I absolutely loved the wasp factory, it makes me wonder who we would be without society to extrude the uniqueness of our character.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I definitely appreciate it for what it is, though it's by no means my favorite from Banks. Society certainly has its pros and cons.

I'm a fan of Banks and have read The Wasp Factory but I remember hardly anything about it and Walking on Glass I remember DNFing. However, now that I'm about ten years more mature as a reader I'd be curious to reread and try again. Having just read Consider Phlebas maybe I should just go on a Banks spree this year? That's a thought.

It sounds like revisiting the works of Iain Banks, especially with a decade more of reading experience under your belt, could be a rewarding endeavor for you. It's not uncommon for readers to connect with complex novels in more profound ways as they accumulate life experiences.
A “Banks spree”-I love that-could not only be a fascinating and rewarding literary journey but also an opportunity to reflect on how your perceptions and interpretations have changed over time. I am currently on a Banks spree of my own, so (obviously with some bias) I would encourage you to do the same!

@@BobCanRead I can relate with that. I thought in my senior year of high school I had a mature enough understanding of some of my favorite stories, and then 5+ years later I reread them and have a completely different view. I'll have to see how I feel in another 5 years!
      Great book reviews, btw!

One of the murder weapons is a kite. A kite. This book is ridiculous.
