Floyd Rules Whiter Shade of Pale is not too Bad though back in the early Syd yrs there are a lot of psychedelic music 🎶🎵👍♈ and a few after Dave took Syds place still had to throw the Poco Song in there

I was 13 years old,on holiday in Blackpool, July 1967,memories of this being played on Radio Caroline North from just across the sea, walking along Blackpool's beaches, everyone's radios tuned to Caroline, bought this then and still have it, lovely times , Thankyou Caroline.
7th July, 2006 Syd Barrett took his leave from this plane, to 'See Emily Play'. Sometimes the rest they seek can only be obtained, when they brush the dust of this Earth from their feet. RIP Syd & thanks for sharing your thoughts, before they were stolen from you 😊
That was the first of three consecutive appearances where they mimed to See Emily Play. You can see Syd gamely going along wit it but not really enjoying it. Apparently he became more reluctant as the weeks went on. Shame we don't have the full tapes
It saddens me that Syd became so disenchanted with how mainstream music was becoming, along with possible obvious undiagnosed Mental Disorder, and then if you read and watch some of the documentaries...and read the stories of people putting LSD into his cereal or other breakfast food without him knowing. That right there to me is criminal. In my High School years I loved LSD, and to me if you knew how to control it per se, it was amazing. But when taken in the wrong setting, I can see how someone could mentally shatter from it. But this is my Favorite Song Floyd Song....well, top 5.
They even threw him in a broom cupboard while having a bad trip before. And it wasn't just LSD, there was STP, too. 10x stronger than acid and would have you tripping for days and days. No doubt those psycho freaks he stayed with dosed him with that too. Even the cats got LSD
@@TheFergyme Well in North America he did according to Peter-Wynne Wilson, their light show guy when they were there in November 1967. This is when the others really said Syd was going off the rails. I think he was aware he was going a bit mad but also had this self-destructive sort of "moth flying into a flame" attitude. It's fun to feel unreal and like the world is completely different until it isn't. I've abused psychedelics in a similar fashion and have ended up in some pretty bad states because of it, luckily I was able to come out of it. STP was nasty shit, I think most "acid casualties" were honestly getting messed up by this instead of LSD. Jim Morrison could handle 10,000 micrograms of LSD and he was no acid casualty. He could function on so much of it and the photos of him in '67 with the hugest pupils I've ever seen just casually sitting around is a testament to that. Morrison probably had a similar attitude, but unlike Syd, wasn't able to come out of the twilight. Jim replaced acid with booze by '68 and The Doors all taking LSD in those times were a smart group who I think knew better than to dabble with STP which was all over Haight Ashbury, causing acute psychosis regularly.
Viewing this tape, you can tell Barrett is still very with-the-program. He's miming perfectly well, he's selling the performance nicely. You cannot tell me that that guy in this video isn't interested in pop-stardom. Rewinding a bit, if one goes and watches the alternat video for Arnold Layne, when put side × side with this, one gets the idea that Barrett was still in control, 100%, definitely in the 'Layne' video he's 100% the guy you hear everyone gushing about for all these decades. Id argue that minus any contradictory evidence, he's still 'Syd' here. Compare these two videos (this one+alt video for Arnold Layne) eith, say, "Apples & Oranges"+"Jugband Blues." The difference is starkly evident, even if only speculation/anecdotal. From the original Arnold Layne video to Apples + Oranges, recorded just a short eight months following....its fairly drastic. Then, by the tape for Jugband Blues, he looks utterly void of whatever spirit inhabited him earlier. One gets a tangible sense of that legendary loss by viewing each tape in sequence, imo.
The white Fender with the reflective discs was actually an Esquire - it only had one pickup - as opposed to a Telecaster, which had two pickups. It was Syd's favorite guitar, but he left it out in the rain during one of his episodes, and it was lost to the mists of history. He did eventually use a Telecaster during his brief solo career after PF.
im sure it wasnt just the drugs with syd, many have said that, there were other things that led to his breakdown if you want to call it that, it started i feel with losing his father when he was about 15 or 16 for me that was the start, its a very complex case ,we will never know what caused him to crash and burn its a sad story ,but i still believe in the last 30 or so years he was in his own way content or accepting about what happened to him, his music with The floyd is amazing still ,and the solo records to, but the music business took a terrible toll on him,so sad ....
Yes, you can hear it on the Golden Circle gig Stockholm from 1967 which is easy to find here, Sadly you cannot hear the vocals. PAs were rubbish in those days and the band just played too loud. Same with all live tapes of the Floyd in those days. Syd was just too quiet. I don't think the rest of the band were keen on the song "not the sort of thing a chap wants to play..." They hated having to play their hits. They protested by performing "Reaction In G."
Isn't this pretty much all that survived of the recording? And shows such as this one did not allow for artists to play or sing live, they had to mime along to playback of what was usually the studio version anyways, unfortunately.
Well that lasted for 1 year after Syd left off in 1968 Probably u also should not bother listening to Pink Floyd albums after that What they created after that Every one knows Probably your music sense is as dumb as your comment about David Gilmour
Genesis were 2 or 3 years behind Floyd and were more baroque/Old English and not as psychedelic. But both bands were beloved by the stoner crowd in the early to mid 70s (same with Yes, Jethro Tull, ELP). Anyway while both bands changed over the years, Floyd never became shameless sellouts like Genesis did in the 80s.
This tape was long thought lost. BBC practice was to overtape recordings, videotape being an expensive luxury and BBC funding being notoriously inadequate. Somehow this one survived, damaged but precious. It's all we have. Treasure it.
Great to remember when we were all happy with Black and White TV, Mono sound, Pirate Radio and VCRs that didn't work, but the music was the best ever.
Nobody in Britain had a VCR in 1967!
Cracking song from a cracking band they don,t make them like this anymore sadly.
Syd was so beautiful. I was a little girl growing up in London, and he totally enchanted me.
Indeed he was..
@karencrookshank4971 me too. There are a few who kind of sum up that era in London, and Syd was definitely one of them - he was a flower child 😍

This song had always fascinated me. Enjoy it as much today as I did 56 years ago. So different!
The damaged tape gives it a feeling of what I call "black and white psychedelia". Gives it a disturbing ambiance I enjoy.

such a beautiful song!
roger and syd so friggin cute here......looooooooove this song.
It’s crazy this is the same band that put out DSOTM. Syd infamously was really starting to lose it this year. 1967. Sadly. Mental illness sucks.
Thank You...Gracias.
Wow How great they are !!!
It was exactly 10 years before my born.

If LSD didn't drive Syd mad, Waters eventually would have.

Precious. And funny how they had that circular thing behind them. A coincidental preview of the circular screen years later.

Remember Syd wasn’t happy playing on “top of the pop”
Yeah, I saw a real sad interview where he wasn't with it.
I think it was something to do with John Lennon saying The Beatles would never play on Top Of The Pops again.........
Sys was, however, perfectly ecstatic to play American Bandstand the same year! ua-cam.com/video/YsjAVV_GZqE/v-deo.html
who would be happy about pretending to play your music rather than actually playing it?
that was by the 3rd show, after his "lost weekend" when he showed up a different person
Aaaaaah, this is the roots of Tender Buttons!!
The only song by Floyd that I actually like!!!
I concur.
What a sad life you must have.
Check out Arnold Layne and Lucifer Sam
absolutely fantastic. Syd hated being on that show and the commercialism of pop.
Like it or not, “commercial” songs are what sell records, so being underground has its disadvantages, like starvation.
