diego DOMINGUEZ ZUNINO yes... your're right ...
OMG!!! It is David!!! I didn't notice that before!
ofcourse that sid is in the video wright is not in the video :v
if you look closely thid
guitarist(David)
bassist(roger)
drummer(manson) and singing it is sid :v
This is art. This song definitely makes me wish I was born in the 60's or 70's at least.
I was born in the 50s and enjoyed the late 60s & early 70s decades, with everything that came with it...;)
This is pure bliss. I actually prefer this pink Floyd to the dark-side-of-the-moon-era stuff.
Totally agree Maria. I think their work up to UmmaGumma including the singles are the best.
So do I!
I prefer dark side but they are WONDERFUL either way!!=)
the wall is their gem
I totally agree. The second Syd was gone, Pink Floyd was meaningless to me
In 2021....
Legends dont die, they just leave us...
Gilmour very young
Mick Hdez gilmour young was so hot ,
in fact there's no Gilmour
Filip Šponiar In fact your so right . It's to early for him to join . ha :)
Yep he joined in '68 :)
Ha yea . I don't know why i didn't get it the first time but you woke me up . :) thanks :)
for me this is the best song during sid's period. its just si perfect.
Group: Syd, you are crazy.
But also group: 00:24
Amazingly, this is still the most expensive music video of all time, dwarfing the sum for Michael & Janet Jackson's 'Scream' with a total production cost of over $15m.
Why is that? The video doesn't really look that expensive to make.
That's the beauty of it.
Coen Ruijs
***** it cost neither 15 million nor 15 dollah ! It would have been paid for with lsd (no not lysergic acid diethylomide, but rather libra, solidus, denarius) cost a particular princely sum of pounds shillings and pence.
Oh btw, do google and google staff hate "googlefuckingplus" too ?
It cost not 15m dollah ! It would have been paid for with lsd (no not lysergic acid diethylomide, but rather libra, solidus, denarius) cost a particular princely sum of pounds shillings and pence.
The first time I heard this I knew these were so far ahead of other bands-they were bound for glory.CH
ummmmm.... people.... look close. that's not syd on the telecaster, it's david gilmour
Heard this when I was 14 it changed my life love the 60,s mod for ever.
I swear, I can’t get this out of my head, it’s just so good this song.
Beetles+Mamas and the Papas+ LSD =
Pink Floyd - See Emily Play
nA.... the beetles suck.... dont compare them to Syd Barrett.......
I sure love The Beetles.
Syd loved The Beatles. You can easily notice their influence in Syd's music
triclone123 un Bottiion de vin
it's written beAtles, with an A, and they don't suck, they are the best, even better than pink floyd.
Why am I just learning this existed?!?!?!?....This is all kinds of awesome lol
It's a pity Syd isn't in this video. Rick Wright and David Gilmour (who doesn't feature on the recording) mime to Barrett's voice.

Creep Gameplays That's Rick.
Happy Birthday today(January 27) to Nick Mason. Cheers!
best song ever for the floyd
Classic 👌, 👌 thank you 😊.
Il mio primo 45 giri dei mitici pink floyd è stato Arnold lane, avevo 16 anni! Non li ho più abbandonati!
Good old classics.
Mesmerizing.
Syd you were a genius the melody is sublime.
Let's be genius together
This song is so 60s it's still trying to fight the Vietnamese.
You don't have to be high to enjoy this gem.
I was 2 when this came out and now I want whatever Nick's had :)
absolutely love this!! this Arnold layne and THE Floyd album the piper at the gates of dawn...amazing. hope syd and Rick are having a good drink up there 🍺🍻
One word: Lsd
Jacob Cameron Fleming Its about a girl syd barret saw playing on a acid trip
***** Lysergsäurediethylamid is one word and Lsd is the short form
***** im german and in germany, lysergsäurediethylamid is one word.
Fuck you
***** do you even know what defines racism.
You are definetly a fuckin racist
Lol yes you are, you're a dumbass if you don't think that. Its 2016 not 1943.
Like sun sink in sea, the beat melted in psychedelic.
Wonderful old days where Monsieur du L'eau still had fun in his life
Poor Syd. He wrote all the songs and the band milked him for all he was worth even though they knew he was ill. He's not even in the video for this or Apples and Oranges.
Anthony DeLordo Isn't he the guy with the hat?
That's Rick the keyboard player. The fourth guy is David Gilmore. He would lip sync Syd's songs and later say it was very embarrassing for him. So rather than putting the whole thing on hold and get Syd the help he needed, Pink Floyd just snuck in Gilmore and hoped no one would notice, meanwhile putting added pressure on a sick individual to write more hits behind the scenes.
Anthony DeLordo What happened to Syd is too sad :( But David did made sure Syd
got every penny that he deserved.
+Anthony DeLordo ...What if Syd was just the cameraman?
+TheGreatSkirazi He wasn't.
Great to see the lads in good spirits!
Ahh back to my youth great x
music videos sure have come a long way
I could listen to this song forever.
this song gives be goosebumps.
so sophisticated. i just LOVE it.
Impeccable production...
what the hell of a video is that? The guy you don't see much of is not Syd Barrett but a very young Dave Gilmour. They must have taken the original video and cut Syd off, redid some parts of the video and put Gilmour in God knows why But that is not Syd Barrett, I tell you
+Gabriele 95 The video was filmed at the same time they where touring (idk where, i forgot) without Syd but with David, thats why Barrett isn't at this clip. However Syd was still part of the band, but not for much time. It's early 1968. Cheers
Gabriele 95 there's no Gilmour
I find this incarnation of the Pink Floyd extremely fun to listen :)
in just glad to see them play cricket.. Also I agree Syd was the zing which they never could re-attain even for all the phenomenal music they gave us...
I love this style of video. It focuses on the quality of the music by getting out of the way and letting the band tell the story instead of the camera man.
This song is awesome
2:20 hahahha david
nicole DLF I was like; Same David same...how relatable.
me in social situations
Ja ja great vídeo !!!!! pink floyd ever ....
Syd looks like Noel fielding in this video
+Daryn Goodwin Syd is not even in this video...
my bad thought he wrote this song
Syd did actually write this song and he even sang it, but the video was shot with David instead of Syd.
+Daryn goodwin what are you talking about syd not even in this video it's David Rick Nick and Roger syds singing but he is not in the video IDK why but I saw your comment and was like really it's David gilmour syd is not in the video sadly
+Daryn Goodwin I know he did idc if you've already got shit for it I saw a comment saying syd looks like whoever you said but idec had to say something. dig it
I love this music, wonderful.
Absolutely amazing!
I'll probably get lynched for saying this but Pink Floyd was way better off Post Syd... I don't think I can ever picture someone saying I love Pink Floyd for songs like See Emily Play
I like it
It's not terrible, but it sounds like they were trying to be the Beatles. It's definitely not Pink Floyd, if you understand.
I do
Since night i’m binge watching.. just wondering the passerby’s wouldn’t be having any idea that this band will become a great one.
LSD
Madness is here
still love it!!
gazing through trees in sorrow, hardly a sound til tomorrow
