An older person related a story to me about saying the word "oriental." Someone told him that's racist now, so he called up an Asian friend, and asked her if it's bad for him to say the word "oriental."
She didn't know, so she Googled it, and then she said something very funny and politically incorrect that I won't relate here because I don't want to be canceled by the no-fun word police.

I remember perfectly the moment when my 10-year-old daughter told me: Mom, I really like this Marilyn Manson song. I had to make an effort, because it terrified me. We're talking about 2005 or so.I was a bit prejudiced, and every time I saw the video with the pig (as I called it) I changed the channel. But then I loved his music deeply myself. And then, my daughter and I, we went to discover his songs. And we watched every video together. And now that my daughter is 26, we talk about it sometimes and think about how cool Manson was a few years ago. We also saw the concert in Milan together and it was great. So many good memories. Thanks Marilyn Manson
I remember MM saying in an interview that parents should bring their kids to a concert before judging him. I listened to him with my kids also. Along with korn, Beatles, led zeppelin. My kids are cool and it DID create a bond for us.

oh goodness yes, my kids grew up on his music. I gave up censoring them because it's fairly impossible these days. No Cradle Of Filth videos (stands to reason), but they listened to that music too because hubby and I love metal, goth anything hard and heavy. They grew up better for the exposure. I think during a lot of the high school crap that goes on, MM and all the rest kept them strong and they felt truly understood by these icons. Music is magical, it truly is.

This wouldn't have fazed me at all if I were 4 years old so how in the hell does a person who has seen much more than the average person cry? Manson's videos are weird and uncomfortable at best, but nothing I'd consider "scary". Best example I can think of is Sweet Dreams, so I guess thank god you didn't show her that or she may very well have had a heart attack.

MR B I wouldn't say that. His death hit hard for many. Of the many deaths of celeberties and musicians like Scott Weiland and Lemmy Kilmister, it was Bowie's death that hit many hard. He was still releasing music to his death and collaborated with the likes of Trent Reznor. I am sure most people my age know about him.

It's interesting, how the musicians who get called satanists the most, aren't the heaviest. Think about it: groups like MM and Slipknot get called satanic a lot more than bands like Cannibal Corpse or Suicide Silence, who make songs that are way darker and more violent. Why? Because MM and Slipknot, while far from mainstream, are still way closer to it than CC or SS. Just something to think about.
True there are much darker and heavier bands, but the more popular you are, the more criticism you're going to get. Look what happened with the attention some bands got after Columbine. MM and Slipknot were mainstream in the late 90s to early 00s when you would see their videos on MTV a lot. Not any more. All I see now on music channels are reality tv shows and the odd pop video. Reality tv took over. Everything popular is now just generic pop (ask S Cowell), 'EDM', or mixed. Rock truly is dead. Even 'proper' hip hop doesn't get much of a look in compared to what it used to, although still beats rock for popularity
i'm not a huge hip hop fan but look into TYLER THE CREATOR...he was rapping about heavy real life stuff and he was criticized by the hip hop community for not embracing an ignorant outlook on life with materailism. He also made his own beats..and plays piano and guitar. However the hip hop industry was threated and they made him out to be a SATAN worshipper even though he never raps about the devil.
Most of his songs are about his dad,losing faith in religion, dead friends, materalism in rap,high school crushes, how steryotypes are negative things.

Marilyn Manson is a very misunderstood man. I love how only his fans really get who he is and everybody else is just completely appalled by him because they only see the show they don’t see him as a human being. They judge him by the shock factor and it’s that shock factor that made him rich. He don’t want the haters as fans. He’s clearly in it because it’s what he loves doing and that integrity is a rare thing in the industry but you gotta give the man his due respect for staying true to music and not giving a shit about the fame. The biggest shocker comes whenever you see him on a regular talk show interview and he shuts everybody’s mouth when they see how intelligent he really is. I think MM is fucking kick ass music been listening to them since ‘95 and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

I went to Columbus Art And Design (CCAD) in Ohio & I attended several goth old school velvet covered walled room black lighted parties to some great clubs now from Cincinnati, to Dayton Ohio to the G. Dead concerts in the early 1991 & it was lots of fun but we were all artsy freaks as half of us were out there, very creative, crazy to musical & the other half sort of fine.
We were all messed up though even to some of the professors that went to another art collage I attended then left, I mean how much can you learn from art? from 1973........wonderful times from 1988->

Man, so many people discussed that rumour a LOT back in the 1990s. I don't believe in that theory, but I can confirm that it's 3% true.
